Who’s to blame? A website content analysis of victimization prevention messaging at PWIs and HBCUsBrock, Madeline 10 May 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Over the past several decades, the victimization of women on college campuses has not decreased despite an uptick in research and concern surrounding the topic. In this study, I analyzed the victimization prevention messages on the websites of 30 4-year PWIs and 30 4-year HBCUs in the Southeastern United States to investigate how they contextualized such messages. Drawing on a comparative thematic analysis of 132 documents from HBCUs and 138 documents from PWIs, I elaborate on four key themes, with several subthemes: gendered safety messages, rape culture education, racialized safety messages, and collective responsibility. I found that victimization prevention messaging was contextualized by community engagement at HBCUs, and both types of schools engage in victim-centered crime prevention. Additionally, PWIs used language on their webpages that encourages peer-to-peer racialized coveillance. This study contributes to the literature on victimization prevention on college campus, the college-prison nexus, and understandings of sexual assault prevention.

Utilisation of digital media in improving children's reading habitsJurf, Dima R.M. January 2012 (has links)
Although digital media has been exploited to improve digital libraries,
social networking sites, and book promotion for adult and child
stakeholders, but encouraging children who have the choice to either
read from a book or on a screen remains limited worldwide, including
Jordan. This interest has meant that data about children¿s reading habits
were needed, and the present study was intended as a contribution
towards this aim.
Interviews were conducted with Jordanian writers, publishers, child
specialists, and various children¿s cultural centres. The managers and
personnel unanimously showed that Jordanian children are not good
readers and that a limited number of books are published for children as
there are actual boundaries preventing Jordanian writers from publishing
books.
In particular, subjecting the typical sorts of children¿s websites ¿ 'Club
Penguin', 'PBS Kids', 'A Story before Bed', 'Baraem', 'Storyline Online',
and 'Raneen' ¿ to evaluation showed that 'Club Penguin' got the highest
rank among the other websites in terms of multimodal features, usability,
and language, while 'PBS Kids' got the highest rank regarding
interactivity, and 'A Story before Bed' got the highest rank in reading
activities. Although it was realised that most children were satisfied with
the aspects of usability and ease of use rather than the structure or the
aesthetic of the website, and were more attracted to the websites that
provide multimodal features such as special characters, narration,
gesture, and interactivity.
The targeted websites¿ parameters obtained from the survey were used
as guidance in the design structure of the KITABAK website, as a virtual
reading environment for children¿s reading practices. The evaluation
results that were obtained showed that there is a significant correlation
towards encouraging children¿s reading habits and reading from printed
books accompanying the website; girls showed more interest in reading

than boys; and there is an obvious willingness for the adaptation of the
website as a part of the Jordanian school curriculum. In addition, the
KITABAK website was accepted significantly more than 'Club Penguin',
mainly because the KITABAK website has facilities, games and reading
activities. Also, results showed that children who were subjected to
testing the KITABAK website for a one-week period proved to accept the
website significantly more than those who were subjected to testing it

