For that, the food items have been identified, classified and quantified by numeric frequency and occurrence. Were also obtained some morphometric data of both S. brasiliensis larvae and prey captured by them. For the larvae were assessed standard length and size of the mouth, while the prey has been evaluated the maximum height of the body. The material analyzed was collected in the Ilha Grande National Park region in a lotic remaining stretch of the Paraná River, in 18 stations distributed in the main channel, its tributaries and oxbow lakes. The diet of the larvae was predominantly composed of fish larvae, especially of Characiformes and Siluriformes. Cannibalism cases were reported demonstrating that this is a characteristic behavior of the species, and is independent on the availability of other food items. Dorado's larvae show a negative allometric relationship between the proportion size of the upper jaw relative to the standard length, it means, those variables do not grow proportionally throughout the growth. It was observed that there is no selectivity when taking into consideration the height of consumed prey, but their sizes remained within the maximum intake limit, and neither the heights of prey or even the height of the mouth were a factor limiting of intake.

Carlos Alexandre Granghelli 29 July 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the best energy level for layer hens submitted or not to the second beak trimming, on performance, egg quality and economic viability aspects. Therefore, 640 layers were distributed in a completely randomized design, in a factorial 5x2 (energy level x number of beak trimming) with eight replicates and eight birds per experimental unit. Energy levels studied were: 2600; 2700; 2800; 2900; 3000 Kcal EM / kg feed. Regarding the beak trimming, it was evaluated the effect of the second beak trimming performed at 70 days age, or not, and their interactions with the proposed nutrient levels. The trial was conducted from the 20th to 48th week of birds age, totaling 7 cycles of 28 days each. The data of productive performance (egg production, feed intake, egg mass, feed conversion per dozen and feed conversion by egg mass), egg quality (weight, albumen height, yolk color, Haugh unit, strength and shell thickness were evaluated at the end of each 28-day cycle. It was observed interactions between the energy levels and beak trimming to egg production, albumen height, Haugh unit, and shell thickness. Beak trimming significantly affected consumption, conversion per dozen and egg mass, egg weight, yolk color and shell thickness. The frequency of cannibalism was not influenced by energy levels or beak trimming. Regarding the economic analysis both energy levels and beak trimming had a significant effect on the total cost of production, gross margin and between total cost of the total revenue. Results showed that the lowest energy level can be used and it was found that there is need to carry out the second beak trimming by the economic point of view

Variabilité trophique chez la truite marbrée (Salmo marmoratus) : déterminismes ontogénétiques et environnementaux / Trophic ecology and life history of an endangered stream-dwelling salmoid

Musseau, Camille 18 December 2015 (has links)
Variability within natural populations plays a major role in maintaining functional diversity in communities and ecosystems. The marble trout (Salmo marmoratus) is a species of great conservation concern given its restricted geographical area. Few populations persist in the Adriatic basin, threatened by the impacts of global change (increase of the frequency and intensity of flood events) and by biological invasions. In this thesis, we aimed to quantify trophic variability of this species both at the population and individual levels and to understand the underlying mechanisms. The diet of 1523 marble trout from the seven remnant populations persisting in the Soca River basin (Slovenia) were sampled between 2011 and 2013 and were analyzed with stable isotopes (d15N and d13C). Our results show strong variability through ontogeny within as well as between individuals. This intraspecific variation was observed at the population level and was determined by both environmental variables and size-structured demography effects on fish physiology and ecological opportunities. Results indicate a high rate of opportunistic cannibalism (from 6 to 32 % in populations) promoted by prey densities. This permanent behavior may lead to modification of the populations' size structures and dynamics. Studying trophic interactions between the marble trout and an invasive salmonid species (rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss), we showed that trophic niches of the native trout shifted because of interspecific competition. However, our results suggest that the piscivorous behavior of the marble trout, rare for stream-dwelling salmonids, would be a strong advantage for biotic resistance against biological invaders. This thesis demonstrates the high trophic plasticity, both at the individual and population levels, in this freshwater predator that could be an adaptative advantage in a global change context.

