Previous issue date: 2005-03-31 / It is intended through this research to understand how the clinic psychologist interacts with the homosexuality brought by clients during the therapeutic process. The homosexuality, which until recently was considered as a disease or a behavioral deviation, is gaining special attention from the Psychology professionals not only because its incidence is rising among adolescents, but also because under the contemporary cultural configurations it is a phenomenon that needs to be revaluated. Taking the homosexuality historical and cultural evolution as reference - including some of its theoretical approaches - and also reviewing the authors that studied the establishment and development of Psychology as science and profession, it was possible to draw a map allowing us to come closer to the psychologist s proceeding, his/her role, his/her difficulties and contributions, and the influence of culture upon the therapist s practice. Also, taking the phenomenological method as theoretical reference, and performing individual interviews, a qualitative research was developed, aiming to unveil the experience and resonance of therapists working with clients that face homosexual issues. Reports full of reflections and contributions lead to a surprising picture: under solving/curative demands, along with psychological theories openly biased to pathological concepts, therapists relate a clinical intervention directed to a perception of man as an entire being, allowing them a critical theoretical and social attitude regarding this growing occurrence in their offices. On the other hand, therapists reveal an unassisted theoretic/professional position when dealing with this issue and with the family/social background of their clients. On calling attention to this situation we hope to contribute to the need of further reflection and also to offer a point of view that set in motion a critical thinking regarding this matter, and to find the place of the psychologist as a professional exploring this panorama / Buscou-se, através deste trabalho de pesquisa, compreender como o psicólogo clínico interage com a homossexualidade trazida pelo seu cliente no processo terapêutico.

Previous issue date: 2015-11-27 / This study aims to investigate the operation of the discourse on homosexuality, since its constitution to its way to mean in different production conditions. Based on the perspective of French Discourse Analysis, came to us theoretical and methodological conceptions of their articulating, Michael Pêcheux. The corpus on which we commented our interpretive gestures is the American movie "Prayers for Bobby", which deals with homosexuality in adolescence in the context of a traditional religious family. Therefore, it's not in our interest to generalize the customs and family structure presented in the plot. Having defined the corpus of our work, some cuts were made that generated the discursive sequences subsequently analyzed from our theoretical and analytical look. For that, we based on the theoretical and analytical conceptions of Pêcheux (1969, 1975, 1983, 2004, 2010), Courtine (2006, 2009, 2010), Indursky (2011, 2013), Orlandi (1999, 2009, 2012, 2013), Baronas (2011), Mussalim (2011) and others. So, our study is divided into two parts: the first refered to the theory chapter, which gives the basis to the investigation proposed and, the second, compounded by subitems that correlate and provide to proceed with our analytical gestures. In short, our concern in this research is primarily about the production conditions of discourse present in the plot, passing also by sliding conceptions of meaning, ideological formations, discursive formations, discursive memory, interdiscourse and subject-position, and how each subject means, being crossed by ideology. We conclude, albeit tentatively, given the incompleteness of the subject and the discourse that the interdiscourse on homosexuality is crystallized in society from an early age and that are the Discursive Formations (FD) dominant that make homophobic discourses about homosexual spread, generating in the analyzed corpus the silencing of the homosexual subject.

