Communication strategies of women principals of secondary schools

Thakhathi, Tshilidzi 01 1900 (has links)
This study focuses on the conununication strategies of women principals in secondary schools. It highlights the role of conununication in management by examining the purpose of conununication, communication process, barriers to effective communication and the types of communication, which are verbal and nonverbal communication. The study, further highlights that communication in management may be affected by the differences in communication styles of women and men. It further shows that while differences in communicative styles can be attributed to many factors, socialisation into gender positions is a major factor that leads to gender communication differences. Though socialisation is one of the factors shaping communication of men and women, post-structuralists also argue that children who are socialised are not just passive recipients. During socialisation each person is active in taking up discourses through which she or he is shaped. The socialisation, starts at home, then to school and also the community. Children develop sex-appropriate speech in different communities. A single case study explored the conununication strategies of a woman principal in the Northern Province, South Africa. Reputational sampling was used for the selection of the participants and site. Data gathering was done by means of interviews [with the principal and six teachers], observation and document analysis. Findings suggest that a woman principal's communication is shaped by the context in which she is a woman, mother, wife, African, educational manager and as an individual with her own unique personality. Women managers in rural contexts experience cultural barriers to communication as women are not expected to talk much and should appear to know little in the presence of men. Women are also not supposed to conununicate non-verbally by keeping eye contact, using more space and using facial expression. In this study, a woman manager emerges as a good communicator who overcomes cultural barriers by even practicing what is not traditionally acceptable. The woman principal prefers personal encounters as channels of communication and as an African, she overcomes language barriers by using mother-tongue when speaking with staff and students. In general. this study found that the woman principal preferred human-oriented communication strategies, and endeavoured to conquer cultural barriers to communication. / Educational Leadership and Management / D.Ed.

Claassens, Susandra Jacoba 31 March 2007 (has links)
The Mesopotamian inscriptions and collections in ancient Mesopotamia consist of different meanings extended over long time-periods and with social, political, economic and ethnic differences. Scholars in determining whether the texts are an authentic source for Mesopotamian law traditions developed different theories and each of these theories has different variations. In a literature study to obtain if the inscriptions and collections are an authentic source, the different theories and methodologies of the inscriptions and collections were mentioned and the inscriptions and collections were tested in accordance with the characteristics of the Mesopotamian law traditions. Until new interpretation of documents of daily activities and legal activities, which can prove, that these texts are an authentic source, the interpretation of the collections and inscriptions on the legal issues of ancient Mesopotamians must be applied with caution and studied together with the greater corpus of cuneiform texts. / Old Testament and Ancient Near East Studies / M.A. (Ancient Near East Studies)

Diagnostiese waarde van skooltekeninge as projeksiemedium / The diagnostic value of school drawings as projection medium

Breytenbach, Frieda 11 1900 (has links)
The primary school child finds himself in a phase of great change which makes high demands and requires adjustments. What happens to the child during these years is critical because these are foundation laying years. Because a child is not always able to verbalise problems which he may experience, this study is an . endeavour to determine whether school drawings have any diagnostic value to identify a child in need. The empirical study has confirmed that school drawings have diagnostic value not only as a medium of identification, but also as a supplementary orthopedagogical medium. The child· tends to project his problems, perceptions and attitude visually. Although this study confirms findings of previous studies, certain differences were also identified. The study was concluded with guidelines for the use of school drawings, as well as recommendations regarding the refinement of this projection medium. / Psychology of Education / M. Ed. Komunikace v organizacích / Communication in Organizations

Tomíčková, Marta January 2012 (has links)
6 Abstract This thesis aims to offer a comprehensive view of corporate communication while emphasizing its importance for everyday life of corporations and achievement of their strategic targets. The thesis introduces potential interpretations of corporate communication with the main focus on key moments of corporate communication as well as on consequences non-effective communication has on employee satisfaction and their life in the corporation. In the thesis I opted for the method of compilation and comparison of professional literature along with expert interviews which reveal the quality of internal communication in two selected corporations and prove one-sided view of communication inside corporations. The first part of the thesis provides a detailed look at characteristics of individual communication forms, knowledge of these characteristics being the cornerstone of further research in corporate communication. Besides, this part also describes the principles of active listening, a skill which is frequently omitted from the communication skill list. The second part deals with potential interpretations and divisions of corporate communication in professional literature and offers a thorough account of internal communication and its individual aspects. The following part looks at communication between...

