Optimization of the sizing and the energy management for a hybrid fuel cell vehicle including fuel cell dynamics and durability constraints / Optimisation du dimensionnement et de la gestion d'énergie d'un véhicule à pile à combustible intégrant les contraintes de dynamiques et de durabilité

Fonseca, Ramon, Naiff da 10 October 2013 (has links)
The hydrogen, through the use of fuel cell stacks (FC), has been increasily considered as an energy possible option for the transport sector. Nevertheless, the technology related to its implementation in fuel cell vehicles has not reached the required maturity level. Therefore, this work intends to deal some of these existing limitations. More precisely, three topics represent the objectives of this work: The optimal sizing of the element present in the fuel cell hybrid vehicle. The development of an optimal energy management strategy oriented for real time applications and including the dynamic constraints of the FC system. The inclusion of the fuel cell durability in the vehicle energy management strategy. The first topic is tackled by the development of a sizing methodology adapted to the fuel cell hybrid vehicle application. Using a systematic approach, the proposed sizing method combine the performance requirements present in the vehicle's technical specifications, optimization algorithms, population mobility behavior and the economic viability of the design. The second assigned objective was developed using an optimization approach for the power split between the battery and the FC system. Through the adoption of a global optimization method allied with a predictive control strategy and the inclusion of the FC system dynamics, it was created an energy management algorithm oriented for real time applications. Finally, the fuel cell durability was included in this work by the integration of its degradation dynamics in the optimization problem, which is related to the vehicle's energy management. Such dynamic represents a constraint that should be taken into account in the power sharing between the FC system and battery

Modélisation réduite de la pile à combustible en vue de la surveillance et du diagnostic par spectroscopie d'impédance / Reduced modeling of PEM Fuel cell with the aim of supervision and diagnosis by impedance spectroscopy

Safa, Mohamad 24 October 2012 (has links)
This PhD thesis focuses on reduced modeling of PEM fuel cell for supervision and diagnosis by impedance spectroscopy. The first part of the document presents the principle of the PEM fuel cell, as well as the state of the art of modeling and of the methods for supervision and diagnosis. The multiscale dynamic model published in 2005 by A.A. Franco is particularly detailed and serves as a starting point. It is simplified, in order to obtain a system of partial differential equations in a single spatial dimension. The second part is devoted to harmonic analysis of the PEM Fuel cell. Inspired by classical work on the geometric analysis of electrochemical reactions networks, a model compatible with thermodynamics is obtained. This class of dynamic systems allows establishing, for such a network, an analytical formula of the impedance of the anode and the cathode of the PEM fuel cell. A complete model of the cell is obtained by connecting these elements to the membrane, diffuse layers and gas diffusion layer. The previous models assumed the PEM Fuel cell represented by a single, homogeneous, cell. In order to describe the possible spatial heterogeneities, we finally propose a result of reduced modeling for the impedance of a cell network. This model approximates the overall impedance of the network by a "mean cell", connected to two cells, put in "serial" and "parallel", and representative of the deviations from the average.

Análise da interação placa-estaca-solo via combinação do Método dos Elementos Finitos com o Método dos Elementos de Contorno / Analysis of the plate-pile-soil interactions by combination of the Finite and Boundary Element Method

Mendonça, Ângelo Vieira 30 April 1997 (has links)
This work presents a hybrid Finite Element/Boundary Element formulation for the analysis of plate-pile-soil interactions problems. In this formulation the plate is modeled by finite elements using DKT (Discrete Kirchhoff Theory) and HSM (Hybrid Stress Model) elements and the soil is modeled as an elastic half space by the boundary element method. The pile is represented by only one element, with 3 nodal points, and shear force along the pile is approximated by a second degree polynomial. The pile-tip stress is assumed to be constant over the cross-section and a further nodal point is located there. The interface plate-soil is divided in a triangular boundary elements mesh coincident with that used in the finite element of the plate and the subgrade traction is assumed to vary linearly across each element. The subgrade tractions are eliminated from the two system of equation obtained with FEM and BEM resulting in the governing system of equation for plate-pile-soil interactions problems. By solving this set of equations the nodal displacements, the load on the piles and the subgrade tractions are calculated. Besides, this formulation allows also analysis several piles groups with and without ground-contacting rigid and flexible caps. Numerical results are presented for plate-soil, pile-soil and plate-pile-soil interactions. In all the results agree closely with those from much more elaborate analysis.

