Test et fiabilité des mémoires MRAM / Test and reliability of Magnetic RAM (MRAM) memoriesSeabra de Azevedo, João Batista 11 October 2013 (has links)
Memories occupy most of the silicon area in nowadays System-on-Chips. Though widely used, non-volatile Flash memories still have several drawbacks. MRAMs have the potential to mitigate almost all Flash related issues. However, they are prone to defects as any other kind of memory. Only few studies on MRAM testing can be found in the literature, and target mainly the first generation of Magnetic Memories. In this work the physics behind MTJ modeling is discussed in this work as this understanding is the starting point in order to develop a reliable model. MTJ is the basic building block of MRAMs. Moreover, Resistive-open, resistive-bridge and capacitive of defect injection are performedin order to analyze specific failure mechanisms of TAS-MRAMs. As result of defect injection analyses and the association of each failure mechanism to a specific functional fault model, a specific march test is proposed. The evolution of TAS-MRAMs is the MLU based MRAM also developed by Crocus Technology. Finally, a MLU-MTJ model will be developed and discussed.

Previous issue date: 2016-07-29 / Despite of the growth of actions and studies focused on older people in recent decades, as the progressive aging of the population, there is still a weakness of research in relation to elderly reading stories, as well as about the importance of remembering those stories. This way, this essay has the purpose to identify, reconstruct and record the individual memories of the elderly, whose outlined problems were the investigation of reading stories of these subjects related to their life stories. This research sought to understand how the elderly have re-meant their lives by reference to the readings done. Participants in the research were five subjects who attend to the workshop Memories and readings from Universidade Aberta ? Terceira Idade at Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana ? Bahia. This paper analyzes issues related to family background, childhood, school, work, reader trajectory and reflects on the reinterpretation of life of the elderly based on their reading memories. The research follows a qualitative descriptive nature, with the methodological basis the story of life, using the interview as data collection tool, in order to get as much as possible from the memories of those involved. The data were analyzed through the light of cultural history, the history of reading and remembering. Therefore, it sought to support the ideas of Peter Burke (2008), Roger Chartier (2004, 2009, 2015) and Ecl?a Bosi (1994, 2013), among other scholars. By analyzing the memories of older people, it is possible to draw a profile of these readers, noting its varied modes of interaction with reading at different periods of their lives. The result of the work brings out the personal stories and reading memories of older people, revealing the importance of the act of remembering these subjects not only relive moments, events, memories from the past, but also they can redo themselves, they can re-mean themselves and then they can enjoy their aging process healthily. Voluntary and involuntary mental time travel in dysphoria and depression : characteristics and mechanismsGarcez Aurélio Dos Santos, João Pedro January 2017 (has links)
Mental time travel (MTT) refers to an individual’s ability to mentally travel through subjective time, autonoetically re-experiencing past events under the form of autobiographical memories (past MTT), and pre-experiencing events as future autobiographical representations (future MTT). MTT can occur voluntarily, whereby a past/future autobiographical event is subjectively experienced as an intended occurrence, or involuntarily, wherein such an event is subjectively experienced as an unintended outcome of which the individual is aware. Studies investigating MTT’s characteristics in dysphoria and depression show that dysphoric and depressed individuals produce more overgeneral and negative MTT events when compared to control groups. However, existing research has been limited to past and voluntary MTT events, with few studies investigating involuntary MTT and future MTT in dysphoria and depression. The overarching aim of the present research was to compare the phenomenological characteristics of MTT in dysphoric individuals vs. normal mood individuals (Study 1), and in clinically depressed individuals vs. never-depressed individuals (Study 2), with the purpose of furthering existing knowledge on MTT and its relation with dysphoria and Major Depressive Disorder. This aim was addressed by conducting two studies, using a 2 x (2 x 2) mixed-factorial design, with temporality (past vs. future events) and type of retrieval (voluntary vs. involuntary events) as within-subjects independent variables, and participant group as a between-subjects variable. In Study 1, Portuguese university students were categorised into a dysphoric (n=17) or a normal mood group (n=39) depending on their score on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-IA) – cutoff point (≥ 10). In Study 2, clinically diagnosed depressed patients (n=32) were recruited from a Portuguese hospital and matched for age and gender with never-depressed control participants (n=32) recruited from the community. The dependent variables tested were: level of spatiotemporal specificity, self-relevance, mood and physical impact, valence, and visual perspective of the MTT events produced. A diary methodology was used in both studies, with an open-ended time period that lasted for a minimum of two weeks, for participants to record their MTT events and grade them on the above mentioned variables using Likert-type ratings. Between seven and fourteen MTT events were produced for each of the four MTT conditions (past voluntary, past involuntary, future voluntary, future involuntary). Results showed that when compared to their respective control groups, depressed, but not dysphoric participants, exhibited a clear influence of mood on several of the phenomenological characteristics of MTT. In Study 1 there were no statistically significant differences in the specificity, negative valence, and mood/physical impact of the MTT events produced by dysphoric and normal mood participants. On the contrary, in Study 2, results partially supported a lower specificity and fully supported a greater negativity and mood/physical impact of MTT events in depressed individuals compared with never-depressed participants. Both studies supported the greater self-relevance of voluntary MTT events and partially supported the hypothesised effect of type of retrieval in specificity. These were the first studies to directly compare past and future, voluntary and involuntary MTT events in dysphoric and depressed individuals, addressing existing gaps in the literature. The key limitation is the relatively small sample size of both studies, however each participant was comprehensively assessed for at least two weeks, providing a rich set of reliable data. Despite limitations, this thesis provides novel pilot findings that help understand the similarities and differences between involuntary and voluntary, past and future MTT, as well as providing new information regarding the possible role of MTT in dysphoria and depression.