Auto-fala em simulação de esportes: comparação dos efeitos de reforçamento diferencial e instrução no desempenho de iniciantes / Self-talk in simulated sports: comparison of the effects of differential reinforcement and instruction in the performance of beginners

Cillo, Eduardo Neves Pedrosa de 06 April 2011 (has links)
The sport initiation has been the focus of several studies in the areas of Sports Science and Sports Psychology. The acquisition of skills, such as a specific area, has also concentrated efforts of many researchers. Behavior Analysis applied to these fields have much to offer. Studies on verbal behavior, specifically, can contribute substantially to the solution of problems in the relationship between teachers / trainers and beginners. A procedure often used and described in specific literature is self-talk, which consists of verbalizations issued for a speaker, and he himself as a listener. Sporting environments are usually complex, with regard to the availability of stimuli, providing difficulties related to concentration. Self-talk, as described and explained in literature, just having the function of helping the athlete to select relevant stimuli for sports tasks, facilitating the establishment of discrimination. The present study investigated the effect of isolated self-talk procedures on the acquisition of skills in simulated sports with seven adolescents with no prior experience in training with the simulated sports and / or equipment. We used the video game console Wii in skills training in baseball batting, and throwing the ball in bowling. The data suggested that participants who used the verbal procedures, showed superior performance compared to those who did not. We also performed a comparison between two different procedures for self-talk: differentially reinforced and instructed. We found differences in performance, but not as significant as the differences between the participants who took advantage of verbal procedures and those who did not

Enseignement de la communication non verbale par la vidéo authentique en classe de FLE en Libye / Teaching non-verbal communication by the authentic video in class of FFL in Libya

Miqil, Salem 12 December 2016 (has links)
Referring to the communication to the expression of a vast universe of beliefs and behaviors that are expressed interactively and / or non-interactively, thanks to sensitive and / or intelligible systems. When these beliefs and behaviors, and their forms of expression, are shared by a group of people, we are facing the concept of culture. Thus, foreign students must acquire the essential skills that will enable them to communicate with people of another culture : they will then know, understand and, if possible, acquire all of the information characterizing this culture, that is their verbal and non-verbal activities, their beliefs and communication systems. Nonverbal communication is a vast field within the cultural system of communication, concerning all signs and linguistic signs systems that are used to communicate. The importance of the integration of signs and systems incorporating non-verbal communication in the curricula of FFL (French as a Foreign Language) is reported and included in the European Framework of Reference for Languages : learning, teaching, assessing (Council of Europe, 2001). In the chapter about the use of language, the CEFRL recommends taking into account the skills that students must acquire concerning the actions and gestures used with words (verbal and nonverbal communication), and the situations in which the students will have to implement these skills. Furthermore, it is stated that foreign language learners must be able to identify, recognize and understand the behaviors of paralinguistic, gestural, proxemics and facial expressions of the target language (Council of Europe, 2001: 72-73). The main objective of this study is to select non-verbal signs in the broadest sense for the application to the teaching and learning of the FFL for a Libyan public. In the classroom, these elements can be introduced using video documents representing authentic situations so that learners can observe non-verbal signs and re-use them correctly when intercultural contacts

Francisco Rabal a través de la prensa. Análisis del tratamiento periodístico (1951-2001)

Blaya Mengual, Miguel Ángel 09 July 2007 (has links)
Newspaper investigation guaranteed by the construction and the desconstruction of documents , bearers of the social echo of a character, Francisco Rabal, who neither went unnoticed by the society, the stages and the sets, nor can be ignored by the cinema history and annals, the theatre and the performance in general. Specific methods of social investigation of qualitative, descriptive and interpretative nature have been used: press contents analysis in a rigorous research about the journalistic processing, seen the former in the scene of the universe of the message and considered the latter so much by itself as from the newspaper prospect, in which the non verbal communication, the value of the icon acquires an extreme importance.People interested in these investigations will find a very valid tool: the conjunction of journalism and sociology for the result to offer that cross view only set in the context of Human Sciences.
