31	Love's Circumscriptions - the self in hide(ing) - : Surviving and Reviving the Truth Leaman, Michele 11 1900 (has links) I trace Jacques Derrida's notions of self and truth in Circumfession. This text paints a gruesome self-portrait depicting the inescapable violence of subjectivity. The self is born in blood. Derrida courageously confesses to being a casualty of this lovelessness. Similarly, exploring the depth of patriarchy's inscriptions requires facing the painful truth of my bleeding self. Investigating these wounds seems to reopen them, making me complicit in my own oppression. Drawing from the rich narrative of Ingeborg Bachmann's novel Malina, I allow feminists such as Helene Cixous, Luce Irigaray, Drucilla Cornell and bell hooks to engage Derrida's notions of the wounded and wounding self. Beginning in this bloody place, they attempt to write a way-out of the disempowering systems of subjectivity to which the female self seems confined. They write in order that love will bleed some light on the struggle for empowered female subjectivity, re-writing the self as a space of love rather than violence. The purpose is to analyze how the silence is used as an instrument for control, and how it can be used strategically to take power, but also as a resistance against the power. The novel The Vegetarian by Han Kang and the autobiography novel on verse, brown girl dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson are the core of this essay. This essay focuses on how the characters break the silence, and how they use the silence strategically to find their voice in a society that systematically works to keep women, children and men silent. The silence works in specific ways in all kinds of situations, to explore the complexity of the power dimensions a comparative analysis allows the themes to emerge and enlighten each other’s diversity. With help from Rebecca Solnit in Alla frågors moder, Audre Lorde in Your silence will not protect you and Michel Foucault’s Diskursens ordning, among other voices, the essay aims to search for how the silence can work as a strategy and what it means to speak. The essay shows how the oppressing silence is broken in brown girl dreaming, and how the voice becomes the power, but also how the silence was used in the African-American Civil Rights Movement as an act of resistance. The essays also analyze the female main character in The Vegetarian, who makes a journey from an oppressed woman where the patriarchal men violate her silence and forcing her to speak, to an existence where silence, life and growth thrives. 35	Performative Resistance as Ecofeminist Praxis? Johnson, Benjamin D 05 1900 (has links) Erika Cudworth's Developing Ecofeminist Theory provides a helpful foundation for a non-essentialist, properly intersectional ecofeminist account of oppression, marginalization, and domination, but her rejection of what she refers to as "postmodernism" appears to be based on a misreading of Judith Butler. I attempt to provide a synthesis of Cudworth's framework with Butler, particularly through the use of Karen Barad's agential realism, in order to provide possibility for new alliances between ecofeminism and other anti-oppressive frameworks. I then examine what it might look like to do ecofeminist praxis, given the complex view of agency, ontology, and intersectionality rendered by such a synthesis. I draw from bicycling as an example from which to extrapolate what it means to resist oppression, and then draw from the Philosophy for Children movement to consider what such resistance might look like within the classroom. Eliasson, Daniel, Carlsson, Olle January 2023 (has links) Byggbranschen bidrar till stora utsläpp av växthusgaser, och det är därför viktigt att utforska hållbara material för att minska påverkan. Studien fokuserar på grundfundament för mindre trähus i Sverige, där betong i platta på mark ersätts med korslimmat trä (KLT) för att reducera klimatpåverkan. Eftersom betong har hög tryckhållfasthet gjordes analys av kantbalkens kapacitet. Fyra alternativ på kantbalkar undersöks: KLT/EPS400, KLT/Foamglas, KLT/EPS s100 och EPS400. Studien bedömer även den nuvarande dimensioneringen i hållfasthetsberäkningarna. Testdata för tryckhållfasthet används för att jämföra med förväntade resultat och avgöra om beräkningsmodellen ”2:1 metoden” är tillräcklig.Syftet är att bedöma möjligheterna för användning i två hustyper hos en ledande hustillverkare i Sverige. Miljöpåverkan av alternativen beräknas med IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutets verktyg, BM, där även en betonggrund jämförs. Det utförs även en enklare insikt i skillnader av produktion mellan en klassisk betonggrund och Klaragrunden. Genom att byta ut betongen i en platta på mark med KLT, gör det möjligt att sänka grundens CO2 utsläpp med 65-68%. / The construction industry contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, making it crucial to explore sustainable materials to reduce its impact. This study focuses on foundation systems for small wooden houses in Sweden, where concrete slabs are replaced with cross-laminated timber (CLT) to decrease climate impact. Due to concrete's high compressive strength, an analysis of the edge beam's capacity was done. Four edge beam alternatives are examined: CLT/EPS400, CLT/Foamglas, CLT/EPS s100, and EPS400. The study also evaluates the current dimensioning in strength calculations. Compression strength test data is used to compare with expected results and determine if the calculation model "2:1 method" is sufficient. The aim is to assess the possibilities for use in two house types from a leading house manufacturer in Sweden. The environmental impact of the alternatives is calculated using IVL Swedish Environmental Institute's tool, BM, where a concrete foundation is also compared. There is also a brief insight into the differences in production between a traditional concrete foundation and Klaragrunden. The findings indicated that the single-story villa Lycke can be constructed using CLT and EPS s100, while the 1.5-story villa Tyresund can explore possibilities with CLT and Foamglas T4+. Moreover, the study revealed that the CLT and EPS s400 combination yielded the best average foundation. By replacing the concrete in a ground slab with CLT, it is possible to reduce the CO2 emissions from the foundation by 65-68%. This music-theoretical study applies principles of Gestalt psychology and theories of expectation to a study of melodic hooks in 21st-century popular music. The hypothesis tested here is that melodic hooks are a vital element in “catchiness”. Transcription and analysis of melodies by major recording artists is used to explore the note-to-note basis for melodic hooks. The analysis of recordings by Adele, Carly Rae Jepsen, Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke shows how factors of repetition, familiarity, simplicity, resolution, ambiguity of key, and expectation all contribute to the sense of catchiness in music. A listener-response study was used to test the experience of catchiness in the case studies, and corroborates the hypothesis that catchiness depends principally on expectation as an overarching factor. The study also uses auto-ethnographic reflection on the practice of song-writing to give insight into strategies for creating catchy popular songs. The experience of composing a pop song, and releasing it on air, provides unique insight into the artistic process. A library is designed to work under the Microsoft Windows and Linux operation systems. It records image and also sound. Image recording is supported in OpenGL, Direct3D9, Direct3D10 and Direct3D11. To reduce video data size, library supports image compression using MJPG codec. Audio is recorded by WaveForm audio, Windows Core Audio or ALSA. Recorded sound is for whole operation system. A library is able to record up to two audio streams to accommodate possible microphone input. It can mix audio data together if needed. Output data are then written into AVI file. It is possible to write own text information as overlay that is rendered as part of application screen output.
