Wam based space efficient Prolog implementation in Lisp

Honorato, Mauro Jacob 24 September 2015 (has links)
This thesis proposes the implementation of a space efficient Prolog implementation based on the work of David H. D. Warren and Hassan Aït-Kaci. The Common Lisp is the framework used to the construction of the Prolog system, it was chosen both to provide a space efficient environment and a rich programming language in the sense that it supply the user with abstractions and new ways of thinking. The resulting system is a new syntax to the initial language that runs on top of the SBCL Common Lisp implementation and can abstract away or exploit the underlying system. / Tese (Doutorado)

This challenging environment in which they are the beverage industry requires increasing attention of managers and investors in decision-making. Thus, it is through the economic and financial evaluation of investments that can project the success or failure economic, based on the variables that make up the financial statements. However, some investors can get good results even in the face of a negative scenario, is the case of Warren Buffett. Before the above, this study aims to economic and financial analyzing Ambev companies, Coca-Cola and Pepsi based on Warren's investment methodology Buffett proposed the work of Andrade and Koshio (2014) to see if such companies have a competitive advantage long term on the scenario outlined. Therefore, it has the following objectives: i. Identify and compare the criteria of Warren Buffett for each account group, according to the methodology used by Andrade and Koshio (2014); ii. Sort criteria Warren Buffett as the Zurra methodology (2008); iii. Assess whether there is a relationship between the valuation of the price of the Shares to the rating methodology of Warren Buffett criteria via weighting Zurra weight system (2008). The research was classified as the goals as exploratory, descriptive explanatory, using procedures as bibliographic and documentary survey with qualitative and quantitative approach. The results showed that the methodology of Andrade and Koshio (2014) was not sufficient to determine the level of satisfaction of the criteria of Warren Buffett, only determined the level of service to investor criteria. However, when using the Zurra methodology (2008) was able to sort the satisfaction of the criteria of Warren Buffett whose results showed satisfactory level for Coca-Cola, or durable competitive advantage. However, by correlating the historical price of the shares with the classification methodology of Warren Buffett criteria via weighting Zurra weight system (2008) found that Ambev pointed valuation superior to the other companies disproving the results in the classification the satisfaction of Warren Buffett's criteria.

A Rejuvenating Resort Remembered: The Use of Folklore and Archaeology in the Investigation of the Historic Massey Springs Resort in South-Central Kentucky

Pinkston, Renee 01 August 2014 (has links)
Using only one line of evidence for a study of historic sites can be problematic if it does not provide a complete picture of the material culture or lifeways of a people, group, or community. In order to understand the ideas and objects, of culture present at historic sites, it is necessary to use archaeological methodologies with vernacular architecture studies and folklore to create a more holistic image of the world and its inhabitants. To facilitate this, I conducted original research on a mineral spring resort, Massey Springs Resort (Massey Springs) in Warren County, Kentucky, a popular resort in the early 1900s. This project examines the site in terms of its archaeological resources, primary and secondary archival data, and vernacular architectural resources. Since there are no standing structures, Massey Springs is worthwhile example of the explicit need of using a multidisciplinary and integrated approach to investigate past lifeways.

