Entretanto, existe uma lacuna no que se refere a HPE ambulatorial e ainda n?o ? conhecido se os modelos de EIAI de baixo volume s?o capazes de reduzir a press?o arterial (PA) ambulatorial em normotensos. Objetivo: investigar o efeito de uma sess?o de EIAI de baixo volume sobre a PA ambulatorial de normotensos. M?todos: vinte e um homens normotensos (23,6 ? 3,6 anos; 23,5 ? 2,3 kg/m2; PA de repouso 111,1 ? 6,4 / 62,4 ? 6,1 mmHg) realizaram: (i) teste incremental m?ximo; (ii) sess?o EIAI e controle (sem exerc?cio) em ordem randomizada. O EIAI consistiu de 10x60s a 100% da velocidade m?xima atingida no teste de esfor?o intercalado com 60s de recupera??o passiva. Os sujeitos permaneceram 20h com o aparelho de Monitoriza??o Ambulatorial da Press?o Arterial (MAPA). Foram avaliadas 13h de vig?lia e 7h de sono. O teste t de Student pareado foi utilizado para comparar a PA sist?lica e diast?lica entre as sess?es controle e EIAI. A ANOVA two-way (condi??o vs. tempo) foi usada para comparar a PA ambulatorial hora a hora ap?s as sess?es controle e EIAI. Resultados: a PA sist?lica no per?odo de 20h de an?lise reduziu 2,8 ? 3,7 mmHg e a PA diast?lica reduziu 1,7 ? 3,5 mmHg ap?s a sess?o de EIAI em rela??o ? sess?o controle (p<0,05). No per?odo da vig?lia, a PA sist?lica reduziu 3,2 ? 3,7 mmHg e a PA diast?lica 1,8 ? 3,9 mmHg ap?s a sess?o de EIAI em rela??o ? sess?o controle (p<0,05). N?o houve diferen?a na PA sist?lica e diast?lica durante o per?odo do sono (p>0,05). A ANOVA two-way demostrou que a PA sist?lica foi menor nas primeiras cinco horas ap?s a sess?o EIAI comparada a sess?o controle [delta m?nimo: -3,2 mmHg; delta m?ximo: -4,8 mmHg (p<0,05)]. Conclus?es: uma sess?o de EIAI de baixo volume reduziu a PA na vig?lia e no per?odo de 20h em normotensos. A hipotens?o em maior magnitude ocorrida nas primeiras cinco horas p?s-exerc?cio parecer explicar a redu??o da PA na vig?lia e no per?odo de 20h. / Introduction: Previous research have already shown the occurrence of post-exercise hypotension (PEH) after ~60 minutes of high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) in normotensive subjects. However, there is a gap with regard to ambulatory PEH and it is not yet knowns if the low-volume HIIE reduces ambulatory blood pressure (BP) in normotensive subjects. Objective: To investigate the effect of a single session of low-volume HIIE on ambulatory BP in normotensive subjects. Methods: Twenty-one normotensive males (23.6 ? 3.6 years, 23.5 ? 2.3 kg/m2, resting PA 111.1 ? 6.4 / 62.4 ? 6.1 mmHg) performed: (i) maximum incremental test; (ii) HIIE and control sessions in a randomized order. The HIIE consisted of 10x60s at 100% of maximal velocity interspersed by 60s of passive recovery. The paired sample t-test was used to compare systolic and diastolic BP between control and HIIE sessions. A two-way ANOVA (condition vs. time) was used to compare the ambulatory BP response hour to hour following the control and HIIE sessions. Results: Systolic BP in the 20-hour analysis reduced 2.8 ? 3.7 mmHg and diastolic BP reduced 1.7 ? 3.5 mmHg after the HIIE session compared to the control session (p<0.05). In the awake period, systolic BP decreased 3.2 ? 3.7 mmHg and diastolic BP 1.8 ? 3.9 mmHg after the HIIE session compared to the control session (p<0.05). There was no difference in the systolic and diastolic BP during the asleep period (p> 0.05). The two-way ANOVA demonstrated that systolic BP was lower in the first five hours after the HIIE session compared to the control session [minimum delta: -3.2 mmHg; maximum delta: -4.8 mmHg (p <0.05)]. Conclusion: A single session of low-volume HIIE reduces ambulatory BP in normotensive. The greater magnitude of hypotension during the first five hours post-exercise seems to explain the BP reduction in 20h and awake periods.

Nesse sentido, o treinamento muscular inspirat?rio (TMI) pode ser uma boa alternativa para complementar a tradicional terapia medicamentosa. Objetivo: Avaliar a efetividade e seguran?a do TMI em indiv?duos com asma. M?todos: Trata-se de ensaio cl?nico randomizado, duplo-cego. A amostra foi composta por 29 indiv?duos asm?ticos divididos em dois grupos: 14 participantes do grupo com carga leve (C15%) e 15 no grupo de treinamento com carga moderada (C50%). O TMI foi realizado 5 dias por semana, durante 6 semanas, com aparelho POWERbreathe?. As sess?es consistiram de 30 repeti??es duas vezes por dia. Os indiv?duos do C15% treinaram com carga de 15% da press?o inspirat?ria m?xima (PIm?x), enquanto o C50% treinou com 50% da PIm?x. Inicialmente, os participantes foram submetidos a avalia??es da fun??o pulmonar. Em seguida, foram aplicados o Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ, Question?rio de Qualidade de Vida em Asma) e Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ, Question?rio de Controle da Asma). A for?a muscular respirat?ria foi obtida pela PIm?x e pela press?o expirat?ria m?xima (PEm?x). Foram avaliados ainda o n?vel de dispneia antes e ap?s o teste da caminhada de 6 minutos (TC6), atrav?s da escala de Borg CR10, e a capacidade funcional pela dist?ncia percorrida no TC6 (DTC6). Por fim, um