"Negócios de Trapaça: caminhos e descaminhos na América Portuguesa (1700-1750)" / Swindling Affairs: Going Right or South in Portuguese America (1700-1750)

Oliveira Junior, Paulo Cavalcante de 24 May 2002 (has links)
This study brings to light the going astray of Portuguese America (1700-1750), departing from the assumption that this waywardness is a social practice, not only part and parcel, but also influential in the constitution of that colonial society. This waywardness is not only confined to robbery, theft, or corruption but it also configures a kind of practice, covered up by official formalities, that is notwithstanding radically active and penetrating, irradiated by society as a whole, including slaves, shaping and redefining it, affirming and denying it, that is to say, affirming it by denying it - in short, walking on the path of waywardness.

This research understands that geographic location and its characteristics are not the factors that determine the perpetuation of this reality. We understand that the relations of power, between the State and private power, contribute to this recurrence. Thus, based on the analysis of public policy, Citizenship Territory Programs, we investigate how they occur in space. For that, a bibliographical research was carried out, data collection in secondary sources; field research to obtain primary data. Based on theoretical analysis and empirical research, we have identified that power relations influence and are decisive in the effectiveness of public policies aimed at rural development. The absence of the appropriation and understanding of society in relation to public policies are perceived in regions where Colonelism, Clientelism, Patrimonialism, has in its methodology the core of perpetuation of the existing social inequalities, not rupture with the model of landed concentration in the Brazil. In this way, it is important and necessary to rethink how to elaborate and formulate actions that promote the rupture with this mechanism of governing Brazil, in its various scales, beyond the reality found in the North-east of Goiania, specifically in the Territory of the Paranã Valley Citizenship.

Ullrich, Danielle Regina January 2014 (has links)
This thesis aims to contribute, in the light of the principles and postulates of social management, to the comprehension of the process of construction of knowledge in the field of international cooperation to South-South development. Therefore, the theoretical construction that supports our study covers: (i) the international cooperation for development as a field of power, in which we can practice two ways of cooperation: North-South and South-South; (ii) some disputes in this field are powered by a world-system, in which central countries exert their power of hegemonic mode by replicating, through North-South cooperation, the neoliberal logic for the semi-peripheral and peripheral countries, as well as enforcing an intellectual domination, from an Eurocentric vision, in a context of coloniality of knowledge; (iii) also that in an attempt to intend to the field of international development cooperation, the semi-peripheral and peripheral countries have teamed up to build South-South political concept, which bases the modality of South-South cooperation that, theoretically, provides respect for historical, social and cultural singularities of each country; (iv) among international interventions for the promotion of "development", North-South international cooperation transfers scientific knowledge to peripheral countries, in the name of scientific progress and "development"; (v) that there is no universal model to promote development, which requires respect for particularities of each society; (vi) that overcoming adversities that characterize the situation of peripheral countries requires consideration and respect for local knowledge, in a process of collective construction of knowledge; (vii) that the process of construction of knowledge establishes the respect for the diversity of an epistemological world, proposing the ecology of knowledge in terms of Santos (2008), where there is the work of translation, in which the experiences and knowledge of society are connected to scientific knowledge to provide new and suitable knowledge according to the social reality of each society; (viii) that the relations established in the field of international development cooperation are power relations, and therefore, need to be managed; (ix) that the adoption of the concept of social management is pertinent to discuss relations in the field of international development cooperation, since it has covered the social and political dimension of relations, in addition to the technical dimension. Based on these theoretical postulates, this thesis investigated and reviewed the cooperation agreement between Brazil and Cape Verde, in the area of education, for the implementation of the Master's degree in Public Administration in Cape Verde. The results showed that, to build knowledge in the field of international development cooperation, it is necessary to respect the challenge of time and the inherent challenge in the learning process. Which implies in recognizing the time of others, which is not the linear time advocated by modern world-system, necessarily, as well as to carry out the translation, through which the experiences and knowledge of societies link scientific knowledge generated at the University, building new and adequate knowledge tailored to the social reality of each community. However, it implies treating each project as the only international cooperation since it brings agents constituted both by different worldviews as different historical, social, economic and political contexts.

Désir, sexualité et rapport de domination : la constitution des regard(s) féminin(s) dans le cinéma brésilien contemporain / Desire, sexuality and power relations : the constitution of female gaze(s) in contemporary brazilian cinema

Neri O'Neill, Raquel 21 September 2018 (has links)
The present thesis is a study of contemporary Brazilian cinema focused on the constitution of female gazes. This study is based on film analysis and aims to describe an aesthetic model in opposition to the dominant (male) gaze that structures the majority of film production. It develops a perspective that distinguishes itself from classical feminist theory, by means of a shift in focus from the historically consecrated pair of opposites (masculine versus feminine) to an emphasis on what films offer as indications pointing to new symbolic structures. Its goal is to shed light on the constitution of a cinematic female gaze, and to describe the structural lines that define it.

Talking and taking positions : An encounter between action rsearch and the gendered and racialised discourses of school science

Nyström, Eva January 2007 (has links)
This thesis concerns processes of power relations in and about the science classroom. It draws on action research involving science and mathematics teachers in the Swedish upper secondary school (for students between 16 and 19 years). For the analysis, feminist post-structuralism, gender, and discourse theories (e.g. Butler and Foucault) are combined with critical action research methodology (e.g. Carr and Kemmis) and discourse analysis (e.g. Wetherell and Hall). The aim of the study is to make visible processes of inequality and to investigate how these are constructed in ‘talk’ or discourse about teaching and learning. The study grew out of teachers’ actions/small-scale projects in their own classrooms and so the study also investigates if and how action research can contribute to making visible, challenging and changing unequal practices and discourses of dominance. The first part of the thesis deals with this process and the analysis suggests that post-structural critiques of language and discourse are helpful in enabling actions to challenge inequities in the science classroom that currently exist. Five different articles constitute the second part of the thesis, two of which explore and survey research literature and argue for a need for more studies which investigate critically how science is shaped by specific social, cultural and historical contexts. Additionally, it is argued that it is important to focus not only on measuring differences among students but also on investigating how difference is constructed and how inequities can be challenged. The experiences and bodily feelings of what ‘race’ can do to gender (and vice versa) in a specific situation are recounted and examined in the third article which also invites different positions and complexity into the research field. The next two articles investigate how power and knowledge are produced, resisted and challenged in teacher and student talk within the action research project. The analysis draws on different discourses in contemporary Swedish society; for example a science discourse which produces school science (and its teachers and students) as high status, a gender equality discourse, a gender difference discourse, and an immigrant discourse which produces ‘immigrant students’ as problematic. Analysis of teacher talk reveals, for example, that long-established hierarchies and taken-for-granted values of school subjects in relation to gender reproduce advantage for some teachers but not for others, that teachers participate in the gendering of science subjects, and that changes in the teaching of science are resisted. Also students are located inside and outside the discourses they draw on, which qualifies or disqualifies them as ‘proper’ science students. Different borders are highlighted to show how students attach meaning to gender, social class, and ethnicity in different situations. Sometimes borders are produced inside bodies (the notion of the gendered brain, for example) and sometimes between cultures or according to family background. Resistance to dominant discourses is also visible in students’ talk and the ways in which teachers and students reproduce borders and exclusion in the science classroom through their practices. The analysis points out the need to initiate new research which can deconstruct among others, discourses of femininity and masculinity, the ‘immigrant student’ and school science.
