Mediating urban identity : orality, performance and poetry in the work of Koos du Plessis.Eberle, Catherine. January 2002 (has links)
In this article I examine as mediations of urban experience poems written by Koos
du Plessis. a contemporary Afrikaans poet. together with their musical rendition by
Johannes Kerkorrel. a singer and musician from the Afrikaans altemative music
scene and former member of Die Gereformeerde Blues Band. The poetry was
initially published with musical arrangements in the volume Kinders van die Wind :
En Ander Lirieke (1981) . In order to use this material in an article produced as part
of an English study . I have translated the poetry into English . The translation (in
linguistic and performative terms) of these poems has the dual effect of rendering
them more appropriately for this study, and making them accessible to a wider
audience. I am concemed with the way poems written by a poet from an earlier
decade (the 1980s) interpret and mediate an urban identity and. further. with the fact
that performance not only gives them a new lease of life. but also transforms them
into works which have meaning and appeal for a more contemporary, broader
audience. The fundamental issues addressed in this poetry , namely a response to
and a negotiation of urban (South African) experience. continue to speak
compellingly today. / Thesis (M.A.)-University of Natal, Durban, 2002.

Prophetic Scribalism: A Semantic, Textual and Hypertextual Study of the Serek TextsStauber, Chad 13 August 2013 (has links)
This thesis challenges the position that the serek texts are primarily prescriptive and legal, as they have been customarily defined. It argues that the term serek should be reconceptualized according to descriptive analysis, with the purpose of creating what C. Newsom terms a ‘Gestalt structure.’ In order to achieve this, four serek texts (M, S, Sa, and D) will be analyzed at three literary levels—semantic, textual and hypertextual—explaining how the elements at these levels interact as cohesive wholes, thus serving to create a more complete picture of this group of texts as a literary unity. Thus, while the separate, constituent semantic, textual and hypertextual parts must be analysed as separate elements, the fundamental questions posed regarding these elements will be different in a Gestalt paradigm as compared to a traditional, definitional analysis. Going from the micro to the macro, the first chapter will look at the serek texts through the ‘microscope’ of close philological analysis, examining how the term serek functions atomistically within the Dead Sea Scrolls. Building upon these results, the second chapter will more broadly analyse the structure, themes and narrative apparent in the serek texts, thus creating a fuller understanding of how the serek texts relate to one another and respond to circumstances in community life. Finally, the last chapter seeks yet more broadly to understand the serek texts in the wider literary milieu of the Second Temple Period. Here, a scribal technique present in the serek texts will be compared to a similar technique used in the Book of Isaiah—arguably the most important prophetic work for the Qumran sectarians.

Pour une poétique du carnet dans la littérature française du XXe siècle / Poetics of the notebooks in the French literature of the 20th centuryHébert, Sophie Clémentine 09 December 2014 (has links)
Originally a medium of genesis, both textual and intellectual, an archetypal memory space, the notebook also develops, thanks to the specific writing conditions it favorises, the poetics of attention and regard from which « incident » (Barthes) style and seizure of the moment style emanate directly. The formal discontinuity that these styles create, World writing rather than writings of Self, seems, on the other hand, to encourage the poetics of the anti-journal – perceptible from both the metatextual and formal points of view. Moreover, in the notebook, specific and complex etha unfold, based upon subtle dialectics situated between the « in » and the « out ». Finally, the question of transforming a notebook into a book has to be asked, from the angle of publication as well as in it's reception : which editorial protocol should be priviledged ? What type of reader for a writer's notebook ?

Meaning construction in institutional business texts: voices confrontation and ideology.Tatiana Piccardi 17 December 1999 (has links)
Institutional business discourse has proved efficient in its legitimatory task of consolidating new worldviews and forms of acting in the world. In its apparent objectivity and homogeneity, institutional business discourse develops in a well articulated polyphonic game. In this game, the voice of a locator (L) - which represents the institutional voice - \"orchestrates\" the other voices that occur in the text in an attempt to erase those voices which move in an opposite direction relative to the argumentative orientation of the discourse. The argumentative direction of the discourse necessarily leads to the affirmation of a particular ideology. Institutional business discourse plays an important role nowadays, as one of the main allies of a renewed capitalism, which finds its basis in modern economic thinking informed by neoliberal discourse, the discourse of privatization, that of globalization, and those of standards of quality and preservation of the natural environment. Thus, it becomes necessary to better understand the conditions of its production, which presupposes unmasking the ideological basis that underlies institutional business discourse. On the basis of concepts derived from studies in the field of pragmatics, particularly those from Oswald Ducrots argumentative semantics, a number of institutional texts from certain private company were examined, with a view to investigating how the different voices featuring in such texts articulate with one another and by so doing legitimate an ideology that creates, maintains, and spreads particular types of meaning.