di?rio de treinamento foi utilizado para registro de eventos adversos e ades?o as sess?es de TMI. As avalia??es foram realizadas no in?cio do estudo, ap?s 6 semanas de treinamento e seis semanas ap?s a cessa??o do treinamento. Resultados: Ap?s 6 semanas de TMI, a PIm?x aumentou 20,7 cmH2O e 33,1 cmH2O nos grupos C15% e C50%, respectivamente. A PEm?x mostrou um ganho de 10,4 cmH2O no grupo C50% e 8,1 cmH2O no grupo C15%. No AQLQ, foi observada uma prov?vel melhora cl?nica (acima de 0,5) em dois dom?nios (limita??o de atividade e fun??o emocional) no grupo C15% e em todos os dom?nios no grupo C50%. No grupo C50%, houve ainda uma potencial redu??o de 1,13 e 1,42 pontos na escala de Borg CR10 antes e ap?s o TC6, respectivamente. Ao final do TMI, n?o houve diferen?a no controle da asma, DTC6 e fun??o pulmonar para ambos os grupos. Durante o per?odo de treinamento, nenhum volunt?rio foi hospitalizado ou admitido em um servi?o de emerg?ncia, nem houve relato de crise asm?tica devido ao TMI. A ades?o ao TMI n?o foi analisada, uma vez que a grande maioria dos participantes n?o registraram as sess?es realizadas no di?rio de treinamento. Seis semanas ap?s a cessa??o do TMI, apenas 31% dos participantes retornaram para a avalia??o. Assim, n?o foi poss?vel incluir os efeitos da reversibilidade do treinamento em nossos resultados. Conclus?es: Em indiv?duos com asma, o TMI domiciliar com carga leve e moderada mostrou-se seguro e eficaz para aumentar a for?a dos m?sculos respirat?rios e melhorar a qualidade de vida. Al?m disso, o treinamento com carga moderada reduziu o n?vel de dispneia. / Background: Asthma is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the world and is considered a serious public health problem. Asthma treatment is based on achieving and maintaining adequate disease control. However, in "real life", suboptimal control of asthma is frequent. In this sense, inspiratory muscle training (IMT) may be a good alternative to complement traditional drug therapy. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the IMT in people with asthma. Methods: This was a double-blind randomized controlled trial. The sample consisted of 29 people with asthma divided into two groups: 14 participants in the low load group (L15%) and 15 in the moderate load group (L50%). IMT was performed 5 days a week for 6 weeks with POWERbreathe? device. The sessions consisted of 30 repetitions twice a day. The L15% group trained with a load of 15% of maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), while L50% group trained with 50% of MIP. Initially, the participants were submitted to pulmonary function assessments. Then, the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) and Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ) were applied. Respiratory muscle strength was obtained by MIP and by maximal expiratory pressure (MEP). The Borg CR10 scale and the distance walked in six-minute walk test (6MWD) were used to assess degree of dyspnea and functional capacity, respectively. Finally, a training diary was used to record adverse events and IMT adherence. Assessments were performed at baseline, after 6 weeks of training and six weeks after cessation of training. Results: After 6 weeks of IMT, MIP increased 20.7 cmH2O and 33.1 cmH2O in the L15% and L50% groups, respectively. MEP showed a gain of 10.4 cmH2O in the L50% group and 8.1 cmH2O in the L15% group. AQLQ showed a probable clinical improvement (above 0.5) in two domains (limitation of activity and emotional function) in the L15% group and in all domains in the L50% group. In the L50% group, there was a potential reduction of 1.13 and 1.42 points on the Borg CR10 scale before and after the 6MWT, respectively. At the end of the IMT, there was no difference in asthma control, 6MWD and pulmonary function for both groups. During the training period, no volunteers were hospitalized or admitted to an emergency department, nor was there an asthmatic crisis due to IMT. Adherence to IMT was not analyzed, since the majority of participants did not record the sessions performed in the training diary. Six weeks after cessation of IMT, only 31% of participants returned for evaluation. Thus, it was not possible to include the effects of training reversibility on our results. Conclusions: In individuals with asthma, home IMT with a low and moderate load proved to be safe and effective in increasing respiratory muscle strength and improving quality of life. In addition, moderate-load training reduced the level of dyspnea.

