A investigação do contexto profissional de tratamento de conteúdo em bibliotecas universitárias é necessária para coleta de dados e observação dos processos dos profissionais catalogadores de assunto com vistas à futura elaboração de metodologia para catalogação de assunto de documentos. Propõe-se a análise dos processos de análise de assunto na catalogação de documentos e a visão dos participantes sobre os significados dos resultados obtidos em sua prática cotidiana a partir de pesquisa etnográfica e uso da técnica de Protocolo Verbal Individual e entrevistas em contexto de diferentes Bibliotecas Universitárias no domínio de Ciência da Computação. The research of professional context of content treatment in university libraries is required for data collection and observation of the processes of professional subject catalogers with a view to further development of methodology for the subject cataloging of documents. It proposes the analysis of the procedures of subject analysis for examining on documents cataloging and the views of participants about the meanings of the results obtained in their daily practice from ethnographic research and use of the technique of Individual Verbal Protocol and interviews in the context of various university libraries in the field of Computer Science. It has as main objective to contribute to improving studies of the practice of subject analysis on cataloging in the context of university libraries in order to optimize the results of information retrieval in catalogs. O uso de algumas dessas tecnologias para a publicação e o relacionamento de dados levou ao surgimento do conceito de Linked Data, e o anseio por sua aplicação na Ciência da Informação deu origem a projetos para a publicação de dados de autoridade como Linked Data. No entanto, observa-se que esses projetos, ainda em estágios iniciais ou experimentais, carecem de um quadro teórico construído na Ciência da Informação que possa orientar quanto às políticas, aos procedimentos e às tecnologias empregadas na publicação desses dados. Assim, partindo do problema “como publicar dados de autoridade como Linked Data?” são delineados o objetivo geral – propor, a partir do conceito das funções dos dados de autoridade nos catálogos e de seus benefícios nos ambientes de Linked Data, um modelo de publicação de dados de autoridade como Linked Data compreendendo políticas, procedimentos e tecnologias – a tese e a hipótese desta pesquisa, de caráter bibliográfico, documental e metodológico. Para o alcance desse objetivo, primeiramente é conduzida uma revisão de literatura acerca do controle de autoridade e do desenvolvimento dos dados de autoridade nos catálogos em livros, em fichas e digitais, com destaque para os modelos conceituais FRAD e FRSAD que sintetizam as funções desempenhadas pelos dados de autoridade. Em seguida, são apresentados o conceito de Linked Data e as principais tecnologias da Web Semântica relacionadas a ele: URIs, RDF, RDFS e OWL, apresentação essa que serve de base para a descrição de três vocabulários que podem ser utilizados na publicação de dados de autoridade (SKOS, MADS/RDF e RDA Element Sets), de iniciativas para a publicação desses dados (LC Linked Data Service, datos.bne.es, data.bnf.fr, VIAF e AGROVOC) e dos potenciais benefícios da publicação dos dados de autoridade como Linked Data. A partir dos resultados dessa revisão de literatura, é proposto o modelo para a publicação de dados de autoridade como Linked Data, compreendendo as etapas de planejamento; modelagem e mapeamento; tratamento, relacionamento e conversão; publicação; e feedback e retroalimentação. Após a descrição de cada etapa do modelo, com suas políticas, procedimentos e tecnologias, são apresentadas considerações finais sobre os resultados alcançados e sobre o modelo proposto. / One of the issues that Information Science is concerned with is the access to information resources, therefore the studies in this area include the library catalogs, which comprise bibliographic data (representations of information resources) and authority data (representations of the entities related to the information resources, such as persons, corporate body and concepts). The proposal of a Semantic Web in which data are processed not just by their syntax but also by their semantics has led to the development of a set of technologies for publishing and linking data on the Web, as well as technologies for data querying and for the computerized reasoning. The use of a subset of these technologies for publishing and linking data has led to the Linked Data concept. The experiments with these technologies in Information Science have given rise to projects for publishing authority data as Linked Data. However, we observed that these projects, still in initial or experimental stages, are not based on a theoretical framework developed in Information Science that can guide them regarding to the policies, to the procedures and to the technologies used in the publication of these data. Thus, starting from the question “how to publish authority data as Linked Data?” we define the main goal – conceptualize the functions of authority data in the catalogs and their benefits in Linked Data environments in order to propose a model for authority data publishing, as well as highlighting its policies, procedures and technologies – the thesis and the hypothesis of this research. To achieve this goal, first we made a literature review about authority control and the development of authority data in books, cards and digital catalogs, remarking the FRAD and FRSAD conceptual models which synthesize the functions of authority data. Then, we present the Linked Data concept and the main Semantic Web technologies related to it: URIs, RDF, RDFS and OWL; starting from this introduction, we describe three vocabularies that can be used to publishing authority data (SKOS, MADS/RDF and RDA Element Sets), some initiatives (Library of Congress Linked Data Service, datos.bne.es, data.bnf.fr, VIAF and AGROVOC) and the advantages of authority data published as Linked Data. Based on the results of this literature review, we propose a model for publishing authority data as Linked Data, The model comprases the following stages: planning; modeling and mapping; processing, linking and conversion; publishing; and feedback. After describing each of these stages, with its policies, procedures and technologies, we present the conclusions about the results and about the proposed model.

