Climate Change Framed : How the Topical, Spatial and Temporal Dimensions of Climate Change Framing Have Developed in Time

Viehmeier, Alexander January 2022 (has links)
The framing of news stories is found to be changing throughout time. This thesis advances a quantitative, longitudinal content analysis to examine the news coverage on climate change in five different countries over a period of ten years. Applying Chyi and McCombs two-dimensional measurement scheme, this thesis finds that the international frame was the most deployed spatial frame, while the present frame was the most used temporal frame. The political action, environmental risk and science frames, in their own regard, were the most deployed topical frames. Centrally, the analysis showed that the environmental risked frame is increasingly superseded by the science frame. This suggests that scientific considerations have become increasingly important in climate change journalism. Additionally, a higher climatological vulnerability of a country does not appear to translate to a risk focused framing of news articles. Moreover, the analysis finds that the societal spatial frame is increasingly used, pointing to emphasised national considerations in climate change journalism. Finally, the data of the thesis supports the emergence of a previously unconsidered climate action frame.

Klimatet i omklädningsrummet-Om elevers upplevelser utav omklädningsrummet i anslutning till

Forsmark, Hanna January 2010 (has links)
In this paper I have examine how pupils feel about the changing-room before and after the Physical education. I have therefore investigated if it exist uneasiness among the pupils about the situation and if there is any differences between girls and boys experiences. The purpose of this paper have been to examine 10-12 years age pupils feelings about intimacy in closed rooms. I want to illustrate pupils experiences of the changing-room to teachers and adults in the school so that they could act. Genderstudies has been used as a foundation in my work to observe girls and boys experiences of the changing-room. Discussions have been made together with Bourdieus habitustheory to pupils different opinion of the situation in the changing-room. The method was first of all quantitative with questionnaires, but some open alternatives were treated qualitative, 129 pupils participate. It was proved to be most common that the pupils always felt comfortable in the locker room, although those who didn`t should not be ignored. It was no significant differences between girls and boys experiences other than that boys in som way felt more comfortable in the changing-room than the girls. Further appear that several pupils felt uncomfortable to be present of others when they were naked.

Svenska fastighetsaktier i ett förändrat finansiellt klimat / Swedish Real Estate Stocks in a Changing Financial Climate

Nordin, Erik, Blomkvist, Isak January 2023 (has links)
After the relatively large drop in the stock market in February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the stock market experienced a very strong recovery between March 2020 and November 2021. Asinflation increased in 2021, more people started to forecast future interest rate increases. This, combined with other factors, such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, led many investors tobecome passive and skeptical about the performance of the stock market. From November 2021 toNovember 2022, the broad Stockholm index, OMX Stockholm PI, fell by 22 percent. The real estateindex, OMX Stockholm Real Estate PI, had a much larger decline of 44 percent. The purpose of the study was to investigate which real estate companies whose share prices had thegreatest deviation from the real estate index during the period November 2021 to November 2022, andwhy. The study has been based on both a qualitative and quantitative survey. In the qualitativeresearch, 6 highly relevant persons have been interviewed. The quantitative part consists of a sectorcomparison and in-depth analysis of the 10 real estate companies that deviated the most from the indexduring the selected period. The result shows that all real estate companies had a negative development in their share pricesbetween November 2021 and November 2022. One reason why real estate companies have been morenegatively affected, compared to other sectors, is that real estate companies generally use higher levelsof leverage, which becomes more costly in poorer financial climates with higher interest rates. Whilethere are many individual factors that explain the performance of each specific company, four factorshave been found to be particularly important in determining how the stock market has reacted toindividual companies. These have been the ownership structure, the capital structure, the real estateportfolio and the valuation of the company at the beginning of the period. It has been important to have a strong financial position, both for the company and its owners. This isa pattern that has been evident from news reports and interviews. Regarding the real estate portfolio, among the companies analyzed, the stock market has traded down the real estate companies that hadthe majority of their real estate portfolio consisting of housing and community properties. Thecompanies that experienced the largest decline in their share prices between November 2021 andNovember 2022 generally had higher valuations at the beginning of the period. This was because thestock market, in the context of changing market conditions, shifted in what was rewarded.