Estudo comparativo de formulações do MEC para análise da interação estaca-solo / Comparative study of BEM formulations for the analysis of pile-soil interaction

Rosa, Alessandra Kiyoko da 01 November 2013 (has links)
For a more accurate analysis of the structural system, it is necessary to study the interactive behavior between the various parts that compose it, among them, there is the interaction between the foundation elements and massive soil. In this work, numerical formulations were developed for the analysis of pile-soil interaction by coupling between different numerical methods: the boundary element method, finite element method and finite difference method. Piles can be subjected to horizontal loads, vertical and moments applied on its top. In these formulations were used in addition to the displacement integral equations, the equations of their derivatives, leading to a higher degree of uniqueness but allowing the adoption of more sophisticated approaches to displacements and contact tractions along the pile. All displacements and their derivatives relating to the pile were matched with the corresponding soil. Developed formulations made due coupling between them were analyzed examples, which were compared with results obtained by other authors, demonstrating its validity.

Valorisation du traitement d'eaux usées à partir de piles à combustibles microbiennes benthiques. / Valorization of wastewater treatment from benthic microbial fuel cells

Hourizadeh, Nicolas 15 December 2015 (has links)
The work described in this document is oriented to enhancing the treatment of wastewater from benthic microbial fuel cell (BMFC) for electricity production. This technology allows the production of electricity from electro-active (EA) microorganisms and carbonated substrate which may be the wastewater.Four types of wastewater from human activity are selected. The presence of EA microorganisms is highlighted by two electrochemical methods. In real conditions, the lagoon environment has the best electrical performance (6.6 mW/m²).The lagoon environment offers the most favorable environment for installation BMFC in-situ. The results show a strong influence of microalgae on the EA biofilms activities and thus on the production of electricity. In lagoon conditions, with a day/night cycle, this production varies according to the lighting cycles. Microalgae bring oxygen necessary for cathode reactions at lower cost. BMFC also improve the consumption of pollutants including organics.Electrical supply by small devices such as sensors necessarily requires an increase of the voltage delivered by BMFC. The different voltage boosting techniques such as series and parallel connections of several units or the use of DC/DC converters are performed and analyzed. A temperature and humidity sensor worked for more than fifteen hours directly powered by a BMFC with a power of 328 µW. Its output voltage is increased by a flyback type DC/DC converter, from 560 mV to more than 5.5 V. The use of PCM in-situ in the lagoon can be an alternative to the power generation and the treatment of wastewater.

Corrosion des aciers dans les sols : mécanismes et cinétiques associés aux périodes transitoires d'humidification-séchage / Corrosion of steel in soil : mechanisms and kinetics associated with transient periods (drying-wetting)

Akkouche, Rym 12 December 2017 (has links)
In 2014, the pipelines network extended over 3500000 km worldwide. These pipes are passing through various continents, regions, areas and thus different types of soils. They are protected against external corrosion by coatings and cathodic protection. However, there is always a slight risk of carbon steel degradation. In order to evaluate the pipeline failure threat, it is necessary to study the influence of soil corrosion on the uncoated steel which composes this pipe. There are many parameters governing the steel corrosion in soils. We focused on one of the most important parameter “water content”. It is directly linked to other prominent parameters such as oxygen concentration, soil resistance and active area. In this thesis, we addressed the phenomena occurring at transitory periods of drying and remoistening in different types of soils : clayey, silt-loamy and sandy. A multi-coupon electrode was used as well in order to study the phenomena linked to surface heterogeneity (formation of differential aeration cells). For this aim, several steel coupons were buried in different types of soil for long periods (4, 6 and 12 months). The corrosion rates are estimated via electrochemical methods by fitting with a theoretical law the voltammetric curves acquired around the open circuit potential. The active area of the electrode was estimated via the determination of the soil electrolyte resistance by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Afterwards, the coupons were analyzed by micro-spectroscopy Raman, X-rays diffraction and microscopy in order to understand the corrosion mechanisms. Results showed that in case of very high moisture content and deaerated conditions, the corrosion rates were very weak (about 20 to 30 µm.yr-1) but reached 200 to 400 µm.yr-1 in the drying periods. The galvanic current measurements performed with the multi-coupon electrode and the surface analysis of the conventional electrodes both confirmed the presence of differential aeration cells and the localized nature of the corrosion.

Lebreton, Carole 04 December 2015 (has links)
Fuel Cell (FC) development is expending due to global energy transition. Power generation using FC results in water and heat as by-products, without emission of greenhouse gases. To continue developing and expanding its use as power generators, FC lifetime and reliability have to be enhanced. This thesis work is dedicated to Fault Tolerant Control System (FTCS) applied to water management in PEM Fuel Cells. An appropriate water management of FC allow to avoid irreversible degradations of FC components and performance that lead to an improvement of FC reliability and lifetime. The proposed FTCS is composed of a model-based diagnosis method applied to fault detection and isolation, and a self-tuning PID strategy for oxygen excess ratio control. This strategy is tested and validated on-line on a real FC system.

