Social cohesion in Gilbert Hill : What can be done to better integrate the informalitywithin the formal planning process / Socialsammanhållning i Gilbert Hill : Hur man bättre kan integrera det informella iden formella planeringsprocessen

Johansson, Emma, Carlsbrand, Gustav January 2018 (has links)
The government in Maharashtra are trying to rehabilitate the informal settlements in Mumbai through the slum rehabilitation authority and its rehabilitation scheme and we wanted to learn more about how it worked and how it affects living conditions for former residents of an informal settlement and how it can differ from those still living there. This study has a focus on a specific informal settlement in Mumbai, called Gilbert Hill. Through observations and interviews with people living in the area, the research investigates resident’s opinions and experiences. Interviews with officials, involved in the planning of Mumbai were conducted, in order to learn how the interaction between formal and informal structures looks like. The results will be presented in this report and will give an insight of the life in an informal settlement in Mumbai as well as the thoughts and efforts with the rehabilitation of said settings. Our findings have been analysed and discussed in the light of David Harvey’s The right to city, displacement theories, theories about the public private partnership and what it is that makes informal settlements to persist. We have discovered that it is not as easy as to just redevelop an informal settlement according to a uniform plan. Residents have special bonds to the neighbourhood, both between each other and to the place itself. Even though the residents might be viewed as impoverished and underprivileged they still should have a right to form their future as well as their surroundings. They certainly have a will to do so.

Living withlow intensity and warm light:Designing light in living roomsthrough Nordic daylight qualities

Çelik, Selen January 2019 (has links)
This thesis concentrates on lighting preferencesin living rooms concerning Nordic lightqualities in winter. Living rooms are spaceswhere we relax, communicate, eat, gather andread. Lighting in living rooms gives hints aboutour perception and character.Nordic countries, there is something uniquethan others; use of light and daylight sensiblyand wisely. In the Nordic countries, where thelight and darkness change dramatically betweenthe seasons, the transitions have a specialsignificance. Higher the latitude, twilight hoursare getting longer, and it creates a homogeneoustransition between daylight and night. The thesis consists of literature research andsurvey. Literature research concerning the topicbriefly explains different aspects of the color oflight, its effects on performance, basic lightingsolutions and Nordic daylight qualities in winter.Furthermore, the culture of window lightingand use of daylight as a background are studiedand added to the survey in order to understandthe relation between indoor and outdoor lightqualities from the participants’ perspective. The survey with twenty-one questions andseventy-two participants tries to evaluatehow Nordic light affects people’s preferences.Evaluation and results followed by thediscussion of desired color temperature, lightinglevel, comfortability under Nordic daylight inwinter. Additionally, paintings from differentseasons help me to understand awareness oflocal daylight and attention of participants. Results show us that the attention people giveto the desired light intensity and colors aremore related to the people’s interests than totheir background, profession and length ofstay in Stockholm. It would be interesting toinvestigate this topic with more people who livein Stockholm more than five years. The concentration of the thesis is understandinghow local daylight conditions can affect people’slighting preferences in their living room. Results will help us to implement the knowledgeand collected information into the lightingdesign process in living rooms in Nordic countries.

Sit, Eat, Drink, Talk, Laugh – Dining and Mixed Media

Sigurjonsdottir, Edda Kristin January 2009 (has links)
Sit, Eat, Drink, Talk, Laugh – Dining and Mixed Media, is an exploratory study of qualities in everyday life and challenges people to enjoy the qualities of mundanity. Seeking inspiration in ethnographic studies, field work was conducted in domestic settings, returning an extensive body of material to work from. The study challenges people to absorb the moment, reflect and enjoy, rather than pacing through a lifetime, with a constant focus on the future instead of the present. This work takes a starting point in food and dining as a social activity, where interactive sound and a reference to online social media is explored through two interventions. The results of these are discussed with central findings around food and dining in the area of sociology, the use of sound in ambient computing and on a higher level around the topic of temporality.

Ledarskap, artificiell intelligens & emotionell intelligens : En kvalitativ studie om hur artificiell- och emotionell intelligens påverkar ledarskap och organisationer

Johansen, Johan, Chaaya, Natalie January 2022 (has links)
If artificial intelligence (AI) was previously represented by a chat bot that helps with simpler customer service matters, then the future AI is expected to handle extensive and strategic tasks for companies. AI is constantly evolving, and it is still unclear how intelligent AI can actually become, and where the limits go for AI's capabilities. The rapid development of AI contributes, among other things, to increased productivity, higher efficiency, and higher profitmargins and revenues for companies. Today, AI has already taken over and streamlined several tasks that were previously performed by humans, as AI in many cases is actually faster and more efficient than humans are. On the other hand, human traits tend to become increasingly rare as a result of AI development, which means that these traits may now bevalued higher than ever before. Furthermore, AI development may result in resistance from employees as it creates a feeling of anxiety and frustration. A challenge for today's leaders isto realize the types of resistance that AI can bring and try to deal with these as quickly as possible. Emotional intelligence is therefore of great importance and contributes to an increased understanding of others, as well as more effective communication. This study aims to investigate how business-economics literature presents the impact of AI on organizations and organizational leadership, as well as how EI can contribute to a betterimplementation of AI within organizations. How is AI expected to change the role of aleader? And how is EI expected to affect the leader's ability to implement and use AI in organizations? This is studied qualitatively through a text analysis and a phenomenographic analysis where scientific and web articles are analyzed to answer the aim of the study. Through this, the study helps to draw attention to, and analyze, the perception that exists regarding AI and EI in relation to leadership and organizations. The study can thus help leaders and decision makers to further understand how AI effectively can be implemented in organizations. The study also helps to draw attention to the need for further research in the subject.

