When it comes to its program Not Quite Egnahemsfabriken is inspired by two already existing organizations/businesses: the art and crafts collective Not Quite located in Fengersfors, and the house building member organization Egnahemsfabriken located in Tjörn. Both businesses act in rural areas and are, through their practices, contributing to both environmental and social sustainability in their local society. The project aims to follow their lead in offering a space where people can bring matter into their own hands and together create the lives and environment (or things) they wish for without having to rely on bigger corporations or slow political decisions. The site for the project is a somewhat forgotten but interesting industrial park with big parts of the concrete slab making up the area left unused. Placing the project here gives the possibility to give the area a new direction and also the advantage of not having to occupy any virgin land. Architecturally the building is a play with the desire to discover as you move around the structure as well as a game of strictly holding onto the rules until you cannot anymore.

The people's (green) house is located in a disused industrial area in Torshälla, north of Eskilstuna. Because the place wascontaminated with heavy metals, the soil needed to be cleaned. My suggestion is to create a mix betweena "people's house" and a place for education while the purification process takes place. The reasonthat the building has been placed in the industrial area is to create a common ground, because the location before was completely closed and divided society. The aim is to reduce segregation and create a welcomingplace, for everyone.Through phytoremidation, the soil is cleaned with the help of plants. When the plants have taken up the metalsthey are harvested and incinerated so that the metals can then be recycled. Examples of plants thathave the property of clean soil are sunflowers, chives, barley, sarepta mustard, aspen and lupine. As with everythingthis process has both advantages and disadvantages. Because phytomemidation requires a long time spanI want the area to be able to develop with the process.The idea is to educate both the public and students about this process. The main construction isof wood while the greenhouse consists of steel and glass. Upstairs there is also a patio tosocialize, have a cup of coffee or relax. The building has various rooms and open spaces for studies, exhibitions,activity etc. To increase biodiversity, parts of the roof also consist of greenroofs where beekeeping is also available. / Folkets växthus ligger i ett nedlagt industriområde i Torshälla, norr om Eskilstuna. Då platsenförorenats av tungmetaller behövdes marken renas. Mitt förslag är att skapa en blandning mellanett ”folkets hus” och en plats för utbildning medan reningsprocessen sker. Anledningen tillatt byggnaden placerats i industriområdet är för att skapa en samlingsplats då platsen innan varithelt sluten och delat upp samhället. Syftet är att minska segregationen och skapa en välkomnandeplats, till för alla.Genom fytomremidering renas marken med hjälp av växter. När växterna tagit upp metallernaskördas de och förbränns för att metallerna sedan ska kunna återvinnas. Exempel på växter somhar egenskapet att rena mark är solros, gräslök, korn, sareptasenap, asp och lupin. Som med allthar denna process både fördelar och nackdelar. Eftersom fytomremidering kräver ett långt tidsspannvill jag att området ska kunna utvecklas med processen.Tanken är utbilda både allmänheten och studenter om denna process. Huvudkonstruktionen ärav trä medan växthuset består av stål och glas. På övervåningen finns även en uteplats till för attumgås, fika eller socialisera. I byggnaden finns diverse rum samt öppna ytor för studier, utställning,aktivitet mm. För att öka den biologiska mångfalden består även delar av taket av grönttak där biodling även finns.

Mitos is a proposition for a meditation center in Alberga in Eskilstuna municipality, Sweden. The meditation center offers room for temporary as well as longer stay for visiting guests enjoying the centers dance halls, yoga and meditation studios and saunas. Study spaces and the restaurant on the main entrance floor welcomes the slope buildings most public section. The meditation center also includes group therapy, light room therapy as well as an x-ray room for scientific research in the buildings fourth floor office space.  The slope placement and step-like descent of the building with recycled pale bricks adorned with sedum roofs aims to blend in with the landscape, yet make a powerful contrast by it's tempel reminiscence and squared Symmetry. The building gets its latin name Mitos from being seemingly divided into two equal parts by a 6 meter wide "stramp" (a stair with a diagonally crossing ramp), referencing the cell division phases. The stramp connects with entrances into the step-like building lower part. / Mitos är ett meditationscenter, wellnessretreat och delvis rehabiliteringscenter beläget i sluttningen av en kulle på en avsides väg som leder upp från Alberga Centrum och söderut påväg mot Stora Sundby slott (se situationsplan). Suterrängen har agerat inspiration till idén om en byggnad som i trappliknande avsatser stegvis faller nedför landskapet. Meditationscentrets plats är vidare i hänsyn av siktlinjer då utsikten med siluetten av slottet i förgrunden av Hjälmaren på motsatt sida, utgör en närmast idyllisk landskapskuliss. Valet av material i form av återbrukat tegel och sedumtak är med viss vinkning åt slottets stapplade bleka tegelbandsdetaljer. Sammantaget ämnar byggnaden smälta ihop med landskapet snarare än kontrastera det, även om dess tempelllika och monolitiska anspråk av utrymme oifrånkomligt sticker ut from naturens organiska former.  Sedumtaken är försedda med takbrunnar för dagvattenhantering och fasaderna med hålrumsbrickor. Det första taken vid entrén är belagt med platta solceller som komplement till bergvärme. De två likartade byggnaderna separeras av en trappa med en ramp som löper diagonalt mellan varje avsats med dörrar intill byggnaden via trappan. Trappan fyller en sammanbindande funktion i syfte att främja rörelsen genom landskapet. Samtidigt agerar den som en slags separerande faktor apropå byggnadens namn Mitos, celldelningsprocessen.

