Madame BrilliantHagerling, Weronika January 2012 (has links)
I have in my degree collection made a wardrobe for the fictive lady Madame Brilliant based on colourful women like Anna Piaggi and Elsa Schiaparelli. I have been working with everyday glamour and bright colours. I have created for Madame Brilliant the dream wardrobe. I have made the clothes the colourful women dream of, but never find in stores, feminine coats, dresses and hats, glamorous clothes for everyday life in exclusive fabrics. In my design process I’ve been working with the combination of colours, that’s why the styling and the small details are very important. Just like the colours in a painting give each other life, the clothes in my collection give each other life with the colours and pattern in the fabric. Many people experience brave colour as cheap, often because they’re made in cheap fabrics and are made for teenagers or old ladies without any sense of style and fashion. I have made my collection for the woman/girl without any age who likes clothes with a lot of personality and in exclusive fabrics. I have made my clothes in materials such as wool, silk, velvet, viscosecrepe, feathers to give them a more exclusive look that colourful clothes mostly don’t have. With my collection I want to spread colour, glamour, energy, humour and happiness. / Program: Modedesignutbildningen

"We Flawless": Black and Latina Adolescent Girls' Readings of Femininity in Pop CultureHood, Mia January 2018 (has links)
This study discusses how adolescent Black and Latina girls read the femininities made available in pop culture texts and how they take up those femininities when they narrate personal experiences. The purpose of the study is to explore how girls engage in pop culture on an ongoing basis, how these everyday engagements shape their understandings of themselves as girls, and how these engagements are themselves performances that both maintain and threaten the boundaries between boy and girl. In addition, this study witnesses the deconstruction of those meanings (Derrida, 1967/1997), exploring how attempts to make femininity mean something ultimately undermines itself.
As pop culture has come to saturate everyday life, American schools, following the Common Core State Standards’ (NGA, 2010) mandate for curriculum driven by “sufficiently complex,” canonical texts, have narrowed the scope and purposes of literacy instruction in schools. This research serves as a starting point for curricula that support young people in making sense of pop culture and their relationship to it.
Situated within a poststructural feminist theoretical framework, this study uses qualitative methods to make the literacy processes through which girls make sense of pop culture texts visible and to elicit narrations of the personal experiences in which girls take up the femininities made available pop culture texts. The findings suggested that girls make sense of these femininities by reading both in-narrative and out-of-narrative—standing back from the text and treating it as a text. In their readings and discussions of pop culture texts, the girls cited and inscribed discourses of femininity, constituting themselves as respectable girls by deliberately making judgments about women’s physical appearance on screen. Specifically, they acted to draw a line between what they saw as appropriate and what they saw as inappropriate. This repetitive act was one way they performed respectable femininity, stabilizing discursive meanings of gender and also holding open the possibility of the line being placed differently. The findings also suggested that storytelling as a site of discursive agency as the distance between the moment of experience and the moment of narration held open the possibility of reformulation and renegotiation of meanings.

Violência e feminino no cinema contemporâneo / Violence and femininity in contemporary cinemaCristian Carla Bernava 15 December 2010 (has links)
This research investigates the connection between femininity and violence in contemporary cinema. While considering the changes in which female violence has been portrayed in recent years, the first part of the work explores, through the analysis of Ms. 45 and The Brave One, the particularity of female violence cinematographic imagery and the emergence of a new kind of character, the warrior. The second part analyses the movies that featured three distinct icons of this period Nikita, Lara Croft and Beatrix Kiddo exploring the transformations and contradictions relative to the stereotypical female violence aspects presented in these different warriors.

