This job searched, with the use of the calculator, provide a dynamic and investigative education through the reflection and development of conjuctures. There for, it developed activities in a classroom of a High School in a public network of the State of São Paulo and showed it s possible a new way of teaching Mathematics contents. Our analysis was divided in four areas: handling a calculator, committed errors, investigative attitudes and dynamics in the classroom. In relations to the area of handling a calculator we analyzed the difficulties and the facilities found with its use in the classroom, offering the teachers a material for study, if they want to insert new technologies in the classrooms with an investigative broach. In case of analysis area of the committed errors we searched to analyze the difficulties found in relation to power and roots contents, trying to justify the errors found, as well as offer ways to solve some of these difficulties. We also analyzed the amount of the students errors in each activity. The area of the investigative attitudes in classroom, one of the greatest important point of our work, intend to become the students into reflexive an active citizens in the learning process. The process followed the evolution of this reflexive practice from the analysis of the beginning difficulties.

Development and Validation of the Wind Energy Calculator (WEC) for use as a module in the larger Complimentary Energy Decision Support Tool (CEDST) project

Shaw, Stephanie 21 August 2012 (has links)
The Complimentary Energy Decision Support Tool (CEDST) was conceived to be a renewable energy calculator designed specifically for rural sites and agricultural operations in Ontario, though could easily assess urban sites as well, and equipped with the ability to compare the feasibility of different technologies. The Wind Energy Calculator (WEC) component of the CEDST project was the focus of this thesis and was developed since research revealed no current wind prediction tools that met CEDST needs. Verification of WEC predictions found prediction accuracy to have bounds of +/- 60% on actual turbine energy production and was equivalent to the actual generation for 21% of cases. The discrepancy could have resulted from unusual annual wind speeds, which had no significant impact on project economics when analysed. Many cases revealed that 10 kW turbines are not feasible projects under the Feed-in Tariff program and that turbines begin to become economical around 35 kW. / University of Guelph, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Poultry Industry Council (PIC), Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), and Egg Farmers of Ontario

The influence of using a scientific calculator in learning fractions : a case study of one school in Gauteng Province

Mutsvangwa, Sekesai Bridget 01 1900 (has links)
The main purpose of the research was to investigate the influence of scientific calculators on Grade 8 South African learner's understanding of fractions in learning mathematics. Quasi-experimental quantitative research methods were used. A sampling frame was selected using non probability sampling technique. A total of 15 learners in each group were randomly selected for an experimental and control group for the study. Both groups were taught fraction concepts by different teachers for the same duration and at the same time. The experimental group used a calculator as a learning aid while the control group used the traditional paper pencil method. Two tasks (post-test and assignment) were administered to both groups and a questionnaire to the experimental group. The results indicated that the scientific calculator has a positive influence in learner's conceptual understanding of fractions in mathematics as reflected in their performance. / Mathematics Education / M. Forecast Modelling of Future Events that Affect the Repayment Capacity of Mortgages / Prognosmodellering för framtida händelser som påverkar återbetalningsförmågan för bolån

Nordlund, Alexander, Ålander, Niklas January 2019 (has links)
The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority introduced new guidelines and regulations on March 1, 2019. These regulations induced Swedish banks and other creditors to consider future events as a mean to improve their ability to determine the risk of debtors. A forecast generator was created as a tool to accomplish this. The constraints of this thesis limited the forecast generator to mortgages with four parameters: loss of income, pension, foreign currency and depreciation. The forecast generator was created by combining components of Vitec Capitex's existing mortgage calculator as well as by adding new components. The new components were utilized in advancing loans and budgets in time, as well as calculating a suitable income insurance in the case of a loss of income. Furthermore, the forecast generator could approximate the pension a debtor would receive when retired. The forecast generator could calculate the economic situation of debtors after a future event took place such as a loss of income or an early or late retirement. A suitable income insurance would prevent a debtor from insolvency in the case of an income loss.

The Impact Of Using A Computer Algebra System In High School Calculus On High Performing Students' Conceptual And Procedural Understanding

Bawatneh, Zyad 01 January 2012 (has links)
Recently, there has been an increasing interest in high school mathematics education, especially in the teaching and learning of calculus. For example, studies conducted by Bressoud (2010); Judson and Nishimori (2005); Koh and Divaharan (2011); and St. Jarre (2008) all looked at how to improve the understanding of calculus students and what roles the educator must take to ensure that their students are successful. The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a significant difference between instruction using computer algebra system (CAS) compared to instruction using the graphing calculator in high school calculus on students’ conceptual and procedural understanding. This study explored and compared two different types of instruction based on the use of two different types of technology, CAS and graphing calculator. The total population for this study consisted of 333 students. There were 187 students classified as using the graphing calculator and 146 students classified as using CAS. The data for this study were collected from four Advanced Placement (AP) calculus AB courses from high schools in Florida. The study used observations and two sets of calculus tasks in order to gather data. The research questions for this study looked at comparing the grades of students categorized based on the type of instruction received during the learning of calculus. The statistical procedure that was used was a simple oneway analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results indicated that there was no significant difference between the two types of instruction on the students’ procedural knowledge, iii however, there was statistical significance on the students’ conceptual understanding in favor of the CAS students. The study introduces a framework on how to obtain information about the effects of different types of instruction on students’ understanding of calculus. The results of this study contribute in assisting teachers and future researchers on how to analyze student work in order to obtain information about the students’ conceptual and procedural understanding of first semester calculus.

