Transferring Brand Value : from a traditional channel to a digital platform

Carme, Anna, Benon, Jesper, Pantzar, Marianne January 2008 (has links)

As technology continues to affect the business sector, many companies have been faced with the nesessity of transformation. Adapting to a new, more Internet based society im-plies that companies are venturing into new market channels to get their products or ser-vices out to the consumers. Simultaneously as many companies are digitalizing, they are also launching or planning to launch brand extensions. Combining the two phenomenon’s we get a corporate situation that is vaguely explored, namely how a brand extension be-tween market channels work. Further more, how can value be transferred in this process?

The purpose of this thesis is to further investigate the phenomenon described above and to gain more understanding about the new situation. Therefore, the authors have chosen to conduct an empirical investigation exploring how a company can transfer brand value to a new online product or service. This was done in cooperation with the company Eniro that recently have focused their efforts from their traditional printed market channel into a digital brand extension. During the study 15 in-depth interviews with small to medium sized companies were performed, and backed up with complementary communication with managers at Eniro. Four research questions were formulated to serve as a read thread throughout the work. The main aim was to evaluate brand equity of the traditional product to then compare if this brand equity had been transferred to the new online extension.

After having performed the in depth interviews with representatives from the various companies, the authors could conclude that the original product of the printed directory with the company/person Gula Sidorna held stronger brand equity than the online exten-sion despite the company’s effort to promote the extension. The authors believe the rea-sons for this could be that during the process of extending the brand, some strategic deci-sions were made that did not enable the parent brand value to be transferred to the new extension. There were however value in the new extension in terms of simplicity and speed. Being able to quickly respond to the new and dynamic market where speed to market can be an important advantage was part of the positive associations for eniro.se. In the discussion regarding the main issue of transferring brand value to a digital platform the authors found that one of the most vital aspects is having clear communication within the organisation, sending out a clear message in marketing activities, not forgetting to emphasize reliability and stability to ensure that people in all ages feel inclined to use the digital product.

Van der Linde, Albert Hendrik January 1998 (has links)
The research on management strategies by the school principal for the managing of the female teacher with burnout, is divided into six phases. Firstly it is to determine what the nature of burnout in the female teacher is, what the causes of burnout in the female teacher is, what the causes of burnout are, which symptoms are detected by teachers suffering from burnout and what consequences the burnout in female teachers may have for the learners, colleagues, employer and for the female teacher concerned. In the second place it is shown what strategies can be applied for the managing of the female teacher suffering from burnout. A few recent models for managing burnout are explained and strategies aimed at intra- en interpersonal skills, factors related to the environment as well as group activities are discussed. In the third place it is empirically determined to what extent female teachers in d1e North West Province are suffering from burnout by means of standardised questionnaires for the measurement of burnout. Fourthly it is indicated how female teachers who differ with regard to home language, medium of instruction in their schools, years of experience and !he area where the school is situated, also differ with regard to the degree of burnout they experience. During the fifth phase of this study it is determined empirically, by means of questionnaires for principals, how principals are recently managing female teachers with burnout The first ten strategies, according to the order of preference by principals, are then discussed, Lastly directives are given. by means of a holistic management model aimed at the causes of burnout, which could be used by principals as managing strategies. These strategies deal with the professional development of the female teacher, acquirement of intra- en inter-personal skills as well as the management of demographic and environmental causes of burnout. / Thesis (PhD)--PU for CHE, 1998

How global and local businesses can work efficiently with managerial recruitment : A case study focusing on the selection process

Kjellberg, Sandra, Jansson, Stina January 2018 (has links)
The work with Human Resource (HR) has become increasingly aware within recent decades. HR has been assigned a more obvious role in management and companies that are working actively with HR can show competitive advantages. Many scientists believe that people are the company's most important resource. This has led to the importance of recruitment and especially manage recruitment, which has reached the HR manager's agenda. A selection process in a manage recruitment consists of several instances of choices where the selection is performed through different methods and tools. The purpose of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of how companies can effectively use the different selection methods in their managerial recruitment. In order to gain a deeper understanding of how selection methods are used in manage recruitment and how the selection process can be developed, the study is structured with interviews of informants from both global and local businesses. Documentation from the companies and from their websites is used too. The theoretical frame consists of previous research in recruitment and human resource management (HRM) as well as two theoretical approaches in recruitment research. These approaches are widespread in recruitment research, highlighting how to ensure the selection process with two different perspectives. The study is a case study conducted with qualitative method where the selection processes of five organizations represent each case. We have had the opportunity to interview 1-3 employees per company, which totaled in nine. By providing the collected empirical evidence and the documents we have studied against the theoretical frame, an analysis has been made that shows that the selection methods in a managerial recruitment depend more on the characteristics requested by the candidate than the company's geographical coverage. In order to gain further perspective on the recruitment process, the psychometric and social approach has been used. The conclusion of this study, together with the aforementioned results, is that a hybrid of both local and global conditions as well as psychometric and social theory seems to be an effective way to select in a manage recruitment in the companies studied.

