Travel intentions and risk perception in times of Covid-19 : A study on the Millennial generation of Cologne, Germany

Lapteva, Natalina January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the intentions to travel among the Millennials of Colognewhile considering their travel risk perception because of the corona pandemic. The target groupand population are the Millennials of Cologne, as they appeal as most suitable due to theirtechnological advancement, full age, and specific characteristics. After reviewing the literatureregarding travel intention and behaviour, health crises and travel risk perception, a quantitativequestionnaire was conducted for data collection. The outcomes were tested on Cronbach’salpha, chi-square goodness-of-fit and the two qualitative questions of the questionnaire weresubjected to a content analysis. The results show that the prospected behaviour tends to changedue to the coronavirus and although people are worried about the Corona virus situation, theyare not worried about the circumstances at their travel destination. The transport mode of theirnext trip is expected to change to predominantly individual transport, such as cars. Tourists willavoid mass tourism destinations and focus on more individual and natural places. Quality ofhealthcare, a previously obtained insurance and good hygiene standards will be importantfactors for their next trip, as well. By basing on and comparing this thesis to Chebli and BenSaid (2020), a different viewpoint on people’s travel intentions to travel during/after Covid-19is shown, depending on their next travel period. The findings indicate that there can be a shifttowards a more sustainable trend, but also with more precautions and individualism. Thevaccine is seen as the next aspiration towards a more normal life as known before the pandemic. This thesis discloses new insights in terms of travel intentions and risk perception in the contextof the pandemic. Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) and tourists’ businesses inCologne can promote destinations with the named desired characterises to its residents.Furthermore, close regions, which are reachable by car, as well as generally unique destinations, might consider shifting their image towards the desired destinations characteristics.

The Church in Brazil and the pastoral zeal of D. José Joaquim Justiniano Mascarenhas Castelo Branco: brief overview of the implementation of colonial catholicism and their reflections on the seventh Rio episcopate of the eighteenth century

Frederico Morato Nery 13 March 2015 (has links)
This research discusses the formation of the identity of the Catholic religion in colonial Brazil and its impact on recurring excesses in the second half of the eighteenth century, on São Sebastião of Rio de Janeiros diocese, during the episcopate of D. José Joaquim Justiniano Mascarenhas Castelo Branco (1773 1805) who was the first bishop that has taken command of his native diocese. The theme proposed directly addresses the complex relationship between the temporal power, represented by the Portuguese State embodied in the real figure and the spiritual power, that belongs to the Church the maximum representation in the place varies according to the position occupied by the clergy, respecting the ecclesiastical hierarchy (monks, nuns, priests, bishops, etc.). Despite the requirement of Catholicism in the colony, the metropolitan crown was unable to provide the necessary support for the establishment of a true religion to the Council of Trents determinations, as determined the right of patronage. This led to the formation of a colonial Catholicism sometimes apparent. The ethnic and cultural miscegenation has given opening for the emergence of syncretic practices and different social behaviors disapproved by the Church. The misconduct was a problem that affected not only the faithful, but also the clergy, and this compound at the time by poorly trained priests and some foreign dubious natures. Thus, the eighteenth century Brazil's bishops had to deal with problems that were, in fact, a reflection of the local colonial structure reality - which, despite being the Church an important ally of the Portuguese State, and vice versa, there was also a great rivalry. Therefore, there was at that time constant battles between civil and religious authorities, they joined, or not, according to their interests.

São eles os principais personagens desta análise, atores que rearticulavam padrões religiosos e morais do “mundo cristão” e “indígena” e / The research devotes attention to the practices of shamanism described in chronicles of trips and religious correspondence (XVI-XVII centuries), and especially in complaints inquisitorial (eighteenth century). Cologne and the 'Other' : A Critical Discourse Analysis of the Representation of 'Irregular' Migrants in the 'Süddeutsche Zeitung' in Relation to New Year's Eve 2015 in Cologne

van Rooij, Daniël January 2022 (has links)
This thesis addresses representation of ‘irregular’ migrants in the ‘Süddeutsche Zeitung’ (SZ). The study employs the discourse event of New Year’s Eve 2015 in Cologne as a temporal marker and aims to examine representations of ‘irregular’ migrants prior to and following the event. A critical discourse analysis (CDA) of fourteen articles is conducted, and Fairclough’s three-dimensional model is employed to analyse the material. Following a textual analysis, in which the use of modality is examined, the sociocultural dimension of the newspaper discourse is investigated. This section sees the application of Stuart Hall’s Othering to the analysis, as well as an inspection of prevalent themes found in the material. The analysis concludes with the finding of ‘deservingness’ and ‘semantics of crime and threat’ as prevalent themes. Furthermore, the results show that ‘irregular’ migrants are constructed as the ‘Other’ in SZ articles, however, this finding is not generalisable to the entire sample.