機場在航空運輸產業供應鏈扮演著舉足輕重的角色,國際機場作為國家之門戶,其傳遞予外部顧客之軟硬體設施服務水準,正是國家競爭力之展現;時至今日,網際網路已成為民眾傳遞、分享及獲取多元資訊主要媒介,國際機場網站更是國際機場管理當局經營顧客關係的伸展台,因此,國際機場網站所傳遞的不僅是機場的形象,更是國家的面貌,如何讓外籍顧客在與國際機場網站初次邂逅的同時,即滿足其資訊需求,進而產生造訪該國的動機,即成為國際機場網站管理者進行服務設計時之重要課題。
本研究針對臺灣桃園國際機場等六座機場之英文版網站進行內容分析及網站優使性測試,發現多數評估對象之網站內容或功能並無顯著之差異,然而,經研究者彙整優使性測試評分、受測人員之優使性測試意見及關鍵參與者之訪談內容,本文建議臺灣桃園國際機場英文版網站應優先改善航班資訊之編排方式及檢索方式,及提升購物、飲食店家資訊之完整性;其次,色彩、字型、字體大小等視覺傳達介面優使性評估指標亦應納入改善項目,並落實各語言版本之一致性及內控機制之建立,以優化使用者對臺灣桃園國際機場英文版網站之使用體驗,進而提升使用者對臺灣桃園國際機場之信賴。此外,本研究期待公部門於推動電子化政府發展過程中,在追求行政效能及便民服務品質的同時,亦能提升對網站優使性的意識,進而協助政府評估網站使用效能,創造良好的網站使用體驗。 / Airports play a decisive role in the supply chain of aviation industry. As a gateway of one country, an international airport manifests a nation’s competitiveness through the service standard of its software and hardware facilities delivering to its external customers. Today, Internet has become a main media for people to pass on, to share and to acquire various pieces of information, which makes the official website of an international airport an important extending platform for the authority to conduct customer relationship management. Therefore, what an international airport website represents is not just the image of a certain airport, but also the facade of one country. Under this circumstance, how to meet the needs of external customers during their first reach of an airport website so as to increase their visit motivations has become a primary issue while webmasters designing webpages.
In this study, the researcher chose English version websites of six international airports, including Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, to conduct content analysis and website usability. The result shows that there are no significant differences among tested websites; however, after collecting usability test scores, participants’ opinions, and reviewing key actors interview, this thesis concludes and would suggest Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to firstly improve the layout arrangement of flight information, retrieval method, and elevate the completeness of shop and dining information. Secondly, visual communicate interface, such as color, fonts, font size and so on, and content consistency among different language versions should be enhanced and an internal control mechanism, which aims at maintaining that consistency, should be built to utilize the user experience so as to advance the credibility of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. On top of that, this study expects to raise the awareness of website usability among all government sectors, who are developing and promoting e-government policy, to also include website usability into the core concept of webpage design while pursuing administrative efficiency and quality of citizen services and, furthermore, to assist Government to conduct website evaluation in order to create a smooth and customized user experience.

Cette étude a été conçue pour réaliser une évaluation des sites Web des bibliothèques universitaires pakistanaises à partir des utilisateurs. L'évaluation a été faite sur la base de leur utilisation, leur utilité, leur facilité d'utilisation et leur impact. La documentation consultée a contribué à l'élaboration d'un questionnaire pour la collecte des données. L'échelle de Likert comprenant sept niveaux a été utilisée pour établir les questions centrées sur le sujet. Nous avons sélectionné un échantillon déterminé de 60 utilisateurs de chaque université participant à l'étude, sur la base de leurs statuts (15 chacun). Les données recueillies auprès de 17 universités avec 957 questionnaires valides ont été analysées. Le test alpha de Chronbach a garanti la fiabilité de l'instrument à tous les niveaux. Sur la base de la plupart des utilisateurs, l'étude a révélé que les sites Web des bibliothèques universitaires au Pakistan avaient un impact quelque peu positif sur les utilisateurs. La recherche a identifié certaines faiblesses dans les sites Web des bibliothèques des universités publiques concernant la mise à jour, la facilité de téléchargement pour les chercheurs et les étudiants et le design. La valeur ajoutée des services avait besoin d'être abordée dans les sites Web des bibliothèques universitaires. L'étude présente des recommandations en termes d'implication pour la pratique et pour la politique qui permettront, non seulement de remédier aux faiblesses mises en évidence, mais aussi de conduire à une amélioration supplémentaire des sites Web des bibliothèques universitaires du Pakistan. Cette recherche basée sur l'utilisateur, avec quelques limitations, offre une large compréhension du sujet. De plus, elle a une importance théorique et pratique pour projeter de développer à l'avenir des sites Web de bibliothèques centrés sur l'utilisateur / The study was designed to make an appraisal of Pakistani university library websites on users. The evaluation was made on the basis of their use, usefulness, ease-of-use and impact. The reviewed literature helped in developing a questionnaire for data collection. Seven-point Likert scale was used to assess the subject-centered questions. The purposeful sample of 60 users, on the basis of their status (15 each), from each university included in the study was taken. The data collected from 17 universities with 957 valid questionnaires was used for analysis. The Chronbach's alpha test ensured reliability of the instrument at all levels. The study revealed that university library websites of Pakistan have somewhat positive impact on users on the basis of most of the indicators. The research has identified some weaknesses in the library websites of public universities regarding up-to-dateness, downloading facility for researchers and students, and design. Value added services needed to be adressed in the university library websites. The study presents recommandations in terms of implications for practice and implications for policy that will not only address the weaknesses highlighted but also lead to further improvement of university library websites of Pakistan. This user-based research, with some limitations, provides broad understanding of the subject. In addition, it has theoretical and practical significance for planning to develop user-centered library websites in future.

