GEOGRAFISK KARTERING AV RÖRLIGT FRILUFTSLIV : MÖJLIGHETER ATT BIDRA TILL EN VÄGLEDNING / Geographical mapping of outdoor recreation : Opportunities to contribute to a guidanceSnöbohm, Johanna January 2019 (has links)
Biodiversity and thus the delivery of ecosystem services are declining, and future climate change is expected to accelerate the process. By mapping ecosystem services and the benefits they provide to humans, one can shed light on the value of nature, and help create incentives in protecting and preserving it. The opportunity for outdoor recreation, an important ecosystem service in Sweden, has a social value as it contributes to human health and wellbeing. This study aims at to contributing to a guide for spatially mapping ecosystem services in Sweden, with a focus on outdoor recreation. The result shows that outdoor recreation mappings can be about mapping either natural areas or the people who use them. These are often referred to as supply and demand. A connection is seen between the choice of methods and data, in relation to the aim and focus of the studies. A pattern is revealed in recurring activities in the mappings, resulting in a suggested flow chart for the sequence of activities when mapping outdoor recreation.

Introduction: Outdoor recreation has a strong position in Sweden. Engaging in outdoor recreation is positively charged, includes public health and environmental engagement. When interest in outdoor recreation increases there are reports of garbage problems in natural areas. This suggest that outdoor activities doesn´t promotes environmental commitments. Aim: By investigating how voluntary guides within the Swedish Outdoor Association give reasons for environmental engagement through outdoor recreation, the study aims to create a theoretical model that shows the conditions for pronatural behavior. Method: The study was conducted as a qualitative interview study. 8 guides participated. Through Grounded Theory, an analysis model was designed which in turn constructed a visual theoretical model. Result: Environmental engagement is situational and focus on picking garbage. How environment priority is conducted differs within different types of activities. The more abstract nature becomes, the more difficult it is to relate to environmental engagement. Gaps arise from being environmentally friendly to the actual effort. If commitment takes root outside the organization, this is linked to the outdoor activities, which can include an environmental focus. Discussion: That outdoor recreation promotes environmental engagement is better in thought than in practice. The right of public access should have a clearer environmental position.

Access to outdoor recreational sites for people withdisabilities : A qualitative study on the accessibility to nature for peoplewith disabilities in the region of Borlänge & Falun - Dalarna,SwedenDahlqvist, Oscar January 2021 (has links)
Outdoor recreation or friluftsliv as called in Scandinavia has witnessed anincreased demand where more people venture outdoors to engage in activities innature. It is although not as easy for everyone to engage in these activities due toseveral limiting obstacles. People with disabilities that are confined to a manual orelectric wheelchair require adaptation of the areas to be able to participate. Thereare signs of development due to 10 goals set by the Swedish government for eachmunicipality to work towards. The findings of the study show that there are currentactions to improve accessibility; however; that it is slow process that in cases lackseveral vital considerations. There is an importance to involve people withdisabilities and relevant organizations to work with several important parts forspreading awareness.

Ut i naturen med buss : En studie över kollektivtrafik till naturereservat kring UmeåNordquist, Olga January 2023 (has links)
Leisure activities and outdoor recreation are valuable aspects of people's everyday life. With more people living in cities than ever, access to natural areas is becoming a more relevant issue, and many protected nature areas serve both to preserve biodiversity and make nature accessible to a wider public. Living at a distance to nature increases the need for transportation and previous research show that travel connected to leisure activities, and to outdoor activities in particular, is carried out by car to a higher extent than other travel. With increasing climate change, a shift towards more sustainable transportation is needed. While much research and work has been put into shifting everyday travel to public transport, there is a lack of research and a bigger resistance to change when it comes to leisuretravel. This study investigates the possibility of traveling with bus to nature reserves around Umeå, Sweden, by combining public transport data with data on nature reserves. The analyses are carried out in ArcGIS Pro, using Network Analyst models Route and Service area for six different times on a Saturday between 10.00 am and 11.40 am. The results show that, out of 69 nature reserves in a 50 km radius from the city centre, 24 are reachable within 90 minutes and ten of them within 60 minutes. Further, the study discusses the possibility to exercise popular outdoor activities in these nature reserves. The most common activities are walking and hiking and the findings show that six of the ten nature reserves have roads, paths or tracks that make these activities possible.

Deconstructing Intersectional Oppression in Outdoor Recreation : A case-study of the Feminist Hiking CollectiveConsalter, Laura January 2023 (has links)
This research aims to deconstruct the discretionary character of outdoor recreation, in view of the hegemonic nature of intersectional oppression. Once deconstructed, it also questions how outdoor recreation, inspired the Scandinavian concept of friluftsliv, can become a feminist space for resistance against this oppression. The Feminist Hiking Collective is presented as case-study.

Finding Home in Nature: Nature's Role in Immigrant WeelbeingJabeen, Sehrish January 2023 (has links)
It has been observed in the past few years that a large number of migrants have arrived in Europe. The number of international students who come to Sweden each year is one of the most overlooked groups of immigrants. The immigrant students are experiencing difficulties in their health and wellbeing due to new country settlement challenges. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between immigrant students and their natural environments, focusing in particular on their wellbeing. In order to achieve this objective, a qualitative study of 11 semi structured interviews are conducted on two south Asian groups of immigrants studying in Gothenburg, Sweden. This study investigates how immigrant students cope with challenges in the host country by utilizing natural places. It also investigates how they can improve their psychological and emotional wellbeing by interacting with nature using biophilia and attention restoration theories. There are three primary domains in which immigrant students can establish meaningful relationships with nature and enhance their holistic wellbeing, according to the findings of this study. First, they can embrace nature by spending time in natural places every day. Second, they can participate in nature-based recreation that strengthens their connection with nature, helps them get ready for the challenges of living in a new country, and makes them feel healthy overall. Third, the bond they build with nature through daily interactions and outdoor recreation can improve their psychological and emotional wellbeing.