Studies about the implications of social anxiety in false memoryPalma, Priscila de Camargo 27 August 2012 (has links)
Mnemonic processes are responsible for keeping all human beings life quality and stability. However, research has shown that such processes can present mistakes and distortions which can change the course of life. False memories are memories of situations and events that did not happen exactly as remembered. At first, it was believed that events which happened and had an associated emotional load could not be distorted; however it is now known that such premise is not necessarily true. Moreover, it is known that the level of disadjustment and emotional instability interfere for a greater number of false memories. Anxiety is a normal adaptive response but it becomes pathologic when it is not proportional to the triggering situation. When anxiety is too intense, it tends to harm all spheres of life, and it acquires a clinical meaning. Amongst the anxiety disorders, there is a prevalent diagnosis called Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). This study aims to compare adult participants who suffer from this problem with adult participants who do not have these symptoms, investigating the effect of emotion in memory performance for an event witnessed. To develop this study, a sequence of eleven slides was used, followed by two narrative versions, one with emotional impact and the other without, besides the Subjective Scale of Emotion, a self-test for memory. The study had 137 participants, who were divided into four groups: individuals who do not suffer from the disorder and emotionally loaded narrative, individuals who do not suffer from the disorder and narrative without emotional load, individuals who suffer from the disorder and emotionally loaded narrative, individuals who suffer from the disorder and narrative without emotional load. Parametrical analysis was carried out using the Variance analysis (ANOVA). All the statistical treatments used an < 0,05 for the hypothesis test and post hoc tests with correction for Bonferroni to identify the possible differences found. The results suggest that participants with SAD who were submitted to a version without emotional impact had higher rates of real memories, according to attentional bias characteristic of this population. Besides, the participants who suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) had higher rates of false memories who were submitted to a version without emotional impact, suggesting that emotion acted as a protection and suggesting that the social anxiety has a significant action over memory performance.

O intelectual de Edward Said em Memórias do cárcere de Graciliano Ramos / The intellectual from Edward Said in Memories of prison by Graciliano RamosFernandes, Amanda Nascimento 03 September 2015 (has links)
This study aims to present the results of symmetry between the intellectual exposed by Edward Said in the work Memories of prison by Graciliano Ramos. The role of the intellectual in society has always been open to question and Edward Said presented a modern model and engaged of this class, whose main mission is to represent the most oppressed. The significance of this study is by trying to find and describe the harmony that exists between the ideas of Edward Said and the conduct of Graciliano Ramos in the period when he was arrested and after arrest as well. The objective is to outline and understand who is the figure that Said mark as engaged intellectual and modern able to understand social problems and, through their ideas, trying to ease them, highlighting the real difficulties that affect the poor societies. In addition, through understanding of the exposed individual as an intellectual by Said, present the behaviors of Graciliano Ramos in Memories of prison that connects them to this intellectual. The hypothesis is that, even in different situations, Edward Said and Graciliano Ramos have points in common and, from their ideas, can give voice to those around their in any way, maintaining their principles and not letting influenced by factors that do not correspond to their ideals.

Quilombo BoqueirÃo da Arara, CearÃ: memÃrias, histÃrias e prÃticas educativas / Quilombo BoqueirÃo da Arara, CearÃ: istories, memories and educational practicesTania Gorayeb Sucupira 18 September 2015 (has links)

MemÃrias da Cantoria: Palavra, Performance e PÃblico / Memories of the Cantoria: Word, Performance and PublicSimone Oliveira de Castro 02 June 2009 (has links)
In this work, I analyze what meanings the singing assumes for singers and listeners who, under the pressure of different forms of communication and amusement in the âmodern timesâ, address their experiences and subjectivities for the creation and understanding of an art that takes place mainly through the sung and improvised words to the sound of the viola.
The singing, through words, of the singerâs voice seems to have the power to act, to shuffle the memories of the listeners, causing a sensation of pleasure and identification with what is being lived and sung. To reach those meanings, I focus on the maturation route of the singer, who gains configuration by being sure that he/she has a âgiftâ, which added to aspects of the broader social atmosphere, becomes developed and acclaimed before the publicâs acceptance. The public is a fundamental piece in the poetic creation of the singing.
Nowadays, those singers circulate more often between the rural and urban universes, having contact with different contexts, languages, and communication means. Thus, causing changes and updates in their poetic performance, which in turn is reflected in the creation of strategies to keep his/her relationship with the public, which used to be more of a body-to-body contact, going through other mediations, such as the radio, TV, CD, and DVD that increase the reach of singing significantly.
The memories of singers and listeners express displacements and re-meanings of that art, translating a poetic universe that gathers different experiences and traditions. Thus, singers and listeners go recreating and giving life to singing; because it symbolizes his/her form of communication with the world. From the countryside to the city, the singersâ route evokes similarities that reach even the youngest generations: the children of country parents who used to make a living on plantations certainly own a âgiftâ, and have long lived with a universe of entertainment full of singings, reisados, puppets, patron saint parties and sambas (forrÃs) as the main representatives, prejudices and combats to the wandererâs stereotype thoroughly reproduced in the social context. And at last, it engenders a cultural dispute that is effective until the present time.