Contextos de revelação da orientação sexual: no final do arco-íris tem um pote de ouro / Contexts of revelation of sexual orientation: the end rainbow has a pot of gold?Luiz Fabio Alves de Deus 10 March 2014 (has links)
The decision to reveal ones sexual orientation, and in what contexts to do it has a direct impact on the trajectory of homosexuals lives. The objective of this study was to describe the development of sexual orientation according to sociodemographic characteristics, contexts and degrees of development and episodes of discrimination and aggression among 1217 men aged 18 to 77 years frequenting social spaces in two areas of São Paulos State capital who agreed to participate in the Sampacentro study. This study is an outgrowth of a larger research whose methodology was the time-space sampling and whose data collection instruments were: questionnaires about inclusion structured around questions about sociodemographic data, sociability and sexual practices, attitudes and perceptions about prevention, stigma and discrimination. The variables were described as frequencies and proportions. The hypothesis tests used were chi-square test and Fisher\'s Exact test for differences between proportions and chi-square test for trends for ordinal variables. The level of significance was set at 5 per cent . Predominant among the sample were the white race/color (59 per cent ), high level of education, (43 per cent university graduates), high employment rate (90 per cent ), high socioeconomic standard (57 per cent in Class B), high proportion of not practicing any religion (51 per cent ); 55 per cent declared themselves as single and 82 per cent as gay. The revelation of their status as gay was statistically significant among young people, the white race/skin color, among those who were dating and among homosexuals. Fifty-two percent of participants shared information about their sexual orientation in all social scenarios; the distribution is given in ascending order in the scenarios of friendship, health services, family, school and work. Regarding the experience of all kinds of discrimination there was tendency to greater discrimination as the sexual orientation was shared in more scenarios. There was in increasing trend for suffering aggression as the orientation was shared in more scenarios, regarding physical aggression, verbal abuse and threats, beatings, the scam of lacing drinks with hypnotic drugs, blackmail and harassment at work. We conclude that the development of sexual orientation is still a challenge in the trajectory of homosexual men marked by social barriers, and that in the greater number of social scenarios the information about gay sexual orientation is shared, the bigger are the chances to suffer discrimination and aggression.

Previous issue date: 2018-03-23 / This dissertationis in the line of research entitled Public Policies in Education, Educational Practices and Diversity, of the Graduate Program in Education of the Universidade do Oeste Paulista. The objective of this research was to analyze the perception of non-heterosexualy outh about their sexualities, as well as to verify their experiences during the schooling process in the contextof formal education. The adopted epistemological framework is based on post-structuralism and the qualitative approach wasadopted as a methodological design. The research was conducted with Young people who do not identify with the heteronormative patterns in terms of the expression. of their sexualities. In addition, it was considered that these participants stand out for their social actions related to debates about youth protagonism, sexual diversity and drug prevention in their communities, located in theperipheryof a medium-sizedcity in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The instruments used were semi-structured interviews and reflective interviews. The issuesofthe script wereformulatedfromdiscussionsbroughtbythearea-specificliterature. The focus group was also performed as a technique for data collection, conducted through the use of images that portrayed central analytical categories in the adopted the oretical framework. It was also understood that the images would allow a greater approximation of the life stories of the participants, allowing the evocation of subjects not explored just with the use of interviews. For the analysis of the material was used the technique of contente analysis. Fromtheanalyzes, three analytical categories were identified in the Study: a) Structural homophobia; b) Injury in the school environment; c) A network of affective and social support. The results of the work demonstrate that, before a heteronormative society, any expression. Of desireconsidered deviant can be constantly rejected and invisible with in a meticulous system engendered by social practices and discourses, including the formal environments of education at its diferente levels. The research is made relevant by the importance of the theme for thearea of education, especially at the moment when conservative and fundamentalista discourses gain diferente contours and spaces. In addition, the investigative process made it possible to reflect on the extentto which these "abnormal" subjects can transit in formal education spaces, despite the fact that these spaces are configured as homophobic, violent, oppressive and that produce psychic suffering in subjectsthat are notheteronormativepatterns.

The influence of open and closed attitudes on the reception of scientific evidence of genetic predisposition to homosexualityJeffers, Stephen 01 January 1998 (has links)
The study examined attitudes toward homosexuals from a neo-functional perspective, including a proposal that these attitudes are primarily 'open' and informationally based, or primarily 'closed' and affectively based. Scientific evidence of a genetic predisposition to homosexuality should be differentially received, based on the attitudes of the recipients of the information.

