Quête du passé, quête du sens : Gwenaëlle Aubry ("Personne"), Michel Del Castillo ("De père français", "Rue des Archives"), Pierre Bergounioux ("La Toussaint"), Pierre Michon ("Vies minuscules") / Quest of the past, search for meaning : Gwenaëlle Aubry ("Personne"), Michel Del Castillo ("De père français", "Rue des Archives"), Pierre Bergounioux ("La Toussaint"), Pierre Michon ("Vies minuscules")Abroug, Sana 23 May 2016 (has links)
Thrown into a world that seems without order or coherence, in the story parentage fate of the narrator seems tragically insignificant. Prevented between words and words kill, past struggles to rebuild and life becomes a painful ordeal in the grip of an indecipherable and legacy to wear. The stories of Gwenaëlle Aubry, Michel Del Castillo, Pierre Bergounioux and Pierre Michon raise the same existential question about the heritage and freedom. From these experiences, we do not note that because of the similarities in its limits and in its aspiration to freedom, man can qualify differently. The analysis we have conducted various forms of reminiscences and different resources mobilized for the search for meaning shows that the definition of man depends not only on accidents of individual or collective history. It depends on the force of reason and freedom. We have proposed an analysis that presents a different approach to what is commonly done for parentage stories, an analysis that is released from the limited reading that takes into account family determinism, sociological, political and historical. Our work raises awareness of testimony both reasoned and passionate about what parentage story. Beyond their differences, the personal stories we studied are joined in the struggle that replaces the first anguish optimism that justifies the being and action.

Understanding the interplay between technology and social ties in later life: How social ties promote use of technology and how technology can promote social relationshipsNikitina, Svetlana 23 October 2019 (has links)
Meaningful social connections are an important part of our lives, especially as we age, and are associated with life satisfaction and psychological well-being. At the same time making friends and creating connections is known to be challenging in older age. In this thesis, we focus on studying how technology can help to collect information about older adults that can be useful for facilitating friendship formation and social interactions among users. We start by describing early work that shows the opportunities of technology in improving well-being of older adults. The conducted studies and review work highlights the potential of social interactions in motivating older adults for technology use and exercising. We then study factors affecting people's social connectedness and friendships. The study highlights that common life points are related to higher levels of connectedness and frequency of interactions. We then move the focus on studying friendship formation in later life, and specifically on how technology can help to facilitate friendship formation. From observations in the nursing homes we see that reminiscence is often used to collect information about a person’s history and values, we look at this practice as a way to identify information potentially useful to recommend friendships, especially in nursing homes context. We conduct Interviews and observations with nursing homes stakeholders and gerontology doctors to define requirements and opportunities of reminiscence conversational agent suitable to their current practices. We then conduct a study to explore how the concept of the bot and features are perceived by elderly, NH staff and doctors. Finally, we present the work carried out to define and validate the concept of a reminiscence-based conversational agent aimed at: i) conducting storytelling conversations that are engaging and natural and ii) being effective in collecting information about the user (e.g values, interests, places) that later can be used for recommending potential friends.

My, Håkansson, Josefin January 2007 (has links)

The purpose of our study has been to examine the methods of validation and reminiscences from an employee point of view. To answer our aim a qualitative disquisition with four assistant nurses and one pedagogue in craft was conducted. The result was divided into three different themes: the view on people with dementia, merits and demerits with the methods and to work with people with dementia. The analysis of the result was made from selected parts of the system theory and symbolic interaction theory.

The result of our disquisition can be summarized in that all our interviewed persons above all only can see advantages with the methods and several express that they are good tools to use in their work with people with dementia. The majority of our interviewed persons make use of the methods in everyday, spontaneous, meetings with the elderly. Everyone mentions the workgroup as an important factor in the work with the validation and reminiscence methods. Some experience a support in their work from their colleagues while others feel themselves being impeded.

