While taking the language like social practice, we question in which measure the linguistic choices express the political, historical and intellectual positions of those days. The movement for the abolition of the slavery mobilized some of our intellectuals and the press that, allying with them, materialized occurred facts into documents, making them more understandable to the society. The recognition of the importance of the historical-linguistic context and of the analysis of the document does so that the man can reconstitute his own past and the past of the language, doing so they understand better this past by the light of the modern theories. The choice of the Linguistic Historiography as a theoretical and methodological support, is justified in virtue of the interdisciplinary apparatus that it established, in essence between Linguistics and the History, in the process of interpreting documents, comprising a spacious vision of the language and of the man, treating them in their totality and not only by the sociological or anthropological point of view, but in a linguistic dimension, fact that allows us to understand the man and his interaction with the social group. The resource of the metalanguage and the application of the principles proposed by Konrad Koerner are privileged in our analysis. We value the documentary character of the Piparotes texts produced by Cruz e Sousa for O Moleque newspaper between 1885, and which were taken like sample, coming to think that such texts were significant in the society of the time and helped rebuilding reality linguistically / Nesta Dissertação, ao aproximar Língua e História da realidade social com o objetivo de examinar a língua portuguesa em uso no Brasil e as referencias ao homem negro e à abolição da escravatura durante o século XIX, obtivemos como resultado a identificação de características da época.

Preta, preta, pretinha: o racismo institucional no cotidiano de crianças e adolescentes negras(os) acolhidos(as) / Black, black, little black: the institucional racism in everyday life of welcomed black children’s and teenagers

No. of bitstreams: 1 Márcia Campos Eurico.pdf: 1131630 bytes, checksum: dc73d93f3b2f7dbc6f76ce1fa15758cb (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-05-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The research has sought to analyse how the institutional racism takes place in black children's and teenagers daily routines and how much thispractice keeps deep relation to the accredited forms of black bodies control during slavery period in Brazil. The methodological procedures involved bibliographic documental research from 3 axes: racial democracy, institutional racism and institutional sheltering, whose analytical reading allows it to establish the criticism to the infancy attention model, materialised into the service daily routine; and field research in the institutions with the realization of focus group directed to the professionals. By immersing into the complex institutional sheltering process, behind the appearance of a safe place - with a roof, warm bed and five daily meals - a fact that professionals present it as a synonym of sheltering, what in fact is revealed as a projected institution to frame these children and adolescents, condemn them to confinement and reinforce, besides the non-belonging concept, their families' degeneration. If the daily-life is a place for thoughtless practices and loaded with ideology, the institutional sheltering services also incorporate these practices and perform the institutional racism, without embarrassement, because they represent the State which has played their eminent role of "poor" infancy and adolescence guardian. It is concluded that the institutional sheltering service target public has history, social class and race/color, and the priority task is to emerge this history so that the essence of sheltering phenomenon may be known as one more maneuver of controlling capitalism over the worker's class / A pesquisa buscou analisar como se materializa o racismo institucional no cotidiano de crianças e adolescentes negros(as) e o quanto esta prática guarda profunda relação com as formas legitimadas de controle dos corpos negros no período da escravidão no Brasil.

"'Am I Black Enough for You ?' Basket-ball, médias et culture afro-américaine aux États-Unis (1950-2015)" / "'Am I Black Enough for You? Basketball, Media, and Afro-American Culture in the US (1950-2015)"

Descamps, Yann 04 December 2015 (has links)
As a global cultural phenomenon, basketball is portrayed as a “black” sport, in spite of its origins in Mainstream America. What lies behind this acculturation in reverse, whereby a minority appropriates a sport of the majority? In what sense is the Afro-Americanness of basketball a political, cultural and social construct? What role do the media play in the representation of this link established between Afro-American culture and basketball? And to what extent does this link find itself reflected in the other elements of the Afro-American popular culture? The research methodology calls on various disciplines, from cultural history to media studies, including semiology. It relies on a complex corpus that includes ethnographic observation, the analyses of the comments of NBA matches, documentaries as well as audiovisual productions (movies, TV series, music). It aims at revealing the storytelling constructed by the NBA, as well as the representing in words and music of the Afro-Americanness of the basketball. The research highlights several phases in the evolution of the sport, from Political to Symbolic to Corporate with a recent Progressive phase of return to politics. The analysis of the comments of the Finales NBA reveals the representation of the black athlete through the media prism. Mixed with this storytelling, the issue of race is elaborated within an American sports mythology where the relation to the Other is mediated by the athletic and racial performance of the players. The study of popular culture underlines the visual importance of the black body and the figure of the Black Baller. The process of acculturation and cultural appropriation is thus partially related to the initiative of the Afro-American community but the media and the popular culture they convey play an essential role in the framing of the black Basketball player within the narrative of American togetherness.

