The project handles a lack of access to services and meeting places in Alberga, Eskilstuna. The community house will be the town´s new social and cultural center and the administrative base of a proposed agricultural cooperative whose purpose is to ensure good and sustainable access to high-quality food and create jobs and a sense of social cohesion. It will be a gathering place for all the residents of the town, an opportunity for the citizens to use the common areas according to their own needs. The building's functions should represent the cooperative's logic, which is why part of the production is located in the community house, which in this way becomes a significant workplace. As an important part of the cooperative activity is to conduct education and research, part of the site houses a representative experimental garden and lab, as well as an open preschool and study and office places. / Projektet syftar till att hantera brister i Alberga, Eskilstuna, såsom liten tillgång till service och tjänster, brist på sociala mötesplatser och aktiviteter. Kooperativhuset blir ortens centrum och administrativ bas för ett föreslaget jordbrukskooperativ vars syfte är att säkra en god och hållbar tillgång till högkvalitativa livsmedel, skapa arbetstillfällen och öka sammanhållningen på orten. Det blir en samlingsplats för alla ortens invånare, en möjlighet för medborgarna att själva utnyttja de gemensamma ytorna efter egna behov. Husets funktioner ska representera kooperativets logik, det är därför en del av produktionen förläggs till medborgarhuset som på så sätt blir en betydande arbetsplats. Då en viktig del av den kooperativa verksamheten är att bedriva utbildning och forskning föreslås också plats för en representativ experimentell trädgård och labb, samt en öppen förskola och studie- och kontorsplatser.

My degree project has been about converting an existing old industrial building into a youth centre. The buildings core focus is culture together with activity and learning. I wanted to use as much material as possible from the old building. Exterior walls and flooring are left almost untouched while a big part of the buildings construction with roof is changed. I made a new roof that could be used as a park.The building is situated close to the city centre of Eskilstuna, aswell as close to the southern suburbs where problems with segregation is an issue. My vision with Strömbrytaren was to make it a social hub, where youth from different backgrounds would meet and socialize. / Mitt examensprojekt har handlat om att omvandla en existerande gammal industribyggnad till ett ungdomshus. Byggnadens främsta fokus ligger på kultur tillsammans med aktivitet och lärande. Jag ville i mitt projekt använda så mycket av byggnadens befintliga material som möjligt. Exteriöra väggar och golv är i princip lämnade orörda medan en stor dela av byggnadens konstruktion och stomme tillsammans med tak är omgjort. Jag skapade ett nytt tak som kunde användas som en park.Byggnaden är situerad nära Eskilstuna centrum, samt de förorter som ligger söder om stadskärnan där segregation har blivit ett stort problem. Min vision med Strömbrytaren har varit att göra det till en social knytpunkt, där ungdomar från olika bakgrunder kan mötas och umgås.

For a long time, Lista-Gillberga has been a place where retired elders move to spend their last years in the fresh air in the countryside. Eskilstuna municipality's investment in expanding through new housing, population growth and a university means that the area could now have an increase ofyounger generations who want the proximity to the city of Eskilstuna but still want to feel the freedom of the countryside. This Community Center+ becomes one intergenerational institution, where both younger and older generations can meet and socialize. In addition to a part of the building that contains premises open to the public, the building contains a preschool with two departments, as well as a nursing home that includes 20 apartments. The premises that are open to the public are easily accessible to both the residents and the preschool children and here, for example, localassociations and other actors can activate the elderly and children in various activities. In addition to this, a common department is also provided for the nursing home and preschool. This contains a conservatory, open hangout area and studios specifically available for the residents and the children. An important driving force in this project lies in the fact that nursing homes should not just be a storage unit for the elderly during their final years of life. Research shows that contact between the elderly and children can contribute to strengthened mental health for the elderly and that symptoms of dementia can decrease. The elderly should experience the feeling of being needed and appreciated in society. They should be able to really live their lives to the fullest and not have to feel cut off from the outside