Analyse et simulation de mouvements d'atteinte contraints en position et orientation pour un humanoïde de synthèse / Analysis and simulation of human reaching motion with position and rotation constraints for humanoid synthesis

Datas, Adrien 09 July 2013 (has links)
The simulation of human movement is an active theme of research, particularly in ergonomic analysis to aid in the design of workstations. The aim of this thesis concerns the automatic generation of reaching tasks in the horizontal plane for a virtual humanoid. An objective expressed in the task space, requires coordination of all joints of the mannequin. The main difficulties encountered in the simulation of realistic movements is related to the natural redundancy of the human. Our approach is focused mainly on two aspects: - Motion of the hand's operator in the task space (spatial and temporal aspect), - Coordination of all kinematic chains. To characterize human movement, we conducted a set of motion capture with position and orientation constraints of the hand in the horizontal plane. These acquisitions allowed to know the spatial and temporal evolution of the hand in the task space, for translation and rotation aspects. These acquired data were coupled with a playback method to analyze the intrinsic relations that link the task space to joint space of the model. The automatic generation scheme of realistic motion is based on a stack of task with a kinematic approach. The assumption used to simulate the action is to follow the shortest path in the task space while limiting the cost in the joint space. The scheme is characterized by a set of parameters. A global map of parameter adjustment enables the simulation of a class of realistic movements. Finally, this scheme is validated quantitatively and qualitatively with comparison between the simulation and the human gesture.

Unified semiempirical methodology for estimating the load capacity of piles.

Kurt André Pereira Amann 27 August 2010 (has links)
The research starts from the fact that the semiempirical methods for estimating the pile load capacity shouldn\'t be used indiscriminately in any country\'s region without making proper adjustments to the local soil characteristics. It is verified, from this, that there are no specific methodologies to make such adjustments and the geotechnical engineers find themselves forced to perform a simple classification of the methods in \"conservative\" or \"against the safety\", which constitutes a form of paradigm. In this context, this paper proposes a Unified Semiempirical Methodology (MSU) in three steps. In the first, the designer estimates the foundation load capacity from the optimization of best practices adopted by different semiempirical methods used in Brazil. A discussion is also made the toe embedment and the creation of new semiempirical methods. In the second step, the verification of the foundation performance is carried out, based on the failure criteria applied to the load-settlement curve of load tests. At this step, the inaccuracies from that paradigm are outlined and a new proposal is made for applying the failure criteria. In the third step, a backanalysis is accomplished to admeasure the unified semiempirical estimative from the first step. It is, thus, proposed to separate both shaft friction and toe resistance from the total load, by means of load transfer methods, and by the proposal of polynomial adjustments in the case of instrumented piles. With the critical analysis of this process, a new mathematical approach to load transfer is presented. The correction of the coefficients of the semiempirical methods is made by the application of the Soils\'s Hierarchy concept (AMANN, 2000). The results of semiempirical methods correction, however, are specific to the soils of each particular site. The applicability, of the proposed methodology, is illustrated using pile load tests from various parts of the country.

Avaliação dos parâmetros físicos, químicos e microbiológicos dos fertilizantes orgânicos produzidos pelas técnicas de compostagem e vermicompostagem da fração orgânica dos resíduos sólidos urbanos coletada em estabelecimentos alimentícios de São Carlos/SP / Evaluation of physical, chemical and microbiological parameters of an organic fertilizer produced by the composting and vermicomposting of organic fraction of municipal solid wastes collected in São Carlos city

Guermandi, Júlia Inforzato 02 October 2015 (has links)
Despite the presence of high levels of organic matter in household wastes and the implementation of composting for organic wastes provided by the National Policy on Solid Waste (Law No. 12,305/10), the composting practice as a treatment is still incipient in Brazil. This study aimed at the selective collection of the organic fraction of municipal solid wastes (OFMSW) produced in 19 establishments in São Carlos city for use in composting and vermicomposting techniques. The first stage of the study consisted in an investigation on the adaptation to the segregation system proposed and evaluation of the owners\' perceptions regarding the separation of organic waste and composting through questionnaires. The second stage was devoted to the composting. The collected waste was deposited onto four cylindrical piles of 1.2 m diameter and 1 m height. The treatments evaluated in each pile were trituration and turning, no trituration and turning, no trituration and no turning (control), and no trituration and no turning of PVC pipes. The monitoring and statistical analysis of the physical, chemical and microbiological parameters revealed differences and similarities in each treatment. The third stage started after the stabilization of the compost. Five hundred earthworms of Eisenia foetida specie were inoculated in 20-25 kg of compost taken from two piles and the same parameters of the previous step were monitored. In step 2, the turning influenced the maintenance of the thermophilic stage for longer periods, humidity correction, values of pH, nitrogen, C/N relation, WRC, metals, micro and macronutrient and particle size. Except for the particle size, trituration exerted little influence on the parameters. The lowest temperatures were recorded in a pile composed of PVC pipes. It can be concluded that only the second step was sufficient for the achievement of legal limits for organic fertilizers and the benefits of vermicomposting as a post treatment technique (step 3) are related to the increase in the agronomic properties of soil fertility.
