Uvězněni v nekonečnu: Středoevropská panoramata a jejich role v procesech národní emancipace / Trapped in the Infinity: Central European Panoramas and Their Role in the National Emancipation Processes

Forejt, Matěj January 2020 (has links)
From pioneer times of C. W. Ceram on, many media-archaeology scholars' attention was attracted by on of the most monumental apparatuses - a panorama. Like in a case of many other optical toys, the panorama contains several phenomena of film medium a long time before its invention. In addition to that, the panorama is considered to be the first form of mass entertainment ever. All of its characteristics were defined already by Robert Barker, a British painter and an inventor of the panoramic painting. Contrary to an original way of its commercial exhibiting, a group of panoramas of the late 19th century was produced in a context of nationalist movements in Central Europe. This very group of panoramas is the main object of this thesis. Its main goal is to define an emancipatory-patriotic panorama as a specific media genre. Furthermore, related problems of media constancy, collective identity, and memory spaces are examined.

Le Christ thaumaturge et magicien : les miracles dans l'art paléochrétien (IIIe - VIème siècle) / Christ as a Thaumaturgist and Magician : miracles in Early-Christian Art (IIIrd - VIth Century)

Billot, Bertrand 25 March 2017 (has links)
This thesis proposes a new approach of the images of Christ as a miracle worker, between the 3rd and the 6th century, based on a corpus which aims for exhaustivity. In a first time, images are both analyzed in an analytical and structural way : each of the thirty-four miracles of Jesus is the subject of a detailed analysis of the biblical tex t; early Christian representations and contemporary patristic commentaries. Images are then replaced in their historical, social, spatial and theological context, from a serial and statistical perspective, in order to reconsider their diversified functions. Finally, this work explores, through the corpus of miracles, the question often debated in historiography, of the relationships between the thaumaturgical activity of Christ and that of magicians and prodigies makers in Late Antiquity.

The present research has as its main goal to do archaeological investigations in the region of Araraquara/SP and to use such investigations in works of heritage education. The research centered its attention in the accomplishment of archaeological works of survey and excavation, with the posterior laboratory analysis of ceramic sites materials from the proposed region of study. For the fieldwork, we selected the areas of the Middle Mogi-Guaçu basin (in the Rio Pardo basin) and the Middle Jacaré-Guaçu basin (in the Tietê River basin). We compared the resulting archaeological scenario gathered from the field research to the data already available from academic archaeological works and from Contract Archaeology accomplished in the region delimited by the rivers Piracicaba, Tietê, Pardo and Paraná, historically known as the ¿Araraquara fields¿. We also analyzed and confronted the ethno-historical and ethnographical sources with the archaeological findings, with the aim of reflecting about its influences in the construction of the image of the native in the State of São Paulo, as well as in his history and his contribution to the formation of the national identity. Finally, the work has centered attention in themes of archaeological theory that seeks to understand some anthropological concepts used by Brazilian archaeologists in relation to the ceramic sites and also to review the monolithic vision resulting from the a-critical usage of such concepts / Doutorado / Historia Cultural / Doutor em História

Heikkinen, Satu January 2008 (has links)
The objective of this study is to analyse the formation of older and ageing drivers in Swedish transportation policy. Documents from the Swedish Government, the Riksdag and, in a few cases, public authorities and newspapers are analysed. The discourse-analytical framework is inspired by Foucault’s archaeology, which is used as a tool box. The study identifies/constructs three periods in the formation of older and ageing drivers. In the first period (1934–1967) there is a discursive gap between statements about driver selection and traffic safety. Driving in ‘old age’ is a problem for medical expertise and mandatory tests are proposed. The proposals are rejected, as older people’s driving is not a problem in the discourse of traffic safety. In the second period (1967–1991) ‘older drivers’ is made up as a category of interest. ‘Older drivers’ become an accident population in the discourse of traffic safety due to changes in statistical practices. In the third period (1991–2006) a discourse of older peo-ple’s mobility is appearing alongside the discourses of traffic safety and driver selection. Moreover, the study traces how the statements of older and ageing drivers are ordered by more general ideas of the aged and ageing. Double discourses of ageing are followed by a dichotomisation in ‘healthy’ and ‘sick older drivers’ in the 1990s. The idea of an abrupt exit in old age alters to a more gradual exit, in its turn followed by challenging the very idea of exit.

Amorin, Lilian Bayma 20 December 2005 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 CPDOC2005LilianBaymaAmorin.pdf: 328076 bytes, checksum: 7aa0ffd9fb96a673655343fe243c913b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2005-12-20T00:00:00Z / Marajoara Ceramics: a path to understanding Pré-History in Amazonia' underlines the importance of disseminating science produced in research institutions. It does so through the study of the archaelogical Marajoara Collection under the responsibility of the Goeldi Museum. I attempt to demonstrate how scientific knowledge raises awareness and promotes recognition of the material culture of peoples already extinct, who even though did not know writing as we do, established a code of communication and social rules yet to be fully understood. The work aims at estimulating interest on the preservation of cultural heritage as means to realize how it may or may not had impact on society at present. Finally, I produced a catalogue 'Marajoara Ceramics: the communication of silence' which stresses the need to show items of the collection under study as means to share scientific knowledge with the whole of society.

L'abbatiale Sainte-Foy de Conques (XIe - XIIe siècles) / The abbey church Sainte-Foy in Conques in the eleventh and twelfth centuries

Huang, Lei 20 December 2018 (has links)
This archaeological study of the building of the abbey church of Sainte-Foy in Conques, which is mainly focused on facing stones, has a double objective: on the one hand, to discern, as much as possible, material indications likely to enlighten the progress of construction work; on the other hand, to understand technical and economic dimensions and, more generally, the site organisation of this major Romanesque building project. Archaeological data, such as masonry discontinuities, distribution of different petrographic types, stone-cutting techniques, masons’ marks and putlog holes, make it possible to propose a construction phasing, which offers an independent and efficient framework for study of the sculpture of Sainte-Foy. The sculpture evolution is thus traced, through a global stylistic approach. Artistic transfers between Conques, Santiago de Compostela and Auvergne have also been better defined, which leads to reconsider the chronology of Romanesque churches of Auvergne, especially as Conques and Auvergne were located in the same technical geography during the second half of the eleventh century.

The mortuary practices of pre-historic hunter-gatherers from Lagoa Santa region: a case study of the Santo Rockshelter archaeological site

Strauss, André Menezes 20 August 2010 (has links)
The Lagoa Santa region is famous for the quantity, quality and antiquity of its human skeletal remains. However, little is known about the mortuary practices of those who inhabited the region. According to literature this practices were very simple, expedient and homogeneous. In this dissertation, this scenario is challenged. Based on the descriptions of 26 human burials found in Lapa do Santo it was established that several distinct burial patterns occurred in the site during Holocene. Thereafter, the idea that in Lagoa Santa the mortuary practices were chronologically homogeneous can no longer be supported. Among the different burial patterns indentified in this site Pattern 1 highlights not only for its antiquity (8800-8200 BP) but also because it presents a strong emphasis in the manipulation of the body, including the oldest case of decapitation ever recorded in the New World. Thereafter, the burials from Lapa do Santo points to a more complex scenario for the mortuary practices in the region of Lagoa Santa than was previously though. Besides, it shows that contrary to was once believed, the emphasis on body manipulation during Early Holocene was not restricted to the Andean region, as was once thought. The mortuary practices of pre-historic hunter-gatherers from Lagoa Santa region: a case study of the Santo Rockshelter archaeological site.