Negotiating Deng Lijun : collective memories of popular music in Asia during the Cold War periodCheng, Chen-Ching January 2016 (has links)
This study uses the pop music scene as a tool to analyse contemporary cultural history in Asia, with a focus on the cold-war and post-cold war period (1960s-1990s). The primary objective is to present how Pan-Chinese music shaped peoples’ collective memories in Asia and to investigate issues such as cultural history identification, cultural worship, colonisation, nostalgia, and how these influence each other. The secondary objective is to analyse which factors can influence peoples’ collective memories, since similar pop music and historical backgrounds in Asia can be located. A particular focus is Deng Lijun (also known as Teresa Teng) (1964-1995) who is considered the most influential popular singer able to transcend ideological barriers in Asia. Through in-depth interviews carried out in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan during 2010, audience perceptions focusing on Deng Lijun's personality, music and performances were recorded and analysed in order to create focal points regarding the collective memory of her work. The main interest of this thesis is not only her role as a singer, but also her ability to capture different cultural imaginations, to initiate processes of identification and to transcend different country’s frontiers (Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, South-East Asia and Japan), particularly since these countries champion different ideological perspectives. Her fame and commercial success had a huge cultural impact, and as a result she was the first cultural carrier to break the boundaries of the Cold-War era in Asia. Apart from examining the social, cultural and political factors that influence pop music, the industry behind it and shared audience memories, the focal point of the thesis is to draw attention to aspect of time by examining how the cold war in Asia reconstructed pop music’s cultural symbols and how these symbols were transformed through different ideological structures and facets. Using the information gathered from interviews and archives, this study explores the role of popular music in political struggles between warring ideologies and shows how those struggles both informed and were informed by the sentimental songs of a global popular music idol.

Library support for historical and persistent data structures in non-volatile memoriesChatzistergiou, Andreas January 2016 (has links)
In the context of emerging non-volatile memory (NVM) where data structures can persist in-memory and are accessed through CPU loads and stores, we study how to efficiently manage data evolution. This is an extensively applied problem in both the scientific and business domains and is rapidly becoming an important component for a wider range of applications. We argue that the best way to achieve a smoother transition to the new programming model is to design a solution that is non-intrusive and generic i.e. not bound to a specific data model. We propose a novel library-level approach where the user can manage historical data directly from programming language code. This is achieved with a combination of two software layers: REWIND and VARIANT. At the bottom, lies REWIND (REcovery Write-Ahead System for In- Memory Non-Volatile Data Structures) which handles the low level specifics of NVM by dealing with write-ordering problems that arise in such context and allows recoverability of arbitrary data structures. Then, VARIANT (Versioning ARbItrary dAta structures in Non-volatile memory for Time-travel) focuses on versioning and time travel (moving between versions). We adopt a logging approach and we tightly integrate both systems for best performance by utilizing a common physical log of memory operations. With REWIND, we propose a novel recoverable log structure that permits atomic and durable appends and removals of log records. This is the keystone for building recoverable systems on top of NVM. Because latencies in recent NVM technologies such as Phase-change memory (PCM) are asymmetric, we propose novel techniques for reducing the write pressure of the recoverable log as well as mitigating the effect of synchronization control primitives such as memory fences (enhanced for NVM), i.e. barriers that enforce ordering and persistence to preceding instructions. We also propose different implementations for trading logging performance for rollback performance when this is appropriate. Finally, we revisit state-of-the-art recovery algorithms for the new context given the different latencies and synchronization control. Our results clearly indicate that current approaches for recoverability are ill-fitted for persisting data structures in the new context and it is possible to achieve low-overhead logging with customized mechanisms. Next, we focus on data evolution. We expose a simple API that allows versioning and time travel with minimal intrusiveness. We propose mechanisms for efficient and transparent cloning of Versionable data structures. This allows high concurrency since past images are returned as copies of the original data structure which remains intact. Then, we propose novel indexing techniques that significantly improve time travel performance as well as cloning with lazy schemes. We achieve a low overhead architecture by employing a mix of volatile and non-volatile data structures as well as hybrid structures that reside in both volatile and non-volatile memories. We perform an extensive evaluation of the proposed techniques and conclude that, in our context, by carefully mitigating the drawbacks of physical logging it is possible to create efficient systems for managing data evolution that are both data structure agnostic and non-intrusive.