A amostra foi composta por 63 idosos. O grupo controle - GC (n=33) recebeu orienta??es de cuidados com o joelho e foi recomendado que realizasse caminhadas. O grupo interven??o - GI (n=30), al?m das mesmas orienta??es, participou de um programa de exerc?cios domiciliares. A dor (EAV), a funcionalidade (teste TUG - Timed Up and Go), a for?a muscular (1RM), a ADM (goniometria) e a severidade dos sintomas da doen?a (question?rio WOMAC - Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index) foram avaliados antes e ap?s o per?odo de interven??o de 12 semanas. Resultados: A amostra teve m?dia de idade de 70,32?6,56 anos, 81% era do sexo feminino, 69,8% da ra?a branca, 82,5% com sobrepeso/obesidade e 74,6% apresentava grau 2 ou 3 de OA. Ap?s a interven??o, o GI apresentou melhora significativa em todas as vari?veis em compara??o com o GC, que n?o apresentou altera??es (EAV P= 0,01; TUG P= 0,03; 1RM extens?o e flex?o P< 0,001; ADM extens?o P= 0,001; ADM flex?o P= 0,011; WOMAC total P< 0,001). Thus, it is essential to promote healthy aging or asset, maintenance and improvement of functional capacity, disease prevention, and improve the quality of life for seniors. The physical exercise corresponds to non-pharmacological strategy used in the treatment and control of cardiovascular indicators, as well as improvement in the quality of life of seniors. This study focuses on the role of exercise in controlling cardiovascular and predictors of these perceptions, under the qualitative point of view of these seniors. In this method was applied a quantitative and qualitative longitudinal study at an exploratory and descriptive level that was realized with the participation of elderly, greater than or equal to 60 years old, participants of elderly groups from FEFID-PUCRS and CEUVF-PUCRS ambulatory, in the period from March 2011 to January 2012. Analyzes were performed using Student's t test, from Mann Whitney, chi-square test from Pearson and Fisher's exact test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson's correlation with a significance of 5%. One hundred and eight participants were investigated, distributed evenly among the groups who exercise regularly (n = 54) and those who do not exercise (n = 54). After interviews and a content analysis, it was observed that the non-practicing group did not exercise regularly because of lack of orientation and time, and the presence of disease was also detected as a relevant factor. On the other hand, the practicing group exercised because of their health and in order to have better quality of life. Female sex was predominant in the groups, and less schooled non-practitioners had smaller monthly income than the practitioners (p<0.001). It was significant among the practitioners: the circumference of (p<0.01); hip perimeter, (p<0.05); PAS averages (final: p&#8804;0.001), and PAD (final: p<0.001). The non-practitioners showed: average weight (p<0.05), higher IMC (p<0.001), subscapular measure (p<0.01) FR (final: p&#8804;0.05) and FC (final: p&#8804;0.05), where final averages demonstrated to be higher than the initial ones. Related to the domains by Whoqol Breff between the groups, it was significant the physical domain among the practitioners p<0.05); in Whoqol Old, in the group of practitioners domains PPF, PS, and AUT were significant; however, in the non-practicing group they were FS and MM (p<0.001). We conclude that the practice of regular exercise plays an important role in controlling cardiovascular indicators in elderly, providing them with better quality of life, and psychosocial activities improve self-esteem in older adults who do not exercise regularly / A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo estudar as diferen?as entre os indicadores cardiovasculares (PAS, PAD, FR, FC, IMC e per?metros) com a pr?tica de exerc?cios f?sicos regulares com idosos ativos participantes de programa supervisionado de exerc?cios f?sicos regulares e n?o participantes, relacionando a sua percep??o de qualidade de vida, sa?de e modifica??o de estilo de vida. Assim, ? fundamental a promo??o do envelhecimento saud?vel ou ativo, a manuten??o e a melhoria da capacidade funcional, a preven??o de doen?as, al?m de melhorar a qualidade de vida dos idosos. A pr?tica de exerc?cios f?sicos corresponde ? estrat?gia n?o farmacol?gica utilizada no tratamento e controle de indicadores cardiovasculares, bem como na melhora na qualidade de vida de idosos. Este estudo foca o papel dos exerc?cios no controle destes preditores cardiovasculares e suas percep??es, sob o ponto de vista qualitativo nestes idosos. No m?todo foi aplicado o estudo quantiqualitativo longitudinal, em n?vel explorat?rio-descritivo, realizado com a participa??o de idosos, com idade igual ou superior a 60 anos, participantes do grupo de idosos da FEFID-PUCRS e do Ambulat?rio CEUVF-PUCRS, no per?odo de mar?o/2011 ? janeiro/2012. Foram realizadas an?lises utilizando teste t-Student, de Mann Whitney, testes Qui-quadrado de Pearson e Exato de Fisher, an?lise de vari?ncia (ANOVA) e correla??o de Pearson com signific?ncia de 5%. Participaram dessa pesquisa cento e oito investigados, distribu?dos de forma homog?nea entre os grupos que praticam exerc?cios regularmente (n=54) e os que n?o praticam atividade f?sica (n=54). Ap?s entrevistas e an?lise de conte?do, observou-se que o grupo n?o praticante n?o se exercita regularmente em fun??o da falta de tempo e de orienta??o e a presen?a de doen?a tamb?m ? um fator relevante. J? o grupo de praticantes se exercita em fun??o da sa?de e para ter uma qualidade de vida melhor. Predominou o sexo feminino nos grupos, os n?o praticantes menos escolarizados tinham menor renda mensal que os praticantes (p<0,001). Entre os praticantes foi significativo: