Previous issue date: 2014-12-10 / Historically, innovation is considered a key element for competitiveness and economic growth of countries, and contribute to face the emerging challenges, such as
increased global demand for food, social inequality and climate change. Following this logic, the Brazilian government adopted a policy of science, technology and innovation (ST & I),
supported by qualified for the generation of new knowledge and technologies focused on biotechnology research human resources. The proceeds from the Agribusiness Sector Fund
(CT-Agro), not only ensure the leadership of Brazil in world trade in agricultural commodities, as has been contributing to the increase in per capita income from the northeastern states. Thus, considering the dynamism of the state of Rio Grande do Norte in the horticulture sector, the purpose of this study was to analyze the contribution of the CT -Agro resources for the growth of the state and to improve the social and environmental indicators. In the methodology, we adopted a model of linear regression with panel data to
estimate the average effects of elasticity (CT-Agro) explanatory variable with respect to per capita GDP (dependent variable). Funds invested in agribusiness, in the period from 2000 to
2009, among the 27 states, corresponding to a sample of 270 observations were analyzed. Among the statistical methods used to estimate the coefficients, Method of Fixed Effect, was
the most suitable for the large adjustment of the data (R2 = 99%). The results showed, however, that resources for agribusiness cause positive effects to increase the income of the
Natal economy. It can be concluded that investments in STI, give greater dynamism and efficiency in the production chain, and may be reflected in social and environmental benefits / Historicamente, a inovação é considerada elemento-chave para à competitividade e o crescimento econômico dos países, além de contribuir para o enfrentamento dos desafios emergentes, como o aumento da demanda mundial por alimentos, as desigualdades sociais e as mudanças climáticas.

Resíduos de agroindústrias familiares: Impactos na qualidade da água e tratamento com técnicas simplificadas / Waste of agro-industry family: Impact on water quality and treatment with techniques simplifiedCopetti, André Carlos Cruz 26 February 2010 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Human activities have altered the environmental quality especially with regard to water sources. The agro-industry activity in small scale may represent a potential pollutant different from those of other agricultural activities, and, therefore, there is the need to search alternatives to minimize its impacts. This work aims to: (a) assess the quality and quantity of waste solid and liquid Small Scale Agroindustry Family (b) characterize the Small Scale Agro-industry Family in the types of waste and pollution potential, (c) assess the impacts of Small Scale Agro-industry Family in the quality of surface
water, and (d) evaluate the efficiency of a simplified treatment of liquid waste. The study was conducted in agricultural members of the group "Rede da Casa; Network Home" of the Fourth Region of the Colony of Italian immigration of Rio Grande do Sul. The thesis was divided into three studies: the first study addressed the characterization of family agro-industry of small scale, the second assessed the impact of agricultural practices on water quality of four streams, and the third addressed
the treatment of poultry slaughter waste, production of cheeses, and wines and juices. The waterways are contaminated along the way within the property by different sources of contamination. The Small Scale Agro-industry Family is just one activity that can contribute to poor environmental quality. There is production of organic residues in Small Scale Agro-industry Family, both in liquid and solid form. These have low negative impacts released directly into the environment. The root zones of plants are efficient in the removal of organic and biological contaminants, but constant maintenance must be
made. For some types of waste, it is essential to have flotation and deposition tanks and physical filtration tank.

