Studien använder sig av en Multimodal Kritisk Diskursanalys (MCDA) för att analysera vanliga människor i reality-TV ur ett klassperspektiv. Syftet är att undersöka huruvida programmet Ullared reproducerar idéer om klass och hur detta gör sig synligt genom konstruktionen av karaktären Morgan. Studien använder sig av ett teoretiskt ramverk bestående av vanlighet, klass, diskurs och skratt. I analysen undersöks utvalda sekvenser där semiotiska resurser granskas för att se hur de arbetar för att konstruera Morgan. Resultatet visar på att musik och videoredigering är två viktiga resurser i konstruktionen av Morgan, dock har allt som ses och hörs i bild en komplex samverkan med varandra som bidrar till slutkonstruktionen. Konstruktionen kommunicerar idéer om klass och gör det framförallt genom ett avvikande från normer som standardiserats av medelklassen.

During the late 1960s pandemonium and chaos spread throughout the northeast part of the Irish island in the area known as Northern Ireland, a part of the United Kingdom. The conflict was the culmination of many factors such as the British colonization of the island during the 12th century, the semi-liberation and divide of the Island during the 1920s, local religious persecution and the advancing civil rights movement. At the heart of the conflict were organizations that gained most of their infamy through the terror and violent conflict, like the IRA and their related factions. These fought for the “liberation” of the entire Irish island as the northern part had been left under British control after the easter rising revolution which established the current Irish Republic, or Ireland.The inhabitants of Northern Ireland had to endure 30 years of conflict during 1968-1998 between the IRA, local police, British military and other loyalist terror organizations. At the end of the conflict, it was evidently clear that the majority of the victims of violence had not been tied to the perpetrators of it. These were civilians whose deaths can be seen as a result of terrorist attacks, sectarian violence and a situation far beyond any official authority's control.This thesis explores one of the many facets of expression during the conflict, music. Specifically, it's an attempt to categorize and contextualize what is known as Irish rebel music. The rebel music can be seen as an outlet for republican individuals and groups to express their reasoning and legitimization for their own actions, thus creating a form of propaganda through discourse. During the paper nine different songs, mostly gathered from republican publications, will be analyzed to see how the so-called rebels choose to portray themselves, their enemies and their reasoning. What becomes apparent is the ever-present violence and how it's used as a tool to create a discourse where the struggles and brutality of the IRA are justified. Furthermore, it looks at the constructs of the other within the British and official government forces which can also be tied to the sectarian violence that’s been a large part of the population's history.

Saudi Arabia has been accused of sportswashing, an attempt to improve its reputation through buying the English football club Newcastle United. The purpose of this paper is to explore through a discourse analysis how Saudi Arabia's action to acquire Newcastle United can be seen as an exercise of power, and whether and how the images presented construct and reinforce orientalist discourses about the Saudi state and the region. The discourse analysis is conducted using Laclau and Mouffe's methodology and the theoretical framework applied is Joseph Nye's soft power, Edward Said's Orientalism and hegemony. Based on the international newspaper The Guardian and the human rights organization Amnesty International, orientalist discourses have been identified and the purchase of Newcastle United has resulted in soft disempowerment effects for Saudi Arabia. Local newspaper The Chronicle also constructed orientalist discourses about the state of Saudi Arabia but legitimizes the purchase of Newcastle United making the soft power exercise successful.

En diskursanalys på två av de mest frekvent använda historieböckerna på den svenska gymnasieskolan "Epos" och "Alla tiders historia A". Dessa läses med hjälp av en diskursanlys framtagen av Lennart Hellspong "Metoder för brukstextanalys". För att se om där finns spår av eurocentrism och om de motsvarar Lpf11s kursplan för ämnet historia. Resultatet visar på att de båda böckerna är allt för vinklade till Europas fördel och att de på egenhand inte motsvarar kursplanen. / A discourse analysis of two of the most frequently used history books on the Swedish upper secondary school "Epos" and "All-time history A". The represeantation of refugees in the mainstream media in Germany is a vital part in the understanding of the cultural impact of the refugee crisis. What is written in the German mainstream media is of special interest in times where the press is denounced as "lying press" or "press of lies." This analysis takes a look at the refugee discourse before, during and after the events of New Year's Eve in Cologne and draws conclusions on the impact the attacks on women had on the media discourse.

Med detta syftas det på händelsen då franska ungdomar från förorterna gjorde revolt och startade kravaller runt om i landet. Detta utspel har skapat en stor debatt i tidningarna. Hagbyborna och företrädare för Hageby så som föreningen Ditt Nya Hageby rasat mot uttalandet. I detta arbete ska jag med hjälp av diskursanalys analysera innehållet i två lokala Norrköpings tidningar för att se hur bilden av Hageby framställs. Genom att analysera materialet vill jag försöka få en bild av utfallet i debatten. Jag vill även knyta an den rådande diskursen om Hageby till en mer övergripande nationell nivå, genom att sammankoppla med den forskningen som redan finns i dag.</p>

Gender and politics, how well do they match? An interesting way of studying gender and politics is therefore to look at the legislation proposals from the government. In Sweden when the government make a legislation proposal it have to have a chapter that consider the aspect of equality between men and women. This paper aim to study the language in the gender aspect of the legislation proposal. This is done from a gender perspective. I also want to look at the relationship between equality between women and men and politics by trying to answer why the gender perspective is written as it is. The method used here in this paper is discourse analysis and mainly Michel Foucault and critical discourse analysis. Discourse analysis is the only method that makes it possibly to look at the language and the different discourses and to see what lies hidden under the written text. The results in this paper shows that the gender chapter of the legislation proposal is not based on equality between women and men. The gender chapter doesn’t add anything new to the equality between women and men and it doesn’t make any effort to really try to take the gender concerns seriously and professionally.
