Predictors Of Food Insecurity In 3 Central Florida Communities

Towns, Tangela 01 January 2013 (has links)
This study examined the association between different socio-demographic factors and food insecurity in the Central Florida Communities of Maitland, Winter Park, and Eatonville. Data from the Institute for Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Central Florida were utilized to analyze 3 main questions: In which community is food insecurity more prevalent? To what extent are food consumption, transportation, poverty, and unemployment associated with food insecurity? Does the association between food consumption, transportation, poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity remain when controlling for self-reported overall health, education, marital status, and race. The results revealed differences in predictors of food insecurities. Particularly, there was a positive relationship between food consumption and the knowledge of recommended number of servings of fruits and vegetables suggesting that those who have nutritional knowledge practice healthy dietary behaviors. Furthermore, structural dysfunctions and affordability pose food consumption limitations on the communities studied (mainly Eatonville).

Sandberg, Joy January 2018 (has links)

Cost Estimation, Budgeting and OEE Analysis for Binder Jetting at Sandvik Additive Manufacturing Division

Shanawad, Ankita January 2023 (has links)
The master thesis at Sandvik Additive Manufacturing Division, Sandviken, aims at three things. The first step is to estimate the cost of a Binder jet Additive Manufacturing method and identify the key cost drivers in the manufacturing process, since cost estimation can help the organisation to understand the cost factors that are affecting the product's price. Also assisting the sales team to create a foundation to price quote their customers and raise profit margins. Hence the first part of the thesis emphasizes creating an easy-to-use template for the organization's production and sales teams. The second part of the thesis is to provide an Excel sheet that is simple to use for computing the yearly budgets so that it serves as a technique for forecasting impending outflows within the company. Hence, a quarterly and yearly budgeting template that the sales and production team can use at Sandvik AM division is designed. The final objective of this thesis is to establish the Binder Jet machine's Overall Equipment Efficiency key performance indicator. This is done by taking into account availability, performance, and quality. These three factors are tracked from the additive manufacturing machines using an automated OEE Key Performance Indicator calculator that collects data from the build reports into Excel using the power query tool.

Gyllensvärd, Erik January 2021 (has links)
AGES is a company that die-cast aluminum products with various alloys. They mainly produce for the automotive and engineering industries. Currently they have a low total equipment efficiency on two of their machines and they want to find out why. The biggest time losses are the set-up times and that the operators are not noticing when a machine stop has occurred.   The aim of the project was to identify and reduce waste in the production process at AGES and create a basis for future work with SMED and Lean Production.    Through different measurements, different analyzes could be performed such as value flow analysis and OEE-analysis. The analyzes resulted in several improvement proposals, some of which are planned to be implemented. Some will be evaluated and will be implemented as future improvements. The study has also led to an understanding of why machine stops occur and what measures should be taken.    The management at AGES is positive to the results of the study and the improvement proposals. Within SMED, it resulted in a plan for how the tool change can be done to reduce set-up times and how much time can be saved when implemented.

What Makes Travelers Choose Japan Over Other Destinations: The Application of Customer-based Brand Equity Theory and Tourism Xenophilia

Yamazaki, Midori 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Customer-based brand equity (CBBE) has been extensively applied to examine a variety of travelers' behavioral intentions and tourism destination choices. However, from the perspective of competition among destinations, the use of the overall destination brand equity (ODBE) dimension is still in its experimental stage. The objective of this research is to determine the impact of destination brand awareness (DBA), image (DBI), quality (DBQ), and value (DBV) on ODBE. Specifically, this study focuses on the case of Japan tourism from the view of American travelers. Moreover, this study aims to incorporate tourism xenophilia (TXI), which is an emerging concept in tourism study and indicates people's attraction toward the perceived foreignness of destinations. This study investigates the group difference in the CBBE model between low- and high-TXI groups. Throughout an online self-administrative survey on Prolific, 408 questionnaires were gathered for data analysis. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was employed to determine the final measurement items. A series of multiple regression analyses tested the impacts of CBBE dimensions on ODBE and the differences of tourism xenophilic (low TXI vs. high TXI) groups on those relationships. The results of the EFA confirmed five key dimensions in CBEE (DBA, DBI, DBQ, DBV, and ODBE) as expected, except one measurement item (DBA6) excluded from DBA. The results confirm the positive impact of DBA, DBI, and DBV on OBDE, except the impact of DBQ on ODBE. The high TXI group had a stronger impact on the relationship between DBA and ODBE and between DBV and ODBE than the low TXI group, while the impact of DBI on ODBE was stronger with the low TXI group than the high TXI group. Theoretically, this study extended a research framework of CBBE by incorporating ODBE and TXI. It deepens the understanding of TXI and its role in tourists' brand equity evaluation process. Practically, it helps Japanese destination managers design and implement effective international marketing strategies, especially for their primary target market of Americans. Marketing strategies that enhance their social/self-image and the value of travel can be more effective in gaining attention from target markets and persuading travel to Japan rather than appealing to the quality of attractions overall. Furthermore, highlighting cost effectiveness first and gaining awareness second could be one effective way to target high-TXI travelers, while another could be enhancing destination image for low-TXI travelers.