world. Gillberga Generational can thus be seen as a hub for the residents of Lista-Gillberga where both older and younger people are welcomed and can socialize together. / Länge har Lista-Gillberga varit en plats dit pensionärer flyttar för att spendera sina sista år i frisk luft på landsbygden. Eskilstuna kommuns ’satsning på expandera genom nya bostäder, befolkningsökning och ett universitet innebär att området nu skulle kunna få en tillökning av yngre generationer som vill ha närheten till Eskilstuna stad men ändå känna friheten på landsbygden. Detta Folkets hus + blir en generationsöverskridande institution, där både yngre och äldre generationer kan mötas och umgås. Förutom en del av byggnaden som innehåller lokaler öppna för allmänheten innehåller byggnaden en förskola med två avdelningar, samt ett vård- och omsorgsboende som omfattar 20 lägenheter. De lokaler som är öppna för allmänheten är lättillgängliga för både de boende samt förskolebarnen och här skulle tillexempel lokala föreningar och andra aktörer kunna aktivera de äldre och barnen i olika aktiviteter. Utöver detta föreslås också en gemensam avdelning med vinterträdgård, allrum / myshörna och ateljéer specifikt tillgängliga för boendet och förskolan.  En viktig drivkraft i det här projektet ligger i att ett vård- och omsorgsboende inte bara ska bli en förvaring av äldre under deras sista år i livet. Forskning visar på att umgänge mellan äldre och barn kan leda till stärkt mental hälsa hos de äldre, att symptom på demens kan gå tillbaka samt ett allmänt gladare humör. De äldre ska få känna sig behövda och sysselsatta och på riktigt få leva livet fullt ut och inte behöva känna sig avskärmade från omvärlden. Gillberga Generational kan alltså ses som ett nav för invånarna i Lista- Gillberga där både äldre och yngre välkomnas och kan umgås ihop.

The plot is situated south of the small village Alberga in the south west of the municipality of Eskilstuna. The project is an example of how a landscape can be made accessible for people and through emotional conection be considered worth protecting, and at the same time offer a house for community. This is done with a House for the People - Folkets hus - together with a small spa inspired public bath with a fireplace in is center, and a research facility for conducting limnological and ecological research in the close marshy area and the lake Hjälmaren. The building is situated on top of three man made ponds, one new for the project, held upp by low pillars giving the house a floating impression. The architecture consists of a timber structure suported by rammed earth walls, the earth taken from the site when constructiong af a new pond. The three different usages of the program is separated into its own body and connecting them is a series of walkways, in some places suspended from the timber rafters. The project should... - Bring the community together in a flexible meeting place for many different activities- Preserv and strengthen a landscape´s ecology - Put a small village on the map and build a larger net of interconnectedness / Tomten ligger söder om den lilla byn Alberga i sydvästra Eskilstuna kommun. Projektet är ett exempel på hur ett landskap kan göras tillgängligt för människor och genom känslomässig koppling anses värt att skydda, och samtidigt erbjuda ett hus för gemenskap. Detta görs med en hybridbyggnad av ett Folkets hus tillsammans med ett litet spa-inspirerat bad med öppen spis i centrum samt en forskningsanläggning för att bedriva limnologisk och ekologisk forskning i det närliggande våtmarksmrådet och sjön Hjälmaren. Byggnaden ligger ovanpå tre konstgjorda dammar, en ny för projektet, hållna uppe av låga pelare som ger huset ett flytande uttryck. Arkitekturen består av en limträkonstruktion som bärs upp av stampade jordväggar, jorden hämtad från platsen vid anläggandet av en ny damm. On the northern shores of the recreated lake apal an isthmus protrudes spanning east and west. A road runs along the isthmus and from its center a leisure and culture-center spans out over the water. The isthmus protects the surrounding countryside from flooding during extreme rainfall as it is predicted by MSB. There is an outlet for water connecting lake Hjälmaren with lake Mälaren containing a concrete obstacle for wandering crayfish.The Center is dedicated to the restored lake and its environmental benefits and to the Noble Crayfish domestic in Sweden but now faced with extinction due to the invasive Signal crayfish. The center follows the gentle curvature of the isthmus, half of it resting on the isthmus the other half protruding out over the water. 