Just over six kilometers from Eskilstuna Centrum is a farm called Åsby Säteri. The fields are owned and leased out by a foundation, which means that Eskilstuna municipality has not been able to expropriate the land. The result has been a rural environment that lies like a wedge among Eskilstuna's suburbs. When a small forest in this area is attacked by spruce bark beetles, a group of 90s nostalgic and party-thirsty people from the district Hagnesta Hill see their chance. When the trees die, they either fall by themselves or are cut down and then left to rot. In this way, a sort of grove is created which, thanks to its proximity to the city, becomes the perfect refuge for the activities that gentrification and the increased premises rents have forced away. Throughout the process, I have mainly used urban concepts, such as "street", "backyard" and "square", as an aid in creating something in a place that has just died. The result has been that the project mimics something that it is not, namely a small piece of town. Due to this the rave house's facade has been, somewhat surprisingly, given a postmodern expression. Fortunately, this style fits quite well with 90s nostalgia. / Drygt sex kilometers cykelväg från Eskilstuna Centrum ligger en gård med tillhörande åkermark som heter Åsby Säteri. Marken ägs och arrenderas ut av en stiftelse vilket gjort att Eskilstuna kommun inte ́kunnat expropriera marken. Resultatet har blivit en rural miljö som ligger som en kil bland Eskilstunas för- orter.  När en liten skog i det här området angrips av granbarkborrar ser en grupp 90-talsnostalgiska och festtörstande människor från stadsdelen HagnestaHill sin chans. När träden dör faller de antingen av sig själva eller huggs ner för att sedan lämnas att förmultna. På så vis uppstår här en skogsglänta som tack vare sin närhet till staden blir den perfekta tillflykten för de aktiviteter som gentrifieringen och de ökade lokalhyrorna tvingat därifrån.  Genom hela processen har jag framför allt utgått från urbana begrepp så som ”gata”, ”bakgård” och ”torg”, som ett hjälpmedel i att skapa något på en plats som precis dött. Resultatet har blivit att projektet härmar något det egentligen inte är, nämligen en liten bit stad. Lite förvånande har följden blivit att framför allt rejvhusets fasad fått ett postmodernt uttryck, en stil som passar rätt bra ihop med 90-talsnostalgi.

The Yarn Factory is a factory that produces yarn made from algae. The project is located 20 kilometers southwest of Eskilstuna, near a small community called Lista. In a previous project the site was altered so that an old lake was restored to its former state and it is by the banks of this lake the project is located. The Yarn Factory utilises this lake to grow the algae for the yarn production. At the same time, the community does not have a place to gather today. The Yarn Factory will serve as a place for them but also outsiders to meet, learn and be inspired by innovations in the fabric industry, but also to come in contact with nature.  The project is built in wood with big glass elements to maximise the possibilities to look into the factory. Throughout the building there is a constant pull towards the water, which is a key feature in the project. It is divided into three different parts; the Peoples’ Centre, the factory and the staff part. They all come together in the middle where the factory divides itself which lets the visitor to be completely surrounded by the yarn making process. / Garnfabriken är en fabrik som tillverkar garn av alger. Projektet ligger ca 2 mil sydväst om Eskilstuna, nära ett litet samhälle som heter Lista. I ett tidigare projekt ändrades platsen och en gammal sjö återställdes till sitt tidigare skick. Det är vid denna sjö som projektet ligger då Garnfabriken använder sjön för att odla algerna till garnproduktionen. Samtidigt har bygden ingen plats att samlas på idag. Garnfabriken ska fungera som en plats för samhället och utomstående att träffas, lära sig samt inspireras av innovationer inom tygindustrin men också för att komma i kontakt med naturen. Projektet är byggt i trä med stora glaselement för att maximera möjligheterna att titta in i fabriken. Genom hela byggnaden finns en konstant riktning mot vattnet, vilket är en nyckelfunktion i projektet. Den är uppdelad i tre olika delar; Folkets Hus, fabriken och personalytor. De möts alla i mitten där fabriken delar sig vilket låter besökaren vara helt omgiven av garntillverkningsprocessen.

