Traitement phonétique en lecture : lecture normale et dyslexie développementale / Phonetic processing in reading : normal reading and developmental dyslexia

Papoz, Sonia 18 June 2010 (has links)
Some studies in literature show the involvement of phonological knowledge in printed words processing. The goal of this work is to contribute to describe the nature of the code involved in printed word recognition, and to understand the mechanisms of phonological knowledge involvement in reading. We firstly want to show that the early steps of printed words recognition involve a phonological code described in terms of phonological features, by showing that skilled readers are sensitive to infra-phonemic elements and that a hierarchical organisation of these features could exist. Otherwise, this work aims to provide clues in favour of the existence of phonological impairments in dyslexic children, to define some deficits of their infra-phonemic organisation, and to show that these deficits could be different according to the type of developmental dyslexia. On the one hand, we present the theory and the experimental studies in cognitive psychology and in psycholinguistics that lead us to some questions. On the other hand, the presentation of studies in linguistics and in neuropsychology provide clues in favour of our hypothesis. In the theorical part, we present a reading model that involve two reading mechanisms based on phonological features, and our hypothesis allow us to test this model. Our experimental word is developped in several steps to provide behavior data that lead us to discuss our hypothesis about adult skilled readers, normal reading children, and dyslexic chilmdren.

A Cross-Linguistic Examination of Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials for a Categorical Voicing Contrast

Elangovan, Saravanan, Stuart, Andrew 25 February 2011 (has links)
Behavioral perceptions and cortical auditory evoked potentials (CAEPs) from native English (N=10) and Spanish speakers (N=10) were recorded for speech stimuli that constitute phonetically relevant categories of voicing. The stimuli were synthesized bilabial stop consonant-vowel syllables in a continuum ranging from/ba/to/pa/that varied in voice onset time (VOT) from 0 to 60ms. Different behavioral perceptions were evidenced by significantly different categorical phonetic boundaries between the two groups (p.05). Peak P1, N1, and P2 response latencies and P1–N1 and N1–P2 amplitudes increased significantly with increasing VOTs (p

L'opposition de voisement des occlusives orales du français par des locuteurs taïwanais / Voicing opposition of the French oral stops by Taiwanese speakers

Landron, Simon 24 January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the acquisition of French voiceless stops /p t k/ and voiced stops /b d g/ by 11 Taiwanese intermediate or advanced learners of L2 French. The linguistic situation in Taiwan is described as diglossia. Most speakers speak two languages, mainly Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese. Mandarin Chinese has plosives /p t k ph th kh/ while Taiwanese has /b g p t k ph th kh/. An acoustic analysis of CVCVCVC logatoms where C = /b d g p t k/ and V = /a i u/ shows important heterogeneity among speakers. The cues used by French native speakers to oppose voiceless and voiced stops are irregularly used by non-native speakers. The influence of Mandarin Chinese is noted. A perception test shows poorer discrimination among pairs of consonants (/b p/, /d t/ and /g k/) in CV syllable when V = /a/, as compared to /i u/. The results show that non-native listeners tend to, firstly, better discriminate the voiceless plosives of French when the VOT is longer and secondly, ignore the negative VOT of voiced stops. As regards perception, the cues used in Mandarin Chinese to discriminate between aspirated and non-aspirated stops consonants seem to be used in French too. No clue to the influence of Taiwanese has been found, although the opposition of voicing exists.

O despertar para uma nova vocalidade / AWAKEN FOR A NEW VOCALITY

Oliveira, Maria Cecilia de 21 August 2013 (has links)
This paper aims at pointing out specific aspects that guided some of the main theories made in the field of new vocality in writing music that happened in the beginning of the 20th century. At that period the practice of speech inserted in the modern world was also developed by the sudden changes that altered the parameters of music production and the understanding of the elements of musicality. Shortly, this paper also discusses the spectrum of aesthetic and cognitive perceptions that a listener carries in his/her intellect and the historic setting which are grounds for contemplation and reflection for they allow the listener to understand the voice, and even extend the appreciation and understanding of the sound. Such practice gradually added to itself new features taken from vocal speech and everyday singing bringing new orality and voicing. This activity generated a \"new\" sound that would appear in multiple trends, mainly in the late 50s and early 60s of the 20th century. It is there up to the present days and it had as a starting point reflections and researches that the Second Viennese School brought to the music. To support this study a number of vocal works of Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern, Alban Berg and Edward Steuermann, were taken into consideration, which use Joseph Straus\' Theory of Groups as tool for analysis

Variação fonológica, redes e práticas sociais numa comunidade bilíngue português-alemão do Brasil meridional

Lara, Claudia Camila January 2013 (has links)
The linguistic phenomenon in question is the variation of the bilabial plosive consonants: the devoicing of the voiced plosives (trabalho~trapalho) and the voicing of the voiceless plosives (pudim~budim) in Portuguese, in the speech of Portuguese-German bilinguals. The speech community under investigation is Glória, located in the countryside of Estrela, a city founded by German immigrants in the XIX century in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Twenty four sociolinguistic interviews provided data for the investigation. The data were quantitatively analyzed with the computational programs of the VARBRUL package, in their GoldVarb X version, in order to verify the linguistic and extralinguistic factors which constrain the realization of the plosives. The total frequency of rule application is low. The control of variable Age suggests that the process tends to disappear in the years coming. The process is conditioned by old informants, women, bilinguals which perform social practices almost exclusively in Glória. The analysis of the personal social network of the informants showed that it is dense and multiplex. Despite of its density and multiplexity, old informants do not diffuse the variable rule to their contacts in the net, the young informants who work and study in urban areas where the application of the variable rule of plosives is rare.