Digital Performance Management: An Evaluation of Manufacturing Performance Management andMeasurement Strategies in an Industry 4.0 Context

Smith, Nathaniel David 22 March 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Manufacturing management and operations place heavy emphasis on monitoring and improving production performance. This supervision is accomplished through strategies of manufacturing performance management, a set of measurements and methods used to monitor production conditions. Over the last thirty years the most prevalent measurement of traditional performance management has been overall equipment effectiveness, a percentile summary metric of a machine's utilization. The technologies encapsulated by Industry 4.0 have expanded the ability to gather, process, and store vast quantities of data, creating opportunity to innovate on how performance is measured. A new method of managing manufacturing performance utilizing Industry 4.0 technologies has been proposed by McKinsey & Company and software tools have been developed by PTC Inc. to aid in performing what they both call digital performance management. To evaluate this new approach, the digital performance management tool was deployed on a Festo Cyber-Physical Lab, an educational mock production environment, and compared to a digitally enabled traditional performance management solution. Results from a multi-day production period displayed an increased level of detail in both the data presented to the user and the insights gained from the digital performance management solution as compared to the traditional approach. The time unit measurements presented by digital performance management paint a clear picture of what and where losses are occurring during production and the impact of those losses. This is contrasted by the single summary metric of a traditional performance management approach, which easily obfuscates the constituent data and requires further investigation to determine what and where production losses are occurring.

Design and Implementation of Downtime Management System for Assembly Production : Software specification and practical challenges / Design och Implementation av ett Störningsanalys System för Monteringsindustrin : Mjukvaruspecifikation och praktiska utmaningar

Dowling, Gustav January 2022 (has links)
The usage of information technology (IT) systems has become an integral part of assembly manufacturing. Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems are widely used in order to control production cycles and monitor equipment such as conveyor belts. Other common IT systems are related to logistics, data analysis, or organizing of incoming and outgoing orders. In this thesis we create a model for the IT systems at the fuel pump and fuel injector manufacturer Scania XPI. One model is developed for the current state of the IT systems at Scania XPI, and one model is developed detailing the future state. The current state model consists of charts showing where in the production process that data is transmitted between which IT systems. This thesis utilizes the current state model in order to suggest improvements to the IT systems. These improvements are detailed in the model for the future state of IT systems at Scania XPI. Overall equipment efficiency (OEE) is a measurement of the performance of an industrial operation based on the percentage of up time running at full capacity compared to the available run time. Measurement of OEE requires that only downtimeduetointernal circumstances within the operation is taken into account, and that any potential quality deviations due to the operation are accounted for. Taking into account the variability of manufacturing processes, this thesis proposes solutions to issues in data processing required to measure the efficiency of operations in assembly manufacturing, such as identifying if process breakdowns are caused by external factors. The proposed solution is a system called "Process data analysis system" (PDAS), which uses the recorded machine statuses throughout operation in order to calculate process downtime and OEE. PDAS was implemented using the incremental waterfall model as a software development methodology. PDAS was evaluated by conducting four groups of experiments and a comparison to the PUS (processuppföljnings system) at Scania XPI. Automatically classifying downtime events as planned or unplanned allows PDAS to give an accurate view on the efficiency of the assembly production. The software can be used at Scania XPI and it’s functionality has been verified on assembly production running in ordinary conditions. We show that software can be developed to process industrial data in order to measure assembly line efficiency. Eventually, design and implementation of a downtime management system for assembly production is achieved as a final product of this thesis.