896 thin piles made of reinforced concrete carries the building with rests on a concrete slab. Large glulam frames and CLT beams makes out the carrying construction of the building. A long room whose width expands and collapses during its course spanns the entire length of the building and it too follows the curvature of the isthmus. No doors lead directly out to the long room, all room-exits go in an east and west direction. Large windows overlook the lake from the central restaurant, dedicated to the homegrown crayfish. The interior walls, roof and floor is made upp by wooden planks following the curvature of the Center. The glulam frames are, although clad because of the climatic surrounding, visible on the buildings exterior walls and roof like ribbs. The roof and ribbs are matt black and the walls are falu-red. Public spaces look out over the lake while the interior service rooms face north to the road. Main entrances and exits are on the eastern and western side, while cargo-loading is located on the northern side accessible from the road. / Längs den återskapade Apalsjöns nord östra strand ringlar ett näs i ost västlig rikting. På näsets norra sida löper en väg och söder om vägen samt ut över vattnet sträcker sig ett hus vars långsmala kropp följer näsets konturer. Näset skapar en vattenbarriär och skyddar den omkringliggande åkermarken från de översvämningar som beskrivs på MSB´s katastrofkartor vid framtida extremväder samtidigt som vattenutsläppet garanterar fortsatt sammanbindning av Hjälmaren och Mälaren. Ett vandringshinder i betong för signalkräftor finns i vattenutsläppet. Det långsmala huset är ett Folketshusdistriktet och Naturum, dedikerat till den återskapade sjön och till den inhemska svenska flodkräftan. Flodkräftan, snart stöd i vilt tillstånd, odlas i anslutning till huset i dammar på näset, för konsumtion i restaurangen samt försäljning. Kräftyngel odlas för försäljning till omkringliggande lantbrukare för odling i egna dammar. 896 20•20 betongpelare bär upp betongplattan och utgör husets grund. Stora ramar i limträ, takbjälkar i kl-trä och kl-vägskivor utgör husets huvudsakliga bärande konstruktion. Limträramarna är synliga i husets fasad. Inklädda till skydd mot vädret spänner dom över byggnaden som revben. Taket och "revbenen" är mattsvarta och ytterväggarna målade faluröda. Halva huset vilar på näset och halva skjuter ut över sjöytan. Husets södra del utgörs av publika rum med generösa fönster som blickar ut över sjön. Den norra delen av byggnaden består av interna personalutrymmen, toaletter, teknikrum, vaktmästeri etc. Ett långt rum löper genom hela husets längd i öst-västlig riktning, ömsom ökandes i bredd, ömsom avsmalnande. Inga dörrar öppnas direkt mot detta rum utan alla dörrar öppnas åt öst eller väst. De publika ingångarna till huset finns på östra och västra kortsidorna, inläsning sker på nordsidan från vägen.

The project is located in Folkesta in Eskilstuna, an area that is characterized by a small-scale residential area in close proximity to a shopping area. Currently, there is a lack of cultural activities for children in the area and the building will therefore be an important cultural hub. The focus area of the building is cultural education in a wide variety of subjects such as dance, music and art, and there are also spaces for exhibitions and concerts. The building has a glulam construction, and the functions are arranged around a monumental concrete walkway that aims to create the impression of a cultural street. The roof of the house connects to a pedestrian bridge and inn addition to the building's internal functions, the outdoor environments are an important aspect in the design of a pleasant and safe area. The area around the house and under the bridge is provided with squares, parks, sculpture parks and outdoor activities that, in addition to their practical functions, also invite and activate the visitors. The hope is to create a meeting place for the residents and workers in the area but also to create a place for culture. / Projektet är placerat i området Folkesta i nordvästra Eskilstuna, ett område som kännetecknas av ett småskaligt bostadsområde i nära anslutning till en stor handelsplats. I dagsläget finns en avsaknad av kulturverksamheter för barn i området och byggnaden blir därför ett viktigt kulturellt nav för diverse kulturverksamheter. Kulturhusets främsta fokusområde är kulturutbildningar inom en stor variation av ämnen så som dans, musik och konst och därtill finns offentliga ytor för utställning och konserter. Byggnaden har en balkrostkonstruktion i limträ och byggnadens funktioner är ordnade kring en monumental betonggång som syftar till att skapa intrycket av en kulturell gågata. Husets tak ansluter till en gångbro för att bjuda in förbipasserande och skapar en parkmiljö på taket. Utöver byggnadens invändiga funktioner är utemiljöerna en viktig aspekt i utformandet av ett trivsamt och tryggt område. Området runt huset samt under bron förses med torg, park, skulpturpark och utomhusaktiviteter som utöver sina praktiska funktioner även bjuder in och aktiverar förbipasserande. Dessutom blir byggnadens tak en plats för vistelse, sport och musik. Förhoppningen är att skapa en naturlig mötesplats för de boende och arbetande i området men även att skapa en plats för kultur.