circunfer?ncia da (p<0,01); per?metro do quadril, (p<0,05); as m?dias de PAS (final: p&#8804;0,001), e PAD (final: p<0,001). Os n?o praticantes apresentaram: peso m?dio (p<0,05), IMC mais elevados (p<0,001), medida subescapular (p<0,01) FR (final: p&#8804;0,05) e FC (final: p&#8804;0,05), onde as m?dias finais mostraram-se maiores que as iniciais. Quanto aos dom?nios do Whoqol Breff entre os grupos, foi significativo o dom?nio f?sico entre os praticantes p<0,05); no Whoqol Old, no grupo de praticantes foram significativos os dom?nios PPF, PS, e AUT; j? no grupo n?o praticante foram FS e MM (p<0,001). The oxidative stress may cause an increase in the protein damages and trigger possible changes and inflammations, as well as contribute to the development of many diseases, such as neurodegenerative. Doing physical exercises may increase the tolerance of the tissue, related to the damages, caused by oxidative stress, as well as the enzymatic defenses. Objective: evaluate the effect of the regular and oriented physical exercises, considering cognitive and plasmatic parameters of the oxidative stress and antioxidant defenses. Methodology: there were 28 elderly individuals that participated in the study, that were divided in two experimental groups: the elderly group that was not doing any oriented physical activity (n=11) and the other group that was doing an oriented physical activity (n=17). Instruments for screening dementia, such as Mini Mental State Examination, for depression, the Beck Scale for Depression, the International Physical Activities Questionnaire, to get data related to daily physical exercise, and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, to evaluate the working memory, were used in this study. Blood was collected, in order to analyze the oxidative stress as well as the antioxidant markers. Results: groups did not show any relevant differences, considering age, education and social and economic aspects, as well as in the scores of the instruments for screening depression and dementia. Any significant differences between the two groups, related to the body mass, caloric content, protein, lipid, carbohydrate, and diet vitamins A, were verified. Since any relevant differences were seen between the two groups in the oxidative stress and cognitive performance parameters, all the volunteers, who participated of the study, were gathered in only one group, in order to verify the possible relations between those variables. Thus, linear regressions were performed, considering, as predictor variables, the lipid peroxidation, the protein damage and the total antioxidant activity, and, as dependent variables, the scores that were gotten in each one of the neuropsychological tests. The only statistically relevant result [p=0.011] found was the relation between the total antioxidant activity and the number of perseverative errors in WCST [B= - 0.71]. Conclusions: there were not verified any significant differences between the groups, probably because the difference of the level of the physical activity was very small. In future studies, a higher number of volunteers and groups, with marked differences between the level of the physical exercises, should be added as well as some physiological parameters, to identify the level of the physical activity that was performed and observe their effect on the cognitive aspects and plasmatic parameters of oxidative stress and the antioxidant defenses, and verify their possible association to elderly people and their cognitive integrity / Introdu??o: a Teoria do Estresse Oxidativo sugere que, ao longo da vida, ocorre o ac?mulo de radicais livres, produzidos pela mitoc?ndria, gerando um desequil?brio progressivo entre sistema pr?-oxidante e antioxidante. O estresse oxidativo pode causar um aumento de danos proteicos e gerar poss?veis muta??es e inflama??es, assim como contribuir para o desenvolvimento de diversas doen?as, entre as quais as neurodegenerativas. A pr?tica de exerc?cio f?sico pode melhorar a toler?ncia tecidual aos danos causados pelo estresse oxidativo e aumentar as defesas enzim?ticas. Objetivo: avaliar o efeito do exerc?cio f?sico regular e orientado sobre aspectos cognitivos e par?metros plasm?ticos de estresse oxidativo e defesas antioxidantes. Metodologia: participaram deste estudo 28 indiv?duos idosos que foram divididos em dois grupos experimentais: o grupo de idosos sem atividade f?sica orientada (n=11) e o grupo com atividade f?sica orientada (n=17). Foram utilizados instrumentos de rastreio de dem?ncias, como Mini Exame do Estado Mental, e de depress?o, como a Escala de Depress?o de Beck, Question?rio Internacional da Atividade F?sica, para o levantamento de dados sobre a pr?tica di?ria de exerc?cio f?sico, Teste de Cartas de Wisconsin, para avaliar a fun??o executiva, e a tarefa de Span de D?gitos, para avaliar a mem?ria de trabalho. Foi realizada uma coleta de sangue para a avalia??o dos marcadores do estresse oxidativo e das defesas antioxidantes. Resultados: os grupos n?o apresentaram diferen?as significativas em rela??o ? idade, escolaridade e n?vel socioecon?mico, assim como nos