Human Computation is an approach that uses humans to get more satisfactory results in areas where current computational infrastructures cannot meet properly. Several
techniques and applications have been developed to support this approach and some of
them use financial rewards as a stimulus to individuals, while others make use of games
specifically designed to support a particular task and, at the same time, as a means to
increase the participation and engagement of his participants. This study describes the
results of an experiment that used regular games, not associated with any specific task
or activity, created just for entertainment, as a reward for these individuals. Our results
show that games are an effective means of stimulating the involvement in the execution
of Human Computations.

da usabilidade da interface considerada / The purpose of this research was double fold: (i) conceiving and parameterizing a semantic approach for evaluating visual and design aspects of human-computer interfaces of digital games; (ii) integrating it into the multi-method approach conceived by Queiroz (2001). Such a research effort can be justified by the contextual particularities of this
software application category with regard to other ones, mainly in what
concerns use motivation and, the consequent need for a specific usability
evaluation approach. The research is also justified by expanding the scope
of the original approach, considering, in addition to the syntactic aspects,
the aspects of meaning and understanding. The approach was validated
from a case study, involving the digital game Hearthstone: Heroes of
Warcraft, in which the impact of the inclusion of the semantic component
on the evaluation process was investigated. Thus, two experiments were
performed, with 30 users each. In the first group, only the syntactic
component of evaluation was considered, consisting of: (i) heuristic
evaluation, (ii) measurement of performance of use and (iii) subjective
satisfaction of the user. In the second group, the semantic component of
evaluation was incorporated into the multi-method approach. The
research method was mixed, aiming at the collection of data of a
qualitative and quantitative nature, under a theoretical-pragmatic
premise. The comparison of the results obtained by the considered
evaluation strategies revealed positive impacts and contributions of and
including semantic aspects to the original approach. This makes it possible
to enrich the usability evaluation process of a game interface, by
producing complementary and more robust results.

Previous issue date: 2007-05-02 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This work is an exploratory study on entertainment messages processing. The objective of this work was to test a model of message processing dedicated to understand
digital games. In order to accomplish the objective an extensive research on the observational
techniques was conducted in order to analyze the final user s reaction upon software and different kinds of media, thus learning the qualities and limitations of each technique. Another research was conducted on the message processing models on new and traditional media. The
result made possible to propose a new model for analysis of entertainment message processing. The development methodology required empirical tests. With this in mind a data
collection tool was structured. Later, the tool was tested with digital gamers of different ages on their personal PCs and on an interactive digital television, thus finding how the different elements correlate. The following step of this research was to collect data from gamers used to play games
on cell phones. The objective with this was to collect data on the users experience in a media that has several limitations such as size of the screen and size of the keyboard, to name a few. The research result was that games played at media such as a PCs attract their users for its aesthetics aspects, while games played on a cellular phone depend highly on its ability to be interactive - much more so than a game played on a PC. With the results it is possible to say that entertainment message processing rely upon the designer s ability to understand the limitation of each media and adequately construct the elements that compose the game s
setting, thus guaranteeing the approval of its target.(AU) / O trabalho é um estudo exploratório sobre o processamento de mensagens de entretenimento.

This paper deals with the writing of History in two digital games based on the theme of the French Revolution. The artifacts analyzed were Tríade: liberty, equality and fraternity and Assassin's Creed Unity. The first, produced by the University of the State of Bahia (UNEB) in the context of a public call for government funding of digital games with educational destinations. The second, developed by one of the world’s greatest creator studios of digital games. The aim of the research focused on the analysis of the concepts of time and History presented in both products, so that it may contribute to teachers who wish to use them as a teaching-learning resource in the teaching of History. To conduct the survey, it was necessary to play them under a closer look at the images, the soundscape and interactive narrative, characteristics of this type of digital device. The research results suggest that there are similarities in the concepts of History in the two games, as both have a certain attachment to a kind of History of great men and great events. However, in a positive way, the educational game has a female character as the protagonist of the narrative, unlike the commercial in which is essentially male. On the other hand, the game produced by the large studio, has a complex design of time, presenting to the player multiple simultaneous time frames, but the educational game has a predominantly linear conception of historical time. It is essential, therefore, when using as a didactic-pedagogic resource in teaching History, teacher intervention to remedy the limitations of these devices, so that students build historical knowledge.