A presente dissertação trata de um estudo sobre produção de livros sob demanda em dois momentos distintos da indústria gráfica. Apresentamos uma abordagem histórica do percurso do livro, segundo seus atributos materiais e tecnológicos, que marcaram a transformação de seu caráter fabril de micro e pequena escalas à produção em massa. Ao analisar referências manufatureiras de tiragem limitada do livro no âmbito da impressão tipográfica e digital, observamos o papel que o design é capaz de exercer, representando uma conexão entre esses dois registros técnicos intrinsecamente diferentes. Através da utilização de um modelo descritivo de obras sob o ponto de vista do design gráfico, buscamos pontos de convergência e divergência passíveis de auxiliar na compreensão do atual contexto de transição por que passa o mercado editorial. / The concerned dissertation is based on a study about on-demand book production in two distinct periods of the Graphic Industry. By its material and technological attributes, we present a historical approach on the route of the book which marked the transformation of its manufacturing character from micro and short scale to mass production. By analyzing manufacturer references on limited book print runs in the typographical and digital printing field, we observe the role that design is capable of playing by representing a connection between these two intrinsically different technical registers. Amongst the use of a bookwork descriptive model in the point of view of graphic design, we search for converging and diverging nodes liable to assist the comprehension of the current transition context that passes through the editorial market.

Tanto a Catedral como ambos os museus apresentam vários problemas relacionados à identificação de seu acervo, sendo a grande maioria das obras com procedência desconhecida. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi o de catalogar o acervo da Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Campinas, de 1840 à 1923, abrangendo imagens sacras, pinturas, detalhes arquitetônicos e a obra de talha. Foi possível rastrear e catalogar todo o acervo através de documentos primários e comparações iconográficas. Percebeu-se que, quanto à catalogação de imagens, a correta amplitude da pesquisa deveria partir de 1774 à 1923, uma vez que enquanto a Matriz Nova era construída, formava-se o acervo de imagens na Matriz Velha, mas com a consciência exata de que o acervo seria passado à nova matriz após sua inauguração. Foi possível também descobrir a autoria e o histórico das pinturas originais presentes na inauguração do templo em 1883, bem como descobrir o histórico e a autoria dos evangelistas e apóstolos da fachada, informações inéditas até o momento. Foram desvendadas a origem das estátuas externas do templo e a pesquisa em fontes primárias inéditas possibilitou encontrar equívocos na descrição do atual catálogo do acervo. A pesquisa da obra de talha, encontrou informações que fazem possível hoje, atribuir à quatro entalhadores o conjunto total da talha: Vitoriano dos Anjos, Bernardino de Sena, Raffaelo de Rosa e Marino Del Favero, os dois últimos italianos. Também foi possível atribuir obras a cada um, cuja autoria, até o momento, era desconhecida. Em sua abrangência, a pesquisa possibilitou desvendar o histórico das fachadas do templo e elucidar diversos acontecimentos como os acidentes durante o período de construção, os arquitetos participantes bem como suas contribuições ao templo, sistemas construtivos e materiais utilizados. Dentro ainda da arquitetura, também descobriu-se todos os elementos modificados e construídos na reforma de 1923. Além do catálogo das obras e da arquitetura, como complemento, foi criado um dicionário de todos os artistas que participaram do acervo, com informações biográficas. Esta catalogação deve servir então à duas propostas, como fonte de pesquisa acadêmica e como utilidade prática no uso diário do acervo. Como conclusão, percebe-se que a história da construção do templo e do acervo é muito mais rica, cheia de detalhes e acontecimentos do que até então se conhecia, fazendo desta pesquisa uma referencia para futuros trabalhos relacionados ao seu acervo e sua história / Abstract: The Catedral Metropolitana de Campinas is a religious temple that houses the Museu Arquediocesano de Campinas and the Museu da Irmandade do Santíssimo Sacramento. Both museums and the Cathedral, present several problems regarding the correct identification of its art collection, with most of the art work of unknown origin. The objective of this research was to catalog the collection of the Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Campinas from 1840 to 1923. The collection includes sacred images, paintings, architectural details and carving works. This research made possible to trace and catalog the entire collection of the period thru analysis of primary documents and iconographic comparison. Regarding the image collection, the real amplitude of the research should comprehend the period from 1774 to 1923. As the New Church was being built, the collection of images was being formed at the Old Church, but with the certain that the collection would be transferred to the new site after its inauguration. It was also possible to discover the authorship and the history of the original paintings present at the inauguration of the temple in 1883, as well as the authorship and history of the Evangelists and Apostles statues at the façade. The origin of the external statues of the temple was unveiled and the research on unprecedented primary sources made possible to find misconceptions at the description of the current catalog of the collection. The research of the carving works revealed information that contributed to attribute four woodworkers to the whole carving work at the church: Vitoriano dos Anjos, Bernardino de Sena, Raffaelo de Rosa and Marino Del Favero, the last two Italians. It was also possible to attribute to each one, other artworks, which the authorship was unknown