Bibliotek i tunnelbanan : en ideologisk analys / Subway libraries : an ideological study

Fant, Paula January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the reason behind thedecision to open libraries at subway stations in Stockholm. The theoretical framework for the study is Douglas Raber´s threeideologies, social activism, conservative response and populistinitiative. The study includes interviews with librarians and apolitician responsible for the service and documents with plansfor the Public Libraries development during the period. Theempirical material was examined with an idea- and ideologicalanalysis. The conclusion is that the concept of the subway libraries consistsof a combination of the three ideologies but the most evidentare those of populist initiative and social activism. The reason for opening libraries at subway stations is to makethe libraries more easily accessible, to attract new visitors and tomake the Public Libraries service more visible. These smalllibraries have a function as a market place for the Public Librariesand as a meeting place in the city. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Behöver skolan skolbibliotek? Skolbibliotekets roll i skolans demokratiuppdrag. En kritisk ideologianalys. / Does school need School Libraries? The School Library’s role in school’s democratic assignment. A Critical Ideology analysis.

Johannesson, Maria, Karlsson, Anne January 2007 (has links)
The subject of this master thesis is the school library and how we find its potential unutilized. We look at this problem in connection to the democratic assignment that the Swedish school has. The purpose is to elucidate what the democratic assignment consists of and to establish the role that the school library ought to have in this assignment. To describe the democratic assignment we examine and interpret the documents that regulate school and library activities today, including UNESCO/IFLA School Library Manifesto and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We use critical ideology analysis because we consider democracy to be a sort of ideology and have a critical view of how the school library is used or rather not used in school. To help us fulfil the purpose we have three questions:What role should the School Library have in school’s democratic assignment?a)What does the democratic assignment consist of?b)How is the School Library’s role described in the regulative documents of school and library activities and in IFLA/Unesco’s School Library Manifesto? The analysis is done by trying to interpret what’s said and what’s implicit. According to this master thesis the school library is not a natural part of school society and the existence of a school library is very much dependent on the headmasters view on school libraries. It’s quite clear that the school library can be a tool and a pedagogic resource in helping school to achieve the aims of the democratic assignment.

The European Union and the freedom of information. An idea and ideology analysis of the freedom of information in the European Union data retention directive 2006/24/EC.

Kollberg, Anders January 2008 (has links)
This master’s thesis is about freedom of information ideas in the European Union data retention directive, 2006/24/EC. The directive means that data about electronic communications services will be retentioned. The aim of the thesis is to examine what ideas related to freedom of information that appear in the directive and how these ideas belong to the ideology of freedom of information that is common within the library community and to the juridical restrictions. In the light of surveillance tendencies that have occurred over the last years, the most well-known is probably the USA Patriot Act, it is interesting to study how freedom of information ideas appears when surveillance is legislated. The theory used comes from the dissertation of Stuart Hamilton which is about freedom of information and its barriers in libraries. The method that I have used is the idea and ideology analysis. My study shows that the freedom of information ideas that appears in the directive 2006/24/EC belongs to surveillance and privacy. The surveillance ideas have to do with the permitted restrictions. The privacy ideas have mainly to do with the ideology of freedom of information but also to the juridical permitted restrictions. Even if there is nothing explicit in the directive about the freedom to seek, receive and impart information or freedom of access to information, the two definitions of freedom of information are influenced by ideas of surveillance and privacy.

An ideology analysis of the Swedish national cultural policy

Engström, John January 2012 (has links)
This Bachelor’s thesis examines and describes the governmental cultural policy in Sweden. The relation between the state and the market in society is in focus. Earlier research is used to describe the development of cultural policy in Sweden after the world war two until today. Two governmental bills are examined and described, one from 1974 and one from 2009. The main issues are: What ideological content can be seen in the two bills? What ideological content can be seen in relation to the market? What points of ideological similarity and difference appear in a comparison between the two bills? In general the conclusions from the analysis are that cultural policy in 1974 is formed around the word equality. The ideology in 2009 years bill is formulated in words of growth. In the comparison different patterns can be seen. An ideological development is clear that shows that neo-liberal market-related ideology is present 2009 but not in the bill from 1974. The method used in the Bachelor’s thesis is textual ideology analysis. A method/theory about ideology analysis created by the Swedish professor in history of ideas, Sven- Eric Liedman is used. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Kamyab Ottesen, Jonatan January 2014 (has links)

Lundgren, Anna January 2013 (has links)

Kvinnors rätt i samhället?