The goal with this research has been to answer questions related to social engineeringbased phishing attacks: email phishing and website phishing. This study answers questions like why these attacks occur, which type of internet users easily get tricked by phishers, Moreover this study consist of different defense mechanisms that exist against the attacks, weaknesses in them, examples to improve them and other technical solutions against them. Often the attacks consist of a combination of both email phishing and website phishing. A link can be sent to a user via email that leads to a phishing site where the user get tricked into submitting personal information.These attacks aims to steal personal information and money from users. There are anti-phishing tools in web browsers and mailsystems to protect the user. There are special phishingfilters and features that can protect users from phishing mails and detect them. Users who get attacked by phishers are those who lack knowledge about them. But since high educated people and security experts also fall for phishing beacuse phishers develop new techniques and strategies to attack users, more advanced techniques in web browsers and mail systems are needed. This study was done through a systematic litterture review where 10 articles where chosen. These articles where studied and summarised through a content analysis. / Målet med denna undersökning har varit att besvara frågor relaterat till social engineeringbaserade phishngattacker: email phishing och website phishing. Den här studien tar upp varför dessa attacker utförs, vilka användare som mest blir drabbade av de. Vidare handlar studien om olika skyddsmekanismer som existerar mot attackerna, vilka bristerna det finns i de, eventuella förbättringsförslag och förslag på andra tekniska lösningar. Oftast sker attackerna genom en kombination av email phishing och website phishing. En skadlig länk kan skickas till en användare via mail som leder till en phishingsida där användaren blir lurad till att fylla i privata uppgifter om sig själv. Dessa attacker sker främst för att stjäla personuppgifter och leder oftast till att en användare blir drabbad finansiellt. Det finns olika anti-phishing verktyg i webbläsare och mailsystem för att skydda användare. Mot email phishing finns speciella phishingfilter och olika kännetecken som hjälper till att skydda mot skadliga mail och upptäcka de. De flesta som blir drabbade av phishing är just användare som ej är medvetna om vad phishing är. Men eftersom det visat sig att även högutbildade människor och säkerhetsexperter faller för phishing då phisher utvecklar nya tekniker och strategier att utföra attacker, krävs det mer avancerade tekniska lösningar i webbläsare och mailsystem. Studien har genomförts med hjälp av en systematisk litteraturstudie, där 10 artiklar valdes ut. Dessa artiklar bearbetades och sammanfattades genom en innehållsanalys.