until now. Due to the wide scope of the research, it was possible to unveil the history of the façade construction and to elucidate many of the related events such as the accidents, the architects and their contribution on the project and construction of the temple as well as constructive systems and used materials. Still in the architecture scope, it was disclosed all the modified and built elements at the renovation in 1923. Aside the catalog of the collection, as a complement, it was created a dictionary of all the participating artists of the collection with bio info. The cataloging of the collection intend to attend two distinct proposes, as an academic resource and as a daily reference for the museums. In order to come to a conclusion, one can easily realize that the history of the construction of the temple and the gathering of its collection is far richer than could be imagined making this research a starting point and a solid anchor for future researches / Mestrado / Historia da Arte / Mestra em História

This master thesis examines the cataloguing practices of two art libraries in Sweden in relation to contemporary art. The aim of this study is to show how classification systems and other forms of controlled vocabulary correspond to contemporary art and reveal the factors that influence the everyday practice of cataloguing. The qualitative methods of semi-structured interviews and an analysis of bibliographic records have been used for the purposes of this study. The study is based on domain analysis as conceived by Hjørland and Albrechtsen and some concepts and principles of Knowledge Organisation in the field of Library and Information Science. A total of three interviews of cataloguers has proved that perceptions concerning classification and subject indexing differ among cataloguers and cataloguing practices depend on local policies concerning acquisition, shelving and user perspectives, but also each library’s resources and the institutional context (academic vs museum). Through the analysis of eleven bibliographic records, no consistent pattern has been detected, in relation to indexing and classification. The libraries do not use special systems for subject analysis. The classifications provided by universal systems have been considered insufficient to express all the concepts found in documents. The use of subject headings is, therefore, important and complements the process of subject analysis. The classification systems and subject headings lists analysed include the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), the Swedish Sveriges Allmänna Biblioteksförenings Klassifikationssystem (SAB) and the Svenska ämnesord (SAO). This is a two-year master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies. / Denna masteruppsats handlar om katalogiseringspraktiker på två konstbibliotek, nämligen Umeå universitetsbibliotek och Konstbiblioteket, i relation till samtida konst. Syftet med denna studie är att visa hur samtida konst återspeglas i klassifikationssystem och andra former av kontrollerad vokabulär och ta reda på vilka faktorer påverkar katalogiseringsarbete. Metoden som har använts i studien består av halvstrukturerade intervjuer med katalogisatörer och en analys av bibliografiska poster. Studien baseras på domänanalys som har utarbetats av Hjørland och Albrechtsen samt vissa begrepp och principer från Kunskapsorganisation inom ramen för Biblioteks- och Informationsvetenskap. Analysen av tre intervjuer visade på att uppfattningar om klassifikation och ämnesordsindexering skiljer sig åt bland katalogisatörer och att katalogiseringspraktiker beror på varje biblioteks riktlinjer med avseende på förvärv, hylluppställning, användarperspektiv, bibliotekets resurser samt institutionell kontext (akademisk vs museal). Elva bibliografiska poster har analyserats och genom analysen har inga mönster i relation till ämnesordsindexering och klassificering identifierats. De undersökta bibliotek använder inte något specialsystem för klassifikation eller ämnesordsindexering. Klassifikationskoder från universella system ansågs otillräckliga för att uttrycka alla begrepp i dokumenten. Ämnesordsindexering är därför viktig och anses vara mer effektiv för ämnesanalys. Klassifikationsssystem och ämnesordlistor som har analyserats är Dewey Decimal Klassifikation (DDK), Sveriges Allmänna Biblioteksförenings Klassifikationssystem (SAB) och Svenska ämnesord (SAO). A catalogação das peças é acompanhada de informações técnicas, descritivas, fotográficas, bibliográficas e de dados de peças similares conservadas em outros acervos. Em paralelo, o trabalho está articulado ao panorama de conceitos e debates sobre a técnica da maiólica e a classificação estilística de cada centro de produção italiano / Abstract: This research combines Alexandre Imbert¿s (1865-1943) majolica collection documentation, preserved in the "Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand" since 1952. The purpose of the survey and the organization of the technical data of each piece has contributed to register a database in the form of a catalog. The cataloging of the parts is accompanied by technical, descriptive, photographic, bibliographic data and similar parts preserved in other collections. Moreover, the approach talks about the favorable aspects for the formation of the "Museu de Arte" and the acquisition of Imbert¿s collection which totalized 525 pieces in 1911, its dispersion in the early twentieth century and the appreciation of this type of collection in the international market. "eLibrary" is a book management software application that runs on Microsoft Windows platforms. The software incorporates a Windows Explorer like interface and XML/XSL to display book details. The purpose of this project is to build a full-featured, commerical-quality software package to help people manage their books (either printed or electronic). The goal is for eLibrary to be a complete solution for people who wish to build their own personal electronic library catalog.