Using Acrobeloides sp. (Cephalobidae) and Oryza sativa (Poaceae), we aimed at (i) studying the effects of bacterivorous nematodes on plant functions growing in a nutrient-poor soil in Madagascar, (ii) testing the mechanisms involved in the mutualistic activity of the bacterivorous nematodes in a strong P-depleted Ferralsol from the highlands of Madagascar, and (iii) identifying the agronomic and edaphic factors that can drive the soil microbial loop. Two pathways have been proposed to explain the positive effects of bacterial-feeders on nutrients availability and plant functions: mineralization pathway and exploration pathway. In order to test the involvement of each pathway in the mutualistic activity of bacterivorous nematodes, we assessed the effect of nematodes inoculation on inorganic P flows from soil to plant using the 32P labelling technique. When the soil pH was corrected with dolomite lime, we showed that the presence of Acrobeloides sp. improved net P mineralization and plant (Oryza sativa) functions (growth and nutrition) but did not alter lateral root growth as protists do. Indeed, in the presence of nematodes and dolomite, the shoot L-value increased by 49%, the plant total biomass increased by 22% and the plant total P amount increased by 9%. Thus, Acrobeloides sp. increased plant P uptake through the "nutritional" or "mineralization" pathway. The effects of Acrobeloides sp. on Oryza sativa functions were variable (positive, neutral or negative) according to agricultural practices and soil abiotic variables. First, these effects may depend on the rice cultivar used in the experiment. Indeed, the nematodes attractancy to root-adhering soils varied according to upland rice cultivar, probably according to the amount and composition of root exudates. The mutualistic activity of nematodes is also influenced (maximized) by the presence of trees (agroforestry) in the rice field. Besides plants, the abiotic soil parameters were key drivers. The mutualistic activity of nematodes was strongly limited by the ability of Ferralsols to precipitate and chemisorb phosphates. The addition of dolomite lime limited phosphates sorption on soil and enhanced the mutualistic activity of the nematodes. Also, the high values of soil pH and Mg content tended to increase the mutualistic activity of the bacterivorous nematodes on rice growth and nutrition. To conclude, we found that it is possible to drive the mutualistic activity of bacterivorous nematodes in poor tropical soils through specific soil and agricultural practices.

Avaliação de impactos ambientais da integração lavoura-pecuária: estudo de caso da inovação tecnológica da Embrapa / The assessment of the environmental impact of agriculture-cattle raising integration - Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Agency) technology innovation case studyCaroline Alves Galharte 30 March 2007 (has links)
The agribusiness has been taking advantage of new technologies becoming prominent in the Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Like any other human activity, the practice of agriculture and cattle raising produces waste, and as a result it can create environmental impact. Therefore, it is necessary to assess, predict, and lessen the environmental impact for the sustainability of this activity and for the ecosystems protection. The Brazilian Agricultural Research Agency (Embrapa) has proposed a system, the environmental impact assessment of agricultural technology innovations(Ambitec-Agro), focusing on the agriculture-cattle raising integration which aims at improving the production of farming products in areas already deteriorated; intensifying the use of land; and recuperating and renovating agricultural areas and pastures already deteriorated to guarantee agricultural sustainability. Thus, this study adopts the Ambitec-Agro system in the experimental unit Capivara Farm, which comprises the National Rice and Beans Research Center (Embrapa Arroz e Feijão) in the state of Goiás. This methodology proposes carrying out interviews in order to obtain data. Researchers at National Rice and Beans Research Center (Embrapa Arroz e Feijão), Embrapa Cerrados (Cerrados), and Embrapa Headquarters (Sede), were interviewed. Based on a case study, this work aimed at the assessment of the environmental impact created by technology innovation of the agriculture-cattle raising integration in unirrigated and irrigated areas by applying the Ambitec-Agro system. The environmental impact of agriculture-cattle raising integration coefficients, in both unirrigated and irrigated areas, demonstrate that technology innovation contributes effectively to the sustainability of this productive activity in the area studied.

Previous issue date: 2006-12-19 / The role of the agribusiness has been extremely important in the context of the
Brazilian production in terms of both economic values and employment generation.
However, the agribusiness specific characteristics have not been sufficiently considered
in the literature and even in the development of Production Planning and Control
Systems. This thesis is an attempt to fulfill this lack. Two basic aspects were taken into
consideration. First, the thesis provides a classification system that allows for
identifying those enterprises according to their special characteristics. Second, the
architecture of a Planning and Control System is proposed in order to address the main
needs of agri-industries, which are dedicated to the raw material splitting up, such as
slaughterhouses and mills. In that architecture, it is particularly taken into account
demand forecasting and raw material availability restriction. Also, a rule of master
production scheduling have been built taking into consideration the simultaneous
generation of co-products, which can or not to be immediately needed.
O segundo é a
moageiras.

