[en] THE RESSIGNIFICATION OF FAMILY IMAGES: COLLAGE AND DESIGN IN CONTEMPORARY AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL DOCUMENTARY FILM / [pt] A RESSIGNIFICAÇÃO DAS IMAGENS DE FAMÍLIA: COLLAGE E O DESIGN NO DOCUMENTÁRIO AUTOBIOGRÁFICO CONTEMPORÂNEO

CANDIDA MARIA MONTEIRO 08 April 2019 (has links)
[en] The study highlights critical theories of images in the philosophical and artistic areas, centering the question on different images in order to focus on individual autobiographic representations. The narratives of the self aim to produce Doppelgänger, evoking the past and promoting the recycling of family archives. A contemporary avant garde puts in motion the ressignification of images of family intimacy as means to make subjectivity surface. The collage shapes the aesthetics of these expressions, thus creating a bridge between film and design. Self-documentary breaks the paradigm of objectivity, and brings to light multiple identities that become universal through the unveiling of individual characteristics.

Ação do Viscum album em cultivo celular de carcinoma epidermoide de cabeça e pescoço / Viscum album effect in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cell culture

Klingbeil, Maria Fátima Guarizo 07 December 2010 (has links)
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, one of the most common malignancies worldwide in this area, became a public health problem that requires urgent attitudes to be taken in order to improve the quality of life of the affected patients, increasing survival that today valued at five years. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is a complex disease which includes several etiologic factors and different molecular changes that may trigger and get on with some events. In general, oral carcinomas are treated primarily with surgical excision or radiotherapy alone or in combination for cases in more advanced stages. Preparations of fermented extracts from fermented Viscum album (VA), a plant from the Loranthaceae family have been used, mainly in European countries, with promising results as adjuvant therapies, especially in the Anthroposophy Medicine. In combination with conventional therapies, VA has lead to improvement in quality of life of patients with cancer. in vitro studies have demonstrated that various types of VA may have cytotoxicity in carcinoma cells being able to activate the apoptotic cascade or leading cells to necrosis. The present study aimed to verify the effect of three types of VA extracts (Iscador Qu Spezial, Iscador P and Iscador M) in squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue (SCC9 and SCC25). The cytotoxic action of Iscador Qu Spezial was verified by cell viability test obtaining the IC50. The three drugs were tested as follow: Tunnel to evaluate apoptosis, Annexin V and FITC/propidium iodide were evaluated by flow cytometry to quantify the apoptosis rate induced by the drugs. Then we verified the expression levels of five genes (Akt1, Akt2, Akt3, PTEN and Cyclin D1) by qRT-PCR and their products (pAkt, PTEN and Cyclin D1) by immunofluorescence and Western blot. The concentration of 0.3 mg/mL (IC50) of the drugs presented positive results in the induction of apoptosis and showed different expression levels for the genes analyzed. Immunofluorescence assays evidenced that the proteins exhibited different locations and behaviors in the cellular compartments analyzed. Quantitative analysis of these proteins by Western-Blot, evidenced that they presented different levels of expression. Through this study, it was concluded that Iscador Qu Spezial drugs and Iscador M have higher cytotoxic potential on SCC9 and SCC25 cell lines when compared to controls and the drug Iscador P. It could also be concluded that the SCC9 cell line was more resistant to the action of the drugs examined.

