No. of bitstreams: 1 Gustavo Ferreira Simoes.pdf: 26632165 bytes, checksum: ab38215424bd678db9b9d98e6ea5409e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-06-08 / Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo / The emergence of the author function in the 19th century, as pointed out by Michel Foucault, was characterized by the investment in organizing, affiliating and homogenizing the diffusion of discourses from previous centuries. The author signature has risen as an existence entitled with a different status from those that used the word ordinarily at the same time that it was identified as the possible danger to be fought. Considering Foucault s suggestions, I have followed Roberto Freire s writings, with no intent of explaining it, while articulating it with his life experiences since the liberation of DOPS s dungeons, in 1965, a year after the military coup of 1964, until the publication of his last writings in the end of the 20th century. Freire s writings update the exercise of social literature undertaken by some libertarians in the beginning of the 20th century in Brazil. However, his books are not inspired by the thought of the socalled classical anarchists, but by the practices that have emerged with the protests, particularly those connected to customs, triggered by the events of 1968. Freire, dissociating himself from the projects of revolution, began to value, in the 1970s, through his books and life, certain experiences with the body, in the present, associating it to an anarchist sensualization of the existence. The analysis of his journey since 1960 when he was an activist in Ação Popular and through his experiences with The Living Theater, Wilhem Reich and the anarchism in the 1980 and 1990 was possible given the distance he kept from the notion of author. Freire s writings have been developed in movement. Therefore, one cannot impose on it a unity or explanatory restrain. Freire has dangerously sailed with his literature in the late 20th century. The navigation, according to Michel Foucault, was a privileged metaphor to those immersed in an ethical and aesthetical life in the Hellenistic and Roman antiquity. By affirming this navigation, this existence, he moved like a libertarian pilot, like an anarchist pirate / A emergência da função autor , no século XIX, como salientou Michel Foucault, caracterizava-se pelo investimento em organizar, filiar e homogeinizar a dispersão dos discursos oriunda dos séculos anteriores.

Nonlinear nonlocal parabolic-hyperbolic coupled systems for cancer cell movement and aggregation

Bitsouni, Vasiliki January 2017 (has links)
Cells adhere to each other and to the extracellular matrix (ECM) through protein molecules on the surface of the cells. The breaking and forming of adhesive bonds, a process critical in cancer invasion and metastasis, can be influenced by the mutation of cancer cells. Several molecules have been reported to play a crucial role in cellular adhesion and proliferation, and eventually in cancer progression, with TGF-β being one of the most important. In this thesis, we propose a general framework to model cancer cells movement and aggregation, in response to nonlocal social interactions (that is, attraction towards neighbours that are far away, repulsion from those that are near by, and alignment with neighbours at intermediate distances), as well as other molecules' effect, e.g., TGF-β. We develop nonlocal mathematical models describing cancer invasion and metastasis as a result of integrin-controlled cell-cell adhesion and cell-matrix adhesion, for two cancer cell populations with different levels of mutation. The models consist of nonlinear partial differential equations, describing the dynamics of cancer cells and TGF-β dynamics, coupled with nonlinear ordinary differential equations describing the ECM and integrins dynamics. We study our models analytically and numerically, and we demostrate a wide range of spatiotemporal patterns. We investigate the effect of mutation and TGF-β concentration on the speed on cancer spread, as well as the effect of nonlocal interactions on cancer cells' speed and turning behaviour.

Santos, Marta Souza 16 May 2011 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-27T17:26:55Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Marta Souza Santos.pdf: 2198786 bytes, checksum: 011fdb3e001326a7f97b90ccaccd5a45 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-05-16 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / This work aimed to investigate the place and the role of the image in the writings of Michel Foucault, evaluating its use not only as a narrative tool but also as part of his methodology of which the painting would be a component. Besides that, it aimed at investigating a possible constitution of an aesthetic in his work. Initially this thesis contextualizes the inclusion of Michel Foucault in the tradition of historiography and criticism of the western arts. Then, after a brief overview of the position and function of image in work of Foucault (with a descriptive of his writings, favoring the presence of painting), follows the reading of two of his texts throught the perspective of his methodological carrrer: the dimension of knowing with reading de La peinture de Manet, text pronounced as a conference between the years 1967 e 1971, in which Foucault performs an analisys of thirteen Manet's paintings; and the dimension of genealogy with the reading of The photogenic painting in the year 1975, text in which Foucault evaluate several photogenic paints from the french artist Gérard Fromanger. The question of image is in combination with some basic concepts and key to the demonstration of its importance in the Michel Foucault's work, as the issues of device of political resistance and the aesthetic of existence. Moreover the reading's division in this research of the texts by Foucault, under the focus of his archegenealogy considere the three domains of work traversed by the philosopher along his carreer knowlodge, power and ethics in addition to valorize the general Foucault's project of a historical-philosophical investigation of relations between subject and truth positioned from the perspective of a present ontology. The present ontology, or historical ontology, considers the critical work which the philosophy should undertake nowadays gathering the archaelogy of knowlodge or the speeches which made the man as an object and subject of knowlodge, like the power of genealogy as production of knowlodges and the practices of power which interfere on the subject and the ethics actioned by him in his self-constitution. Considering this, the problem of modernity, frequently elaborated by Foucault in his historical investigations, it's also based on the understanding of the philosopher about what constitute the artistic creation and his participation in the games and political struggles / Este trabalho teve como propósito investigar o lugar e o papel da imagem nos escritos de Michel Foucault, avaliando seu uso não somente como recurso narrativo, mas também como elemento de sua metodologia da qual a pintura seria componente além de indagar sobre a possível constituição de uma estética em sua obra.

Ellabib, Abdellatif 20 June 2000 (has links)

CHAIB, Karim 23 April 2002 (has links) (PDF)

Ngo, Van-Sang 07 October 2009 (has links) (PDF)

Rostamian, David, Odwar, Julius Peter January 2007 (has links)
<p>Old people's life situation when receiving municipal help and care in theirlast period of life is sparsely investigated from their own perspective. Thepurpose of this study was focused on the thoughts of the aged people andtheir personal experiences on what quality is within the geriatric care. Inthis qualitative study, 10 elderly people aged 75-90 years wereinterviewed from 3 different nursing homes within Solna Municipality.Qualitative interviews, with the emphasis on their present life situationespecially what brought about a good life, were performed. The interviewswere analysed using qualitative content analysis. The implication of theterm “meaningful existence” is individual and differs from person toperson. This study has identified six categories that could lead to ameaningful existence for the elderly living in nursing homes. These were:to feel secure, maintaining self determination, maintaining relations, to berespected, to feel comfort and to be active. In conclusion it was found thata meaningful existence, what ever it may be to the single individual, isimportant the quality of life for the elderly person residing in nursing homes.</p>
