The Making of Just Like Wild Pete

Hewitt, Jade E 13 May 2016 (has links)
In this thesis paper, I will document and analyze the process of making my graduate thesis film, Just Like Wild Pete. I will start by stating my overall thesis statement, then move into each specific area of the filmmaking process. I will translate my learning at the University of New Orleans Film and Theatre program into real life situations with this film, as well as detail my successes and struggles throughout the process. I will analyze my own work, and constantly look to how I can improve in the future. In the end, I will determine if my thesis proves true, and if I was successful in the individual aspects of filmmaking, as well as the thesis film as a whole.

[en] TWILIGHT: ALLEGORIES OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS IN PLATO AND SARAMAGO / [pt] LUSCO-FUSCO: ALEGORIAS DE LUZ E SOMBRA EM PLATÃO E SARAMAGO

LEANDRO DE BARROS GUIMARÃES 21 December 2017 (has links)
[en] Prisioners looking at projected images and calling them reality. The allegorical speech crosses the time and is a constant presence at different moments of the cultural history. This work aims to analyze the points of touch and distance between the Plato s cave and José Saramago Blindness. In this paper we analyze the possible relationship between allegories, supported by the similarities between literature, history and philosophy. I m interested in revealing how the authors appropriate the allegorical feature and nearby references to build the sense of their thoughts. The work makes use of reference proposed by Wolfgang Iser, through its pretending acts, the definitions of allegory proposed by João Adolfo Hansen and Flavius Kothe, and converses with the work of Luiz Costa Lima. In Plato, besides the allegory, it examines the question of the simulacrum proposed by Gilles Deleuze and how it is assumed the allegorical speech in a theory which aims to neutralize the words dubiety. In Saramago, analyze how the Marxist view of ideology appears in the situations narrated by the author. Finally, we show that the points set out in Blindness admits the possibility of a hermeneutic allegory of Plato s cave.

Jämlikhetsdata i Sverige : En debatt om raskategorier, essentialism och färgblindhet / Equality Data in Sweden : A Debate About Race Categories, Essentialism and Colour Bllindness

Svensson, Cornelia January 2021 (has links)
The collection of equality data, and more specifically race and ethnicity data, as a means to prevent discrimination is a common practice in many countries around the world. Through anonymous and voluntary surveys people are regularly asked to self-identify according to a number of categories such as gender, age and ethnic background. In Sweden, however, we rely on the population register as the only source for gathering statistics in order to conduct research on different social groups. From the register you can access information regarding age, gender and geographics but no data can be collected concerning categories like sexual orientation, religious beliefs, disabilities, ethnicity and race. According to some, this creates an obstacle in the fight against racism, in that it is impossible to successfully fight oppression without knowing which people it affects and how. According to others, it is ethically indefensible and even racist to collect such information about individuals. In recent years several political proposals have been made from left wing parties calling for the introduction of equality statistics in Sweden. These proposals have been met by heavy criticism and some rare appraisal. Within the academic field, researchers Tobias Hübinette and the research group Methodological Laboratories represent two different positions in the discussion about equality data. This essay aims to examine these positions as well as the general debate in relation to theories about critical whiteness studies in a Swedish context, the historic evolution of the concept of race in Sweden and the Swedish ideology of colour blindness.

Dynamic traffic management on a familiar road: Failing to detect changes in variable speed limits

Harms, Ilse M., Brookhuis, Karel A. 11 November 2020 (has links)
Variable speed limits (VSL) are used more commonly around the globe lately. Although on a macroscopic level positive effects of VSLs have been reported, the caveat is that the impact of VSLs is very sensitive to the level of driver compliance. Thus far it is unknown whether all individual drivers are actually able to notice when a speed limit changes into another speed limit; a prerequisite for purposeful speed limit compliance in the first place. To simulate regular driving conditions, twenty-four participants were familiarised with a particular route by driving the same route in a driving simulator nineteen times on five separate days. Part of the route consisted of a motorway where VSL signs were regularly displayed above every driving lane. At drive nineteen, speed limits changed from 80 km/h to 100 km/h on four out of eight consecutive signs. After passing all signs, one expects 6.25% of the participants still to be unaware that the speed limit had increased (based on chance), while the results showed most participants had failed to notice the speed limit change (58.3%). Instead, they saw what they expected to see: a speed limit of 80 km/h. If the speed change had been vice versa, in other words from 100 km/h to 80 km/h, this would immediately result in speed offences, though not deliberately at all.

