[en] AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP AND PERFORMANCE: A THREE-DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS / [pt] LIDERANÇA AUTÊNTICA E DESEMPENHO: UMA ANÁLISE TRIDIMENSIONAL

ANNA MARIA CALVAO GOBBO 29 October 2013 (has links)
[en] The present study analyzed the influence of authentic leadership on follower individual performance, investigating the psychological mechanisms that could explain this relation. The study was based on a sample of 315 individuals working in the field of oil distribution. Results indicated a direct relationship between authentic leadership and three types of individual performance – task performance, contextual performance and safety performance; besides a positive contribution in the development of subordinate’s psychological capital. Positive relations between individual psychological capital and performance were also found. It was also noticed that follower’s psychological capital seems to be a relevant path through which authentic leaders promote safety behaviors.

Authentic space

Jamison, Joan Mary January 2018 (has links)
This inquiry examines the lived experience of a believing Christian seeking authentic space on a secular academic course. It has come about as a result of an experience of both angst and transformation leading to the focus of this inquiry which is looking to answer the question of: 'How does a committed Christian with a belief in foundational truth, authentically relate and integrate their faith and new found knowledge in counselling practice and research on a secular training course'? Research literature acknowledges a growing interest and demand for further debate and research in the domain of integration of faith and psychotherapy and practice, where evidence points to there being a gap in training. Integration is acknowledged as problematic but specific challenges are noted as not being so well researched. The study is written in the form of a paradigmatic case study where the researcher is also the researched. It embraces a pluralistic methodology incorporating aspects of personal narrative, interpretive phenomenological analysis and tacit understanding as advocated by Polanyi. This inquiry explores both the problem encountered and the solution found. The problem was epistemological, that of a personal belief in foundational truth, the central tenet of the Christian faith and the challenge of co-habiting a secular relativist space. The purpose and goal of this inquiry is to both show and tell the process of integration, which allowed authentic space to emerge both personally and theoretically. An exploration of a personal epiphany of 'heart and mind' integration is pivotal in this inquiry. The key finding which made integration possible was the discovery of and engagement with both Michael Polanyi and C.S. Lewis and their progressive theories of knowledge: theories which embrace both fundamental Christian belief and the fundamental values and theories taught in the dialogue of both person-centred and psychodynamic approaches. This study and reflexive analysis has created the basis of a body of work, which can be used as a means of support for Christian trainees who encounter similar challenges in academic spaces and in practice in this postmodern age. It can also be of benefit to trainers and course designers and counselling practitioners as they engage and dialogue with this re emerging phenomena. Finally this inquiry can be the catalyst for further research and development in order to begin to bridge the epistemological gap encountered in training.

Evaluating Positive Psychology Curriculum Among Nontraditional Students in a Foundational Course

Rhodes, Ruth Hilton 01 January 2016 (has links)
Positive psychology emphasizes growth, adaptive functioning, and human potential. The present study contributes to this literature by examining the impact of exposure to a positive psychology curriculum among nontraditional students taking foundational courses in a career college. Mixed methods were utilized to assess changes in student well-being and goal setting quantitatively through pre- and post-tests of the Authentic Happiness Survey and the Satisfaction with Life Scale as well as identifying emergent themes from qualitative analysis of student reflections and written assignments over a 9-week term. Twenty-five students participated in foundational courses, which placed an emphasis on positive psychology. Paired samples t tests, Cohen's d, thematic analysis, and a researcher-designed Likert-scale assessed changes from the beginning of the course to the end among the quantitative and qualitative measures of overall well-being and goal attainment. Some of the notable findings included significantly positive changes in students' reports of authentic happiness, and 76% of students reporting that they had attained an academic, social, and personal goal over the course of the 9-week curriculum. Change in self-reported satisfaction with life approached, but it was not statistically significant. Thus, the implementation of a positive psychology curriculum in a nontraditional student population created positive social change in this particular sector of academia and was associated with increased overall well-being and attainment of goals.

Strategies for Reducing Nurses' Turnover in Specialty Care Clinics

Benjamin, Lawrence 01 January 2019 (has links)
The nursing shortage and high turnover rates are a problem in Canada and the world over. The purpose of this single case study was to explore leadership strategies that nurse leaders in specialty care clinics in Canada use to reduce nurse turnover. The participants were 7 nurse leaders from a single organization with specialty care clinics across Canada who all had above average nurse retention rates when compared to the case organization's average nurse retention rate. The authentic leadership theory was the conceptual framework. Data sources for this study were company documents, participants' semistructured interview responses, member checking of the interviews, and reflexive journal notes. Methodological triangulation was used to enhance validity. Data were analyzed using Yin's 5-step approach to qualitative data analysis. Data analysis yielded 4 categories of strategy themes for reducing nurse turnover: moral perspective, self-awareness, relational transparency, and balanced processing. The results of this study have the potential for positive social change in specialty care by providing senior leadership and nurse leaders of specialty care clinics with strategies that can contribute to nurse-retention initiatives. The availability of more nurses might improve the outcomes of patients who depend on these clinics for their regular infusion of specialty medicines to treat their critical illnesses, such as cancer or rare genetic diseases, where delay in treatment due to the unavailability of nurses can result in adverse consequences for patient care.