The building will create a meeting place for athletes who want to develop their knowledge in associated extreme sports. BX center should be a destination where development and training are in focus. The activities should feel both easily accessible and inclusive, while there is the opportunity for individual training opportunities. The building will not only attract residents around the area but also people outside Eskilstuna. The goal is for private individuals, companies and associations to be able to come overnight and use the property according to its own interests and sports investments. The building is divided into two levels plus a completely usable roof level. The roof level and entrance level are cast in place with organic curves that function as heights and separate the level in different areas or functions. Ground floor is flat on the ground and contains more public functions, such as exhibition spaces, auditorium, seminar room, restaurant and accommodation. Ground floor is more adapted to the athlete's needs with gym, changing rooms, physiotherapist, social areas, etc.The roof with its organic shapes will function as a huge skate park, which can be climbed in three places. At ground level there is a skate park, pump track, pakrour / trial track, motocross track, basketball court, volleyball court and trailer / mountain bike track. / Byggnaden ska skapa mötesplats för atleter som vill utveckla sina kunskaper inom tillhörande extremsport. BX center ska vara en destination där utveckling och träning är i fokus. Aktiviteterna ska både kännas lättillgängliga och inkluderande samtidigt som det finns möjlighet för individuella träningsmöjligheter. Byggnaden ska inte bara locka invånare runt omkring i området utan även personer utanför Eskilstuna kommun. Målet är att privatpersoner, företag och föreningar ska kunna komma övernatt och utnyttja fastigheten utefter dess egna intressen och idrottsliga satsningar.  Byggnaden är indelad i två plan plus ett helt användbart takplan. Takplanet och entréplan är platsgjutna med organiska kurvor som fungerar som höjder och skiljer av planen i olika områden eller funktioner. Markplan är platt på marken och innehåller mer offentliga funktioner, så som utställningsytor, aula, seminarierum, restaurang och boende. Markplan är mer anpassad utefter idrottarens behov med gym, omklädningsrum, sjukgymnast, sälskapsytor osv. Taket med sina organiska former ska fungera som en jättestor skatepark, som man kan ta sig upp på tre ställen. På marknivå finns det både skatepark, pumptrack, pakrour/trial bana, motorcrossbana, basketplan, volleybollplan samt trailer/mountainbike spår.

Lake Mälaren exhibition hall in Kvicksund. The short strait in Lake Mälaren is an important part of Lake Mälaren's history. The strait divides the town of Kvicksund into two parts, where one side is in the city of Västerås and the other in the municipality of Eskilstuna. The strait has long been a place where the two sides of Lake Mälaren are connected. The exhibition is about Lake Mälaren with a focus on the marine ecosystems but also about the environments around the shoreline. Where the exhibition both informs and teaches visitors in an interactive and educational way. The exhibition will make  the beautiful environments below the water surface accessible for the tourists, which is usually difficult to access for most people. Lake Mälaren exhibition hall is not only a tourist attraction but it was important that the local community was taken into account where the house should also be able to accommodate what is missing and in demand on the site. / Mälarens naturum i Kvicksund. Det korta sundet i Mälaren är en viktig del av Mälarens historia. Sundet delar tätorten Kvicksund i två delar där den ena sidan ligger i Västerås stad och den andra i Eskilstunas kommun. Sundet har länge varit ett ställe där de två sidorna av Mälaren kopplas samman. Kulturhuset och naturumet ligger strategiskt placerad på en halvö där vattnet är något som omringar byggnaden och ständigt finns i bakgrunden när man rör sig runt i byggnaden. I kulturhuset och naturumet finns utställningslokaler, konferens/ mötesrum, café samt lokaler för administrativa personal m.m. Utställningen berättar om Mälaren med fokus på det marina ekosystemen men också strandmiljöer runt vattnet. Där utställningen både informerar och undervisar besökarna på ett interaktivt och lärosamt sätt. Utställningen kommer tillgängliggöra det vackra miljöerna under vattenytan vilket i regel är svårtillgängligt för de flesta. Mälarens naturum är inte bara en turistattraktion utan det var viktigt att lokalsamhället togs i beaktning där huset också ska kunna inrymma det som saknas och efterfrågas på platsen. Med målet att det ska skapa delaktighet och förankring i lokalbefolkningen. Där huset också fungerar som ett kulturhus med lokaler som invånarna och föreningarna i Kvicksund och närliggande orter ska kunna nyttja.