Adilnor, Sana January 2022 (has links)
With the rise of Hallyu, or the global export of Korean culture also commonly known as ‘The Korean Wave’, South Korea has become a big trendsetter in recent years: whether it be within fashion and K-Beauty skincare or Korean movies and drama series, to Korean popular music, also known under the umbrella term K-pop. What these categories have in common are their strong ties to visual aesthetics and K-pop is known for its very colourful and maximalist design, which is also a key characteristic to why K-pop as a phenomenon has been particularly attractive and has managed to captivate fans all over the world. In the marvelling K-pop universe, the goal is to engage all the senses for a complete and interactive sensory experience, making the visual just as important as the auditory, and this can also be applied to the physical album design. Physical K-pop albums sell better than ever despite the digital streaming services dominating our digital age. A visual analysis was conducted on selected contemporary K-pop albums together with a survey on Swedish K-pop fans, in order to discuss how packaging design of K-pop albums can influence consumer behavior. The study showed that interactive packaging design and extra album inclusions like photocards, photo books, postcards etc. makes the fans more likely to want to collect albums and merchandise, which on its own can be viewed as a collectible item. The packaging design both facilitates and encourages fans to interact with the design not only visually, but also in a tactile way, by engaging in participatory behavior such as filming unboxing videos and posting them on social media, and it can also be associated with identity making, i.e. how they identify themselves as fans in relation to their favorite artists or towards other fans. Lastly, it is interesting to discuss how K-pop design can be heavily influenced by American and Western concepts despite being marketed as a Korean phenomena and innovation; from the visual analysis it could also be concluded that contemporary design trends draw inspiration from Western concepts such as the y2k millennium bug, retro and technology.

想像的實踐與夢的主題呈現──音樂專輯《Dream Walker》的創作與製作 / The Project of “Dream Walker”-- The Music Album of Dreaming Produced through the Process of Imagination

Lee, Yi Fen Unknown Date (has links)
Imagination is a media of telling stories. There are many ways to tell stories, which include words, pictures, music, videos, and so on. These are ways of making imaginations become stories. “Dreaming” is also a kind of imaginations, which will not be confined to no matter who, which, what, when, where, and how: it’s the freest attitude of imaginations. This project is to produce a music album. And “Dream” is the theme of this project, which includes both “Night Dream” and “Day Dream”. The idea of “Dystopia” also plays an important role when creating stories. Telling stories through music is the purpose and also the process of making imagination into practice in this project. A music album will be produced as the achievement of this project.

Rockalbumets grafik : Återkommande designelement och landstypiska utseenden – en visuell innehållsanalys / The graphics on rock albums : Reoccurring graphical elements and typical design based on country of origin – a visual content analysis

Ekedahl, Andreas January 2016 (has links)
This study is supposed to shed light on the design process behind album covers in the genre rock and give information about what should be displayed on them. Herein it is presented information about how the graphics on a record cover was relevant and didn’t follow the otherwise assumed declining trend. To be able to answer the goals set for the study, a visual content analysis was done and complementary information was gathered via searches on the internet. The aim with the study was to visually analyze cover art in the genre rock from three different countries of origin, these were Sweden, Great Britain and USA. Via the visual content analysis, categories and themes were structured. There were also created three different album covers, one for each country of origin that were based on the information of what should typically exist on the cover. Herein it is shown that designs from Great Britain and USA are much alike, whereas Sweden has a different style. In the study there was presented who decides the design of a new album and also concludes that from the albums in this content analysis there cannot be proven any designer who sets the generic tone for others.

The use of the fungus Ascochyta caulina as a biological control agent for the weed Chenopodium album : evaluation of the bioherbicide formulation efficacy of Ascochyta caulina on different life stages of the weed plant Chenopodium album under laboratory and field conditions comparing Libyan and UK populations