Green Politics et aménagement urbain durable à Baltimore : la racialisation du développement durable au coeur du traitement des ghettos / Green Politics and sustainable urban planning in Baltimore : the racialization of sustainable development in the heart of the revitalization of the ghettos

Baffico, Stéphanie 19 September 2017 (has links)
Baltimore is part of the big American metropolises committed in a race for sustainable development. Traditionally a democratic stronghold, with a majority of city dwellers who are poor Afro-Americans, and harshly battered by the industrial crisis and the economic recession, Baltimore City is the perfect laboratory for urban planning projects experimenting sustainable development. Furthermore, with regard to its economic and demographic characteristics and the importance of segregation in the city, the social dimension of sustainable development and the issue of environmental justice are at stake. Since 2000, the Mayor and the City Council initiated two ambitious projects integrating the various aspects of sustainable development (« sustainability », « livability » and « smart growth »), which are all belonging to « green politics ». These efforts are focused on East Baltimore and West Baltimore, two huge ghettos surrounding the financial district in the downtown area. The core of our analysis concerns two projects of green politics (the rehabilitation of a part of the East Baltimore ghetto through the Grand Piano; the Red Line, a train connecting the ghettos, some industrial wastelands and the Central Business District). Through these examples, we will put under study the types of urban governance and urban regimes at work, and the role played by the different stakeholders (« anchor institutions », philanthropic foundations, public actors and neighborhood associations). New forms of citizenship may appear with unheard modes of participation to sustainable urban planning. Sustainable development may be an opportunity to improve the living conditions in the ghetto and fight against poverty and social and environmental injustices. The seamy side of the story may be a racialization of sustainable development nourishing gentrification, creating new forms of segregation and bringing about the death of the ghettos.

Transnationalisation religieuse : un temple d’umbanda à Montréal

Hernandez, Annick 12 1900 (has links)
Religious practices in North Atlantic countries are evolving, and there are particular cases where one can observe a changeover from institutional beliefs towards forms of spirituality issuing from a variety of traditions, many of which appeared on the scene towards the middle of the 20th century. The present thesis aims to shed some light on one facet of contemporary religious diversity; following up on questions which arose in the course of this exploration, it also addresses issues underlying the anthropological analysis of religious groups, for instance how to approach fieldwork, and how to consider such a group. To this end I have chosen to describe a religious group in Quebec which is linked to an Afro-Brazilian cult named Umbanda, and which is part of a transnational network of Umbanda temples. I shall begin by setting out how Umbanda developed in Brazil, since this informs us as to, for instance, the likelihood of permeability of such a tradition once it is “planted” in Northern soil. I will then analyse the type of transnationalisation that was at work when the Montreal group was set up, since this provides relevant indicators allowing us to determine how the group settles into the religious landscape of different countries. Finally, by examining the religious practices of members of the group, I shall attempt to elucidate a number of distinctive local features.

In this sense, The female voice in literature of African ascendency: hybridism of myths and rites in the novels Niketche of Paulina Chiziane and The Color Purple of Alice Walker is a study that suggest literary-cultural reflections on the constructions of identities in these works. The research focuses on the construction of the subject through his speech and establishing the relationship with remarkable images in search of otherness namely, the mirror, unfolded in the letter, and the bed in addition to pointing out the problem of myths and rites as matrices to a new voice defined by cultural hybridism and fixed in orality. Finally, this research tries to describe the similarities and differences with respect to oppression and exclusion of marginal voices in case of the female voice of African ascendency examining them in what they have of challenging and transgressive in front of eurocentrical, patriarchal and theological assumptions, as they are presented in these works / A presente dissertação associa os Estudos Literários aos Estudos Culturais com o objetivo de aproximar literaturas que apresentam sujeitos historicamente constituídos.