Ungerer, Andre Gerhardus 24 July 2008 (has links)
More than 20 million copies of Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Life (2002), were sold over the past 2 years. It is the best-selling hardback in U.S. history. Warren’s previous book, “The Purpose Driven Church” (1995), has sold over one million copies in 20 languages, and was selected as one of the 100 Christian books that. changed the 20th century. More than 415 churches/congregations in South-Africa have already purchased “The Purpose Driven campaign kit” and completed the 40 Days Campaign or are planning to do so. The name Rick Warren is synonymous with “Purpose Driven” and the popularity of his work as well as his influence in this country, justifies a study of this nature. This study wants to determine the effect of Rick Warren’s 40 days of purpose in the Circuit of Klerksdorp of the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van Afrika. Warren (2002/3) provides five purposes for a believer in the church in his book, A Purpose Driven Life, which is according to him, the church’s purpose of existence. The book is divided into 40 brief chapters and participating congregations are motivated to use the book as part of their 40 days campaign. A Campaign Training Manual can be used complementary to the book helping congregations to prepare their campaign successfully. Chapter 1 of this study takes a look at the external and internal problems in the church. The question arises if the church is at all times sure of her purpose of excistence. There is a difference between efficiency (doing things correctly) and effectiveness, which is doing the right things correctly. The purpose of the church’s existence therefore involves choosing the right alternatives. The hypothesis of this study is that the 40 Days of Purpose is an excellent project for congregations to discover their purpose of existence while it also strengthens the process of building up the local congregation. With this hypothesis in mind, chapter 2 provides the underlying theological principles, concepts and some definitions of the subject of building up the local church. Chapter 3 contains a description of the preparation, the course and the ending of the 40 Days Campaign. The participating congregations in the circuit of Klerksdorp are evaluated according to the guidelines of the Campaign Training Manual. A theological view of each of Warren’s (2002) five purposes is also presented. Chapter 4 provides the quantitative and qualitative research which was done in the Curcuit of Klerksdorp. Eight congregations participated in the research project and the respondents reactions are discussed. Interviews that took place whith the pastors of participating congregations, are also discussed. Chapter 5 contains a critical evaluation of the 40 Days of Purpose as well as the book of Warren (2002/3). The conclusion reviews the hypothesis and whether it can be confirmed. / Dissertation (MA (Theology) : Practical Theology)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Le metacomic : la réflexivité dans le comic book de super-héros contemporain / The metacomic : reflexivity in contemporary superhero comic books

Baurin, Camille 25 June 2012 (has links)
The epochal moment in the history of the comic book was the 1938 publication of « Superman », which marked the starting point of the hegemony of the figure of the superhero in comic production. Over the course of the twentieth century, authors and publishers have used various strategies for winning over readers and securing their loyalty. Among these, the technique of rewriting is the most significant. Thus, the superhero has been the subject of many reinterpretations, and consequently, has born witness to many facets of the United States’ history. The publications of the 1980s have seen the rise of a reflexive approach in which the superhero becomes an object of critique himself. This new genre is here referred to as Metacomic. Drawing on a representative body of works, the doctoral thesis at hand examines the strategies that constitute this reflexivity, as well as the multiple discourses that it gives rise to. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter gives an account of the comic book industry and explains its particularities, as well as the hegemonic position of the superhero genre in the industry. The second chapter attempts a definition of reflexivity in comic books, which permits to establish a body of works to be examined. The third chapter attempts an analysis of the ideological aspects of this metafiction in order to show how the crisis of the superhero reflects on a certain discourse on American history and politics. The fourth and last chapter examines how the analysed comics establish the superhero as an agent of imag

Trudel, Rosalie 24 April 2018 (has links)

Dark Houses: Navigating Space and Negotiating Silence in the Novels of Faulkner, Warren and Morrison

Berger, Aimee E. 12 1900 (has links)
Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher," as early as 1839, reveals an uneasiness about the space of the house. Most literary scholars accept that this anxiety exists and causes some tension, since it seems antithetical to another dominant motif, that of the power of place and the home as sanctuary. My critical persona, like Poe's narrator in "The House of Usher," looks into a dark, silent tarn and shudders to see in it not only the reflection of the House of Usher, but perhaps the whole of what is "Southern" in Southern Literature. Many characters who inhabit the worlds of Southern stories also inhabit houses that, like the House of Usher, are built on the faulty foundation of an ideological system that divides the world into inside(r)/outside(r) and along numerous other binary lines. The task of constructing the self in spaces that house such ideologies poses a challenge to the characters in the works under consideration in this study, and their success in doing so is dependant on their ability to speak authentically in the language of silence and to dwell instead of to just inhabit interior spaces. In my reading of Faulkner and Warren, this ideology of division is clearly to be at fault in the collapse of houses, just as it is seen to be in the House of Usher. This emphasis is especially conspicuous in several works, beginning with Faulkner's Absalom, Absalom! and its (pre)text, "Evangeline." Warren carries the motif forward in his late novels, Flood and Meet Me in the Green Glen. I examine these works relative to spatial analysis and an aesthetic of absence, including an interpretation of silence as a mode of authentic saying. I then discuss these motifs as they are operating in Toni Morrison's Beloved, and finally take Song of Solomon as both an end and a beginning to these texts' concerns with collapsing structures of narrative and house.