Kvist, Maria January 2012 (has links)

“There is Some Kind of Open Access Out There.” An Idea and Ideology Analysis of How Librarians at Research Institutes Relates to Open Access.

Dalmalm, Johanna January 2009 (has links)
The Open Access (OA) movement came to be as a reaction against the enclosure of information resources, facilitated by new distribution technologies. The purpose of the OA movement is to make research results freely available. The aim of this master´s thesis is to increase the understanding of how libraries outside of the academic sphere and within research institutes relates to OA. As a theoretical framework I created two different ideologies, the OA ideology and the nonsharing ideology. I also conducted six interviews with librarians. Through an idea and ideology analysis I relate the materials to the two different ideologies. The theories used concern information commons and gifting economies. My study shows that the informants have different views of the OA ideas depending on what aspects that is in question. Especially when it comes to economics and copyright issues the informants express a great degree of criticism against the traditional publishing models. In some other aspects the informants relied on the traditional publishing and thereby on the nonsharing ideology. The idea to make research results freely available was positively viewed upon by many of the informants. They sometimes plan and have ideas connected to the OA ideology. In a few cases they also work with OA materials, but the context that the libraries functions within makes it complicated and sometimes less urgent than it is in the universities to adopt to OA to a larger extent.

Lokal kulturpolitik på 2000-talet? En ideologianalys av fem kommunala kulturpolitiska visionsdokument. / Local cultural policy in the 21st century? An ideology analysis of five municipal cultural policy vision documents.

Åsfält, Maria January 2009 (has links)
This Master’s thesis explores and describes the beliefs, values and norms in a selection of five Swedish municipal cultural policy documents approved 2005-2007. The comprehensive question is: Which ideological traits characterize cultural policy in the chosen municipalities as communicated in their respective cultural policy vision document? The method used is ideology analysis. Ideal types based on a model by Dorte Skot-Hansen are used as a conceptual framework, illustrating three different rationalities in relation to cultural policy: the humanistic, the sociological and the market oriented. The analysis shows that the policy documents are based on different conceptions of culture. Concepts with a marked presence in the material as a whole are availability, participation, prioritization of children and youth and culture as a means for social development and economic growth. In terms of rationality the market oriented and the sociological rationalities are strong, whereas the humanistic rationality is relatively weaker. However, the results are not unambiguous. One conclusion drawn is that the municipal policy documents display a relatively high degree of independence towards the Swedish national cultural policy goals from 1996. Another conclusion is that in the midst of the 21st century it has been possible for the municipalities to choose different paths for the cultural policy on the local level.

Ideologisk inverkan på SAB:s klassificering av arkeologiavdelning J / Ideological influence on Archaeology section J in SAB´s classification systems

Giniewska, Ewa, Albrechtson, Sophie January 2009 (has links)
The Swedish Library Classification System, known as the SAB-system, can be viewed as a product of the cultural and social norms and values in Sweden during the time in which it was created and subsequently reviewed. The main purpose of this master’s thesis is to examine the archaeology section J in the SAB-system, in order to observe if values and norms within this discipline had any impact on the Swedish Library classification system. Our intention is therefore to verify any correspondence between the choice of topics and hierarchical structure of that section, and the values and norms that ruled the Swedish society during the 20th century at large but with particular emphasis to the academic discipline of Archaeology. At the present, Archaeology is often disputed as a value-free interpretive science. Modern scientists are wondering if archaeological conclusions have ever been apolitical. This paper explores if altered attitudes and the socio-political changes through history, can be seen in the Swedish Library classification system. The imperialism, nationalism and left wing radicalization are some of the movements that are examined in this paper. The approach of this study is hermeneutical due to the importance of understanding the context. Literary studies of the history of Archaeology and Library and Information science have been used, and a comparison between all of the eight editions of the SAB-system has been conducted. The result of this study shows that even though the political and ideological changes had a great impact on the Archaeology as a science, there is little evidence that shows the dependency of the archaeology section in the SAB-system from the academic discipline itself. Regardless, the result also shows that the political and ideological changes through the 20th century greatly influenced the outlines of that particular section of the Swedish classification system.