An English Language Learning Experience in a public schoolRodrigues, Jeanne Jesuíno Cardoso 30 June 2017 (has links)
Nesse contexto, o presente trabalho
A ênfase,
Portanto, as
Due to the great advancement of digital technologies in recent years, the use of technological
resources in schools has increased considerably. Likewise, the production and consumption of
digital games have expanded, reached a very high level of popularity, and are increasingly
present in our daily lives. However, it is possible to observe that, even with its popularization,
we still find resistance regarding the use of these technological resources as learning tools,
especially when dealing with games. In this context, the present work aimed to analyze the
potential of the use of digital games for English language learning, with students from the 8th
and 9th years of elementary school in a public school in Uberlândia, as well as to map the
students' conceptions about the insertion and use of games and technology resources in
English classes. It was also intended to analyze how the use of digital games in English
language classes could influence students’ learning opportunities, as well as identify what
could be learned about the English language through a digital game. The game chosen by the
students and used in this study was League of Legends, a commercial game developed by
Riot Games. In relation to the methodology, this work fits as a qualitative research, of an
interpretative nature. Data were collected through semi-structured questionnaire, reports of
experiences written by the students after the game sessions and a collective interview with the
participants. The analyses were carried out based on studies that deal with the use of digital
technologies for language teaching, the relevance of learners' beliefs in this process and also
their technological profile. The emphasis, however, has been on studies on game-based
learning, especially on Gee's (2005) "good games" principles. The results showed that the
participants of this research fit the profile of digital natives (PRENSKY, 2001, 2011) and of
tech-comfy (PEGRUM, 2009), since they are constantly connected and well acquainted with
technological resources. In addition, students were unanimous in stating that they believe that
it is possible to learn English through digital games, and that digital technologies can favor
such learning. However, I also noticed that this use is not yet normalized in school, and that,
despite having access to these resources, they are not yet fully exploited in this environment,
which is contrary to the digital reality of our society. After the experience of the game
sessions, the participants reported that they noticed an improvement in their linguistic
performance, especially in reading and writing skills. They also confirmed the power that
digital games have of stimulating, provoking and motivating their players. Therefore, learning
opportunities that emerge in this context are more likely to be meaningful for students. / Dissertação (Mestrado)

Undersökning av narrativa strukturer inom olika medier.Högberg, Emma, Finsberg, Jonatan January 2018 (has links)
This Bachelor Thesis aims to explore and create a deeper understanding of various narrative structures and techniques found in literature, film and digital games. This has been done by answering the question how one can apply narrative structures and techniques from literature and film in a digital game. To answer this question, we have developed a digital game that uses different narrative structures and techniques that are more common in literature and films. For this, we used the MDA-framework methodology as well as the story writing methods The Snowflake Method and The Fantasy Fiction Formula. This thesis shows how a story in a digital game, using a number of narratological concepts, can make use of narrative structures and techniques from literature and film. The Snowflake Method proved useful, but not adapted for this type of writing. Due to time limitations we were not able to use as many structures and techniques from films as we wanted to.

Previous issue date: 2018-10-04 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Today’s math teachers have had a great challenge in recent times, to make the learners of
the digital age adequately develop logical reasoning in mathematics. The use of digital games
as an auxiliary tool in the teaching of mathematics has been a subject much debated by
teachers of several study segments in the present time. The challenge has been to minimize
dispersion in class and lack of interest on the part of students seeking to reduce repetition as
well as early school dropout. This work aims to know and analyze the reality of the use of
these new learners of the digital age by information technologies and communication as well
as by electronic games. From the analysis of the results, duly based on reality data, we
developed and presented the prototype of na digital game aimed at providing both teachers
and students an optional auxiliary tool for the teaching-learning process of the mathematical
discipline. The methodology used was the bibliographical review and searches on the internet
where fundamental concepts were presented to contextualize and to understand the study.
The study method was the case study. Data were collected through a questionnaire with
closed questions applied to 222 students of the 6th grade of basic education. After the
statistical treatment of the data, it was verified that the majority of the students of this
research have an equipment of information and communication as well as connection to the
Internet. It was also found that students spend more time playing electronic games than
studying and would like an environment where they could study and play together.
Pedagogical policies must be taken for the implementation and use of information and
communication technologies in classrooms to reach the students of this new era in order to
minimize the repetition and early school dropout that has brought great damages to the
current society.
onde pudessem estudar e jogar concomitantemente.