En rättvis lärare är en bra lärare : Gymnasielever på samhällsprogrammet ger sin syn på lärare

Månsson, Linda, Olsson, Jane January 2010 (has links)
Media often discusses school, teachers and students. These discussions are often based on an adult perspective and students' views on the subject are not enhanced. Therefore, this paper intends to examine students' views on what they think makes a good teacher. Previous research shows that a good teacher can create the conditions for good learning based on the needs of students, and this is therefore important to investigate. The theoretical basis for this essay is the definition of an authentic teacher that which in this essay will be discussed from the point of view of Fibaek Laursen (2004). A quantitative research method was used and a questionnaire asked for high school students' views on what makes a good teacher. The research revealed two results where the first result showed that amongst other things students valued most in a good teacher is the fair and unbiased treatment towards students. The second result showed that students consider the characteristics linked to a teacher's profession are of great importance. Our conclusion is therefore that students consider the fair teacher which has a great engagement in his/her work to be the good teacher that they ask for.

På riktigt : Fyra lärares erfarenheter av blogg i undervisningen / It gets real : Four teachers' experiences from using blog in teaching

Thegel, Nathalie January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to find out what experiences teachers have from using a class blog in teaching. What are the advantages and disadvantages by the use of blogs in education? I have used qualitative interviews with four teachers in grades 1 to 6 who have worked with a class blog in teaching between one and three years. The study has shown that teachers' experience is that the blog serves as motivation and promotes learning for many different pupils and that, together with other digital tools is more equal. The main benefits that teacher mention is the expanded concept of text that offers multiple forms of expression and the authentic reader, which makes it more real, important and meaningful. Other benefits that come up are that it helps students to see their learning and learn from and with each other. The teachers think that the blog makes the students work, learning and differences visible in a positive way while difficulties become less visible. According to the teachers it creates a sense of belonging. They also feel that it increases the digital literacy, the computer becomes a tool and the blog has together with other ICT-tools for some of the teachers contributed to a different teacher role. One of them says that one advantage is that everything is archived, you can see what you have done earlier and it keeps things in order. The study indicates that the blog promotes pupils with both strong and weak writing skills, as the writing is not dependent on fine motor skills, digital tools make the text easier to write and the ability to adapt to the pupils’ abilities and interests. That’s a big advantage, according to the teachers in the study. Some of the teachers experiences that girls have a strong interest and confidence in the blog, especially when it comes to writing. The teachers find it hard to see disadvantages, but mention the dependence of effective IT support as technology causes trouble and the need for routines in the beginning as it may take some time to learn the tools, yet a teacher says that the blog saves time after a while. They also believe that you need to think in advance about what you publish. The teachers emphasize that the blog is only a tool in the teacher’s hands, which has to be based on a pedagogical idea.

Returning to the well : an inquiry into women's experiences in community-based expressive movement sessions

Davison, Mischa Louise 22 April 2009
The present study explored 12 womens experiences in five community-based improvisational movement sessions. The study was two-pronged in nature, attending to the experience of expressive movement and somatic awareness exercises as well as the experience of gathering together as women. Session activities were taken from movement and somatic practices such as Authentic Movement, the 5Rhythms®, YogaDance®, the Big Fat Ass Dance Class®, theatre-based exercises, contact improvisation and African Dance. The chosen methodology was hermeneutic phenomenology using a weekly sharing circle, post-session interviews, and journal entries as data. Although inquiring into both psychological and movement experiences, the study did not derive from a formal Dance/Movement Therapy perspective but instead, prioritized the womens own voices in order to elucidate the inherent experience and worth of expressive movement within a community framework. Three core constructs arose from my analysis: Conscious Embodiment, Conscious Play and Conscious Connection. The underlying role of relationality is highlighted in the final chapter. Findings contribute to a preventive and resiliency orientation as opposed to the more typical clinical and therapeutic research found in the field of Dance/Movement Therapy.

Problem-framing behaviours of an instrumental music teacher in studio and large group contexts

Krips, Ian Wayne 26 April 2005
The focus of this case study was on the problem-framing activities of one teacher within two teaching contexts large group and studio. This study was grounded in Schöns research on reflective practice and sought to answer the following research questions: 1. What are the teachers problem-setting behaviours in the studio and large class context? As the teacher resets problems; (a) what frame-experiments are carried out by the teacher in each context? (b) Are these experiments similar or different? (c) How do these frame-experiments change with each iteration? 2. What type of teacher feedback is given to students in each of these contexts? 3. What tacit teacher understandings are at work in each context? 4. What are the similarities and differences in assessment techniques used in a studio and large group context? Interpretation of the data revealed several differences in how one teacher framed problems in the studio and classroom contexts. Findings from the data suggest ways that teaching strategies commonly employed in studio teaching might be applied to classroom music teaching.