Entertainics is a web-based software application used to gather information about DVD players from several web-sites on the internet. The purpose of this software is to help users search for DVD players in a faster and easier way, by avoiding the navigation on every web-site that contains this product.

Document representation is a fundamental concept in information retrieval (IR), and has been relied upon in textual IR systems since the advent of library catalogs. The reliance upon text-based representations of stored information has been perpetuated in conventional systems for the retrieval of moving images as well. Although newer systems have added image-based representations of moving image documents as aids to retrieval, there has been little research examining how humans interpret these different types of representations. Such basic research has the potential to inform IR system designers about how best to aid users of their systems in retrieving moving images. One key requirement for the effective use of document representations in either textual or image form is thedegree to which these representations are congruent with the original documents. A measure of congruence is the degree to which human responses to representations are similar to responses produced by the document being represented. The aim of this study was to develop a model for the representation of moving images based upon human judgements of representativeness. The study measured the degree of congruence between moving image documents and their representations, both text and image based, in a non-retrieval environment with and without task constraints. Multidimensional scaling (MDS) was used to examine the dimensional dispersions of human judgements for the full moving images and their representations.

Orientador: Paulo Augusto Castagna / Resumo: Esta tese trata da metodologia brasileira e internacional disponível para a elaboração de catálogos temáticos de obras e fontes musicais de compositores atuantes no Brasil. A partir da experiência de catalogação das obras e arranjos do músico alemão – declarado cidadão brasileiro e atuante em Blumenau (SC) durante mais de cinco décadas – Heinz Geyer (1897-1982), estabeleceu-se uma discussão sobre os parâmetros metodológicos envolvidos na produção deste instrumento de pesquisa. Constatou-se que, até então, não existia um levantamento científico de sua produção composicional e os escassos modelos existentes no Brasil pouco sustentavam a fundamentação de trabalhos dessa natureza. O objetivo geral foi contribuir para o desenvolvimento de metodologias para elaboração de catálogos temáticos, adequadas aos acervos musicais brasileiros. No âmbito do trabalho foi possível disponibilizar o catálogo de Geyer, localizar e conhecer o estado das fontes de suas obras e arranjos – na maior parte, ainda preservadas em manuscritos – e inserir o compositor no campo científico, possibilitando sua eventual reintegração à vida musical de Blumenau. Os procedimentos metodológicos desta pesquisa envolveram estudos terminológicos e conceituais em Arquivologia, reinterpretados para o âmbito da Música, uma ampla revisão bibliográfica em 37 catálogos nacionais e internacionais e a pesquisa documental propriamente dita. From the experience of cataloging the works and arrangements from the German musician - declared Brazilian citizen and active in Blumenau (Santa Catarina state) for more than five decades - Heinz Geyer (1897-1982), a discussion about the methodological parameters involved in the production of this research instrument was proposed. It was found that, until then, there was no scientific survey of his compositional production and the scarce models in Brazil hardly supported the foundation of works of this nature. The general objective was to contribute to the development of methodologies for the elaboration of thematic catalogs, appropriate to the Brazilian’s musical archives. Within the scope of the work, it was possible to make Geyer's catalog available as well as to locate and get to know the state of the sources of his works and arrangements - mostly still preserved in manuscripts - and insert the composer in the scientific field, enabling his potential reintegration into the musical life of Blumenau.