The Influence Of Graphic Organizers On Students' Ability To Summarize And Comprehend Science Content Regarding The Earth's Changing Surface

Goss, Patricia 01 January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this action research project was to determine how my practice of using graphic organizers during instruction influenced my students' ability to summarize and comprehend significant fifth grade Earth Science content regarding the Earth's changing surface. A secondary purpose was to determine the students' perceptions of how concept mapping assisted in making connections to understand the fifth grade Earth Science content regarding the Earth's changing surface. The three processes used to collect data for this research were concept maps, focus groups and the pre- and post-test results. The themes that emerged were the ability to describe, categorize and classify details, the increased accuracy of the use of vocabulary and the memory of the concepts that students' ability to recall information and understand the Earth Science concepts as evidenced through summarization and comprehension through the pre- and post-test.

Analysis of positive solutions for singular p-Laplacian problems via fixed point methods

Alotaibi, Trad Haza 07 August 2020 (has links)
In this dissertation, we study the existence and nonexistence of positive solutions to some classes of singular p-Laplacian boundary value problems with a parameter. In the first study, we discuss positive solutions for a class of sublinear Dirichlet p- Laplacian equations and systems with sign-changing coefficients on a bounded domain of Rn via Schauder Fixed Point Theorem and the method of sub- and supersolutions. Under certain conditions, we show the existence of positive solutions when the parameter is large and nonexistence when the parameter is small. In the second study, we discuss positive radial solutions for a class of superlinear p- Laplacian problems with nonlinear boundary conditions on an exterior domain via degree theory and fixed point approach. Under certain conditions, we show the existence of positive solutions when the paprameter is small and nonexistence when the paramter is large. Our results provide extensions of corresponding ones in the literature from the Laplacian to the p-Laplacian, and can be applied to the challenging infinite semipositone case

The Design and Evaluation of Ambient Displays in a Hospital Environment

Koelemeijer, Dorien January 2016 (has links)
Hospital environments are ranked as one of the most stressful contemporary work environments for their employees, and this especially concerns nurses (Nejati et al. 2016). One of the core problems comprises the notion that the current technology adopted in hospitals does not support the mobile nature of medical work and the complex work environment, in which people and information are distributed (Bardram 2003). The employment of inadequate technology and the strenuous access to information results in a decrease in efficiency regarding the fulfilment of medical tasks, and puts a strain on the attention of the medical personnel. This thesis proposes a solution to the aforementioned problems through the design of ambient displays, that inform the medical personnel with the health statuses of patients whilst requiring minimal allocation of attention. The ambient displays concede a hierarchy of information, where the most essential information encompasses an overview of patients’ vital signs. Data regarding the vital signs are measured by biometric sensors and are embodied by shape-changing interfaces, of which the ambient displays consist. User-authentication permits the medical personnel to access a deeper layer within the hierarchy of information, entailing clinical data such as patient EMRs, after gesture-based interaction with the ambient display. The additional clinical information is retrieved on the user’s PDA, and can subsequently be viewed in more detail, or modified at any place within the hospital. In this thesis, prototypes of shape-changing interfaces were designed and evaluated in a hospital environment. The evaluation was focused on the interaction design and user-experience of the shape-changing interface, the capabilities of the ambient displays to inform users through peripheral awareness, as well as the remote communication between patient and healthcare professional through biometric data. The evaluations indicated that the required attention allocated for the acquisition of information from the shape-changing interface was minimal. The interaction with the ambient display, as well as with the PDA when accessing additional clinical data, was deemed intuitive, yet comprised a short learning curve. Furthermore, the evaluations in situ pointed out that for optimised communication through the ambient displays, an overview of the health statuses of approximately eight patients should be displayed, and placed in the corridors of the hospital ward.
