Järnålderns gudomliga tvillingar? : Mytologiskt tvillingskap i Skandinaviens materiella kultur / The Divine Twins of the Iron Age? : Mythological twinship in the Scandinavian material culture

Danielsson, Chris January 2022 (has links)
This essay examines the Proto-Indo-European motif of the Divine Twins, as it has been interpreted in Scandinavia during the Bronze and Iron Ages. Because of the difference in opinion between archaeological researchers regarding when the Divine Twins disappeared, an examination of the material culture that has been connected to this motif is undertaken. Duality as a concept is used to discuss the relationship of mythological twins to, on one hand, likeness and closeness, and, on the other, opposing personalities, contrasting aspects and animosity. Based on the analysis of the Scandinavian material culture, it is concluded that the Divine Twins as a motif survived the debated Bronze Age collapse. Furthermore, the inclusion of Nordic ethnographic accounts from the 19th and 20th century may imply that the Divine Twins survived, at least in popular beliefs, well into the 1900s.

Côté, Marie 18 February 2022 (has links)

[en] SALVATION IN ZECH. 8:1-8: EXEGETICAL READING FROM THE SCENARIO OF ZECH. 7:4-14 / [pt] SALVAÇÃO EM ZC 8,1-8: LEITURA EXEGÉTICA A PARTIR DO CENÁRIO DE ZC 7,4-14

JANE MARIA FURGHESTTI LIMA 16 March 2020 (has links)
[en] The present survey has as principal purpose to study the salvation in Zech 8:1-8, revealing an exegetical reading of this unit from the scenario of Zech 7:4-14, and to evidence the inter-relations between the units, developing new knowledge of Zech 8:1-8 in relation to Zech 7:4-14. The survey takes into account that although the texts of Zech 8:1-8 and Zech 7:4-14 can promptly come up with a relation of opposition between them, there is a thematic coherence, which makes the sequence of the two units justifiable. From this understanding, one can see that there is a connection between Zech 8:1-8 and Zech 7:4-14, which justifies the tension relations in both texts. The joint understanding of the two units also reveals a thematic-theological sense that highlights the dynamics of salvation and rebuke of God in the face of the behaviour of his people. Both textual units followed the same methodology in their stages until their final development: the essential steps of the historical-critical method, combining them with the synchronic analysis of the texts in their final and canonical form. The units of Zech 8:1-8 and Zech 7:4-14 when studied together showed an affinity and theological sense, which are perceived in divine action in the face of the behaviour of the pre-exilic generation and in divine action before the answer of the community of the prophet, which seems to repeat the patterns from past. YHWH condemned the people of the past generation for their inflexible and rebellious behaviour (Zech 7:4-14). In turn, he will release new groups of exiles, who will create God s new people, through righteous behaviour and submissive to his words (Zech 8:1-8).

[pt] O SACRIFÍCIO E O PATHOS DIVINO: APROXIMAÇÕES ENTRE RENÉ GIRARD E JÜRGEN MOLTMANN / [en] SACRIFICE AND DIVINE PATHOS: APPROXIMATIONS BETWEEN RENÉ GIRARD AND JÜRGEN MOLTAMNN

SIDNEI JOSE DA SILVA 16 March 2020 (has links)
[en] Sacrifice and divine pathos, approximations between René Girard and Jürgen Moltamnn are inscribed among the fertile interdisciplinary articulations of the theology of this open and sensitive time when speaking of God in the contemporary world. The clues left by the strange relationship between violence and religion, which had long troubled ethnology, but which had recently cooled down with sparse responses, received fresh breath through the Girard s work. Starting from the same sacrificial hermeneutic key, but using distinct epistemological categories, Girard s thought and Moltmann s theology merge, demonstrating the unusual witnessing unity of the Gospels as a definitive complement to the narrative of salvific history and full demonstration of God s pathos in favor of all humanity. This is not simply because the Crucified is vindicated and inscribed in atrocity and covert violence, but precisely because he is the least probable victim of the whole story.

Shayh Yusuf Al-Maqassari's literary contribution with a special attention to his Matalib Al-Salikin (The Quests of the spiritual seekers)

Sahib, Muzdalifah January 2019 (has links)
Text in English and Arabic / Bibliography: leaves 373-390 / The importance of this research on the life of Shaykh Yūsuf‟s life and legacy is eviden t from the depth of the reports on "Shaykh Yūsuf al-Maqassarī’s literary contribution with a special attention to his Maṭālib al-Sālikῑn [The Quests of the Spiritual Seekers].” We contend that without a comprehensive knowledge of it, some of the subtleties and nuances of the Shaykh as well as his treatises will remain concealed from us. I utilised the comprehensive religious historical and philological approaches following the methodology of Sultan, Nabilah Lubis, and Suleman Essop Dangor to complement al-Maqassarī‟s history, his literary contribution in general and to gain the essence of his Maṭālib al-Sālikῑn through commentaries. I also used hermeneutic‟s theory for interpreting some of the texts. Shaykh Yūsuf (1626-1699) is considered a national hero of Indonesia and South Africa. His movements from Gowa South Sulawesi to other countries including the Middle East were motivated by his wish to deepen his understanding of Islamic mysticism. This was supported by his local teachers and the needs of Gowa Kingdom for a qualified Islamic scholar to convert its animistic society into real and fervent Muslims. This responsibility fostered in him a sense of bravery and adventure, and he ended up wandering around the world in search of knowledge. In their purpose to rule the East Indian countries and remove his influence over his fellow citizens, the Dutch banished Shaykh Yūsuf initially to Ceylon and then to Cape of Good Hope, South Africa (1684-1699). He left behind a large body of literary contributions, many of them still preserved at UB Leiden and the National Library of Jakarta. His Maṭālib al-Sālikῑn holds a special place among his literary contributions. It discusses three important issues that are illustrated with parables which should be understood by spiritual seekers; namely tawḥῑd, ma‘rifa, and „ibāda {Divine Knowledge, Divine Recognition and Worship]. They constitute a tree with leaves, branches, and fruit. Its practitioners are directed to the Oneness of God and to none other. These teachings have become a foundation of his reformist ideas and a basis to build his Islamic community in South Africa and finally to be implemented in his own ṣūfī order, Ṭarīqat al-Yūsufiyya/Khalwatiyyat al-Yūsufiyya. / Religious Studies and Arabic / D. A study of the origins, development and contemporary manifestations of Christian retreats