Previous issue date: 2012-11-09 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This present work brings a doctoral thesis that in some cases of hysteria, the phallicity, when articulates with Eros force, promotes a sublimatory condition called me by the condition of positivity. The interest for this study began in my practice in both private practice and in public service desk, where I observed that some patients who considered carrying hysterical neurosis, had a tendency to sublimation. This mode of pulsional satisfaction employed by these patients allowed their psyches to leave making use of phobic symptoms or conversive, besides bringing social recognition from the cultural establishment. In order to deepen these clinical questions, I used as an object of study French designer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, who can be recognized until the current days as one of the most creative designers. Her revolutionary creations have allowed the woman of the twentieth century a freedom to be in the public space, from the changes that were taking place in the private sphere. Besides comfortable clothing that guaranteed elegance and appreciation of female body, Chanel created a specific haircut model, created pants, perfumes, fake jewelrys and exclusive shoes that bear her name until the current days. Her life history is marked by suffering and rejections, and some hysterical symptoms were impossible to overcome, however, which can be obtained in this research, as a result, is that her sublimatory condition allowed to remain productive until the last days of her life, valuing and being valued by the production, which made her symptoms remained in a secondary condition, that is, they do not incapacitated her / O presente trabalho de doutorado traz a tese de que em alguns casos de histeria, a falicidade, ao se articular à força de Eros, promove uma condição sublimatória, denominada por mim de condição de positividade.

Previous issue date: 2013-05-10 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The present psychoanalytical research aims to investigate the repercussions of incestuous sexual abuse engendered by the father on daughter s psychic constitution. This is a clinical research based on supervision of psychological treatment to people in situation of sexual violence. The theoretical reference that based this thesis is psychoanalysis, which settles that the incestuous sexual abuse of girls is linked to children sexual fantasies and with femininity structuring. Having observed passionate relationships in clinic cases of women who were victims of incest when children, the present work defends the thesis that incestuous sexual abuse engendered by the father promotes the establishment of the daughter s perversion. Such thesis is founded on Sigmund Freud s work on his theory concerning feminine psychic and perversion, and also on Piera Aulagnier s theory concerning historic reality and the desire and parents speech on dialectic of identification and self constitution, and on perversion and passionate relationships as manifestations of polymorphic potential. Two supervision clinic cases were examined and we conclude that incestuous sexual abuse engendered by the father during childhood perverts femininity through the girl s narcissistic disqualification as object of desire / A presente pesquisa psicanalítica objetiva investigar as repercussões do abuso sexual incestuoso praticado pelo pai sobre a constituição psíquica feminina.

Previous issue date: 2013-10-04 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation developed a study about hysteria and femininity in the light of
Freudian psychoanalytic theory. It starts through the clinical observation of women
considered to have hysterical neurosis with a tendency of sublimation, including a
common feature, which is the ability to turn adversity into motivation for growth, for
the fulfillment of wishes in the personal and professional fields. This instinctual
satisfaction allows that their psyche does not succumb to a phobic or conversion
symptoms and those they are socially recognized for their talent for cultural creation.
Seeks to set this hysterical neurosis viewpoint, in the object of study chosen for this
research work, which is the biography of Elis Regina, still one of the greatest singers in
the country. The interpretations of the artist, who also explored the performing arts,
yielded contributions to the role of women in the public and private sectors of the
Brazilian society of the 1960s and 1970s. Elis lived a poor childhood and adolescence,
but in adulthood, built a meteoric career of successes. Her life was marked by a
stubborn desire to achieve your goals. The sublimatory condition which assumed
allowed her to keep productive until the last days of her life, reaping the rewards of your
artistic trajectory which built. This implies that their symptoms remained relegated to a
maiores cantoras do país.

