Bittencourt, Christiane Meyre da Silva January 2003 (has links)
Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências Físicas e Matemáticas. Programa de Pós-Graduação em Química. / Made available in DSpace on 2012-10-20T18:36:55Z (GMT).

Evaluation of glyphosate tolerance and influence of plant growth stage and temperature on glyphosate efficacy in common lambsquarters (Chenopodium album L.)

DeGreeff, Randy D. January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Agronomy / Johanna A. Dille / Mithila Jugulam / Common lambsquarters (Chenopodium album L.) is an annual broadleaf weed species that competes with more than 40 crop species around the world. A biotype of common lambsquarters in north central KS (DK) was not controlled by a glyphosate application. Plant growth stage and temperature have been related to overall glyphosate efficacy on common lambsquarters. The objectives were to determine the: 1) tolerance of two biotypes of common lambsquarters to glyphosate, 2) efficacy of glyphosate on common lambsquarters at different growth stages, and 3) efficacy of glyphosate on common lambsquarters when grown at different temperatures. Greenhouse dose-response experiments, shikimate accumulation assay, and glyphosate uptake and translocation experiments were conducted using DK biotype and a known susceptible biotype (RL) of common lambsquarters for comparison. Dose-response results indicated elevated tolerance of the DK biotype to glyphosate based on the GR₅₀ (a dose causing 50% biomass reduction) values (373 g ae/ha for RL vs. 552 g ae/ha for DK). Similarly, the DK biotype accumulated slightly less shikimate in the leaf discs compared to the RL biotype. Minimal differences were observed in ¹⁴C-glyphosate uptake and translocation between the two biotypes. Greenhouse-grown common lambsquarters were treated with glyphosate at a field dose (1x) of 840 g ae/ha when they were 5-7, 10-12, 15-17 or 19-21 cm tall. Common lambsquarters were also grown in growth chambers for 1 wk maintained at d/n temperatures of 25/15, 32.5/22.5, or 40/30 C and then treated with 0-, 0.125-, 0.25-, 0.5-, 0.75, 1.0-, and 2.0-x rates of glyphosate at 8-10 cm tall. Visual injury was recorded 1 WAT and biomass was determined 2 WAT. Common lambsquarters plants treated at 5-7 cm were more susceptible than larger plants to glyphosate. Furthermore, plants were more susceptible to glyphosate when grown under lower temperatures of 25/15 C than higher temperatures. Overall, these results suggest that the DK biotype of common lambsquarters appears to have elevated tolerance to glyphosate. Additionally, glyphosate should be applied early in the season when plants are small and temperatures are cooler for optimal control of common lambsquarters.

As cores violetas: a construÃÃo da memÃria afetiva atravÃs da autoetnografia visual / The violet colors: the construct of afetive memory through a visual autoethnograph.

Fernanda Cunha Oliveira 21 September 2012 (has links)
This work is the result of an autoethnography process, realized from the experience of building a photographic self-narrative as an essay that will discuss issues which comes from this process related to memory as a key issue, offering an invitation to a reflection on the construction of my affective memory as a man in society and his representation in family albums. This research questions how the albums can represent the values of established rites in western culture and how the photography has a special place in the history of societies. It also investigates how my subjectivity and my anthropological and sociocultural heritage define the formation of images on my mind and the construction of my memory. And this is not only a question of my own, but as the work of every artist that is within his work. I use my experience as an artist to think about an issue beyond me. It is not a matter of just another one, but a matter that goes beyond me towards the other. Thus, we propose a visual autoethnographic methodological route in which the reality is the researcherâs universe. The project constructs a visual narrative at the end of the work resulting in a family album, but for that I develop this dissertation based on three correlated bases: image, memory and autoethnography. The picture as a form of dialogue and writing is the cornerstone of this work.

Por linhas e palavras: o projeto gráfico do livro infantil contemporâneo em Portugal e no Brasil / Through lines and words: the graphic composition of the contemporary children\'s book in Portugal and in Brazil

Mariana Cortez 30 September 2008 (has links)
The presented dissertation intends to investigate the graphic composition of children\'s books. The corpus of the research comprises the decades from 1980 to 1990 and the first years of the 21st Century, in Portugal and in Brazil, based on the selection of authors Manuela Bacelar (Portugal) and Roger Mello (Brazil). The choice of the corpus is justified because both were illustrators at first and then have become authors with double talent, that\'s to say, verbal and visual text producers. Besides this characteristic, both have developed a literary production dedicated to the juvenile public, based on the diversity of strategies and relations among semiotics systems, such as: picture books\' authors, picture books illustratorauthors\' and album formatted books\' authors. This last mentioned modality of text, in which there is integration between texts (verbal and visual) is in the center of the discussions and the consideration about its development in light of the French discursive Semiotics, that will also validate every analysis made and constitute the first chapter of this thesis dissertation.Following, the door to Portuguese children\'s books and to the development of album formatted books in such country are opened; also, there will be a detailed analysis of three works by Manuela Bacelar: O dinossauro (1990), A sereiazinha(1995) and Sebastião (2004). Each of the works will be approached considering the different relations between word-image and final composition in a graphic project that should constitute a whole. So, the works differ one from the other, as O dinossauro is a album-book, in which Bacelar is a double talented author; A sereiazinha is an illustrated-book, in which the Portuguese author illustrates the Hans Christian Andersen\'s classic and Sebastião exemplifies the genre in which, by means of images, the plastic artist tells the history. In the third chapter, the Brazilian context is focused and the teamwork emerges, as in the production of comic books, and becomes a key characteristic to the album-book genre\'s history in Brazil. Roger Mello is an author quite representative of this \'artistic tendency\' and the works chosen to be analyzed stand out by their team production and by their different relations\' (or relation degrees\') constitution between word and image in the composition of the graphic project. The following works will be analyzed with deeper attention: Jardins (2001) and Desertos (2006) verbal text of Roseana Murray; Fita verde no cabelo: nova velha história (1992), in which Mello ilustrates the tale of Guimarães Rosa and Vizinho, vizinha (2002), a work created by a team composed by the artists: Mariana Massarani, Graça Lima and Roger Mello and, still, the last signs it as its verbal text\'s author. Finally, in the fourth chapter it is possible to make a comparison between the album-book context and its characteristics in the Portuguese and in the Brazilian scenery, reaching some constants, such as the tendency to the pictorial trace in Portugal and to the graphism in Brazil. Therefore, from the two particular contexts, we can have a notion of the album-book as a genre increasingly present in the Juvenile Literature scene