Råby-Rekarne invites the rural communities of Eskilstuna to celebrate the important stages of life with the proposal of a new People's House. Råby-Rekarne is just one example of how the rural communities in the countryside of Eskilstuna seem to have formed around their local church as a gathering point throughout history. The 12th century church which Råby-Rekarne is build around has lost some of its unifying force as members are depleting and perhaps the use of churches are becoming less relevant today. This might call for a new outlook on how churches in small rural communities are going to be used. This proposal is an exploration of the issue and a recognition that People's Houses might be a successor to churches in terms of unifying and gathering people, especially in smaller communities. However, the proposal should not be viewed as a replacement to the church but rather an attempt at preserving social qualities that may be lost if churches are phased out due to depleted membership numbers or low capacity for larger gatherings. The main purpose is to find a way to share responsibilities with existing local establishments such as churches in order to preserve the foundation of local networks and thereby supporting natural growth in small communities. The People's House can be used either for entire ceremonies or for the gatherings that follow ceremonies performed by the church, such as wedding dinners, parties or coffee after funerals. / Folkets hus bjuder in hela Eskilstunas landsbygd till att fira livet från födseln till de sista ögonblicken. Mindre orter som Råby-Rekarne tycks ha uppstått kring sina kyrkor, här har den glesa befolkningen samlats och blivit grannar. Råby-Rekarne kyrka har funnits sedan 1100-talet och bebyggelsen runtomkring har återuppstått kring kyrkan flera gånger under dess livstid. Idag har kyrkan förlorat en del av sin samlande kraft och vi behöver en ny plats för gemenskap på landsbygden, samtidigt har kyrkan för många en betydelsefull roll i livets stora ögonblick. Kanske är det en roll som kyrkan kan dela med Folkets Hus om vi tillsammans kan bygga en plats som är till för livets alla steg, ett centrum för liv med plats för kultur, ceremoni, utbildning och firande. Kanske kan vi återuppliva kyrkans samlingskraft genom att också ta hand om det som sker efter ceremonin. På längre sikt kan projektet bidra till att Råby-Rekarne kan fortsätta vara en historiskt värdefull plats att bo på. Kyrkans roll som platsskapande, samlande och kulturbevarande riskerar att förloras om medlemsantalen fortsätter att sjunka. I stället får Råby-Rekarne en chans att bli centrum för de viktiga händelserna i livet, genom att arbeta tillsammans med och inte ta över kyrkans uppgifter öppnas verksamheten för fler. Folkets hus blir ett tillskott som förhoppningsvis kan leda till att viktiga historiska värden bevaras men även utnyttjas av en större målgrupp.