Ethnobotany is the study targeted the existing mutual relationship between human populations and plants where we can direct studies from this perspective in different environments between these backyards. Ethnobotany is the science that is concerned with safeguarding both the knowledge of the local flora as the culture of the people in relation to plants. This field has been studied in all parts of the world, including Brazil, with the most diverse areas of scientific knowledge in order to rescue the popular knowledge. Ethnobotany is part of the studies focused on a broader scale, the Ethnoecology, which somehow sets the study on human knowledge and local knowledge of the relations which exist between them, often involving processes occurring in the environment. Such studies are difficult to be applied, since they require an extensive knowledge of the language spoken by the population to be studied and how it relates to other aspects of culture. It encompasses a complex study that integrates the analysis present in komos corpus - praxis (kcp), these variables allow the perception and understanding of the environment and its natural processes. Thus, this study aims to conduct research of cultural and social ethnoknowledge residents of the city of Tangará da Serra, about traditional ecological knowledge we have about the use and management of plants present in their homes, based strongly linked to perceptions. The city of Tangará da Serra is located in the Southwest region of the state of Mato Grosso. The interviews were conducted in three districts of the municipality (Vila Portuguesa, Jardim Shangri-lá e Jardim São Luiz). Information from their backyards and locals were obtained through interviews with the use of forms with open and semi-structured questions. For data collection technique type Snow Ball ( snowball ) , and the intent, which was used for the selection of new informants to be incorporated in the interviews , which were recorded in the field notebook and recorded was applied when and the sample allowed species were photographed ( authorized ) for further analysis and identification. 54 residents living in the urban area were interviewed, and the age of the respondents ranged from 18 to 89 years old, and 85 % of respondents were women. During visits to backyards studied were found and identified 154 plant species distributed in 66 families. Plants with greater representation include the families Lamiaceae ( 12 species ), Asteraceae ( 9 species ), Rutaceae ( 9 species) and Solanaceae ( 6 species ) . In their backyards perceives a diversity of use of plant highlighting here six categories identified by the use of informants, medical, food, ornamental, toxic, personal beauty and mystique. In this study, the plant part most used in the preparation of home remedies was the sheet (71 nominations), followed by fruit (48 nominations) . The use of plants and their various applications in general are quite significant among the population of Tangará da Serra. The residents of this region proved to be aware of the importance of values , care and conservation of the natural resources in their backyards and in this scenario was evident a strong approach / interaction between human- plant relationships that they provide good quality of life , safety food and care , under the constructive optic their backyards .

O methodological approach of the study complied with the following steps: a) conducting 10 semi-structured interviews with managers who participated in the trainee program in 2002 and 2008, recorded electronically on the desktop of the agencies surveyed in the cities of Campina Grande, Joao Pessoa, Monteiro and Guarabira, the approach used was qualitative type, using the method of oral history and narrative analysis technique to get the results. With major research findings concluded that the model adopted by the trainee program SEBRAE / PB selective in its early stages consists of using selection criteria of professionals with higher education curriculum that address supplemented by graduate students; by application logical and behavioral testing. The program emerged from individual and collective skills such as teamwork, group leadership, conflict management, creativity and communication. The reasons revealed to be a trainee: to know, learn, grow, contribute, merge experience, working with people, believe in the company. The dynamic learning environment and challenging routines and activities included in project execution; service to a diverse audience of artisans, farmers, entrepreneurs of micro and small agricultural businesses, conducting missions in conditions that made travel risky and unsafe ; achievements of local and state events. The meanings of experience as a trainee were the importance of context and social support in the face of difficulty of the exercise activity, to reflect on their practices and the discovery of skills and abilities acquired through professional performance. Learning as a manager is also revealed as surrounded by antagonistic feelings, some received social support in the internal and external environment where others lived and worked the experience of not being legitimized as managers worked in agencies where, colleagues and other senior managers, which led to isolation from peers. The legitimacy of the trainee program was through promotions, autonomy of action, the positive results and the dissemination of the results of their actions in the media nationwide and internationally. The factors that contributed to the practice of the trainees were able to work with people, represent the interests of SEBRAE / PB, build partnerships, strengthen existing relationships have developed through the skills and training, social support within and outside the work are limited and and for the management, structure and format of the trainee program, administrative and functional structure of the company; context of the practice, attitude and perception of colleagues and personal factors to deal with conflict and change.