The project area Alberga is a locality in Eskilstuna municipality. This project is based on the Sustainable Development Goal 1 – No poverty, more particularly sub-goal 1:5 Build resilience to economic, social, and environmental disasters which partially is about achieving a higher degree of self-sustainability. In previous analyzes and survey of Eskilstuna municipality, we could identify that one of the main potentials for Eskilstuna’s countryside is the large areas of arable land, a prerequisite for self-sufficient food production. In this project, a community center building has been designed, combined with agriculture and a marketplace. The building is quite reserved towards the northern side and opens to the south with a view towards a community garden where vegetables, root vegetables and legumes are grown. In addition to the community center program, the building includes space for storage of the crops, storing garden tools, a marketplace and a restaurant that uses locally grown crops. The community garden is managed by the members of the agricultural cooperative who cultivate collectively and share the harvest. The excess of what is produced is sold on the market.  The construction of the building consists of three-part glulam frames that span 20 meters. Between the glulam frames, there are cross laminated timber elements and roof beams that stabilize the frame. The building has an integrated solar roof that produces energy that supplies the building. / Projektområdet är Alberga, en mindre tätort i Eskilstuna kommun. Detta projekt har utgångspunkt i Globala Mål 1 – Ingen fattigdom, närmare bestämt delmål 1:5 Bygg motståndskraft mot ekonomiska, sociala och miljökatastrofer, vilket bland annat handlar om att uppnå en högre grad av självförsörjning. I tidigare analyser och kartläggning av Eskilstuna kommun, kunde vi identifiera att ett av de främsta potentialen för Eskilstunas landsbygden är de stora areal åkermark, vilket är en förutsättning för självförsörjande matproduktion.  I detta projekt har ett folketshus-byggnad gestaltats, kombinerat med jordbruk och marknad. Byggnaden är ganska sluten mot den norra sidan och öppnar upp sig mot söder och blickar ut mot en gemensam odlingsträdgård där grönsaker, rotfrukter och baljväxter odlas. Utöver folketshusprogrammet innehåller byggnaden utrymme för lagring av skördarna, förvaring av trädgårdsredskap, försäljningsplats för närodlad mat samt en restaurang som använder sig av närodlade råvaror. Odlingsträdgården sköts om av medlemmar i odlingskooperativet som odlar kollektivt och delar på skörden. Överskott av det som produceras, säljs på marknaden.  Byggnadens konstruktion utgörs av treledsramar i limträ som spänner 20 meter. Mellan limträramarna finns KL-träelement och takbalkar som stabiliserar stommen. Byggnaden har ett integrerat solcellstak som producerar energi som kan försörja byggnaden.

The proposal aims to build on Eskilstuna municipality's work with circular ideas about sustainability to create a lively community house with focus on cultivation and creativity. By utilizing garden waste and processing it into biochar used in both large- and small-scale cultivation, carbon dioxide is bound in the soil for thousands of years.  The biochar binds nutrients and water and provides an improved harvest. The design takes inspiration from the character of the place with it’s traditional red colored cultivation boxes and the red cycle bridge across the creek. The idea of a historic warehouse building (magasin) as a flexible basic structure emerged and has led to an exploration of how to give the typology a public character. The goal was to create a place where young and old could cultivate their interest in agriculture and culture, and in the long run encourage own food production as a driving factor in achieving a more climate-smart and resilient society. / Förslaget syftar till att bygga vidare på Eskilstuna kommuns arbete med cirkulära idéer om hållbarhet för att skapa ett levande folkets hus med fokus på odling och kreativitet. Genom att ta tillvara på trädgårdsavfall och förädla detta till biokol, som används i både stor- och småskalig odling, binds koldioxid i marken i tusentals år samtidigt som kolet binder näring och vatten och ger en förbättrad skörd. Gestaltningen tar avstamp i de faluröda odlingslådorna och platsens karaktär. Idén om en magasinsbyggnad som en flexibel grundstruktur dök upp och har lett vidare till ett utforskande av hur man ger typologin en offentlig karaktär. Målet är att skapa en plats för stora och små med fokus på växande och odling som ska uppmuntra till egen produktion av livsmedel, som en drivande faktor för att uppnå ett mer klimatsmart och motståndskraftigt samhälle.

