This study, written by Fredrica Eurén and Linnea Skoglund, is about how prison guards who work in a detention department in Stockholm experience the treatment of homeless people who are taken into care due to intoxication. The captive homeless often receive an extra favorable treatment from the prison guards that differs from the standardized work routines. The motivations for special treatment are based on the meeting that takes place between the homeless person in care and the prison guard. The deviations that are made, as well as extra benefits that are given to the homeless in care, include food and drink and also the opportunity to stay longer in custody so that the homeless person can spend a little more time inside. The results are analyzed using two theories: emotional work and street level bureaucracy. These theories partly explain how employees in certain professions cope with emotions, and partly how employees at street level within government organizations use their discretion in decision making. Similar studies have been carried out in prison, but not in arrest as examined in this study. The results suggest that the prison guards, to some extent, feel a kind of civil courage towards the homeless, which in turn means that they provide more favorable treatment to the homeless in custody.

/
Reasons why anger evokes is individual and can elicit when a person experience unfairness or feel powerlessness. Anger feels similar on the inside among all individuals which means that a student who feels anger due to a friend who as cheated on an exam can experience the same anger as the patient who is forced to wait for his/her medications. When anger has entered the body it has to “come out”. How anger leaves the body differs from person to person where some express their anger physically while others get their anger out verbally or through tears. When anger has left the body, reflections become possible. Some people experience anger as a driving force for making a change while others feel disgrace and regret due to their behaviour. Anger is something we all have experienced and will continue to do. Understanding the phenomenon anger can create conditions for professionals to understand the patient’s anger. A good relationship between professionals and patients can be founded through understanding why anger evokes which is important for developing a good nursing care

This research aims to make difference on the history of Degree in Mathematics in our country, since we try to see and make it be seen through which practices and discourses started the first Degree in Mathematics in Brazil, created at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Languages and Literature of the University of São Paulo in 1934, and how this establishment reverberates in our Degree in Mathematics today. This doctoral research seeks, according to our main theorist, Michel Foucault, to make a diagnosis of the current Mathematics Degree Course in Brazil, that is, to create a look - our look of this past and its strength in the present - investigating the concept of parrhesia - the courage of the truth - within that course. Foucault's archeology was used as research methodology and writing, because archeology allows us to show the relationship between seeing and saying, between the visible and the expressible and what forces are acting on the threshold of this process. It allows us to look at the resonance of discourse practices. This is a description of discourse as an object-monument of an event. Developing an archeology, according to Foucault, is to produce a historical and philosophical description without the intention of making judgments about the events of the past with the look of the present. Through the fragments used - written documents such as speeches, laws, political pedagogical projects, minutes and others- we anarchaeologically describe the blossoming of ideas, formulation of positivities, rationales to understand at present how the past was constituted and how the construction of this past currently moves power strength and endurance present in this Course enabled by the Courage of the Truth.

The red badge of courage : uma análise descritiva de suas traduções no Brasil /Ferreira, Fabiane Rocha Rodrigues. January 2004 (has links)
The Red Badge of Courage. / Abstract: The present work aims at a descriptive analysis of three translations into Portuguese of The Red Badge of Courage, by the American Stephen Crane, in order to find out which translation conveys a stylistic correspondence with the source text. Chapter 1 deals with the author's life and work, putting The Red Badge of Courage in its literary-historical context, and with a brief study about the several books and articles that contribute themselves to the analysis of The Red Badge of Courage. The second chapter is about the theory of translation and the problem of style in it. This research attempts to follow Aubert's (1998) and Barbosa's (1990) proposals regarding the procedures of translation; the study of differences between the concrete and abstract levels of expression by Vinay & Darbelnet (1995); and also the tension between literal and free translation. Chapter 3 discourses on Impressionism in painting and its influence on literature and therefore on The Red Badge of Courage. The fourth chapter deals with the description and analysis of excerpts of the above-mentioned book, pointing out the procedures of translation employed in the texts, noticing the difficulties faced by the translators, as well as the solutions they found in order to keep the original meaning and to recreate the form of the source text. / Mestre
