Le carnet de santé d'un monument : Application au château de Chambord / Health record of a monument : practical application of the castle of Chambord

Janvier, Sarah 18 December 2012 (has links)
This thesis is dedicated to the establishment of a methodology to study the built cultural heritage, applied to the castle of Chambord. It consists in realizing the health record of the monument, and completing it by an experimental sequence in laboratory, in order to provide a diagnosis of the state of degradation.Historical archives about the castle were gathered and analysed to obtain mappings of dating and nature of stone. By mean of in situ observations, a mapping of degradation has been added. A synthesis of the information concerning the past and the present of the monument allowed establishing a list of the main factors associated to degradations and to a chronology of development of these degradations, so as to estimate their kinetics.Spalling, which is the most damaging and complex usual degradation, has been chosen as case of study for the diagnosis of degradation. The physic-chemical characterisations made on in situ coring lead to systematically found gypsum in spalling’s cracks. Various artificial ageing tests have been performed to enlighten the role of gypsum, its transport mode, and its origin. Atmospheric pollution including gaseous SO2 reproduces well the distribution of gypsum observed in spalling at Chambord. A global mechanism taking into account this phenomenon has been proposed to clarify the development of this degradation.

Interlocuções entre a prática de restauração de Luís Saia e as teorias de restauro: São Paulo, 1937-1975 / Dialogues between Luís Saia\'s practice of restoration and restoration theories: São Paulo, 1937-1975

Ferreira, Camila Corsi 12 November 2015 (has links)
This research deals with the preservation of the architectural heritage of both colonial and coffee period, within the context of architectural restoration\'s practice undertaken by the architect Luís Saia during his activities in National Historic and Artistic Heritage Service (SPHAN). In his operations as the head of São Paulo regional, Saia was one of the key characters in the practice of conservation in Brazil through the structuring of a restoration methodology, especially between the years 1937 and 1975. This was a precursor activity in the country, since there were no previous references in the field of architectural restoration. Luís Saia did not formulate a theory of restoration. However, in the midst of discussions on the parameters for the effective realization of conservation practices, conducting a critical rereading of interventions in SPHAN allows us to check for references to theoretical texts of restoration, as the Athens Charter (1931) and the Venice Charter (1964), showing evidence that their practice performance has found support in the patrimonial charters. From this perspective, this study evaluates the presence of possible dialogue between European restoration theories, which formed the basis for the development of patrimonial charters, and the restoration intervention undertaken by the architect. Therefore, we sought to analyze six emblematic works, in order to verify a possible theoretical basis that appraises them, formulated or not preliminarily to those works, and to what extent were guided by European theoretical precepts of restoration, especially Italians.

Da tutela dos monumentos à gestão sustentável das paisagens culturais complexas: inspirações à política de preservação cultural no Brasil / Guardianship of monuments to management sustainable of complex cultural landscapes: inspirations for cultural preservation policy in Brazil

Vanessa Gayego Bello Figueiredo 30 May 2014 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the construction of heritage concepts related to cultural preservation policies. It examines the policies pursued by IPHAN, UNESCO and the municipalities of SP and SA. Then, it identifies, in Brazil, three management models: one referenced on the notion of monument, another in the design of cultural heritage and the last one in the cultural landscape. It assumes the alignment of the latter approach, as a concept, with the complexity theory formulation, aiming to support a sustainable management system construction, based on interinstitutional sharing, disciplinary integration and citizen participation.

Moderní dějiny a památková péče ve středo-východní Evropě / Modern History and Heritage Preservation in Central-East Europe

Krejčí, Marek January 2014 (has links)
Czech born art historian Max Dvořák is known as one of the leading persons of modern heritage protection in Central-East Europe. He formulated, similarly as his own teacher Alois Riegl, position in manner of science work typical for Vienna School of Art History. Main purpose and contribution of this work lies in a comparison of some parallels of phenomens including reception of his ideas in other states of Central-East Europe: former Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Hungary or Slovenia from the early organized conservation efforts in former Austrian Empire in 19th century to presence. On a theoretical level, in former Czechoslovakia, the Dvořák's modern conservation principles were accepted as universal. Unfortunately, in practice, this dominant discourse was changed by conformity in a conflict with political reality. The 1950's mean a stage of expansion of the state heritage protection, but a bitter price was paid by superordination of the political criteria to the professional ones. The moral ethos suffered also a lot of injuries. This resulted in preferring bureaucratic formalism over factual approaches, voluntarism, in compromise ability and in unwillingness to risk ones position for getting involved in fundamental questions of the preservations of monuments without any deeper interests in...

Úpravy a prezentace Pražského hradu v období první republiky / Adaptations of Prague Castle in the Time of the First Czechoslovak Republic

Měchura, Petr January 2016 (has links)
Adaptations of Prague Castle in the Time of the First Czechoslovak Republic The main subject of this thesis is to analyse one of the latest stages of the development of Prague Castle. The extent of the changes the historic core of the Czechoslovak state went through in the time of the first Republic is comparable only to the Theresian reconstruction in the second half of the 18th century, which unified the appearance of the castle and had a definite impact on the panorama of Hradčany. The period between 1918 and 1938, called the first Czechoslovak Republic, is connected with the development of a new democratic state. To offer a complete picture, the building activities in the area of Prague Castle shortly before 1918 are summarized as well; in some cases it was inevitable for the understanding of the modern reconstruction to insert short overviews of the whole building history. The analysis and the attempt to evaluate the mentioned important stage in the development of Prague Castle are based on a detailed study of the building activities that originally followed different goals. These activities concerned various parts of the castle and can be divided into three groups according to architects and builders: Kamil Hilbert, Josip Plečnik and Karel Fiala. The characters of the structures and of the...

We observe the subordination of the culture to the dictates of the capital, the scenery or landscapes like one more product for sale is transforming the senses of the territories and of the cultural inheritance. The gatekeepers of Moroccan cultural heritage : Amazigh women and the status quo

Macdonald, Madisson January 2021 (has links)
This study aims to determine the role of Amazigh/Berber women in maintaining and preserving the cultural heritage of their people through carpet weaving, as well as how this tradition contributes to gender norms and tourism in rural Morocco. The research method consisted of conducting semi-structured interviews and a literature review of intangible cultural heritage preservation, traditional gender norms in rural areas, and nomadic tourism theories. Analysis of the interviews concluded that Amazigh women keep their traditional culture alive through carpet weaving, and they are simultaneously valued and marginalized within their society. The necessity and pressure placed upon them leads to issues related to gender equality and girls’ rights/accessibility to a quality education in the modern context. Though in a constant state of change and shifting with time, the nomadic lifestyle and traditional Berber carpet weaving are still participated in today and nevertheless hold deep significance for those who partake in these activities. Traditional mentalities regarding gender norms remain intact, although they are challenged more frequently. Women’s weavings are critical in preserving Amazigh culture and symbolize a heritage identity in an overt manner, making women central to the Berber story and Berber heritage.