Health Systems Readiness to Manage the Hypertension Epidemic in The Primary Health Care Facilities in the Western Cape, South Africa

Deuboué Tchialeu, Rodrigue Innocent January 2016 (has links)
Background. Developing countries are undergoing a process of epidemiological transition from infectious to non-communicable diseases, described by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon as “a public health emergency in slow motion”. One of the most prevalent of these diseases, in sub-Saharan Africa, is hypertension, which is a complex chronic condition often referred to as the “silent killer” and a key contributor to the development of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Hypertensive patients in this setting are estimated to increase from 74.7 million in 2008 to 125.5 million in 2025, a 68% increase. There is however an important gap between emerging high-level policies and recommendations, and the near-absence of practical guidance and experience delivering long-term medical care for non-communicable diseases within resources-limited health systems. To address this gap, our study consisted of field investigations to determine the minimum health systems requirements necessary to ensure successful delivery of anti-hypertensive medications when scaling-up interventions. Methods/Design. A cross-sectional analytic study was conducted in the Western Cape Province of South Africa using a mixed method approach with two sets of semi-structured interviews and simulation modeling. One set of interviews was conducted with health professionals involved in the care of hypertensive patients within nine community health centers (five urban and four rural) to understand the challenges associated with their care. The other set was used to map and assess the current supply chain management system of antihypertensive medications and involved key informants at different levels of the process. Finally, modeling and simulation tools with ARENA Software were used to estimate minimum numbers of health workers required to ensure successful delivery of medications when scaling up interventions. Results. The study found numerous challenges affecting the care of hypertensive patients in primary health care facilities and categorized these into five interconnected dimensions: Management of the visits within the PHC facility, Adequacy of human resources, Standardization of patients’ care, Infrastructure limitations, and Patients’ responsibilities. Potential solutions to overcome these challenges were explored in order to improve the care of the hypertensive patients in the PHC facilities. Mapping of the drug supply chain management system highlighted the complexity of the system. In fact many of the issues reported fell outside of the control of the provincial health department. The need for a more single comprehensive computer system to handle most of the functions of the drug supply management system was heavily emphasized. The modeling and simulation tool with ARENA Software estimated the type and number of health care professionals needed to provide appropriate services to a certain patient population based on the set targets. The sample data used showed how one can test the impact of various changes in the processes and staffing levels to minimize waiting times while increasing the daily patients’ intake at the facility. We found that with few additional nursing staff, that are more affordable and quicker to train than medical doctors and pharmacists, one can considerably improve the performance of the facilities in the care of hypertensive patients. Discussion. This investigation has highlighted the detailed processes in place for the care of hypertensive patients in primary health care facilities, identifying the challenges in providing such care. The potential solutions suggested by the study results, if implemented, should help improve services offered and ensure that the system remains sustainable when patients’ intake increases exponentially as a result of scaled up interventions. The weaknesses of the drug supply chain management system demand immediate action. The modeling and simulation tools used in this study, if used on an ongoing basis, could create more effective planning of needed resources, although their proper utilization will require extra training for managers. Whether there is sufficient political support to ensure the resources necessary to reach the provincial health department’s hypertension target remains to be seen, and would benefit with further economic studies to estimate the cost associated with tackling the hypertension epidemic.

Systémový model řízení organizace / System model of organizations management

Černý, Michal January 2011 (has links)
Necessary for the existence of every successful organization is achieving its objectives. In order to achieve these objectives, the organization must be properly managed. In today's rapidly changing times, one of the key areas of managerial work is also use various tools to support management and decisive actions. One of these tools include model development and subsequent implementation of the model simulations. Models provide the ability to experiment with various decisions, and thereby provide a basis for establishing appropriate policies and strategies. And these models properties can be used in the management of organizations. For creation of models exist many different approaches. One of these approaches is systems approach, which is including system dynamics. The task of this text was to establish a framework for the formation of systemic management model any organization that would help managers to improve management of the organization. To achieve this goals is necessary to develope general model of organization elements, describe their possible links and determine methodology of creating a system model of the organization.
