[en] Many people have searched the internet for a way to make money. Among those who try, there are those who manage to make a living selling digital services and products and building careers dedicated to such an initiative: they are called digital entrepreneurs. The professional trajectories of these entrepreneurs are still poorly understood, which motivated the completion of this dissertation, which sought to understand the construction of a digital entrepreneur career. Therefore, Life Design theory was used as the main conceptual lens to unveil these careers. To achieve the proposed objective, 13 digital entrepreneurs were interviewed. The results obtained indicate that those who call themselves digital entrepreneurs are dedicated, above all, to digital marketing and build their careers confirming the rhetoric that digital entrepreneurship is a viable path to enrichment, to achieve flexibility in time, space and area of performance, as long as one works consistently, constantly learning and networking. Among the main motivations to be a digital entrepreneur are dissatisfaction with previous work; ambition to earn more money; desire to undertake with low investment and risk and monetizing a hobby. The main challenges are lack of support from family and friends; mental and physical health concerns; difficulties with the use of technology; fear of believing empty promises and concerns about hate attacks on the internet. With regard to the objective aspects of career building, four moments appeared as important: searching google for ways to earn money on the internet; consume content about digital marketing; make the first online sale and participate in congresses or events in the sector. It was found that, by overcoming difficulties and achieving goals, digital entrepreneurs
legitimize their career choices.

Passion, vision and fun at work : Career choice that mitigates climate change.Alander, Emma January 2024 (has links)
The climate issue is one of the biggest global challenges of our time and a question that study- and career counsellors also need to address. Green career choice is a new phenomenon where there is a great lack of knowledge. We know that there are people who does career choices based on the climate issue but the knowledge is limited on how such a career choice is motivated. The thesis investigates environmentally sustainable career choices in green tech through a qualitative interview study of five employees at an e-mobility company in East Africa. The result is analyzed based on Mark Savickas Career Construction Theory which explains career choice as part of identity construction. The result is discussed in relation to previous research on identity and sustainable choice, green career, and green guidance. An overarching answer to the question of why the respondents chose to work with environmental sustainability is that they are career concerned co-creators of their careers. More specifically the career choice is derived from personal values being reflected in the company, an interest in green tech, a will to make an impact on climate change based on knowledge and experience and the perception that a career in green tech is a good career.

The expectations and aspirations of a late-career professional womanAtkinson, Carol, Ford, Jackie M., Harding, Nancy H., Jones, F. 2015 June 1916 (has links)
Yes / This article presents a powerful account of one late-career woman's lived experiences. Little is known about women who continue professional careers into their 50s and beyond. Here insights are offered into her aspirations and expectations, as she reflects upon a career fragmented by gendered caring responsibilities and the implications of ageism and sexism together with health and body for her late-career phase. The narrative enhances understanding of the intersection of age and gender in a context where masculine career norms dominate. It also offers a reflection upon the implications of these themes for late-career women and their employing organizations more generally.

The Perceived Impact of the Texas Career Ladder Plan upon the Motivational Levels of TeachersAllen, Claudis 12 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was to determine the perceived impact of the Texas Career Ladder Plan upon the motivational levels of teachers. The purposes were to determine: the impact of the Texas Career Ladder Plan as an incentive for improved job performance; the strengths and weaknesses of the current Texas Career Ladder Plan; the types of incentives that teachers believe would motivate them to perform better; and the suggestions that teachers have to modify the current Texas Career Ladder Plan. An opinionnaire was developed to obtain data pertinent to the perceived impact of the Texas Career Ladder Plan in providing incentives for improved job performance. A random sample of 500 elementary school teachers and 500 secondary school teachers was selected from the personnel rosters of the participating schools. Data from 92 percent of the subjects sampled was achieved. A descriptive analysis was used to interpret data collected in this study. The findings indicated that the Texas Career Ladder Plan has had no impact or a perceived negative impact upon the motivational levels of teachers as indicated by 14 of the opinionnaire items surveyed. There was a perceived positive impact upon the motivational levels of teachers as indicated by eight of the opinionnaire items surveyed. The most frequent suggestion as an incentive to motivate teachers was monetary and the most frequent suggestion to improve the Texas Career Ladder Plan was to improve the teacher appraisal system. It is suggested that further research be done to determine the perceived impact of the Texas Career Ladder Plan upon the motivational levels of all teachers in the state of Texas and the characteristics of the teachers that were perceived to be positively impacted.

The Influence of Family and Cultural Values on the Career Development of Asian AmericansSandhu, Gurminder 08 1900 (has links)
Factors influencing the career development of Asian Americans have included family influences, including parental expectations and parent-young adult relationship, and adherence to Asian cultural values. Variables such as interests and values have been shown to be important factors in the career-related decisions of western, European American culture individuals, although interests have been found to be less important for Asian Americans. Research suggests that parental expectations and adherence to traditional Asian values have more influence on career development among this population. Sandhu found in 2011 that parental expectations are highly linked with career choice of a specific Asian subgroup. The current study examined the relationship between parental expectations, acculturation, career values, adherence to Asian cultural values, the parent-young adult relationship, and career choice in the Asian American population. The values gap between the parents’ and young adults’ cultural values as well as the gap’s effects on the parent-child relationship were assessed. A sample of 173 self-identified Asian Americans aged 18 to 25 were recruited from across the US to complete an Internet survey consisting of demographic questions, career choice questions, a measure of acculturation, an assessment of career-related values, an assessment of adherence to Asian cultural values, and an assessment of the parent-young adult relationship. Results from hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that the prestige of parents’ career expectations was a significant predictor of the prestige of young adults’ expected career choices. Although other family and process variables were not found to be significant predictors of young adults’ career choices, interesting correlations were noted among many of these variables.