The aim of this project was to develop a public hybrid building in the countryside of Eskilstuna and create an active meeting place that is open to the public. Kvicksund is a town in the northern part of Esklistuna and is the chosen area for this project. Kvicksund Sports and Cultural Center is a multi-facility for both sports and culture. There is already a large sports ground with several football fields and a large golf course in that area. These outdoor activities are complemented by the new indoor activities and create a non-commercial meeting place combined with leisure facitilies, exhibition opportunities, a restaurant and a café. This type of a grand meeting place can contribute to improved social sustainability in Kvicksund. / Målet med detta projekt var att utveckla en offentlig hybridbyggnad i Eskilstunas landsbygd och skapa en aktiv mötesplats som är öppen för allmänheten. Kvicksund är en ort i den norra delen av Esklistuna kommun och är det valda området för detta projekt. Kvicksund Idrotts– och Kulturhus är en multianläggning för både idrott och kultur. I området finns redan en stor idrottsplats med ett flertal fotbollsplan samt en stor golfbana. Dessa utomhusaktiviteter kompletteras med de nya inomhusaktiviteterna och skapar en icke-kommersiell mötesplats kombinerad med fritidslokaler, utställningsmöjligheter, restaurang och café. En sådan större mötesplats kan bidra till en förbättrad social hållbarhet i Kvicksund.

Backen is a kindergarten with intriguing learning through a museum and nature space. It is located in Sundbyholm, a place just outside Eskilstuna.Sundbyholm is a cozy and nice place, it has a lot of attractions. There is a trotting track, castles, boat docks, nature areas and homes. There are not many community functions nearby and you can get there by car, it has recently built a bike path that goes along the main road. For Sundbyholm to be able to grow and families with children to want to live in the area, schools, preschools and grocery stores are needed. I chose to do a preschool as the nearest one today is 11 km away. Something that was important for the people who live there is their nature and to take care of the nature that exists. There are primarily fields nearby and some forest. I wanted to build in the middle of the forest to get close to as many homes as possible in the development I saw the homes grow. With that said, I did not want to take anything from nature but get the building to interact and maybe contribute to the landscape with its green roof and large windows into the greenhouse. The building is made of wood with a porridge roof that serves as a park for visitors and the kindergarten. There is a large full-grown tree in the middle of the building that is there to preserve the forest but also put it in the center. The façade is made of wood that is wrapped in squares, which makes it resemble a cone and blends in nicely with the pines. the idea is that the preschool and the nature museum would collaborate and help each other in learning and caring for plants. The children get to learn about nature and cultivation. / Backen är en förskola med intrigerat lärande genom ett museum och naturrum. Det är placerat i Sundbyholm, ett område strax utanför Eskilstuna.Sundbyholm är ett mysigt och trevligt ställe, det har en massa attraktioner. De finns bla. en travbana, slott, båtbryggor, naturområden och bostäder. Det finns inte många samhällsfunktioner i närheten och man får ta sig dit med bil, det har nyligen byggt en cykelbana som går längst den stora vägen. För att Sundbyholm ska kunna växa och barnfamiljer ska vilja bo i området behövs det skolor, förskolor och livsmedelsaffärer. Jag valde att göra en förskola då den närmaste idag är 11 km bort. Något som var viktigt för folket som bor där är deras natur och att ta vara på naturen som finns. Det är primärt åkrar i närheten och lite skog. Jag ville bygga i mitten av skogen för att få närhet till så många bostäder som möjligt i den utveckling jag såg bostäderna växa. Med det sagt så ville jag inte ta något från naturen utan få byggnaden att samspela och kanske bidra till landskapet med sitt gröna tak och stora fönster in till växthuset. Byggnaden är gjord i trä med ett gröt tak som fungerar som en park för besökare och förskolan. Det står ett stort fullvuxet trä i mitten av byggnaden som är till för att man ska bevara skogen men också sätta den i centrum. Fasaden är av trä som ligger omlott i fyrkanter, det gör att den påminner om en kotte och smälter fint in med tallarna. tanken är att förskolan och naturmuseet skulle sammarbeta och hjälpa varandra i lärande och skötande av plantor. barnen får lära sig om natur och odling.