escores dos instrumentos de rastreio de depress?o e dem?ncia. Tamb?m n?o foram observadas diferen?as significativas entre os grupos no ?ndice de massa corporal e no conte?do cal?rico, prot?ico, lip?dico, de carboidratos e vitaminas A da dieta. Uma vez que n?o foram identificadas diferen?as significativas entre os grupos nos par?metros de estresse oxidativo e desempenho cognitivo, reunimos todos os volunt?rios do estudo em um ?nico grupo, de forma a verificar poss?veis rela??es entre estas vari?veis. Desta forma, realizamos regress?es lineares, considerando, como vari?veis preditoras, a peroxida??o lip?dica, o dano prot?ico e a atividade antioxidante total e, como vari?veis dependentes, os escores obtidos em cada um dos testes neuropsicol?gicos. O ?nico resultado estatisticamente significativo [p=0.011] encontrado foi a rela??o entre a atividade antioxidante total e o n?mero de erros perseverativos no WCST [B= - 0.71]. Conclus?es: n?o encontramos diferen?as significativas entre os grupos provavelmente em fun??o de a diferen?a de n?vel de atividade f?sica praticada entre eles ser muito pequena. Estudos futuros deveriam utilizar um n?mero maior de volunt?rios e grupos com diferen?as mais marcantes entre os n?veis de exerc?cio f?sico praticado, al?m de inclu?rem alguns par?metros fisiol?gicos para a determina??o do grau de exerc?cio f?sico realizado e, assim, observar, com maior clareza, o efeito do mesmo sobre aspectos cognitivos e par?metros plasm?ticos de estresse oxidativo e defesas antioxidantes e as suas poss?veis rela??es com a integridade cognitiva em idosos.

Although it is one of the most devastating injuries and poses multiple challenges for the patients, family, and clinicians involved, physical therapy can lead to neurological improvements in patients with TSCI. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of corporal suspension and pendulum exercises (CHORDATA? method) on torque, muscle activation, muscle thickness, and functionality in patients with TSCI. Methods: This study was a randomized, controlled clinical trial including 26 male TSCI patients (in whom injury occurred up to 3 years earlier at the thoracic level; age, 18?65 years). The subjects were categorized into two groups: an intervention group (IG; n = 14) and a control group (CG; n = 12). Before and after a rehabilitation program, which comprised 16 sessions of suspension and pendulum exercises (twice/week, 50 minutes/session), we evaluated the following parameters in each subject: maximal voluntary isometric trunk flexion and extension torques; electromyographic activity of the external oblique, rectus abdominis, and longissimus muscles; muscle thickness of the external oblique, internal oblique, transversus abdominis, rectus abdominis, and multifidus muscles; and functionality (adapted reach test). Mean ? standard deviation values were used to summarise continuous data, which were then compared at the baseline using t-tests. Categorical variables were expressed as counts and percentages. Between-group baseline differences were assessed using chi-square or Fisher?s exact tests, as required. Analysis of covariance, with adjustments for baseline measurements, was conducted to evaluate between-group differences after the 16 exercise sessions. The results were presented as mean ? standard deviation with the estimated adjusted difference between groups, followed by 95% confidence intervals. The study significance level was set at ? = 0?05. Data were analysed using SPSS version 22.0 (SPSS, Inc., Chicago, USA).This trial is registered with Clinical Trials.gov, #NCT02316067. Findings: The CG and IG patients had similar ages (p = 0?93), injury time (p = 0?41), injury level (p = 0?27), injury mechanism (p = 0?22), American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) scale (p = 0?11), injury type (p = 0?22), and functional reach (p = 0?11). Post-intervention, the IG trunk flexion (58%, p = 0?004) and extension (76%, p = 0?005) torques were higher in the IG than in the CG. Similar between-group differences were observed post-intervention for RA-L absolute RMS values (p = 0?028), RA-R RMS values normalized to the resting state (p = 0?047), and functional reach (p = 0?015). Muscle thickness for all muscles was higher in the IG patients as compared to the CG patients post-intervention (p < 0?002), except for the MULT-R muscle (p = 0?057). Interpretation: Sixteen sessions of suspension and pendulum exercises improved rectus abdominis muscle activation, trunk muscle structure and strength, and reaching capacity in TSCI patients. Methods: A randomized controlled clinical trial including 125 individuals from 30 to 59 years old with MS was conducted in the Rehabilitation Center of PUCRS. Individuals were randomized into three intervention groups: Standard Intervention (SI) ? nonpharmalogical intervention recommended by the guidelines for clinical management of MS, considered the control group in this trial; Group Intervention (GI) ? group lifestyle change implemented weekly by a multidisciplinary team; Individual Intervention (II) ? outpatient care through weekly individual consultations performed by a multidisciplinary team. The outcomes studied include the modification of the number of diagnosis criteria for MS and other clinical parameters such as cardiovascular risk score, Castelli Index (CI) and insulin resistance index HOMA-IR. Each group was assessed at the beginning and at the end of the interventions (three months). Results: Seventy-two individuals concluded the intervention, among them: SI: 19, GI: 25, and II: 28. Groups GI and II presented significant decrease of body mass index, waist circumference, and systolic arterial pressure after three months. The number of diagnosis criteria for MS decreased significantly ? 