The implementation problems of Medical Information Systems / The implementation problems of Medical Information Systems

Inam Ul Haq, Muhammad, Ahmed, Rafiq January 2011 (has links)
The use of medical information systems is now prevailing in the whole healthcare environment where the focus is on reducing clinical errors and supporting healthcare professionals in their routine tasks. Hospitals adopt medical information systems to facilitate their healthcare staff in providing efficient services to patients. Studies show that most of the time these systems cannot deliver according to their functional capacities due to certain implementation problems. In this research, we have indicated different implementation problems, their root causes and suggested proper approaches for solving these issues. In the textual analysis, we examined different technical, psychological and social problems that may arise during the implementation process. These theoretical findings have been validated through questionnaires and interviews with doctors, nurses, technicians and people involved in the development of medical information systems. The companies that are providing implementation services are also consulted to validate the theoretical facts. The results show that implementation problems are social and psychological rather than technical, so these problems should be solved with interpersonal, psychological and social skills. The focus of the implementation process should be on the social, psychological and technical effects to avoid any conflict. Reasonable user involvement in the decision making process, motivation and proper training reduces many implementation issues automatically. It is concluded from empirical results that development and implementation teams should have reasonable medical domain knowledge to diminish future implementation and maintenance hazards. The theoretical and empirical results show that data security issues are psychological as well as technical and should be dealt with by high priority.

The importancy of project management approach to organizational strategy implementation.

Boyadjian, João Paulo Paes de Barros 02 July 2008 (has links)
This thesis aims to identify the main importance of project management for the process of strategy implementation. More specifically, the dissertation investigates the degree of association between the various techniques and practices of project management and strategic management to the process of implementing strategies. This work is due to an initial study literature, through which it sought the expansion of knowledge on the subject, followed by a field research. The research had the character quantitative-descriptive with the objective to describe the data set and determine relations between the relevant variables of interest. In such a way, some independent, dependent and intervenient variables of the research were defined, as, respectively, satisfaction and the percentage of strategies implemented the project management and strategic management techniques ment and strategic projects and the maturity levels. There was a non-probability sampling, selecting the sample with convenience and judgement. The survey sample was composed of executives from the area of project management and strategic planning of the 1,000 largest companies in Brazil. For data collection three questionnaires were used that also served as a guide for the executive interviews. Most of the interviews were conducted personally and some were made by telephone, because of the distance. Data analysis was done with the use of statistical methods like: descriptive analysis, correlation and multiple linear regression analysis. From the research its possible to conclude that: 1) the maturity is not the variable actor (intervenient) between project management and strategy implementation success, 2) only two knowledge areas had high correlation with implementation (scope and acquisitions); 3) the analysis showed that there are some positive evidence between the strategy implementation success and a variety of techniques, concepts and practice of strategic management and projects, 4) companies with strategy implementation satisfaction equal or above 8 or who managed to implement more than 60% of the strategies, had greater levels of maturity general, particularly in the procurement, cost and scope areas. It is important to emphasizing that all of these conclusions should be restricted to the scope of this dissertation. For future research it is recommended: 1) the use of a larger and more diverse sample may give a richer statistical comparison between industries or its possible to focus in only one sector, 2) its possible to compare the survey results by companys size, 3) intensify studies in other important areas such as human resources and communication, and 4) collect and analyse the tactic and operational opinions comparing the results with the executive perspective. Finally, the current Brazilian scenario favors studies in this area, attending the researchers needs who are interested in this issue.

