Klang, Kent January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine the significance of having a music department at the public library in Enköping, and how the organization of the phonograms is handled. The different areas examined are the reason of the reintroduction of a music department, its budget, its users, the work with selection, the marketing, statistical data concerning loans, the work with classification, indexing, and organization of the phonograms and the future of the music department. The empirical material consists of qualitative interviews with staff connected to the music department at the public library in Enköping. For the theoretical frame, Sanna Taljas discourse analysis of music libraries in Finland is used. Talja presents three discourses which all show different views on what kind of material a music library should contain. The first discourse, The General Education Repertoire, advocates that the music library should supply a collection that could serve as educational and represent the history of music and its different genres. The second discourse, The Alternative Repertoire, advocates that the music library should serve as an alternative to the sources of commercial music and offer material with a more alternative character. The third discourse, The Demand Repertoire, advocates that the music library should build its collection based on the users demands and needs. The study shows that all three of the discourses are present when material for the collection is selected, even though The General Education Repertoire and The Demand Repertoire are the two most conspicuous. The study also shows that a music department was reintroduced in the library stock based on things like an interest in the art form as such in the library management. The department has had a positive impact on the library's entire statistics, even though loan figures of phonograms have showed a negative trend since the opening. The figures still remain fairly high so the music department is believed to have a future, even though its future also appears uncertain. When classifying phonograms, judgements made by other libraries regarding the work in question, and different sources on the Internet are helpful tools in the process before making a final decision. The organization of the phonograms on the shelves do not in detail follow their classification. Instead they are organized in more rough divisions in order to make the music department more user-friendly.

Indexação da pesquisa científica: uma proposta para o uso adequado dos termos finalizadores dos resumos / Indexing of scientific research: a proposal for the proper use of finalizers from summaries

Rocha, Lidianne Mércia Barbosa Malta 09 February 2017 (has links)
This scholarly work of conclusion of course (TACC), consisting of a scientific paper and a product of speech, discusses words representing the content (keywords and descriptors) used in abstracts of academic papers defended in 2013 and 2014, the professional master's in Health Education (MEPS), identifying them as terms finalizers and indexers of research. The method adopted was of documentary nature, exploratory and descriptive, with quantitative perspective, investigating 37 research through semi-structured, electronic questionnaire containing a total of 17 questions, with the first five draw the General profile of all jobs and the following 12 identify each of the terms that are described in their respective summaries. The interrogative instrument was developed by the researcher in the own masters through the platform Google drive, to support the documentary analysis, being validated through an Electronic Validation Panel during the discipline technology applied in teaching and research in health (TAEPS), from the same institution. The variables analyzed were: (a) amount of keywords, (b) finalizer Nomenclature of summary: keywords or descriptors, (c) characterization of keywords: free and structured terms, (d) frequency of keywords, (and) Terminology of input keywords, (f) capture of key words in the titles and (g) score used between the keywords. The amount of keywords used pointed out that the summaries of the TACC did not follow an internal standardization of MEPS, but it was necessary to fit the journals chosen for submission, after the defence of academic papers, following the requirements presuppose the possibility of publication. Various terms used as keywords summaries were not found in the main terminology banks (MeSH, DeCS and Thesaurus), but had strength so the construction of the indexing representative academic work as the terms present in the bases of access, being possible to suggest new terms are included in the recovery of information portals. Finally, the authors of the TACC used encoded descriptors. However, do not have cited in their methodologies, registry numbers, or the portal in which they were obtained, leading to complete lack of practice when accessing the databases available, where the distinction between free or structured terms could contribute better with the correct choice of words post-production of their abstracts. Points out that various terminologies used by them, had great relevance in cohesion and coherence in summaries in which they found, showing strong potential for indexing the portal DeCS, which highlights the need for even more dynamic and constant supply of new terms, enabling more research grants, from the enrichment of databases available, and taking into account the existing records. In order to target students, teachers and researchers, more thorough management of the finalizer of nomenclature summaries, which will represent the content of scholarly works, from graduations and post-graduate degrees and academic professionals, was created, as a product of intervention, an educational blog titled ‘Key words in Scientific Production of MEPS’, which guides you through the proper use of the words representative of abstracts (keywords and descriptors).