40% of the individuals did not meet the criteria for the clinical condition studied at the end of the intervention. The largest reduction occurred within group II, where 52% of the individuals presented less than three criteria. Regarding CI and HOMA-IR, both variables were significantly reduced (p < 0.05) in groups GI and II. Conclusion: The interventions proposed by this study reinforce that nonpharmacological strategies for changing lifestyle impact the reduction of cardiovascular risk factors involved in MS. They are also able to remove the population from this clinical condition by decreasing diagnosis criteria. / Objetivos: O objetivo do estudo foi verificar o efeito de diferentes interven??es para modifica??o do estilo de vida sobre o n?mero de crit?rios de diagn?stico e aspectos cl?nicos envolvidos na S?ndrome Metab?lica (SM). The HPA axis acts as a control and regulatory center of the body that connects the central nervous system to the hormonal system. The axis responds to the stressor stimulus and assists the body to maintain homeostasis, as well as being essential to the normal regulatory physiological functioning. Physically fit and physically active individuals exhibit a lower rate of health problems, especially when faced with stressful situations, contributing to reduced levels of anxiety and depression. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of physical exercise before the gestational period on changes due to prenatal stress in adult mice. METHODS: Balb/c female and male mice were divided into three groups: control (CTLE), prenatal restraint stress (PNS) and physical exercise before the gestational period and prenatal restraint stress (EX+PNS). The weight of the animals was evaluated during gestation, days 1, 10 and 21 of life and also as adults. Animals were then maintained until adulthood (60 days of life) when fear/anxiety behaviors were evaluated in the elevated plus maze, and depression was evaluated using the preference for sucrose and the ingestion of sucrose test. In addition, real-time PCR gene expression of corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRHR1) type 1 receptor in the prefrontal cortex, glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and mineralocorticoid (MR) receptor in the hippocampus, as well as plasmatic concentrations of corticosterone were evaluated. RESULTS: During gestation, females of the EX+PNS group presented greater weight in relation to the CTLE group. Regarding the offspring weight, animals of the EX+PNS group showed an increase in weight on days 1, 10 and 21 of life, compared to the PNS group. During the adult life, animals stressed in the prenatal period presented lower weight, while the pregestational exercise promoted an increase in the offspring weight in relation to the CTLE group. In relation to behavioral tests, there was a significant decrease in the time spent in the open arms of the elevated plus maze in the PNS and EX+PNS groups, in both sexes, demonstrating an increase in fear/anxiety behavior. Prenatal stress increased the preference for sucrose in females and sucrose intake in both sexes. However, exercise promoted a significant decrease in sucrose intake in males and females. CRHR1 expression decreased in the prefrontal cortex of EX+PNS females compared to the PNS group. On the other hand, pregestational exercise was not able to reverse the significant decrease in basal GR concentrations caused by prenatal stress in adult females. There were no significant differences between groups in GR gene expression in males, as well as in MR and corticosterone in both females and males. CONCLUSION: Physical exercise on the treadmill before the gestational period seems to be able to reduce the effects of prenatal stress on important markers of the HPA axis response in a sex-dependent manner. / INTRODU??O: Potenciais amea?as para a homeostasia podem ocorrer durante a vida in utero, promovendo efeitos de programa??o tanto no desenvolvimento neurol?gico quanto na fun??o do eixo hipot?lamo-pituit?ria-adrenal (HPA). Este eixo responde ao est?mulo estressor e auxilia o organismo a manter a homeostasia, al?m de ser essencial para auxiliar no funcionamento fisiol?gico normal. Indiv?duos fisicamente aptos e que praticam frequentemente atividades f?sicas exibem um menor ?ndice de problemas de sa?de, especialmente quando se deparam com situa??es de estresse, contribuindo na redu??o dos n?veis de ansiedade e depress?o. OBJETIVO: Avaliar os efeitos do exerc?cio f?sico antes do per?odo gestacional sobre altera??es decorrentes do estresse pr?