Dangerous, Desperate, and Homosexual: Cinematic Representations of the Male Prostitute as Fallen AngelsLay, John Phillip 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to frame the cinematic male prostitute as a "fallen angel" to demonstrate that the evolution of the cinematic hustler has paralleled historicized ideological definitions of male homosexuality. Because cultural understandings of male homosexuality frequently reflect Judeo-Christian ideological significations of sin and corruption, the term "fallen angel" is utilized to describe the hustler as a figure who has also succumbed to sin due to his sexual involvement with other men. This study constructs an epochal analysis of eight films that explores the confluence of the social understanding of homosexuality with the cinematic image of the hustler from the mid 1960s through the present. In doing so, this study shows that the image of the cinematic hustler is intricately tied to the image of the male homosexual in material cultures and eras that produce them. A filmography is included.

The Prediction of Homophobic Attitudes among College StudentsSchatman, Michael E. (Michael Edward) 08 1900 (has links)
A review of the literature on homophobia indicates that negative attitudes toward homosexuals and homosexuality have been empirically related to numerous socio-demographic and attitudinal variables. Research to this date has focused on the relationship between individual variables and homophobia rather than examining multiple variables simultaneously. The purpose of the present investigation was to identify the factors which are predictive of homophobia. One hundred and ninety-four female and 115 male participants completed a biographical information questionnaire requesting socio-demographic information, self-proclaimed religiosity, frequency of church attendance, self-proclaimed political orientation, and political party identification. Participants also completed measures of attitudes toward male homosexuality, attitudes toward lesbianism, attitudes toward women, authoritarianism, sex anxiety, sexual attitudes, and socio-economic status. Statistical treatment of the data through principal components analysis indicated that homophobic attitudes are best predicted by a factor identified as "conservatism". Other factors were identified which predicted homophobia to a lesser extent. Male participant gender was determined to predict homophobia toward male homosexuals, but gender was not found to predict homophobic attitudes toward lesbians.

Women's negotiation of alternative sexualities in the Western Cape: A Cape Town case studyMitchell, Sharrone CJ January 2012 (has links)
Masters of Art / This mini thesis is an exploratory study of the lived experiences of bisexual and lesbian women in the Western Cape with regard to how they claim agency and negotiate their individual sexualities. Using mixed methodologies this study aims to look at the ways in which bisexual and lesbian women negotiate their sexuality in a landscape dominated by heterosexual discourses. Also considered are the contradictory ways in which these women assert their roles as lesbians and bisexual individuals and how these roles serve to simultaneously reinforce and challenge the dominant order of heterosexuality. The conflicting views of the respondents are documented which further demonstrates the complexities surrounding sexuality. This research identifies and explores both international and local research already conducted on alternative sexualities and address the lack of black researchers' conduct of these studies on the African continent. The study also records an
acknowledgement of the researcher's reflection that she too holds contradictory views on some of these issues.

HIV Testing Among Nigerian Men Who Have Sex with Men After Criminalization of HomosexualityIleka, Gerald Onyeka 01 January 2019 (has links)
Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at high risk of HIV in Nigeria. However, African countries like Nigeria, Botswana, Mali, and Mozambique have laws that prohibit homosexuality, making it a punishable crime in these countries. For example, the Nigerian government signed the anti-gay law in 2014. Laws like these affect the health status and outcomes among Nigerian MSM. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the influence criminalization of homosexuality has on the willingness to test for HIV among MSM in Abuja, Nigeria. Guided by the socio-political theory (SP) as the theoretical framework, a qualitative approach was designed to understand HIV testing perception among MSM since after the criminalization of homosexuality in Nigeria. Interviews were conducted among 15 MSM to understand how the law created factors that influence their decision to test for HIV and their quality of life. Data gathered from the face to face interview was coded based on the research questions. Further analysis was done using thematic to develop themes that addressed the research questions. Findings revealed that anti-gay law influenced MSM to avoid HIV testing and disclosure. Additional themes revealed respondents’ perceptions on homosexual criminalization’s impact on healthcare access, fear of imprisonment, relationships, and psychological and physical fears. The research findings will help address the discrimination, social injustice, violence and human right violation MSM face in Nigeria. Through dissemination of these findings, positive social change will be achieved through increased HIV testing among MSM and improve HIV prevention programs aimed at MSM.
