Background: The Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments came into force on 1 January 1994.People with major, lasting disabilities have been guaranteed better living conditions by means of personal assistance. Working as a personal assistant in the homes of people with different types of disabilities can vary considerably. Attention has been called to various inadequacies in the work environment of personal assistants. Purpose: To describe how personal assistants for the third category of people under LSS experience their work environment. Method: Six semi-structured interviews were conducted with personal assistants in two different municipalities. The interviews were subjected to a latent content analysis. Results: The results are described on the basis of six categories: professional attitude, respect for the patient, emotional stress, physical stress, sense of professional security, and professional pride. An overarching theme was created during the process: Well-being in a challenging work environment. Conclusion: The results showed that the personal assistants experienced a sense of wellbeing despite major physical and psychosocial stress factors in their work environment. They also experienced a sense of security and pride in their ability to deal with the challenging work environment that they encountered. Occupational health nurse has an important role to be notified of the working conditions that the personal assistants working under. The personal assistants need to feel supported and room for maneuver to balance the loads they are subjected to in the profession.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between gender and self reported symptoms (physiological and psychological) and sense of coherence (SOC) and Job Demand-Control-Social support (JDCS). The sample consisted of 360 respondents (nfemale= 261, nmale= 99), in the ages between 19-53 (M=25,57, SD=5,77), all students from Växjö University. A quantitative work method was used in the study; data was collected using questionnaires that consisted of self-reported questions, based on three parts: A modified symptom checklist, SOC 13 and a modified JDCS questionnaire. The result of our study showed that both SOC and JDCS had an effect on self-reported symptoms but there were no interaction between SOC and JDCS. No significant gender differences were found regarding the level of SOC. Female students reported symptoms in a significant higher extent than male students. There were no gender differences regarding JDCS. Our results are discussed in relation to previous studies. Our conclusion is that it is important to perform further research on students’ health and work environment.

DEN HÄLSOFRÄMJANDE BETYDELSEN AV SOCIALT STÖD FÖR ARBETSRELATERAD STRESS : En kvantitativ studieSundbäck, Magnus January 2015 (has links)
Changes in the labor market because of downsizing and efficiency improvements for the individual meant more responsibility, workload and the increasing demands of the job. With this development, stress-related diseases have increased in Sweden in recent years. It appears that social support can serve as a health resource in relation to the degree of work-related stress. Furthermore, a high load at work and in private life may have an adverse effect and contribute to a higher distress levels. The purpose of this study is then to examine the extent to which social support and the double burden can be linked to work-related stress. The results have been analyzed with the theoretical approach based on the Demand-Control-Support model and social support that health promotion resource. To examine the relationship between social support and the double burden in relation to work-related stress a quantitative survey has been applied. Collected data were analyzed in univariate and multivariate linear regression analyzes. The analysis revealed that work-related stress had no significant correlation with social support at work, in private and double load. However, it emerged that gender was associated with the rate of work-related stress.

Safety Climate, Safety Behaviours and Control: An Application of the Job Demand-Control model to Occupational SafetyPearce, Megan Nicole January 2012 (has links)
While the literature surrounding the negative effects of stress on health and well-being is plentiful, there is a distinct lack of research applying stress frameworks to an organisational safety context. This study investigated the impact of stressors and strains on safety in the workplace, using the Job Demand-Control model as a research framework. In order to maintain a proactive approach to safety management, safety climate, safety compliance and safety participation were used as study variables as they have been established as antecedents to accidents and injuries in the workplace. From questionnaire data from employees with regular safety issues it was found that a positive relationship exists between safety climate and safety behaviours. Satisfaction was found to mediate the relationship between safety climate and one dimension of the safety compliance measure used. Providing support for the buffer hypothesis of the Job Demand-Control model, safety control moderated the relationship between safety climate and safety participation. Control over work scheduling, and decision latitude moderated the relationship between safety climate and safety participation but were indicative of an enhancing effect, rather than a buffering effect. The results suggest that control is an important variable to consider in terms of safety.

Hur arbetsledare främjar den psykosociala arbetsmiljön?Olsson, Linnéa January 2015 (has links)

Estresse no trabalho de enfermeiros que atuam em hospitais privados segundo o modelo demanda-controle / Stress in nurses working in private hospitals that operate according to the demand-control modelFernanda Henriques da Silva 26 February 2015 (has links)
The study focused on levels of psychological demands and control over the work of nurses working in private hospitals. The general objective to evaluate the levels of psychological demand and control over the work of nurses working in private hospitals according to the demand-control model. This is a cross-sectional study of 69 nurses (n=69) operating in various private hospitals. To characterize the sample used the Sociodemographic Questionnaire and to assess the psychosocial aspects of work the "Job Content Questionnaire". Data collection was between the months of September and October 2014. For data analysis we used SPSS 18.0 and Microsoft Excel Office 2010 program. The main findings in the study sample were predominantly female (78,3%), aged between 24 and 47 years old with most between the ages of 20 and 29, 50.7% reported being married. Regarding exposure to stress the study showed that the sample had high strain (56.5%) and active work (53.6%). Given the above, it is concluded that the sample is of workers with high demand and high control featuring active work, which is ideal in nursing work, although not all of this professional performance scopes allow such freedom, because the aspects of the profession, for example, fragmentation of work processes, bureaucratization, routinization, rigid hierarchy among others. It is understood that further studies using this instrument model can contribute to the knowledge of the real working conditions of nurses, focused on psychosocial aspects, which are potential stimuli for stress at work. This knowledge leads us to a deeper reflection of the health of nursing workers in hospitals, and allows us to reflect on the changes necessary to reduce the psychological demands at work allowing greater autonomy and versatility in performing the tasks that can contribute to improving the quality of life at work, therefore improving the care provided.