The Effect Of A Reminiscence Group Counseling Program On The Life Satisfaction Of Older AdultsSivis, Rahsan 01 March 2005 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the efficacy of a reminiscence group counseling program on the life satisfaction of older adults aged 60 years and over. In the first phase of the study, 70 older adults (39 women and 31 men, M = 77 years old) residing at a retirement home in Ankara were administered the Life Satisfaction Index A (LSIA), and a demographic information sheet. In the second phase of the study, volunteering older adults were screened for a researcher-designed &ldquo / Reminiscence Group Counseling Program&rdquo / . An experimental matched-pairs design was used in the study.
The group program was composed of six sessions aimed at reminiscing about pleasant memories, past accomplishments, and joyful past experiences. Session themes included place of birth, recall of childhood pastimes, holidays, life accomplishments, and favorite places. Participants in the treatment group were five older adults (three women and two men) aged 62-78 (M = 68).
Following treatment, subjects in the treatment and no-treatment control groups were compared at pre- and post-test measures of life satisfaction. A focus group interview was also conducted in order to evaluate the participants&rsquo / group experience.
Results of Mann-Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Test revealed non-significant increases in the life satisfaction scores of older adults in the treatment group. The focus group interview elicited positive feedback regarding members&rsquo / group experience, such as group&rsquo / s role in facilitating interaction and friendship among participants, enhancing a more positive self-image and leading to enjoyment and pleasant feelings for them.

Previous issue date: 2011-11-10 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research aims to develop a debate about the contribution of the Phaedo to the problem of knowledge in the Platonic epistemology. The dialogue of Phaedo is a well known and perhaps the most widely read, because its proposal concerns a spiritual side of human understanding in relation to the soul. The theme of the immortality of the soul is often touted as central in this dialogue. However, we are presenting in this research the importance of the issue of knowledge, also presented in the Phaedo, which seeks to answer the following question: how to know? To achieve the desired results for the research, we must redo the argumentative course in the work, which necessarily involves the reminiscence theory, the hypothesis of the forms and the theory of the participation. Therefore, the proposal that we intend to evaluate is a fundamental question to the way we understand the philosophy: it can be thought as a discussion of the learning. In other words, a discussion aimed at understanding the possibility of acquiring knowledge. If it is possible, how is it possible?

Telling Your Stories:Designing an Online Email Based Storytelling Group for Older AdultsJanuary 2014 (has links)
abstract: The aim of this study is to test the feasibility of building a storytelling system for older adults to tell and share their life stories based on email. It is measured by the level of participation and people's acceptance of the system. The central goals were to empower people over 60 years old by providing a platform for them to share their wonderful life experience and perspectives on life and lead social services into the digital age by bridging traditional roundtable interaction and modern digital communication. A prototype was built to test the level of participation of the system and follow-up interviews were conducted in order to deeply understand people's acceptance. Content analysis was used to analyze the stories to ascertain what common themes were present. Key design considerations and key factors that affect the feasibility of storytelling system were discussed. This research expands on current research and implementation of Internet-based storytelling system and shed light on the future of combining storytelling with older adults' existing Internet knowledge. Key findings of this research are :(1) Frequency of reminiscence trigger and the number of active participants affect the level of participation collectively. Frequency is considered to be a key determinant. High frequency indicates high level of participation. (2) Categories of topics do not affect the level of participation significantly but serve as key attractions that enhance people's acceptance of the system. (3) Older adults highly accept and get involved in the new email storytelling system. This storytelling program helps them recall their memories and have a profound effect on their own introspection. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S.D. Design 2014

The way it was, the way it is : reminiscence as intergenerational construction of identityBeneke, Michelle 24 February 2006 (has links)
Social constructionism offers a framework that acknowledges the predominance of language in the construction of meaning. Society at large has begun to question the assumptions that are made by empirical paradigms of science. Rather than looking for so-called “truth” social constructionism is interested in the values that underlie specific constructions of meaning. In this dissertation, reminiscence in older individuals is studied from the perspective of social constructionism. In social constructionism the unheard voices and the hidden subtexts are revealed. Most research up to now focuses on the meaning that reminiscence has for the teller of personal stories. Very little emphasis is placed in the current literature on the listener and even less acknowledgement is given to reminiscence as an activity that takes place in relationship. The emphasis in this study is therefore to include the listener in the ongoing conversation about reminiscence. Different voices are juxtaposed, with three participants writing about their experiences as listeners. The question of how reminiscence contributes to both meaning and identity is posed. A holistic content analysis conducted from a narrative perspective follows. To conclude, the author not only makes her own values explicit throughout the study, but invites the reader to become a participant and to add another voice to those voices included in the study. The reading of the study thus becomes an interactive process. Copyright 2005, University of Pretoria. All rights reserved. The copyright in this work vests in the University of Pretoria.