Asshleb, Almabrouk Amer January 2010 (has links)
Chenopodium album is considered one of the most important weeds adversely affecting agricultural production due to its highly competitive influence on field crops. Chemical herbicides have increased the efficiency of farming, but recently problems of herbicideresistant weed populations and herbicide residues in soil, water, food products and effects on non-target organisms have increased, consequently, other methods of control of weeds by using specific fungi as herbicides have been suggested. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the biological control of the weed Chenopodium album by the fungus Ascochyta caulina. Some of the factors which control dormancy and germination of Chenopodium album seeds have been investigated to understand better the weed population dynamics. The results showed that seeds from two populations (UK and Libya) differ in their response to factors such as light, chilling, and burying in soil. This could have implications for effective control of the weed in different regions. Two formulations of mycoherbicides (Tween 80 and Gelatine based applications) were tested in the laboratory, and showed promise in reducing growth of the weed, especially the formula of Tween 80. There was extensive shoot fresh and dry weight reduction of inoculated Chenopodium album, as well as reduced root growth. Highest disease severity rates were observed on plants in the first three week of life. A field trial revealed similar results but less disease severity was observed, possibly because of dry weather. However, it was concluded that the fungus Ascochyta caulina is a potentially useful biological control agent but many factors still can be modified in relation to application of the mycoherbicide to increase its efficacy.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Camila Lopes Garcia.pdf: 60395552 bytes, checksum: 07d82adc6bb5018e4fe7272cdd73b2d7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-12-01 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Because of the technology transition from analogue to digital, domestic photographies lost their shape and were immersed in the virtual environment (D. Kamper), or more specifically, on smartphones and social networks. That was what triggered the need of a new line of thought, either philosophical or anthropology of the fundaments of a "nodimensional technical image" (V. Flusser) or "post-photographic" (J. Fontcuberta). Thus, this research has as scope to investigate how to feature the memoralistic narrative in photographies, and seek a greater understanding of the "healing" process (W. Benjamin) and regeneration of affective bonds present in the autobiographical oral narratives. The question that motivated the research is: in the network culture, who is the narrator, or the speaker, of the personal stories? The initial hypothesis focuses on the idea that this communicational environment based on the concepts of "acceleration, global space and continuous time", developed by Lucrécia Ferrara, what commands the narrative memoirs is the program or simply "the machine". As an unfold, was also presented the "diver", a metaphorical image that attempts to translate the violence generated by the conditions imposed by an environment that favors the sense of distance, vision, subduing the body senses of proximity. The theoretical research used in this paper as a conceptual foundation are the tools proposed by Norval Baitello Jr. about "communication environments", "sedation" and "human extremophile". Malena Contrera contributes to the concept with "hypnogenic consciousness" and the powerful metaphor of "zombie" to represent individuals in the media society. Flusser contributes with his "general theory of gestures" and Walter Benjamin, a guide to the thesis, is assisting with the concepts of "experience", "rememoration" and "authentic narrator."

The transformations on the amateur photographic habits are analyzed, concerning the filing logic and its social function, due to the technological substitution and the individualization of the machine that produces images. To do so, based on historical and theoretical perspectives, the image is taken in relation to death from the rupestrian paintings to the techno-images, part of Ivan Bystrina s, Edgard Morin s, Régis Debray s and Hans Belting s studies and the sharing of private life photo albums in digital environment, sustained on Vilém Flusser s concepts of no thing , greed and cosmic brain , Norval Baitello s iconography, Dietmar Kamper s visibility crisis , Eugênio Trivinho s ideia of real time existence and Jean Baudrillard s concept of simulacrum . Three digital online photo albums were analyzed, which made possible the identification of two different analyses categories of photo collections on the internet: the ones that give real existence to the network member s profile and the ones that contribute to a common world mapping, due to the use of a search model, or information recovery, by folksonomy tags / A pesquisa "Coleções de imagens flutuantes: álbuns fotográficos digitais on-line" analisa o colecionismo fotográfico na passagem da mídia secundária para a mídia terciária, isto é, na transição do álbum de fotos tradicional para o álbum de fotos digital on-line alocado em redes sociais como o Orkut, o Facebook e o Flickr.

Carroll Best and the White Oak String Band: Old-Time Bluegrass From The Great Smoky Mountains

Olson, Ted 01 January 2014 (has links)
[Compilation CD featuring 1950s-era field recordings] Recently recovered recordings of Haywood County, N.C., musicians made nearly 60 years ago – which an Appalachian music expert describes as “the missing link between old-time string music and bluegrass” – are once again seeing the light of day and finding a new audience thanks to Great Smoky Mountains Association. Four years after the release of their Grammy-nominated “Old-Time Smoky Mountain Music,” GSMA producers follow up now with “Carroll Best and the White Oak String Band: Old-time Bluegrass from the Great Smoky Mountains, 1956 and 1959.” The new collection features more than 30 tracks, including such old-time favorites as “Tennessee Wagoner,” “Arkansas Traveler,” “Old Joe Clark,” “Soldier’s Joy,” as well as such modern tunes as “Banjo Boogie” and “Smoky Mountain Melody.” / https://dc.etsu.edu/etsu_books/1169/thumbnail.jpg