-natal em camundongos adultos. METODOLOGIA: F?meas e machos Balb/c foram divididos em tr?s grupos: controle (CTLE), estresse pr?-natal por conten??o (PNS) e exerc?cio f?sico antes do per?odo gestacional e estresse pr?-natal por conten??o (EX+PNS). O peso dos animais foi avaliado durante a gesta??o, e nos dias 1, 10 e 21 de vida e na vida adulta. Esses animais foram mantidos at? a idade adulta (60 dias de vida) quando foram avaliados os comportamentos de medo/ansiedade, no aparato de labirinto em cruz elevada, e depress?o, por meio do teste de prefer?ncia e ingest?o de sacarose. RESULTADOS: Durante a gesta??o, as f?meas do grupo EX+PNS apresentaram maior peso em rela??o ao grupo CTLE. Em rela??o ao peso da prole, os animais do grupo EX+PNS exibiram um aumento no peso nos dias 1, 10 e 21 de vida, comparados com o grupo PNS. Durante a vida adulta, os animais estressados no per?odo pr?-natal apresentaram menor peso, enquanto o exerc?cio pr?-gestacional promoveu um aumento no peso da prole, em rela??o ao grupo CTLE. Em rela??o aos testes comportamentais, houve uma diminui??o significativa no tempo gasto no bra?o aberto do aparato de labirinto em cruz elevada nos animais dos grupos PNS e EX+PNS, em ambos os sexos, demonstrando um aumento no comportamento de medo/ansiedade. O estresse pr?-natal aumentou a prefer?ncia por sacarose em f?meas e a ingest?o de sacarose em ambos os sexos. No entanto, o exerc?cio promoveu uma diminui??o significativa na ingest?o de sacarose, em machos e f?meas. A express?o de CRHR1 diminuiu no c?rtex pr?-frontal de f?meas do grupo EX+PNS em rela??o ao grupo PNS. Por outro lado, o exerc?cio antes da gesta??o n?o foi capaz de reverter a diminui??o significativa nas concentra??es basais de GR provocadas pelo estresse pr?-natal em f?meas adultas. N?o houve diferen?as significativas entre os grupos na express?o g?nica de GR em machos e de MR e corticosterona em f?meas e machos. Objective: Design a clinical study to assess the efficacy of body suspension with tilting exercises on functional and quality of life outcomes in PD. Design, Setting, and Participants: This is an assessor-blinded, randomized and controlled clinical trial. A total of 48 subjects with moderate PD were recruited from the Neurological Service of S?o Lucas Hospital, PUCRS, Brazil. Recruitment took place between September 2015 and May 2016. The entire protocol study lasted 16 weeks, with 8 weeks of exercise protocol and 8 weeks of follow-up. Interventions: Subjects were randomly assigned to either body suspension with tilting exercises (intervention group) or stretching exercises (control group). Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was the Timed Up and Go test at the 8th week. Secondary outcomes were Berg Balance Scale (BBS); Functional Reach Test (FRT); Unified Parkinson?s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and Parkinson?s Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39). These measures were assessed at baseline (before trial entry) and then at the 8th (end of exercise protocols) and 16th weeks (8 weeks of follow-up) after randomization. Results: Of the 48 subjects randomized in the study 20 received the intervention (71.3?6.3 years old) and 20 were controls (66.7?6.4 years old). Eight of them were lost during the trial (four per group). Analysis of co-variance, with adjustment for baseline measurement, revealed a between-group difference in the Timed Up and Go test at 8th week [CI95% difference of -4.90 (-5.80 a -4.00), p<0.0001] and in the follow-up [CI95% difference of -4.94 sec (-5.82 to -4.06), p<0.0001], which was our primary outcome. Significant between-groups differences were also found for all secondary outcomes (BBS, UPDRS-III, FRT, and PDQ-39) at 8th week and follow-up (16th week) assessments. Conclusions and relevance: We suggest the body suspension with tilting exercises protocol (the Chordata Method) improves functionality and quality of life in subjects with moderate PD. This evidence supports the Chordata method appears to be a new effective therapeutic option to treat Parkinson-related mobility and balance dysfunctions. / Import?ncia: A efic?cia da utiliza??o de exerc?cios de suspens?o e pendula??o corporal (m?todo Chordata) para o tratamento de sujeitos com a Doen?a de Parkinson ainda n?o foi testada. Objetivo: Realizar um estudo cl?nico para avaliar a efic?cia de um programa de exerc?cios de suspens?o e pendula??o corporal sobre a funcionalidade e qualidade de vida de sujeitos portadores da doen?a de Parkinson. Delineamento, M?todo e Participantes: Trata-se de um ensaio cl?nico, controlado e randomizado, com avaliador de desfecho alheio aos grupos experimentais. Um total de 48 sujeitos com diagn?stico m?dico de doen?a de Parkinson, de est?gio leve ? moderado, foram recrutados a partir do Servi?o de Neurologia do Hospital S?o Lucas da PUCRS, Brasil. O recrutamento ocorreu entre Setembro de 2015 e Maio de 2016. O protocol do estudo teve a dura??o de 16 semanas, sendo 8 semanas de pr?tica dos exerc?cios propostos, com iguais 8 semanas de seguimento (follow-up). Interven??o: Os sujeitos foram randomizados nos grupos interven??o (suspens?o e pendula??o corporal) e controle (alongamentos de grandes grupos musculares). Desfechos principais e medidas: O desfecho prim?rio do presente estudo foi o teste do Timed Up and Go ao final do protocolo de treinamento (8 semanas). Os desfechos secund?rios foram a Escala de Equil?brio de Berg (EEB); o teste do Alcance Funcional (TAF); a Escala Unificada da Doen?a de Parkinson, sess?o III (UPDRS-III) e o Question?rio de Qualidade de Vida na Doen?a de Parkinson (PDQ-39). Estes desfechos foram avalaidos nos momentos pr?