Classification of Flying Qualities with Machine Learning Methods / Klassificering av flygkvaliteter med maskininlärning

Isaksson, Ola January 2021 (has links)
The primary objective of this thesis is to evaluate the prospect of machine learning methods being used to classify flying qualities based on simulator data (with the focus being on pitch maneuvers). If critical flying qualities could be identified earlier in the verification process, they can be further invested in and focused on with less cost for design changes of the flight control system. Information from manned simulations with given flying quality levels are used to create a replication of the performed pitch maneuver in a desktop simulator. The generated flight data is represented by different measures in the classification to separately train and test the machine learning models against the given flying quality level. The models used are Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines with radial basis functions (RBF), linear and polynomial kernels along with Artificial Neural Networks.  The results show that the classifiers correctly identify at least 80% of cases with critical flying qualities. The classification shows that the statistical measures of the time signals and first order time derivatives of pitch, roll and yaw rates are enough for classification within the scope of this thesis. The different machine learning models show no significant difference in performance in the scope of this thesis. In conclusion, machine learning methods show good potential for classification of flying qualities, and could become an important tool for evaluating flying qualities of large amounts of simulations, in addition to manned simulations.

Breathe Like a Singer : Facilitating singers’ breath practice with a wearable haptic garment

von Heijne, Lovisa January 2022 (has links)
There has been a recent increase in breathing as an activity within HCI; however, breathing as the source of voice has not been explored. This thesis explores how ADA (air-driven actuator), a haptic wearable garment, may be used by singers to connect with their breath. Primarily through first-person engagement with vocal training and first-person evaluation of ADA’s capability to support vocal practice, the thesis addresses how the garment functionally and experientially supports singers’ movements. Thematic analysis results in two main lines of functional use (demonstrations, and prompts), and engagement with the garment in these two usages builds three conceptualizations of how ADA can align with a singer’s breath (through posture adjustments, inhalation as expansion, and inhalation as tension). Further thematic analysis shows how users characterize experiences with ADA as distinguished by anticipation or layering, offering insight into what experimental qualities underlie the functional use of ADA. The thesis highlights implications for future generative work in the breathing design space, offering tension-release as a breath representation, and a suggestion to explore exhalation duration as a breath parameter through the prolongations of exhalations in singing. Furthermore, it highlights layering as a quality that may be of relevance to further development of ADA, or other experience-oriented technology that aims to support movement practice.

Začínající učitel z hlediska zvládání profesních kvalit / Beginning teacher from the point of view of daeling with professional qualities

Musilová, Markéta January 2013 (has links)
The thesis "Beginning teacher from the point of view of dealing with professional qualities" reacts to the actual theme of seeking professional competencies of teachers and of suitable evaluation methods. It focuses on the work of beginning teachers and their professional quality and on further incentives for their professional growth. At the same time identifies what helps novice teachers during the first years of teaching activities. In the theoretical part knowledge and opinions of specialists are summarized and organized into three chapters. The experts were selected according to themes: teacher quality, professional competence, teaching profession, training of teachers and their support in practice. The practical part presents qualitative research which through the research methods (questionnaire, interview, data analysis, case study) describes the reality of beginning teachers work in primary school. The research try to answer the question: How teachers in the early years of practice manage its activities to evaluate their professional quality, what are dealing with and what helps them to be a good teacher. The most challenging task for beginning teachers is the timing of educational activities and managing with everyday practical and administrative activities. They are sure in the areas of...

O ceticismo de Hume no Tratado da natureza humana : uma abordagem a partir da discussão sobre a distinção entre qualidades primárias e secundárias

Santos, Rafael Bittencourt January 2016 (has links)
This work aims to show that the resulting skepticism of Book I of the Treatise of Human Nature cannot be founded on the alleged discovery, by Hume, of an opposition between the principles which he considers fundamentals to human nature. This because the factuality of this opposition would be defective for the Humean philosophy as it undermines the distinction between universal principles and changeable principles, essential to distinguish between those principles which must be accepted and those which must be rejected; because a skepticism of this nature is proper of the current Fideism in the Renaissance and Modernity; and because the impossibility of knowledge that is consequence of this opposition would lead to the removing of the stimulus to philosophy. To deny such opposition, we must affirm that Hume denies the ontological distinction between primary and secondary qualities, that is its root. This can be done from the consideration of Part 2 of Book I of the Treatise of Human Nature. It is also necessary to show the possibility of the existence of bodies, what is done by the analysis of excerpts of Part 4 of Book I. That done, a new perspective on the Humean philosophy about the nature of its skepticism – one that is constituted by insecurity – and about the relation between reason and natural instincts – a harmonic relation, rather than confrontational – is presented.