Literatura e representação social das mulheres em Cabo Verde: vencendo barreiras / Literature and social representation of the women in Cape Verde: overcoming barriersSonia Maria Alves de Queiroz 27 October 2010 (has links)
This dissertation analyses comparatively Cape Verdean texts of masculine and feminine authorship by the light of the subject Literature and social representation of the women in Cape Verde, with the objective to demonstrate how they build the historicity of women in that context, based on the approach gender and a hermeneutics of everyday women. Given the above, the readings have focused on female characters of the narratives, especially the protagonists in order to follow their paths of objects to historical subjects taking into account the complexity of the phenomenon of female emancipation in Cape Verde and coming a little late, but decisive , productions of women in the literary canon. We demonstrate in our research, such as male literary writings of António Aurélio Gonçalves, Baltasar Lopes, Manuel Ferreira, Oswaldo Osório Pires Teobaldo Virgínio and Virgílio Pires learns and presents women\'s realities, especially through the exhibition, while the female literary writings of Camila Mont-Rond, Dina Salústio, Fátima Bettencourt, Ivone Aída and Maria Margarida Mascarenhas and reveal female subjectivities that cast new visions and new cuts that dialogue the universe represented by the male perspective.

Inteligência práxis: estudo sobre o uso das tecnologias de informação para a gestão da análise do conteúdo de texto / Intelligence Praxis: study on the use of information technologies for the analysis of the management of the content of textsMelquizedek Fernandes dos Santos 08 February 2017 (has links)
The objective of this study was to present a new specialized software technology, called Intelligence Práxis (IP), for the management of content analysis of dissertations, reports and production indicators. This software demonstrates through linear graphs and the word cloud, the focus of the text under analysis. It also allows the visualization of the content, from the words contained in the text and transported to a data dictionary created by the related evidences, organizing and presenting to the researcher the proposed content as the basis of knowledge (Corpus). The software was implemented in Delphi programming language version 7 and for data storage the Absolute Database was used. The methodology used for the data analysis was the Delphi Methodology and the Fuzzy Logic. This technology brings an innovation in the analysis of the content of the texts consulted, demonstrating the consolidated image of the corpus focus, from the dictionary of contained and punctually related evidences. The mapping produced and the interpretation of the various indicators lead to a greater degree of accuracy in the analysis of the content contained in the document, inferring a better understanding of the diverse demands involved, revealed by the analysis, in the expectation of the best possible result. Thus, it can be concluded that the tool developed met the proposed objectives with efficiency and agility.

Analyse technique, textuelle et paléographique d'un Livre des morts inédit conservé au Musée du Vatican (Inv. n 38603) / Technical, textual and palaeographic analysis of an unpublished Book of the dead preserved in the Vatican Museum (Inv. No. 38603)Albert, Florence 08 April 2010 (has links)
The Papyrus Vatican inv. No 38603 is a hieratic Book of the Dead dated of the late period, coming probably from the city of Thebes and containing a number of textual and iconographic peculiarities. His comprehensive study is undertaken using a detailed presentation, a complete translation, a commentary on each of its component texts, a contextualization within the late documentation of the type and a paleography. These elements can highlight various aspects of Egyptian funerary beliefs of that time. On the other hand, they allow for closer dating of papyrus around 300 BC. and put the document in a specific context in strong relationship with religion and cults of Osiris that develop at Thebes since the Third Intermediate Period.

This dissertation aims to present the history and the results of the analysis of the activity: workshop for collaborative construction of multimodal texts in a virtual environment wiki, taught to 52 users of the Telecentro located at the Public Municipal Library Monteiro Lobato, in the city of São Paulo. Data were collected from June 2008 to February 2009. Using the precepts of activity theory (Leontiev, 1978; Engeström, 1997; Nardi, 1996) and especially the concept of contradictions, pointed out by that theory (Engeström, 1997), this research seeks to identify, classify and discuss the contradictions related to the linguistic, cognitive, social, cultural and technical aspects arising among the elements of the activity (subject, tools, object, rules, community and division of labor) during the workshop. The analysis done shows however, that teacher and students did not find solutions to all the contradictions that emerged. We conclude that this study\'s analysis of the contradictions of the activity was helpful for the detailed understanding of the relationship among the components of the activity, at all levels. An analysis of this importance should motivate and be followed by planning and implementing of a reformulation model that incorporates actions for change and innovation, and effectively, leading to expected results. Although the scope of this research did not allow it to be done, some suggestions on how one might do so in future research are outlined at the end of this study.