Η παρούσα Διπλωματική Εργασία μελετά το θέμα της προσωποποίησης - εξατομίκευσης δικτυακών τόπων.
Αρχικά, παρουσιάζεται μια ανασκόπηση στη σχετική βιβλιογραφία όπου εντοπίζεται πληθώρα αναφορών και λύσεων -ακαδημαϊκών και εμπορικών- για το συγκεκριμένο θέμα. Στις περισσότερες από αυτές τις περιπτώσεις καταβάλλεται προσπάθεια για εξατομίκευση η οποία στηρίζεται σε δεδομένα που συλλέγονται από δηλώσεις ή ενέργειες του χρήστη, άμεσα ή έμμεσα. Όμως, η μελέτη των σχετικών άρθρων δείχνει ότι η μέχρι σήμερα επιτυχία των εγχειρημάτων αξιοποίησης δεδομένων χρήσης του ιστού (web usage data) είναι περιορισμένη. Το βασικό έλλειμμα που διαπιστώνεται είναι το γεγονός ότι η διαχείριση του περιεχομένου ενός δικτυακού τόπου συνήθως γίνεται με μηχανιστικό τρόπο, αποφεύγοντας τόσο την κατανόηση του περιεχομένου του όσο και της δομής του.
Ακολούθως, στη Διπλωματική Εργασία γίνεται απόπειρα εξατομίκευσης δικτυακών τόπων με ημιαυτόματο τρόπο χρησιμοποιώντας τα αρχεία καταγραφής χρήσης ιστού ενώ ταυτόχρονα βασίζεται σε σημασιολογικές και εννοιολογικές αναλύσεις του περιεχομένου των δικτυακών τόπων. Με αυτήν τη μέθοδο υλοποιείται ένα εργαλείο που εξατομικεύει τον δικτυακό τόπο προτείνοντας στους χρήστες ιστοσελίδες με παραπλήσιο εννοιολογικό περιεχόμενο. Αυτό γίνεται δημιουργώντας την οντολογία του εκάστοτε δικτυακού τόπου και συνδυάζοντάς τη με τα δεδομένα πλοήγησης των χρηστών. / The present Diploma Dissertation attempts to study the personalization of websites.
Initially, a thorough review of the relevant bibliography is presented, in which a plethora of academic and commercial reports and solutions is located regarding the subject of website personalization. In most cases, to achieve personalization, the researchers are based on data which are directly or indirectly collected by user statements or actions. However, the study of relative articles shows that there is limited success in the use of web usage data for personalization purposes. The fundamental problem lies in the fact that the comprehension of the content and the structure of a website is often neglected or even avoided.
Further on, personalization of websites in a semi-automatic way is attempted using log files while it is simultaneously based in semantic and conceptual analysis of the website content. In this way, a tool is developed that personalizes websites by proposing web pages with similar conceptual content to the users. This is done by creating the ontology of the website and combining it with the users’ web usage data.