Teacher Implementation of a School Based Anxiety Prevention Program in British Columbia

Bacchus, Natashia Soraiya 01 January 2018 (has links)
The Friends for Life program is an evidence-based practice being used in schools to assist children to learn skills to manage anxiety. The Friends for Life program has been used by school districts in British Columbia, Canada, for over 10 years, yet there is little research on how the program is being implemented in schools by teachers. This qualitative case study investigated the implementation practice of the Friends for Life program by teachers in Grades 4 and 5. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 8 teachers from a smaller school district in British Columbia, Canada. The results yielded themes, which described critical factors that helped or hindered teachers in implementing the program with fidelity. A key finding of the study demonstrated teachers were running the program weekly, as per program guidelines. A key factor that was identified as helping teachers to implement the program with fidelity was support of school counselors, district staff, and the building administrator. The implications for social change include providing school administrators with information, which can help them to support teachers to implement the Friends for Life program with fidelity. As a result of these findings the Friends for Life program may consider updating the training materials and program implementation protocols in order to ensure teachers are implementing the program with fidelity and therefore, children are learning the skills they need to manage their anxieties and worries.

Implementation av 24-timmarsmyndigheten i Offentlig Verksamhet : -

Karlsson, David January 2008 (has links)

/
This article researches the implementation of a case and workflow system called Platina at the County Administrative Board in Västerbotten County. Problems with the implementation were identified through interviews and observations with employees. The empiric studies showed that the County Administrative Board did not get a fully functional system, but in fact a system that demands continued development to meet the expected demands. There is also a risk that the development of the system will be aborted due to organizational changes.

A Simulation-Based Approach to Understanding the Dynamics of Innovation Implementation

Repenning, Nelson 10 1900 (has links)
The history of management practice is filled with innovations that failed to live up to the promise suggested by their early success. A paradox facing organization theory is that the failure of these innovations often cannot be attributed to an intrinsic lack of efficacy. To resolve this paradox, in this paper I study the process of innovation implementation. Working from existing theoretical frameworks, I synthesize a model that describes the process through which participants in an organization develop commitment to using a newly adopted innovation. I then translate that framework into a formal model and analyze it using computer simulation. The analysis suggests three new constructs—reversion, regeneration and the motivation threshold—characterizing the dynamics of implementation. Taken together, these constructs offer an alternative explanation for the paradox of innovations that produce early results but fail to find a permanent home in the organizations that adopt them.

Hed, Johan January 2013 (has links)
As a cost-cutting tool, packaging logistics particularly have become an attractive area within the Swedish retail and FMCG area. How organizations in the industry since adapt to packaging logistics is itself fundamental to the outcome. The basis for this study involves three well-known Swedish players in the retail and FMCG area. The study has highlighted opportunities and challenges that packaging logistics entails. It also clarifies how a company should prepare organizationally to implement a packaging logistics approach. The theoretical contribution of the research study includes an analysis tool for companies to relate to for a possible implementation of packaging logistics in the organisation. Based on the analysis tool, five fundamental steps exemplifies what companies in the retail and FMCG-area should take into consideration for a successful packaging logistical implementation and on-going management of it.

Riktlinjer för implementationen av Business Intelligence inom sjukvården : En explorativ studie av sjukvården i Region Halland / Guidelines for implementing Business Intelligence within the health care sector : An explorative study of the health care sector in Region Halland

Friman, Rasmus, Libell, Henrik January 2011 (has links)
Business Intelligence is a collection of tools with the purpose of extracting and ana- lyzing information out of raw data within an organization, and based on this provide better decision support. Business Intelligence has been traditionally used within the industry sector, but in recent years the health care sector has also noted the benefits of having a well-implemented Business Intelligence system. However, implementation is a complex process where many things can go wrong, and based on the fact that the health care sector just recently began its use of Business Intelligence, research on this topic is scarce. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how the health care sector in Region Halland along with involved consultants work with the implementation process, and to produce guidelines on how this should occur. The thesis was based on a qualitative approach and applied an explorative study with depth interviews where a total of five persons from Region Halland and two persons from an IT consulting firm contributed to the thesis’ results. The results showed that guidelines drawn from neighboring academic areas and the private business sector, after some adjustment, are also valid within the health care sector. It was also concluded that education is an area on which more emphasis should be placed during the implementation process, and that today’s Business Intelligence systems fits the health care sector well.