Devouring patriarchy: cultural cannibalism and pleasure politics in the Brazilian PopPorn Festival

Ouedraogo, Ines 09 February 2021 (has links)
The seventh PopPorn Festival (2017), themed Our Body, Our Rules, revolved around sexual agency and exploration, principles that each film, workshop, and debate addressed in its own way. Inscribed in a transnational feminist and queer-porn film culture, the PopPorn Festival decimated heteropatriarchal norms while creating a space to learn, inspire, and create a variety of sexual perspectives. Epitomizing the concept of cultural cannibalism, these sexual ideas and practices traveled from their country of production to the Brazilian film festival, which absorbed them, thus enriching its own culture. Each film analyzed in this dissertation is itself anthropornophagous, the neologism I devised to express the metaphorical devouring a patriarchal enemy through pornography. These films offer unique avenues of reflection on the place of sexual pleasure and its explicit representation in Western culture, on pornography as a vessel to oppose the heteropatriarchal system, and on the extent to which feminist and queer pornographies can constitute a source of inspiration for shame-free sexual expression. The four films analyzed in this dissertation resist patriarchal oppression on different grounds and react to a state of affairs that is dissatisfying. Not only do they question norms, they also create new ways to be sexually inspired.

Characterization of Molecular and Cellular Bases of Entosis.

Voisin, Laurent 01 December 2016 (has links)
My research reveals a new signaling pathway which is involved in the cellular internalization. This signaling pathway requires ATP release and purinergic receptor activation at the level of cannibal cells and will lead to the elimination of internalized cell. We also defined during this work the future of the cannibal cell and specify during experiments in vivo the tumor suppressor activity of cellular cannibalism. We also observed this process in tumor biopsies obtained from patients with breast cancer who received neoadjuvant treatment and have revealed that its detection could predict the efficacy of neoadjuvant treatment. Theses results reveal molecular bases of cellular cannibalism and indicate the role of cellular cannibalism during tumor development.

Cannibalism Is Not Inherently Immoral : A Philosophical Study of Morality and Cannibalism

Blomberg, Rebecca January 2022 (has links)
This essay argues that cannibalism is not inherently immoral. To demonstrate this, I have analyzed the ethics of cannibalism through the perspective of consent, rights, autonomy, and consumption of flesh. I have defined the concepts of cannibalism and morality. The case of the German Cannibal Armin Meiwes is used throughout the essay as it gives factual examples of a case where cannibalism is in accordance to consent. I have analyzed cannibalism as a taboo, in the ways this taboo has formed and how we differentiate cannibalism in humans and nonhumans. Following this I have demonstrated how the relations surrounding human rights, the law's interpretation of consent and autonomy can alter its morality. With discussing consumption of flesh, whether it be from an animal or a human being, followed by how our view on treating nonanimals as a means to an end, I illustrate a comparison to cannibalism in human beings. By exploring the relationship of cannibalism with morality through these theories I conclude that cannibalism in fact cannot be inherently immoral.

Produktlivscykeln på en digital marknad / Product life cycle applied on a digital market

Setterberg, Elliot, Thor, Oliver January 2023 (has links)
To have a successful product that continues to grow in today's market is complex due to the amount of marketing strategies that are available to the operating firm, especially when they operate on a global market. The purpose of this research study is to find out how digital products are marketed in different stages of the product lifecycle with the focus on the videogame industry. Therefore, will this study examine if the strategies are applicable in a more global and digital environment. Thus, will this study attempt to fill the literature gap that exists in this field. The empirical data in this study are gathered through interviews with people who have experience or worked in the videogame industry. This includes business coaches and marketing managers who operate in the videogame industry. The findings indicate that brand is one of the most important factors for success in this market. But the interplay between the different strategies were noticeable and could not be overlooked. The interviews have given a new insight on how a game could be priced. Therefore, would a direction for further research be interesting to focus on the pricing of digital products.

Cannibalism: A Failure to Be Satisfied.

Pruett, Richard Brandon 09 May 2009 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis supports the Master of Fine Arts exhibition at the Tipton Gallery, East Tennessee State University, from March 23rd through April 3rd, 2009. To comment on the title of my thesis, it describes an invented process created to re-contextualize failed paintings into works that critically comment on the discipline of painting itself. The paper describes and analyzes the conceptual moves created by a refusal to be satisfied with predictable outcomes in my work. At the end of this tumultuous quest to explore what painting is to me, the most rewarding works were a product of a reconfigured failure. This paper also briefly discusses a period in the history of painting that is particularly relevant to my work, influential artists that I have continually returned in admiration, and collage techniques and materials used to create my work. An explanation of my current body of work is given at the end.