They are: Brazilian Democratic Movement Party ( PMDB ), the Workers Party ( PT) , Communist Party of Brazil ( PC do B ) ; Christian Social Democratic Party ( CSDP ) ; Unión Civica Radical ( UCR ), the Justicialist Party ( PJ ), Socialist Party Argentino ( PS ) and the Communist Party of Argentina ( PCA ) . It is intended to verify that the strand ideological and organizational structure Subtitle influence the manner of use of the websites, thus establishing different forms of use of this feature. It is considered that in addition to the internal features of each party, the general aspects of modern parties, while bureaucratic organizations are important to understand their behavior in the virtual world . The analysis proceeds with an initial characterization of layouts , followed by the description and analysis of the resources available on websites , grouped into four categories : ( i ) information about the party , whose purpose was to verify claims by Subtitle to disseminate information to users about their identity and organization , (ii ) recruitment; whose aim was to analyze the resources used to recruit voters individually or by groups, as well as advertising materials and training schools policy , ( iii ) transparency and accountability ; observed the presence of resources and documents that demonstrate transparency in administration and ( iv ) interaction and participation was analyzed the means employed to generate political interest and interaction with the web user . Also raised were the main features of the news released by the parties. All these analyzes point to the general conclusion that the websites are used by all parties as a communication tool unilateral policy. Identified some differences in layout and content focus by some parties with similar characteristics , however, it was found that the slope ideological and organizational structure of the subtitles do not determine one expressively different usage , for arguing that certain type of party tends to use the site differently from another party . Although the hypothesis was not confirmed, the idea that guided the work was not entirely refuted because it was possible to observe these spaces general characteristics of modern parties, the liberal perspective systemized. / O objetivo deste trabalho é realizar uma análise comparada de cunho qualitativo dos elementos constitutivos dos websites de partidos políticos do Brasil e da Argentina. Sendo eles: Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (PMDB); Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT); Partido Comunista do Brasil (PCdoB); Partido Social Democrata Cristão (PSDC); Unión Cívica Radical (UCR); Partido Justicialista (PJ); Partido Socialista Argentino (PS) e Partido Comunista Argentino (PCA). Pretende-se verificar se a vertente ideológica e estrutura organizativa das legendas influenciam na forma de utilização dos websites, estabelecendo assim formas distintas de emprego desse recurso. Considera-se que além das características internas de cada partido, os aspectos gerais dos partidos modernos, enquanto organizações burocráticas são importantes para compreender seu comportamento no mundo virtual. A análise procede inicialmente com a caracterização dos layouts, seguido da descrição e análise dos recursos existentes nos websites, agrupados em quatro categorias: (i) informações sobre o partido; cujo propósito foi verificar as ações por parte das legendas para divulgar informações aos usuários sobre sua identidade e organização; (ii) recrutamento; cujo intuito foi analisar os recursos empregados para recrutar eleitores de forma individual ou por meio de grupos, assim como a publicidade dos materiais e escolas de formação política; (iii) transparência e prestação de contas; observou-se a presença dos recursos e documentos que demonstram transparência na administração e (iv) interação e participação; foi analisado os meios empregados para gerar interesse político e interação com o usuário da web. Também foram levantadas as principais características das notícias lançadas pelos partidos. Todas essas análises apontam para a conclusão geral de que os websites são utilizados por todos os partidos como instrumento de comunicação política unilateral. Foram identificadas algumas diferenças na disposição e enfoque de conteúdos por alguns partidos com características semelhantes, porém, verificou-se que a vertente ideológica e a estrutura organizativa das legendas não determinam um uso diferenciado de forma expressiva que permita afirmar que determinado tipo de partido tende utilizar o site de forma diferente de outro partido. Apesar da hipótese de trabalho não ter sido confirmada, a ideia que norteou o trabalho não foi totalmente refutada, pois foi possível observar nesses espaços características gerais dos partidos modernos, sistematizadas pela perspectiva liberal.

This master thesis suggests a new design methodology used for creating web pages, with an emphasis on User Experience (UX). The thesis does not focus on specific web technol-ogies, but it rather concentrates on the process of preparation and design of websites. When applying such a process, the websites will not only meet clients business objectives, but it will also satisfy users requirements. The theoretical part of this thesis summarizes the information about User Experience De-sign, defining its processes, terms, tools, tasks and roles associated with it. The outline may serve the developer and the client as a guide when realizing a project or creating a demand for one. The main aim of the practical part is to introduce a new methodology for creating websites focusing mainly on the UX. The methodology is proposed by the author himself, based on his many years of experience in the field, and tested on a real project which is also present-ed in the practical part.

This thesis describes the possibilities of using the internet for marketing and fundraising activities of non-profit organizations in the Czech Republic. It has an emphasis on the quality of non-profit organizations' web sites. The first chapter of the thesis presents a non- profit sector and its specifics. Furthermore, it describes the possible ways NGOs can communicate on the internet and their potential online marketing. The third chapter is dedicated to fundraising forms and mapping the current trends in online fundraising. The fourth and fifth chapter explain the specifics of web site usage and social networks. Moreover, the principles of quality web sites are presented. The last chapter focuses on the analysis of the web sites of selected non-profit organizations in the area of social rehabilitation. The analysis is mainly devoted to accessibility and usability of web sites. It also examines the potential use of web sites to communicate with users and supporters.