Previous issue date: 2010-12-08 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.) cultivated under conventional production systems are frequently disturbed by insects and diseases. Synthetic organic pesticides that are used to manage tomato crops have been harmful to human being and environment as well. Fruits of tomato are very sensitive to handling and its quality is highly influenced by the crop system and post-harvest practices. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of high dilution preparations to manage pest and disease, and post-harvest conservation of tomatoes under organic production systems. Experiments were conducted as follow: a) Two experiments under field conditions; b) one experiment in greenhouse; c) one bio-assay concerning post-harvesting; d) twelve bio-assays in vitro conditions. The experiments were conducted in the Lages Experimental Station area of EPAGRI and at Centro Agroveterinario of University of Santa Catarina State, SC. Treatments consisted of high dilutions of Staphysagria, Arsenicum album, Sulphur at 12CH (centesimal hahnemaniana dilution), and Arnica montana, Sulphur, tomato, and jua (Solanum aculeatissimum), nosodes at 12 and 24DH. Bourdoux mixture at 0.3%, Cupric formulation EEC at 50 ppm, and Bacillus thuringiensis were included as standard treatments. Data were from field experiments consisted of septoriosis incidence (Septoria lycopersici), insect occurrence, damage caused by Agathomerus sellatus, yields, and fruit quality attributes. Data analysis was performed throughout statistical package. Results showed that Staphysagria 12CH and Arnica Montana 12DH could increase tomato fruit weigh. Damage caused by tomato caterpillars were reduced by spraying Sulphur 12CH and Bacillus thuringiensis. B. thuringiensis reduced also the incidence of septoriosis. High dilution preparation interfered to insect occurrence and reduced the damage of Agathomerus sellatus in the stages of larvae and adults. Tomato plants treated by jua nosodes at 12 and 24CH increased the SST (° Brix) contents, which gives better qualities of processing and palatability, as well. In the greenhouse experiment, it was evaluated the treatments of Arnica montana, Sulphur, tomato and jua nosodes, all at 12 and 24DH dinamization. Bourdoux mixture at 0.3% and cupric formulation EEC at 50 ppm were considered as standard treatments. It was observed that tomato nosodes at 12DH and 24DH supressed the septorioris incidence. In the post-harvest bio-assay, fruits were treated with Calcarea carbonica at 6, 12, 24CH dinamizations. The evaluation was concerning chemical contents and physical attributes. Calcarea carbonica post-harvest treatment did not affected the acidity, SST (° Brix), hardness or the weight losses of tomato fruits. However, Calcarea carbonica 24CH delayed the fruit maturation in such way that the kind sauce fruit was reduced. In the laboratory bio-assays the follow high dilution preparations were studied: Staphysagria, Arsenicum album, and Nitricum acidum at 6, 12, 25, 30, 50, 60, 80, and 100CH 11 dinamizations. All preparations were tested in two media combined by two application methods into Petry dishes with colonies of the fungus Alternaria solani. Bioassay was studied by measuring the diameter of the colonies. The measurements were made from 24h until the 10th day after install the assays. It was observed that the media with basic composition were more suitable to screening high dilution preparations against A. solani before to test in the field. The application method of high dilution preparations over the fungus colony was better than incorporated one. The use of high dilution preparations has the potential effect to replace pesticide used on tomato crops and it would be a suitable management strategy to fill legal requirements for organic production systems.

Agroecologia como prática social: feiras agroecológicas e insubordinação camponesa na Paraíba / Agro-ecology as social practice: agro-ecological fairs and peasant\'s insubordination in ParaíbaThiago Araújo Santos 15 December 2010 (has links)
Taking as base the analytical instrumental developed in the Geography, particularly in the Human Geography, this work presents an analysis of some agro-ecological fairs organized by peasants of settlements and rural communities located in Paraiba. The investigation of relative aspects to the process of formation of the agro-ecological fairs analysed, as well as of specific elements of the organization, production and marketing, made us consider them as a strategy shaped by the peasants and technical advisers with the purpose of making feasible the overcoming of adversities in the productive process and, also, of circulation of the agricultural production. In this way, as a consequence of the undertaken investigation, the agro-ecological fairs were equated as a result of an effort of the peasants from Paraíba guided to the overcoming of mechanisms of subordination to the commercial and industrial capital in the countryside. Constituted as ways of peasants insubordination, the agro-ecological fairs studied contributed, in great measure, to make feasible a major control of this portion of the peasantry on the familiar work and its products, materializing, in this manner, territorial fractions composed by important specificities.