-interven??o, ap?s, ao t?rmino do protocol de exerc?cios (8 semanas) e no per?odo de seguimento (16 semanas ap?s a randomiza??o). Resultados: De um total de 48 sujeitos randomizados, 20 participaram do grupo interven??o (71,3?6,3 anos de idade) e 20 do grupo controle (66,7?6,4 anos de idade). Oito sujeitos foram perdidos durante a execu??o do estudo (quarto em cada um dos grupos). A An?lise de co-vari?ncia, com ajuste para os dados basais, revelou uma diferen?a entre-grupos no teste do Timed Up and Go ao t?rmino do protocolo de exerc?cios (8 semanas) [diferen?a IC95%: -4,90 (-5,80 a -4,00), p<0,0001] e na avalia??o de seguimento [diferen?a IC95%: -4.94 sec (-5,82 to -4,06), p<0.0001], teste este estabelecido como o desfecho prim?rio. Diferen?as significativas tamb?m foram encontradas para todos os desfechos secund?rios (EEB, UPDRS-III, TAF e PDQ-39) em ambas as avalia??es p?s-interven??o (8 e 16 semanas ap?s a randimiza??o). Conclus?es e relev?ncia: Nossos resultados sugerem que os exerc?cios de suspens?o e pendula??o corporal s?o capazes de melhorar a funcionalidade e a qualidade de vida de sujeitos com a doen?a de Parkinson, em est?gio moderado. The decline of musculoskeletal tissue interferes significantly with the functional capacity of the elderly. However, the practice of regular resistance training can prevent and / or minimize these derived functional declines of aging. Objective : to verify the association among anthropometric variables and muscle thickness, functional independence and muscle strength in older adults who practice resistance training and those still physically active, but without practicing resistance training (RT). Method : Sectional study with a comparison group, observational and not probabilistic. The sample consisted of 114 elderly divided into two groups: resistance training group (RTG): 43 elderly individuals practicing RT; physically active group (GFA): 71 elderly considered physically active. The variables were collected: sociodemographic, anthropometric, functional independence and functionality. The instruments used were inelastic tape measure, caliper, ultrasound, test and sit-ups, dynamometer strength, TUG test. The sample was adjusted for sex, age, income and education. Results : Significant differences were found with regard to sex, marital status, income and education between investigated groups (p <0.001). No significant differences were observed between the groups regarding the anthropometric variables (p> 0.05) and muscle thickness (p> 0.05). However, the GTR elderly group had a lower average travel time on the tug test (6.24 ? 0.86 seconds) compared to the GFA which averaged 11.24 ? 4.26 seconds (p = 0.035). Conclusions : TR group elderly had significantly better performance in the TUG test, which is related to less risk of falls and fractures the elderly. / Introdu??o : O processo de envelhecimento pode afetar a massa e for?a muscular e independ?ncia funcional. O decl?nio do tecido musculoesquel?tico interfere significativamente na capacidade funcional dos idosos. Por?m, a pr?tica regular de treinamento resistido pode evitar e/ou minimizar estes decl?nios funcionais oriundos do processo de envelhecimento. Objetivo : verificar a associa??o entre vari?veis antropom?tricas, de espessura de massa muscular e gordura, independ?ncia funcional e for?a muscular em idosos que praticam treinamento resistido (TR) e idosos considerados fisicamente ativos, por?m sem praticar o treinamento resistido. M?todos : Estudo transversal com grupo de compara??o, observacional e n?o probabil?stico. A amostra foi composta por 114 idosos divididos em dois grupos: grupo TR (GTR): 43 idosos praticantes de TR; grupo fisicamente ativo (GFA): 71 idosos considerados fisicamente ativos. As vari?veis coletadas foram: sociodemogr?ficas, antropom?tricas e funcionalidade. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: fita m?trica inel?stica, adip?metro, ec?grafo, teste do senta e levanta, dinam?metro de for?a, AVD, TUG test. N?o foram observadas diferen?as significativas entre os grupos em rela??o ?s vari?veis antropom?tricas (p>0,05) e espessuras musculares (p>0,05). Contudo, idosos do grupo GTR apresentaram uma m?dia menor de tempo de deslocamento no TUG test (6,24?0,86 segundos) em rela??o ao GFA que apresentou uma m?dia de 11,24?4,26 segundos (p= 0,035). Conclus?o : idosos que praticam o TR apresentaram significativamente melhor desempenho no TUG test, que est? relacionado com menor risco de quedas e fraturas em idosos.