Previous issue date: 2013-10-18 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Focusing on maternal perspective, this paper aims to reflect through psychoanalytic theory some conflicts that involve a woman meeting her son with Down Syndrome. A son for being so different from the idealized can cross the maternal psyche, producing unimaginable effects and totally unique. The paper looks at Sandra s story for she has a son with Down syndrome. Using the interview as a method in psychoanalysis Sandra reported her experience conveying in her speech conscious and unconscious contents, which were essential, not only for a later link with the theory, but for further reflection on this difficult encounter. From her speech, the theoretical research was constructed and articulated with the case, in other words, from a singular story it was possible to capture plural issues that can be seen in other women and other meetings. The theoretical study was based on psychoanalysis developed by Freud and the contributions from Piera Aulagnier, as well as some of its interpreters. The desire to have children in women is the result of a long and complex process that culminates in the psychic constitution of femininity and it is settled after the dissolution of the Oedipal complex and the assumption of symbolic castration. Such process brings about narcissistic and imaginary expectations whose effect on that woman in the idealization of her son. Even in small traces a child will never match this mother idealization, but, in the case of a baby with Down syndrome, this perception is even more concrete as the phenotypic characteristics, shortcomings and impossibilities that the syndrome carries open up the difference in her child. So after the baby is born, the mother faces a strange body, distinct from that one expected during her pregnancy. The difference in the child's body might produce a concussion in the woman s narcissistic illusion whose baby would answer her unconscious ambitions, therefore maternal castration is highlighted by the void that is opened. This encounter might cause discomfort and anguish in the mother as the stranger disturbs and frightens. This narcissistic injury, in some cases, can trigger a trauma of encounter , as the mother might not anchor the psychic representative created and invested during her pregnancy on to the body of her baby, hindering the libidinal investment. The elaboration of such encounter will depend on the psychic mechanisms of each woman subjective constitution and her resources to go through this mourning / psicanalítica alguns conflitos que envolvem o encontro de uma mulher e seu filho com
Síndrome de Down.
psiquismo materno, produzindo efeitos inimagináveis e totalmente singulares.
A elaboração deste encontro vai

Democratic Strength and Cowardly Barbarism? : a discourse-theoretic study on the gendering of terrorism in the Swedish political discourseSvensson, Emelie January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study is to map out the gendered constructions of terrorism and terrorists within the Swedish political discourse. The starting point of the research are the recent terror attacks in Paris 2015 and in Brussels 2016, a time at which the Swedish government presented a number of new and more aggressive counterterrorism strategies for combating terrorism and Daesh. Seeking to understand how these strategies are justified and legitimized to the Swedish people, the study seeks to contribute to the literature of gender and terrorism, with a specific focus on gendered nationalism and masculinity. Based in the belief that everything in the social world is structured in gendered hierarchies of masculinities and femininities, a discourse theoretic analysis is carried out on Swedish government minister’s speeches and statements. Empirical findings indicate several gendered constructions; a hegemonic masculinization of Sweden and the EU and a subordinate masculinization and feminization of Daesh.

Constructions of femininity in Latin/o American comics : redefining womanhood via the male-authored comicTullis, Brittany Nicole 01 May 2014 (has links)
This dissertation examines constructions of femininity in three male-authored Latin/o American comics: Gabriel Vargas' La Familia Burrón (Mexico, 1948-2009), Quino's Mafalda (Argentina, 1964-1973), and Love and Rockets (Los Bros. Hernandez, 1981-1996; 2000-present). After first establishing an analytical context from which to explore these works, discussing contemporary trends in national comics production as well as the ways in which femininity has been prescriptively constructed in each particular time and place, I then analyze the ways in which each author questions, challenges, and/or completely reconstructs their own version of "graphic femininity." As the following chapters will show, each articulation of femininity as constructed within the three serial comics under examination here takes different forms in each comic under analysis; while female characters in one title might embody a socially idealized model of femininity such as the "angel in the house," or the cult of "true womanhood", characters in other comics (or even within the same title) might play inverse roles, defying the mandates of the role assigned to them by contemporary society and ideological institutions such as compulsory heterosexuality or patriarchal power. A variety of models of feminine behavior and subjectivity are present in the panels of these comics, but in contrast with other contemporary constructions of femininity in cultural texts, products and sociopolitical discourse, they are presented critically rather than prescriptively, depicted in ways that disrupt the limits of femininity as it has traditionally been construed and, in some cases, offer visions of alternative, liberating paths.