Kvicksund is located in north west Eskilstuna and is an area with very unique conditions. It's an area that is both divided by the lake Mälaren but also by two municipalities: Västerås in the north and Eskilstuna in the south. In this area you are surrounded by nature while still having access to communications such as trains. My proposal is to build a nursing home in Kvicksund, combined with both a preeschool and café to form a "Meeting point". The building is located near the center for the area with close proximity to the coast and the train station. By connecting the nursing home to a public building the public space is made available to those who have the most difficulty to reach it. Having elders not become isolated is very important and by activating the brain with different activities and new meetings the risk of dementia decrease. In the building there are three departments: one for people with dementia and two somatic departments. There's also a large dining room, living room, exercise room and multiple large courtyards located in and around the building. In the public area of the building there's an open preschool, a café and several common rooms. The building is organized in a way so that the nursing home has one side of the building and the preschool and the cafe have the other.  The two sides are connected by the common areas, this is to simplify different activities between the two sides. The preschool is the only one with a second story and the rest of the building is one story. It's design to be as accessible as possible and create a feeling of independence in the elderly as they can reach all premises without assistance. Personally, I have always gotten an anxious feeling at the thought of a home for the elderly and that is precisely my reason for designing one. This is not a place to skimp on and it is not a place for people to be hidden away in. This is a place which should be full of activities, joy and life! / Kvicksund ligger I nordvästra Eskilstuna och är ett område med väldigt unika förhållanden. Det är en plats som både delas av Mälaren men även mellan två kommuner: Västerås I norr och Eskilstuna I söder. Här finns både närhet till natur men även bra tillgänglighet I form av en egen tågstation.  Mitt förslag är att bygga ett äldreboende I Kvicksund med tillhörande ”mötescentrum”. Byggnaden är placerad centralt I området med närhet till kusten, det som idag är centrum och tågstationen. Genom att koppla äldreboendet till en offentlig byggnad tillgängliggör man det offentliga rummet för de som har det svårast att nå det. Att inte bli isolerad som äldre är väldigt viktigt och genom att aktivera hjärnan med olika aktiviteter och nya möten minskas risken för demenssjukdomar. I byggnaden placeras en demensavdelning och två somatiska avdelningar med stor matsal, vardagsrum, motionsrum och stora innergårdar. I den offentliga delen finns en öppen förskola, caféverksamhet samt ett flertal gemensamma rum. Byggnaden organiseras på det vis att äldreboendet har ena sida och förskolan och caféverksamheten har den andra. Mellan dem placeras de gemensamma ytorna för att förenkla olika gemensamma aktiviteter mellan verksamheterna. Endast förskolan har en övervåning och resten av byggnaden är I enplan. Allt för att göra den så tillgänglig som möjligt och skapa en känsla av självständighet hos de äldre då de kan nå alla lokaler utan assistans. Personligen har jag alltid fått en ängslig känsla vid tanken på äldreboenden och det är just därför jag valt att gestalta ett. Detta är inte en plats att snåla på och inte heller en plats som ska skuffas undan. Här ska det vara fullt av aktiviteter, glädje och liv!

A countryside with strong cohesion and good communications. A population with a strong commitment and willingness to develop together. A school in the absence of premises for practical subjects, a society in the absence of space for association life. A community forgotten by the municipality without investments and that are forced to go west and east to complete their lives. Gillberga Activity House is a gathering place for the whole village. The location at Gillberga School maximizes the opportunities for utilization of the building during all hours of the day. The majority of the activity rooms can be used by both students and the general public. Gillberga also gets excellent premises for a leisure center that finally gives young people something attractive to do outside of school hours. In the house we find halls for crafts, home and consumer studies and music which during the day become teaching rooms. The music hall can also be opened up to the school yard and used for concerts and school graduations. One level down, the flexible auditorium can be used for both cinema and theater as well as school graduations, music performances and as a public gathering place. The library is both a school and a public library and its meeting and conference rooms are free to use by Gillberg residents. Gillberga Activity House has the youth in focus at the same time as it connects generations in a long-awaited people's house. / En landsbygd med stark sammanhållning och bra kommunikationer. En befolkning med starkt engagemang och vilja att utvecklas tillsammans. En skola i brist på lokaler för praktiska ämnen, ett samhälle i brist på utrymmen för föreningsliv. Ett av kommunen bortglömt community utan satsningar som tvingas slussas västerut och österut för att komplettera sina liv. Gillberga aktivitetshus är en samlingsplats för hela byn. Placeringen på skolområdet vid Gillberga skola maximerar möjligheterna för utnyttjande av byggnaden under dagens alla timmar. Majoriteten av aktivitetslokalerna kan användas av såväl elever som allmänheten. Gillberga får dessutom utmärkta lokaler för en fritidsgård som äntligen ger ungdomarna något attraktivt att göra utanför skoltid. I huset finner vi slöjdsal, hemkunskapssal och musikrum som under dagtid blir undervisningslokaler. Musikrummet kan även öppnas upp mot skolans innergård och användas vid konserter och skolavslutningar. Ett plan ner kan den flexibla biosalongen användas för såväl bio och teater som skolavslutningar, musikframträdanden och som allmän samlingsplats. Biblioteket är såväl ett skol- som ett folkbibliotek och dess mötes- och konferensrum går fritt att använda av Gillbergaborna. Gillberga Aktivitetshus har ungdomen i fokus samtidigt som det knyter samman generationer i ett efterlängtad folkets hus.
