The City and The Stage: Ethics of Performance in Ex-Yugoslavia

MacNelly, Julia 01 January 2014 (has links)
In this project, contemporary theater and performance art is examined in four cities in ex-Yugoslavia. War has pervaded all of the sites in some way, interrupting a sense of normalcy, altering the city physically as well as ideologically. For that reason, interaction with urban space becomes a central element in performances—whether it serves to preserve the city’s identity amidst destruction, to cleanse the city from the shame of official exploits, to break from the insular legacy of nationalism that flooded the streets, or to gather the city together in a process of collective healing.

Prinz-Eugen-Marsch, Partitur / Prince-Eugene-March, general score

Buike, Bruno Antonio 24 August 2011 (has links) (PDF)
On the melody of "Prince Eugene, the wright honourable knight" in the Battle of Belgrad 1717 as preserved in "Musikalische Rüstkammer auf die Harffe", Lipsiae, started in 1719, but there an APPENDIX from estimated only around 1800, a doublette of which as single sheet of unknown origin is in Museum for Army History, Vienna. Musical treatment is NOT following Prussian-German traditions - but "k.u.k. Austrian-Hungarian" traditions of socalled "(Military) Banda" with some "Italienita" in it. This work has been accepted by today Austrian Army, Military Music Branch and complete paper-editions are additionally avaiable in National Szechenyi Library, Budapest and in German National Library. This investigation is about a content analysis performed with the aid of three categories created based on the fundamental principles of environmental education as expressed in the Belgrade Charter (1977). Before the proposed by the reference document, the research sought to identify some elements related to environmental education, such as: treatment of social, political, economic, cultural and scientific environmental issues. The results showed that all books reviewed presented the environmental theme through different approaches. The readings, together with data organization, have enabled the creation of a thematic map and a descriptive framework that listed the themes found in each Textbook, as well as its distribution in different chemical content. The analysis identified some aspects, constructed with elements of the Charter Belgrade, within the categories scientific knowledge, knowledge/awareness and participation. In the first category were identified and analyzed aspects concerning the relationship of the content with the environment, the limitation of science face to the environmental challenges, the importance given by Textbook to the scientific knowledge for environmental understanding, the importance of knowledge and technology in the service of human needs. In the second one, knowledge/awareness, the analysis identified social, behavioral, economic and political aspects of the environmental issues. In the Participation category, aspects about the development of sense of responsibility and evaluation capacity were identified, in addition to raising awareness. The survey concluded that some environmental issues are treated in a decontextualized way by shredding the dimension of environmental problems which can reduce the complexity of the relationships between humanity and nature. Although not all books embrace all the principles of Belgrade Charter and even though there is an overestimation of the value of scientific knowledge to the detriment of other determinants for current ecological condition, it is concluded in this survey that the chemistry textbooks can contribute to achieve environmental education in Brazilian schools emphasizing the need for studies about the relationship between the triad components "scientific contents, teacher training and textbook" as one of the relevant aspects to effective consolidation of environmental education in the formal education.

The Forgotten Light / Det bortglömda Ljuset

Tomic, Sonja January 2015 (has links)
On river Danube in Belgrade, Serbia, abandoned coal power plant Power and Light and the surrounding historical industrial zone have been laying in shadows for decades, waiting to be reconnected to the city life.  This project deals with the revitalization of the old power plant giving it a new function – a school of architecture. As the use for which the building was build is so vastly different from the function of a school, one of the main points dealt with in the proposal is reconciling the existing structure and the new program. This challenge is addressed through working with the building, rather than against is - recognizing existing spatial qualities and seeing how they can be utilized in the new program.  Alongside developing the program for the building itself, the project gives a schematic proposal for future development of the industrial zone as a campus for the city’s growing university.

Jankicevic, Marko, Swedan, Menna January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine how Belgrade as a tourist destination was affected by previous political disorder during the 1990’s on the query of destination image, destination branding and destination development. The research also discussed how different actors in the public and private sectors work on the issue and how international tourists’ perspectives look like in relation to this topic. A qualitative method was applied through semi-structured and structured interviews with three actors within tourism sector, one from the public sector, and further 15 interviews with international tourists. The study's results show that Belgrade, as a tourist destination, was mainly affected by the civil war in the 1990’s. The war created a negative destination image, undefined destination branding and a non-sustainable destination development. The following led to, reduced number of incoming tourists and economic stagnation, which resulted in a lack of resources to invest in destination development. It created a negative destination image in a global aspect, and in addition to that international tourists usually associated Belgrade with insecurity and political instability. However, tourism started to increase following the new political regime approximately 10 years ago, when major efforts were made by both international and national investors. Accordingly, actors within various private and public sectors are involved in expanding tourism products, increasing marketing efforts and placing the destination on an international tourism market.

A portrait of the artist as a political dissident : the life and work of Aleksandar Petrović

Sudar, Vlastimir January 2007 (has links)
Exploration of the influence that politics may have on artists’ creativity has been undertaken by looking at selected works of Yugoslav film director Aleksandar Petrović. An attempt was made to identify thematic or stylistic motifs in his films that could be understood as reflections on the political context in which the work was made. One of the most common approaches to examine a work of one filmmaker, the auteur theory, has been modified into the theory of political auteur, to aid in identifying recurrent motifs and themes that artists introduce in their work as a reaction to the surrounding political reality. As Petrović worked in Yugoslavia during Socialism, this period was historicised in order to support the identification of ‘political motifs’ in his films. The period between 1965 and 1973 is taken as the focus of research, since it is known as the 'liberal hour', the period of great artistic and intellectual freedoms, during which Petrović directed four of his most significant films. Each of these four films is analysed in respective chapters, first by elaborating on the then current political background, and then by analysing the films’ narratives against it, and extrapolating thematic and stylistic motifs reflecting back on this background. Such exploration of art and politics has been undertaken with a view to emphasise consistent motifs in art works, not only to do with an artist’s personal interests, but also those that emerge as a result of imposing societal structures.

Six Weeks in Belgrade : A Comic Book on Participatory Architecture and Citizen Initiatives in Urban Planning / Sex Veckor i Belgrad : En seriebok om medborgarinitiativ och deltagande i arkitektur och stadsplanering

Kautsky, Matilde, Kedborn, Klara January 2014 (has links)
The project “Six weeks in Belgrade” is a comic book and an exhibition of our research on citizen participation in the planning process in Belgrade, Serbia.   The project discusses how participation can be used to improve the way we plan and build our cities: If, and how, participation can result in a more democratic planning, aiming at a more long-term sustainable and less market-driven urban development. It presents current planning conditions in Belgrade, and current actors and projects in Belgrade. It also introduces a speculative method for a participatory practice through fiction and the visual language of comics. The project maps both formal and informal initiatives in the field of urban planning. The research was done on the basis of interviews, books and articles. By mapping these initiatives we wanted to show their importance, hoping that people will get inspired and involved in the planning and making of the city, and also to strengthen already existing initiatives. The research is presented in the form of a comic narrative, presenting an alternative mode of communicating ideas in architecture and planning. Something which is of specific importance for the development of a participatory practice.
