An Exploratory Study of Children's Ideas About Death, with a View Toward Developing an Explanatory Model

Hargrove, Eddie L. 05 1900 (has links)
Much research relating to children and death has focused on the age-graded developmental model originally proposed by Nagy in the late 1940s. Children are alleged to pass from an infantile to a mature view, seeing death first as separation, then as the result of intervention by a supernatural being, and finally as an irreversible biological process. Accepted theory for thirty years, scholars have since noted difficulty in duplicating Nagy's findings and have come to question the universal application of the developmental model. Bluebond-Langner proposes an alternative model in which all views of death are present in all stages of development. She maintains that the particular orientation a child displays is a result of personal and social experiences.

The child's will in custody, residence and visitation disputes

Vilander, Carolin, Johansson, Evelina January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study was to increase understanding of the extent to which the child's will is given in Swedish courts' overall assessments of the best interests of the child in disputes on custody, resident and visitation (VBU). 18 District Court judgments have been collected from the database Zeteo via court judgments from Sweden's six Courts of Appeal. Based on a qualitative research effort, a content analysis was conducted on the judgments. The content analysis resulted in the following three categories being identified: The court judges according to the expressed will of the child, The court judges against the expressed will of the child, and The will of the child was omitted in the district court's assessment. The results were mainly analyzed based on childhood sociological perspectives, Hart’s ladder of participation and family law regulations. The theoretical framework was used to illustrate how the child was presented and socially constructed, and what impact this had on the space the child's will was given in the court's assessments of the best interests of the child. This was then reflected in the prevailing laws. The results of the study showed that the child's will appeared in about half of the cases, and that the court judged according to the will of the child in less than one third of them. The study also showed that the court tended to question the authenticity of the will of the children whose wishes did not comply with what the court considered to be the best interests of the child. In the majority of the cases where the children’s will were not given any room in the judgment, the court generally gave no reasons why the will was not reported.

Příprava na přijímací zkoušky na víceletá gymnázia / Preparation for admission examinations for grammar schools. View of parents and children.

Štinglová, Kateřina January 2020 (has links)
The paper looks at parents' experiences related to their children's preparations for attending an eight-year gymnázium (academic secondary school), with the goal of identifying and understanding how families experience this preparatory period and what preparatory strategies they choose; or rather, how they approach the preparatory exams, what preparations the family undergoes, what emotions they experience, and how they assess this experience. The theoretical part of this theoretical and empirical paper briefly defines some of the basic terminology necessary for understanding the paper's theoretical foundations and presents the legislative background of the state admissions exams. The third chapter of the theoretical part looks at several realized studies that have focused on the subject of multi- year gymnázia and parents' views on this phenomenon. The various chapters of the paper's empirical section present the author's qualitative methodology, describe the study's approach, and show the results of a qualitative study of parents and children who underwent this experience in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 school years. Their experiences with and perception of this process were determined via semi- structured interviews with both parents and children. The study also made use of interpretative phenomenological...

Den sociala konstruktionen av ålder och kompetens i förskolan : En diskurspsykologisk analys av pedagogers porträtteringar av 1-3 åringars kompetens / The social construction of age and competence in preschool : A discursive psychological analysis of how teachers portray 1-3 years old’s competence.

Lindström Pettersson, Alice, Herstorp Rönn, Emma January 2022 (has links)
I resultatet framträdde totalt fem tolkningsrepertoarer.

To listen and give back, and share wonder together : An interview study about preschool teachers' experiences of creating physical environments based on children's influence

Johansson, Moa, Fridholm, Caroline January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to examine the experiences preschool teachers describe about the creation of the physical environment in preschool based on children's interests, curiosity and exploration in the moment. To achieve our chosen purpose, we have started from the following questions: What strategies do preschool teachers use to give the children influence over the design of the physical environment in preschool? What challenges do preschool teachers highlight that they face in the creation of physical environments in preschool based on children's interest and exploration? We have chosen to start from a childhood sociological perspective in the study, which is not only about the knowledge about children and childhood, but something that should also be understood in relation to time and space. This means that children are conceived and affected in different ways depending on the environment that surrounds them. We have used a qualitative research method, where the collected material has been done in four semi-structured interviews with different preschool teachers. The results show different experiences and challenges among the preschool teachers regarding the work of designing an environment based on the children's interest and influence, as well as the importance of the approach the preschool teacher chooses to take. The preschool teachers describe both experiences of the importance of a common view of children in the work team and challenges in the work to meet each individual child's needs and interests.