Jenkins, Hugh Peter 31 October 2006 (has links)
The dissertation is a study of the origins, development and contemporary manifestations of Christian retreats. It traces origins from the Biblical record until current retreats. Christian retreat is a period of withdrawal from usual activities to experience encounter with God through Christian prayer. Jesus' pattern of engagement in ministry and withdrawal is a vital basis for retreat. Other Biblical descriptions of retreat are studied. There is an examination of retreat experiences in Church history with a particular focus on monasticism, as a major expression of retreat life, and Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the modern retreat movement. Varieties of subsequent retreat types in the spiritualities of different traditions from the Protestant Reformation onwards are considered. The spectrum of study includes Protestant, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Pentecostal spiritualities. The study culminates in focusing on current Ignatian and other retreats in their many forms. This includes private devotions to lengthy periods of retreat. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M.Th. (Christian Spirituality)

El Housseini, Rhéa 01 1900 (has links)
The awakening of the question of Being was the great leitmotiv in Heidegger’s thought. This question does not exactly present a uniformity of formulation from Sein und Zeit to the last writings. In fact, if the main work of our thinker prepares the ground for a questioning of language and authentic speech, it does not yet explicitly link the problematic of Being to that of poetry. However, starting in the thirties, a turn will take place: poetry will become a privileged partner in the implementation of the question of Being. This tendency will become more radical in the subsequent decades, when the understanding of true language as poem will become increasingly focal. What lies behind this role allotted to poetic discourse in the work of Heidegger? What place has been reserved to the poetic saying in the larger frame of a philosophical hermeneutics directed towards the linguistic aspect of all existence? How shall one understand the link between a thought of the Ereignis, a quadripartite conception of the world and the foundation of Being through the saying of the poets? What parallels shall one draw between the respective tasks of the thinkers and poets in the context of an authentic dialogue? These questions will guide our journey and therefore trace the path for an interpretation with a particular emphasis on the privileged themes of the overstepping of traditional philosophy’s conceptual language, of the determining place of the Sacred and of the decisive responsibility of poets and thinkers in the project of the care of Being. Our aim will be to clarify the meaning of this recourse to poetry for a better understanding of how Heidegger has found in such a dialogue the conceptual resources that will fuel the momentum of his unique quest: an authentic approach of Being. The importance of this dialogue is indubitable: knowing that the history of metaphysics was characterized by the “forgetfulness of being” (Seinsvergessenheit), Heidegger thinks that another thought (das andere Denken) is still possible, but that it would have to unfold as a dialogue between thinking and poetry.

Boustany, Badih 08 1900 (has links)
To very few philosophers the history of the Western thought granted a place as significant as to Socrates: we quite naturally learn how to identify him as a hero of rationality and to recognize in him the very figure of the critical philosopher. In several respects, this representation of praise appears justified to us, although, from another point of view, it can make us sink in confusion, since our glance carries simultaneously, and like producing a contrast, on the image of Socrates obeying to the daimonion, his uncanny divine sign. How can we justify, starting from the Platonic corpus, both the engagement of Socrates with respect to rationality and his subordination to a seemingly irrational phenomenon? From this disconcerting question was born the present study which is thus devoted to the problem of the articulation between the relation of Socrates to the gods and his relation to the critical reason. More precisely, we sought to determine if there existed, on the epistemological level, a hierarchy between the daimonion and the method of rational investigation peculiar to Socrates, the elenchos. Such an exegetic study required, initially, a systematic and thorough analysis of the few passages related to the divine sign. We then adduced two paradigmatic solutions, that of G. Vlastos as well as that of T.C. Brickhouse and N.D. Smith. Lastly, we added to this second part besides a specific examination of Phaedrus and Timaeus, also a broad survey of the modes of divination, satisfying a triple aim: to make sense of the divine sign in comparison with the traditional art of mantic, to determine the role allotted by Plato to the reason in the divinatory process, and thus to be able to solve our principal question.

The Divine Comedy as a Source for the Poetry of T. S. Eliot

Ramos, Charles 08 1900 (has links)
In spite of the large amount of criticism written about T. S. Eliot, no attempt has been made to point out the great debt that Eliot owes to Dante Alighieri, and the pervasive influence of The Divine Comedy on Eliot's poetical works. This thesis endeavors to illustrate the extent of that debt and influence.