Les paysages des Bornes-Aravis (Haute-Savoie) : évolution des dynamiques territoriales, enjeux pour le tourisme / Landscapes in moutains of Bornes-Aravis -(Haute-Savoie, France) : spatial dynamics evolutions, stakes for the tourismMoutard, Robert 14 October 2014 (has links)
Of the five northern french pre-Alpine ranges to which it belongs, the mountains of Bornes-Aravis has a distinctive feature that is intriguing: it has only a very small nature reserve situated on the fringes of Lake Annecy. In this it differs from larger neighboring parks, and more recently, geoparks, all guarantee of maintaining a high quality of life.Reluctant to adopt any measure of territorial protection, local officials say that empiricism guided by wisdom, and traditional know-how of native populations, outweigh the establishment of protected areas whose effects would be prejudicial to their priority of economic development. In this context, it is reasonable to harbour fears about the sustainability of landscape aesthetics, which is an essential factor attracting tourists, a key driver of the alpine economy. Native societies readily adapting to the demands of the modern economy, whilst limiting alterations to their cultural and natural heritage. As a result of that process, one can notice the existence of a dynamic and relatively prosperous agro-pastoral system, essential to maintaining the quality of life. The inhabitants of the country say they want to prevent it forbecoming a land of leisure for city dwellers. However in the absence of specifically protected areas guaranteeing environmental quality, one can only wonder about the chances that the « dual balancing improvement » (Bätzing, Rougier, 2006) will be maintained. Patterns of territorial coherence that have recently been developed aware of these stakes. That is why the analysis conducted throughout this study will pay particular attention to the evolution of spatial dynamics affecting the future of scenic beauty, which constitues the essential richness of these highlands. This matter should be valued notably by a scientific mediation not sporadic and fragmentary such as it is it at present, but conceived according to a coherence in link with the identity of the territory.

The general objective of this thesis is to improve spatially distributed agro-hydrological models for agro-hydrosystems analysis, under climatic and anthropogenic changes, in order to contribute to the identification of levers of action to mitigate effects of non-point source agricultural pollution. This thesis is structured around three research questions related to: i) the representation of spatio-temporal dynamics of cropping systems for their use as input in distributed agro-hydrological models; ii) the representation of farm level and decisions of farmers in distributed agro-hydrological models; and iii) the ability of these models to simulate climate and anthropogenic changes.Elements of response to these questions are provided by modeling approaches carried out in different contexts and at different scales of space and time. These approaches are discussed by comparing them with other works carried out. These different studies raise the need to develop methodologies allowing (i) the acquisition of data and their integration in distributed agro-hydrological models (ii) and, the improvement of the use of simulations results, in particular to transform them into relevant and accessible information for stakeholders at territorial level. Perspectives, covering both uncertainties of the simulations of the agro-hydrological models and the analysis of the robustness of these models, are also considered

Effects of gastrointestinal parasitism and diet in small growing ruminants : production of goat meat in local livestock containers.Ceï, Willy 28 June 2017 (has links)
New agroecological guidelines are needed around the world to develop livestock systems that are adapted to the environmental, efficient and environmentally and socially beneficial ecosystem services requirements. The question arises singularly in our Caribbean territories and this in the context of an urgent demand in meat products of quality and ofhigh patrimonial value as is the goat meat in Guadeloupe. Small ruminants, mainly grazed, are exposed to gastrointestinal nematode (NGI) infestations, which are a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The deployment of adapted and applicable techniques in the field is necessary. Therefore, methods of integrated management of parasitism are recommended among which are studied the strategies of feeding of the animals. The ability of the host animal to tolerate adverse effects (resilience) or to control infestations by NGI (resistance) should be enhanced by food supplementation. The objective of this thesis was to define supplementation strategies for growing kidneys, the physiological stage most affected by NGI and whose zootechnical performances directly affect the incarne of producers (meat production).Discussions focus on the development of targeted complementing strategies and attempt to answer questions: how to complement? (ln energy, nitrogen or both); When to complement? (Delay effects or effects during an established infestation). lt was also a question oftesting the life-size recommendations and on several variables (physiopathological responses and zootechnical responses including carcass characteristics). In this sense this work has presented a certain originality. There was no statistically significant effect on carcass quality, however, in carcassinfected animals the carcasses were more degraded, especially with a low-protein diet. The complementation contribution was combined with a series of recommendations of integrated management of parasitism (genetic pathway, famacha method) and particularly a management strategy of mixed grazing with heifers. An increase in the zootechnical results (growth and carcass), body condition score and an improvement in physiological response, hematocrit) were obtained. A decrease in the number of anthelmintic treatments is also observed. This trial addressed the operationality of complementation for a breeder. In general, this work also opened up scientific questions about the interaction nutrition * parasitism with a focus on nitrogen nutrition to disconnect from the energy suooly