The founfry engineering company establishment

Д., Zueva, T. A., Nuriddinov, A. R., Nekrasov, M. A., Ivanova, E. D. January 2024 (has links)
There is a shortage of design and technological personnel at foundries. This problem is not unique to Russia - in “gold billion” countries it has existed for more than 30 years and is successfully solved with outsourcing. The engineering company offers enterprises in the region a comprehensive solution to technological problems, including development of casting design, technology development, development of tooling, subcontracting of tooling, production of a pilot batch of castings. For independent control of casting manufacturing parameters, the purchase of laboratory equipment is provided. A significant advantage of the designed enterprise is the presence of a website with a calculator, which allows the client to determine online the cost of work depending on the complexity of the casting and the problems that arise during its manufacture (except for shrinkage defects). The site provides for monitoring the integrity of the client’s filling out forms. The level of complexity is controlled by the number of dimensions in the drawing. The solution to these problems is specified in the contract. Examples of solving complex problems in the design of castings, equipment, and implementation in production are given. Emerging problems and solutions are described. An engineering company in foundry production is opened as an individual entrepreneur due to low turnover. Tax minimization was calculated, a simplified system was adopted, income minus expenses.

New concepts for managing diabetes mellitus / Fred Keet

Keet, Fred January 2003 (has links)
Preface - Biotechnology is generally considered to be the wave of the future. To facilitate accurate and rapid development of medication and treatments, it is critical that we are able to simulate the human body. One section of this complex model would be the human energy system. Pharmaceutical companies are currently pouring vast amounts of capital into research regarding general simulation of cellular structures, protein structures and bodily processes. Their aim is to develop treatments and medication for major diseases. Some of these diseases are epidemics like cancer, cardiovascular diseases, stress, obesity, etc. One of the most important causes of these diseases is poor blood glucose control. Current management methods for insulin dependent diabetes are limited to trial and error systems: clearly ineffective and prone to errors. It is critical that better management systems be developed, to ease the diabetic epidemic. The blood glucose control system is one of the major systems in the body, as we are in constant need of energy to facilitate the optimum functioning of the human body. This study makes use of a developed simulation model for the human energy system to ease the management of Diabetes mellitus, which is a malfunction of the human energy system. This dissertation is presented in two parts: The first part discusses the human energy simulation model, and the verification thereof, while the second presents possible applications of this model to ease the management of Diabetes. The human energy system simulation model - This section discusses the development and verification of the model. It also touches on the causes, and current methods, of managing diabetes, as well as the functioning of the human energy system. The human energy model is approached with the conservation of energy in mind. A top down model is developed, using data from independent studies to verify the model. Application of human energy simulation model - The human energy simulation model is of little use if the intended audience cannot use it: people suffering from malfunctioning energy systems. These include people having trouble with obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, etc. To facilitate this, we need to provide a variety of products useable by this group of people. We propose a variety of ways in which the model can be used: Cellular phone applications, Personal digital assistants (PDAs) applications, as well as computer software. By making use of current technology, we generate a basic proof-of-concept application to demonstrate the intended functionality. / MIng (Mechanical Engineering) North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2004

Bergman, Ida, Bevemyr, Lisa, Kadir, Avin, Lorentzen, Beatrice January 2020 (has links)
Uppsala's student life largely consists of the student nations. The student nations are required to count the number of guests due to fire safety and to meet the regulations from the Public Health Agency of Sweden concerning the current pandemic. This report presents how a mobile application that shows if the student nations are calm, active, crowded, or full was created. The students in Uppsala can use the application to aid the decision of where they want to go, and the nations can use it to count the number of guests. By using this application, the nations are encouraged to keep track of the number of guests continuously and therefore contribute to a more safe environment in the student life of Uppsala. The vision for the application is to be reliable, user friendly, and have a quick response time. This was evaluated through several user experience metrics. During the performed user tests it came to our attention that the application was overall easy to use, had good functionality and that the user interface was minimalistic as well as appealing. However, some of the initial specifications of requirements were not fulfilled, and it appeared that some aspects of the application called for improvements to fulfill these requirements.