Westgärds, Filip January 2017 (has links)

Effect of Azoxystrobin and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal Colonization on Four Non-Target Plant Species

Tbaileh, Tarek January 2012 (has links)
Azoxystrobin (AZY), a systemic broad-spectrum fungicide, is applied on crops to control soil-borne pathogenic fungi. This study aimed to determine the effects of AZY on non-target plant species and Glomus intraradices Schenck & Smith, an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) associated with plants' roots. We hypothesized that AZY negatively affects AMF viability; and that, if the plants were dependent on this symbiosis, AZY exerts an indirect detrimental effect on plant growth. To test this, three mycotrophic (Phalaris arundinacea L., Solidago canadense L., Geum canadense Jacq.) and one non-mycotrophic (Chenopodium album L.) native plant species were subjected to five AZY doses with or without AMF. Plants were grown for 60 days in a greenhouse, in individual pots, (4 plants X 2 AMF X 5 AZY X 6 replicates), and mesocosms (1 mes. X 2 AMF X 5 AZY X 6 replicates), and harvested 30 days after spraying, and dry mass was taken. Fresh root samples were used for microscopic assessment of AMF colonization. The results from the individual pot experiment show that the effects of AZY on biomass varied across plant species. AZY led to a significant increase in shoot and root mass of P. arundinacea, and a decrease in shoot mass of AMF inoculated G. canadense. The presence of AMF resulted in a significant increase in root and shoot mass of P. arundinacea, and an increase in root mass of S. canadense and shoot mass of C. album. In the mesocosm experiment AZY did not have a significant effect on the measured parameters, although the presence of AMF significantly increased root, shoot, and total dry mass of G. canadense and P. arundinacea. Conversely, AMF significantly decreased shoot and total dry mass of S. canadense. The results suggest that both direct and indirect effects should be taken into account when assessing the impact of pesticides on non-target plant species.

Cultivation to Supplement Residual Herbicides in Sugarbeet

Haugrud, Nathan Hans January 2018 (has links)
The migration of waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus) into northern sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris) growing regions has prompted sugarbeet producers to utilize inter-row cultivation in their weed management program as no currently registered herbicides can control glyphosate-resistant waterhemp postemergence. Field experiments were conducted to evaluate cultivation efficacy on waterhemp and common lambsquarters (Chenopodium album) and to evaluate cultivation safety on sugarbeet. Cultivation efficacy experiments demonstrated cultivation removes 65% of waterhemp and has no effect on further waterhemp emergence, but can be deleterious to common lambsquarters control if cultivation is timed before sugarbeet canopy closure. The ideal time to implement inter-row cultivation in sugarbeet is after sugarbeet canopy is closed and can suppress further weed emergence. Cultivation safety experiments demonstrated three cultivations as late as August 16 had no effect on sugarbeet yield and quality. Cultivation is a valuable tool to control glyphosate-resistant weeds with no deleterious effects if used correctly. / Sugarbeet Research and Education Board of Minnesota and North Dakota

Umělecko-pedagogický odkaz Aleny Fišerové / Artistic-pedagogical Legacy of Alena Fišerová

Böhmová, Andrea January 2019 (has links)
The Diploma Thesis is a presentation of the notable Czech piano teacher Alena Fišerová, who spent all her professional life at the "Vzorová hudební škola" (Model Music School) in Voršilská Str. in the borough of Praha 1. The first part of the Thesis focuses on her family background and childhood. Her studies and professional life are also described. This information is mostly based on witness accounts and memories of her former pupils and friends. Exact data was verified using personal documents available and the chronicles of the Vzorová hudební škola. The Thesis follows in detail her method of teaching the piano as well as the contribution that she presented in her day and time. Alena Fišerová did not leave her mark in piano pedagogy as a teacher alone but also as the creator of many sheet music compilations, either alone or in collaboration with others. The best-known titles out of her publishing activities are the Album etud I. - V. (Album of Études, vol. I - V), to this day possibly the most commonly used compilations at the Základní umělecká škola (Fine Arts School) in the Czech Republic. This works is the subject of detailed analysis and description in the following chapters. All five volumes of the Album etud are introduced and selected études from vol. I and II are analysed with regard to...

Klavír v soudobé albánské hudbě / Piano in Contemporary Albanian Music

Prifti, Egli January 2015 (has links)
This dissertation deals with comprehensive analysis of contemporary Albanian piano pieces. There have been selected compositions with artistic and educational value for these purposes. The pieces also represent different genres of Albanian piano music. Genres are exceptionally important in this view; the stylish range was reduced, in recent past. The reason was based not on cultural field, but on strict ideological rules. Piano music is embedded in a broader historical context that allows to stress the peculiarities of the Albanian musical language and thereby to clarify the uniqueness and value of selected compositions for the educational needs. Keywords Piano; album, folk-music; neoclassical style; analysis; pedagogical interpretation