Elevassistentens upplevelse kring sitt uppdrag och sin yrkesroll hos en elev med synnedsättning ur ett specialpedagogiskt perspektiv : Fenomenologisk intervjustudie / Student assistant's experience regarding their assignment and professional role with a student with visual impairment from a special educational perspective : Phenomenological interview study

Österåker, Sara January 2019 (has links)
This study aims to highlight how student assistants working with students with visual impairment perceive their assignment and professional role. The study is based on a phenomenological approach and previous research. The study results are based on the student assistant's stories about their impressions and experiences. The phenomenology firmly holds that the respondent's impressions and experiences are in the focus of the study. The study was conducted with semi-structured interviews. The respondents were contacted by the vision center or received information from the special education school authorities about the purpose and objectives of the study. The study is based on stories from four student assistants about their impressions and experiences regarding the assignment and the professional role. The results show ambiguous relationships regarding student assistant assignments and professional role in school activities. It can be seen that the student assistants mainly work with aids, visual interpretation or the teacher's tasks. It is also evident that the school management needs to develop their knowledge regarding the assignment and the professional role of the student assistant for students with visual impairment and continuing education is needed throughout the operations.

Att hävda vansinne : En undersökning av agens i grekisk myt / To claim insanity : A study about agency in Greek myth

Viklund, Lovisa January 2023 (has links)
The study examines the goddess Ate to understand the ancient greek view on the distribution of agency. Other deities closely connected to Ate are Moirai (the Fates) and Litai as the antithesis of Ate and these are examined for an overview of forces that can influence agency. For this purpose Homers Iliad and Odyssey are used along with Aeschylus Orestia to follow how the deities are depicted and how they evolve over time. The material is examined using textual analysis from the perspective that religious views affect social expressions. The analysis addresses how the deities were expressed and accounts for differences in depiction identified between the two authors along with how the actors are impacted by the damaging actions they’ve performed. The results of the analyses show that interventions by Ate are brought upon by an actor's own deficient morals and the divine is claimed in an attempt to make a bad situation manageable. The will of Moirai is claimed with a similar goal and Ate is wielded as an instrument for Moirai. Litai is used to mitigate the damage caused by Ate and their disappearance outside the Trojan cycle alters the very function of Ate.

Är Stockholm anpassad för synskadade? / How adapted is Stockholm for the visually impaired?

Celep, Helin, Remmel, Victoria January 2021 (has links)
There is a lot of talk about the necessity of creating accessibility within cities, but is it created for everyone? A multitude of different disabilities exists and this study focuses on the accessibility for the visually impaired in Stockholm. Persons with visually impairment have it more difficult to participate in the physical and social environment on the same terms as a person with full vision, and it is therefore important to create an environment where they can participate. The group of visually impaired is highly diverse with many kinds of impairments and their own needs, which makes it difficult to create only one solution. In Sweden there are laws and regulations regarding accessibility. The municipality of Stockholm uses the laws as a foundation for their guidelines and work with accessibility adjustments.  The purpose with this thesis is to give an insight to the problems in the urban environment that the visually impaired experience and how they can be solved, and to raise awareness of the deficiencies in the urban environment. To fulfil the purpose a literature study and a case study have been conducted. The case study is composed of observations of the urban environment and its adjustments in design and interviews with four persons with different kinds of visually impairments. The focus during the interviews has been on the everyday experiences and struggles created by the design and what kind of aids they use. An interview with the Traffic Administration Office (Trafikkontoret) regarding their work with accessibility, have been done to complement the case study. The results are showing that the probing cane, guide dog, an accompanying person, GPS and apps are the most commonly used aid tools. The tools are typically used in combination with each other, but are not sufficient enough to let the visually impaired independently move around in new environments. Digital aid which is not dependent on adjustments in the urban environment are being tested, however adjustments in the physical environment will still remain important. The biggest problems in the city are obstacles blocking the walking path and large open spaces. Open spaces can be improved by distinctive guide paths. Contrasts in colour and structure have been a huge aid to discover obstacles and elements such as crossovers and bus stops in the environment.
