Duarte, Ulisses Corrêa January 2016 (has links)
This multi-sited ethnography analyzes three distinct carnival poles, through the exchanges circuits established among them. The main purpose of the thesis is to comprehend how the different cultural configurations in carnivals of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro, the Pampas region (in three cities, Uruguaiana in southern Brazil, Paso de Los Libres in Argentina and Artigas in Uruguay) and a Samba School in the Notting Hill Carnival (London/UK) communicate and involve themselves in intercultural relations, globalism and hybridism between carnivals. The relations among the carnivals allow the dissemination of their competitive productions, the circulation of persons and objects that cross borders, based on the dimension of translocality. These carnivals are intertwined and dialogue with the Rio carnival in exchanging and negotiating circuits, promoting encounters, connections, intense professionals circulation, material flows, knowledge and expertise between among its local contexts.

Entre confetes e serpentinas : é a ciência pedindo passagem

Soares, Alessandro Cury January 2016 (has links)
This research develops a thematic analysis on science to the parades of the samba schools and its consequences. To do so, engender the progress of research in five distinct phases that run our movement in the field of research and analysis so that we can tell about the science that is in these parades. In the first article, we attempted to analyze the legitimacy, signaling how science and the parade have been interwoven, creating categories of topics identified as "scientific issues" with the parades of Rio's samba schools, with the intention of observing how these were pedagogizados/entangled to handle the event and its understanding by the actors / subjects involved. The second movement realizes signal the importance of the Marques de Sapucai, which is taken as a document (in foucaultina perspective), talking, seeing, establishing the times, which educates and creates ways to parade, to tell the themes on the science. The third article discusses the main aspects that make up the parade of a samba school, having as object the emblematic Tijuca States parade in the 2004 carnival, with the theme "The dream of creation and the creation of the dream: the art of science at the time of the impossible", analyzing the different stages of preparation of the show, highlighting their languages and observing the potential of each of them, to discuss issues related to Science. The fourth article highlights the speech of netizens that accompany the parades of the samba schools, workers' huts of carioca special group and members of academia (researchers) who will tell how legitimate and powerful is (or not) this environment for we can provide the science that is present. É na lei e na marra : a organização do carnaval do Recife (1955 -1964)

At that time, organizing the reign of Momo became a political priority, for the administrators considered necessary to create public policies capable of solving a question that was a time of prominence in the newspapers of the city: to save the Carnival of Recife from the "decay". The 1950s is a milestone for historiography that analyzes the Carnival of Recife. Soon after the end of the celebrations of the 1955, the Municipality of the city, through the bill authored by the Alderman Antonio Batista de Sousa, tries to take to himself the organization of the party. According to some periodicals, the measure appears in the attempt to "save the reign of Momo", that according to the same, was "dying to the few". This way, in 1955, the mayor Djair Brindeiro sanctioned the law No. 3.346, of June 7, officializing the Carnival of the city, that happened to be organized by the Department of Documentation and Culture (DDC). This law had as its objective the promotion of tradition-oriented Carnival, thus preserving the clubs of frevo, maracatus and caboclinhos clubs. Among the measures proposed by law, financial assistance was provided to the blocks, samba schools and other Carnival associations that contributed to the animation and consolidation of the Recife Carnival. In this research we analyze the political and social disputes and the prohibitions to the practices considered subversive, that were common in the days of Momo. However, we also emphasize the resistance of the popular that equated to any kind of rule or prohibition.

Maciel, Sirlene Sales. January 2018 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The present study aims to analyze the allegory and the process of turning human actions into a 'carnival' in the epic drama O santeiro do Mangue: a luxurious mystery novel structured as an opera (2012) with multiple voices, that by means of contradictions, jumps and fragments, subverts the Christian didactic-pedagogical practices that constitute the values of Brazilian society since catechism. The author intends to create a popular theater where carnival and allegory coexist in duplicity, or dialectically in the work as instruments of authorial thoughts revelations and if on the one hand we have the atmosphere of partying and ambivalent laughter bringing carnival scenes, on the other hand we face the melancholic revelation that brings the echoes of modernity to the work. Both are discursive strategies that insert the text into the context of its production. Messianic believes, so criticized by Oswald de Andrade in his thesis 'A crise da filosofia Messiânica' (The Crisis of Messianic Philosophy), are also present in the work, as in a dialectical and contradictory way the subalterns voices hope for salvation, does not come from heaven but from concrete world, the political side. Through the search of the utopian 'Matriarcado de Pindorama' anthropophagy swallows the old society in aesthetic and political terms. Thus, one could think there is no rupture with all messianic believes, but only the substitution of one for another, or as in the author's thesis: messianic religion for ... Rememories/imagetexts

Symons, Suellen, University of Western Sydney, Faculty of Performance, Fine Arts and Design, School of Design January 1997 (has links)
This research paper places the three Research Projects 2 DIVINE, CARNIVAL, and HER STORIES: THE WENTWORTH WOMEN against the background of memory, remaking history, play, as well as hermeneutics. It is argued that the understanding of a work of art involves participation in its meaning by the audience which is not so much a mere receiver of information as a catalyst of the work's content. This Research Paper also attempts to place the three Research Projects, which when combined are entitled REMEMORIES/IMAGETEXTS, into a feminist remaking of history (in Barbara Kruger's sense), realigning the male-oriented histories with a female presence. Questioning the 'historical document' as the authority on history, and giving alternative versions of the life of Jeanne d'Arc and the life of Sarah Cox Wentworth are some of the concerns in the Research Projects. How these three Research Projects came to be linked is that each was originally exhibited during 1995 for the Twentieth Anniversary of International Women's Year, in venues from Penrith to Paddington. Their making spans many years, and in essence comes down to a fascination with the portrayal of women throughout history. That our images of women originally derived from how women were portrayed in carnival is one of the emerging themes, and that there are a number of different memories of specific events, depending on who is remembering them, and what their (hidden) agenda entails. In moving between time zones, questioning the portrayal of 'woman as sign', and subverting the traditional sign of woman, the artist puts forward the argument that women are the producers of signs and thus not merely objects as represented by signs / Master of Arts (Hons)(Visual Arts)

To develop an understanding of the carnival of Youtube videos, researcher observed the contents, click rates, and discussions of users. The findings of this research are that the experienced amateurs have long-term accumulations of video making which combine entertaining and learning. Their communication pleasures come from the behavior of creation, and the interaction with online fans and offline friends. As the main strategy of Bakhtin¡¦ carnival theory, parody also becomes a welcomed idea of Youtube videos. But the experienced amateurs emphasized that there lays more serious core ideas in the videos, and those are the main issues should be known.