The Subject Cataloging is a process of thematic representation of the information and was developed in the United States from the consolidation of the american librarianship and of the librarian processes that evidenced the need for further development of catalogs, as they asserted themselves as an instrument indispensable to libraries and their user communities. However, despite Brazil having been heavily influenced by American Library, there is little national literature about and so little discussion of historical, conceptual and methodological aspects of Subject Cataloging. Thus, we addressed these aspects through theoretical study and also the work of Charles A. Cutter, fundamental name to the evolution of Cataloging, and the principles proposed in his Rules for a Dictionary Catalog. Thus, we had by objective was to assist in understanding these fundamentals about Subject Cataloging and provide theoretical support that could contribute to reducing the lack of this theme in Portuguese. From this, we outline the history of the Subject Cataloging departing from its broader context, which is Cataloging as a whole, and the development of American librarianship. Next, we discuss the concept of subject, given its importance and constant presence in the vocabulary of area and in the expression Subject Cataloging. We used the method of Think-aloud protocol, to seek the view of academics and professionals about the discussions raised here and thereby obtain data on the knowledge of these issues in these two spheres of activity, from which we confirm that although these topics have been little space between the Brazilian literature, and so, it is necessary that this approach is carried out to seek of the understanding of this conceptual universe. We conclude so far that actually there is a dearth of literature in Portuguese, to guide the epistemological foundation pillars for the Subject...(Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Almeida, Milene Rosa de 07 February 2014 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-06-02T19:16:40Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 6076.pdf: 4397186 bytes, checksum: d8416c2f12c1e128c75b2a82a7bbec86 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-02-07 / The rural development in the Brazilian South and Southeast started in the mid-eighteenth century, initially by mining and later by coffee and sugar cane crops. Besides the economic development, the architecture and culture are highlights from these regions. In order to describe tangible and intangible rural heritage from these farms, it was developed the Information Description Standard (IDS) using theoretical and methodological Information and computer sciences precepts. The IDS is compound by 13 description groups according to the scope, content and kind of heritage assets. The parameters to obtain a completed and detailed description of the heritage assets were taken from codes, standards and librarianship, archival, museological and computer science roadmaps. This research conducted a comparative study between the IDS description fields and the standard Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC 21), widely used in libraries. The methodology used a theoretical study on rural heritage and cataloging, highlighting the MARC 21 standard, followed by the comparative analysis of IDS and MARC 21. As a result, it was pointed out that the IDS needs of small interventions to enable a more complete description of the properties identified in São Paulo historic farms. In the end, it was concluded that IDS is able to perform the descriptive representation of the rural heritage satisfactorily.

Malmö Museer – öppenhet och lättillgänglighet av samlingar / Malmö Museums - openness and easy accessibility of collections

Ekberg, Alexander January 2021 (has links)
Digitization affects most organisations to some extent and museums are no exception. There are several different digital tools that enable the refinement of the museums’ cultural offerings. This study intends to investigate how Malmö museums takes advantage of them. At a time when increasing pressure is being placed on museums to publish their collections to the general population, to be accessible and open, it is relevant to see how Malmö museums choose to display their digital collections. Therefore, this essay is interested in the digital cataloging of museum content in the form of images and objects on Malmö museums database Carlotta. A case study consisting of an observation with the Carlotta-group was executed in addition to a conversation and two interviews with key persons within the museum. The results from this data are discussed in relation to other studies. Furthermore, an object image from Carlotta and one from Rijksmuseum are compared to show their similarities and differences. It turns out that Malmö Museums are aware of what needs to be done to secure their place in the digital sphere, but that there are obstacles such as a lack of resources and skills. Malmö museums encourages others to download, reuse and publish their material as long as they reference it correctly. One of the most important aspects of Malmö museums work is to market themselves as important to the public – a sort of fight for survival, according to one of the respondents. The primary goal for Malmö museums is to provide material to the public based on openness- and publicity principles.

Resource Description Diagram Supplement to “Cataloging Theory in Search of Graph Theory and Other Ivory Towers. Object: Cultural Heritage Resource Description Networks.”

Murray, Ronald J., Tillett, Barbara B. 15 August 2011 (has links)
These documents supplement the previously deposited Murray and Tillett working paper: “Cataloging Theory in Search of Graph Theory and Other Ivory Towers. Object: Cultural Heritage Resource Description Networks.” http://hdl.handle.net/10150/136270. A different version of Fig 8, “FRBR Paper Tool Diagram Elements And Graphs” is included. Documents not referenced in the paper include: “Modeling The Superwork Issue,” which models the concept of a Work composed of other Works two ways; “Progressive Disaggregation,” which demonstrates the recursive process by which simple resource and descriptions composed of other descriptions are resolved to elementary graph structures; and “Serial Publication,” which highlights the pedagogical and IT system guidance role that FRBR resource description diagrams can play with respect to complex publishing phenomena. A “Find & Navigate” diagram element has been introduced in the serial publication diagram as a theoretical necessity with practical implications. The elements provide a consistent means for depicting the linking functions provided by identifiers, name and subject authority records, and prescribed and arbitrary relationships. The tables and legends found on the right side of the diagram suggest how diagram components may be expressed as “triple” style statements for implementation-minded readers.
