Environmentální gramotnost studentů Učitelství pro 1. stupeň základní školy a možnosti jejího zjišťování / Environmental literacy of pre-service teachers of primary school and possibilities of its assessment

KROUFEK, Roman January 2016 (has links)
In recent decades, the environmental literacy and its output dimension, responsible environmental behavior represents an important construct, which is studied by a number of researchers from many countries. In this dissertation, firstly we introduce environmental literacy from a theoretical point of view, then the development of approaches to this construct as well as a review of research in past decades. In our own research, we initially sought for a suitable research instrument to be used to identify and measure selected aspects of environmental literacy among pre-service primary teachers. The research tool was found in a combination of Nature relatedness scale and Environmental Behavior scale, supplemented by data collection using concept mapping with the central concept of the greenhouse effect. The variables that affect various aspects of environmental literacy were found on a sample of more than five hundred of the respondents using this tool and its modifications. Higher values were found within the respondents who were engaged in regular environmentally-themed activities, respondents from villages up to 100 inhabitants and the older respondents. The nature relatedness has moderately positive effect on the responsible environmental behavior, cognitive component of environmental literacy does not have such influence. The international comparison showed lower results from the respondents from Slovakia in comparison with students from the Czech Republic and Turkey. Nature relatedness scale proved to be useful for measuring a particular element of the affective component of environmental literacy across countries, by contrast, Environmental behavior scale reached low psychometric results on all foreign respondents.

In particular, it examines how the requirements of impact investing are encompassed in private equity investment processes. First, a literature review was conducted to better define impact investing and assess the complementarity of private equity with impact investing. Secondly, a qualitative study was pursued based on a panel of interviews. Interviewees are investment professionals working for private equity firms with interests in impact investing. The analysis of the interviews indicates a certain commonality of the investment methods between the funds paneled whether they are pure player private equity impact investors or traditional private equity firms investing for impact. Beyond the proximity between investment strategies, the research also shows a strong focus on in-house impact targeting and measurement, with little resort to external tools. Such flexibility negatively affects the readability of impact performance from a market perspective. The research concludes impact investing still has to go through a standardization process to gain global recognition as a private equity segment.

Specifically, we investigated the fishermen from Redonda Beach, in the municipality of Icapui (CE), and the fish species harvested by them. This location was chosen because those fishermen carries on the responsible fishing, that is aligned to the sustainability principles. For data collection, we used qualitative and quantitative methods in the light of ethnoichthyology, which deals with the interactions between humans and fish. The research techniques used in this study were the following: "snowball"sampling ; direct observation, guided tours, open interviews, and semi-structured and structured questionnaires. The survey was applied to the Redonda fishermen and 30 persons from the community. The results showed that Redonda fishermen have practiced artisanal fishing, usually in sailing vessels, using relatively simple tools, and that fishing is an economic, sociocultural and subsistence activity for them. The fish species most havested (and showing higher use value) were cavala (Aconthocybium solandri); biquara (Haemulon plumierii) and serra (Scomberomorus brasiliensis). We suggest that policy measures should be adopted for those species such as minimum harvesting season. The study points out the need for creating spawning season for the Lutjanidae fish family: cioba, dentão, guaiuba, pargo e ariacó. This information is important for developing fisheries resource management and conservation plans, in addition to supporting the decision making to promote the fisheries sustainable management on the coast of Ceará.

Pour un habitat écoresponsable de qualité et financièrement accessible en Saône-et-Loire / For an eco-responsible quality and affordable housing in Saône-et-Loire

Chamodot, Mathilde 01 March 2013 (has links)
The main purpose of this Ph D research is to cross-examine social and economical accessibility to housing. It focuses on a prospective study for new production modes and forms of eco-responsible housing that privileges a local development. Housing is a main issue in a society where it is increasingly difficult to access to a quality accommodation, and where the construction sector still has to evolve for reducing its ecological footprint. Like France, the French department of Saône-et-Loire is facing more complex and evolving social, economical, cultural and environmental issues, with which it must deal to warrant a sustainable development on its territory. In the housing field, this challenge forces to explore new solutions in terms of forms and production ways. At first stage, an analysis of the territory stakes, potentials and brakes has been done, based on field surveys crossed with external references. With regard to this explorative stage, a forwarding thinking was carried out to understand and throw light on possibilities in terms of strategic trends for town planning, architecture or construction. This research jumped at the opportunity of a reflexion request from some elected representatives of the department. It aims to set up a decision-making support for territorial policies according an architect point of view on affordable housing. It also contributes to set up an approach for better seizing housing and territorial development issues, which could be applicable to other situations.

The double edged sword of corporate social responsibility : mechanisms to sustain shareholders' wealth and avoid social overinvestment

Benlemlih, Mohammed 05 December 2014 (has links)
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is, nowadays, considered one of the most debated topics in both theory and practice. This dissertation investigates some financial implications associated with high CSR involvement. After Synthesizing the existing literature in the field, we perform three empirical studies. The first empirical study examines the impact of CSR on firm financial risk (measured by total, systematic and specific risks). Using a database of 5,716 firm-year observations between 2001 and 2011, we show that a socially responsible firm avoids certain risks acknowledged by the financial market as socially responsible systematic risks, like environment penalties and consumer disloyalty. Socially responsible firms also own a moral capital that reduces the impact of some firm specific shocks and thus the idiosyncratic risk level. It appears that the most important reduction of financial risk is due to the “human resources” sub-rating, followed by “business behavior” and “corporate governance”. The second empirical study investigates the impact of CSR on firm debt maturity. Using a large sample of US firms, we find robust evidence that high CSR firms significantly reduce their debt maturity. Furthermore, high CSR firms substitute shareholders' equity for long-term debt. CSR decreases the extent to which investments are financed with long-term debt and increases the extent to which investments are financed by short-term debt and shareholders' equity. The third empirical study uses a sample of 22,839 US firm-year observations over the 1991–2012 period in order to explore the relationship between CSR and dividend payout policy. We find that high CSR firms pay more dividends than low CSR firms. Moreover, socially irresponsible firms adjust dividends quicker than socially responsible firms: dividend payout is more stable in high CSR firms than in low CSR firms. Additional results show that firms involved in two controversial activities –military business and alcohol – are associated with low dividend payouts, which is likely to be due to the high cost of external funding for these firms. Overall, our results support the expectation that socially responsible firms use debt maturity and dividend payout as mechanisms to avoid CSR overinvestment problems and to maintain the positive effects associated with high CSR strategies (i.e., risk reduction).

O desenvolvimento profissional corresponsável na formacão de professores de língua materna à luz da teoria holística da atividade / The co-responsible professional development in first language teaching formation in light of the holistic activity theory

Kist, Liane Batistela 15 February 2017 (has links)
This study investigates the Co-responsible Professional Development (DPC, in Portuguese), in first language teachers’ formation (LM teachers, in Portuguese) based on the Holistic Activity Theory (THA, in Portuguese). The DPC is a triadic conception of professionalization that articulates, based on alliance and reciprocal confidence, three contexts: Academy, Graduation and Market. The DPC is one of the basic concepts of THA studied by Richter (2011) which pattern concerns on the inseparability among conduct, concept and quality in the professional practice, ordered in a systemic way through a set of criteria that are the basis of the parameterization of a specialized job in an autopoietic horizon, denominated as framework. The development of the investigation starts out from an analysis from an excerpt of the activity report of the Portuguese Language Course Subproject that integrates the Institutional Scholarship Program of Introduction to Teaching First Language (PIBID/Português, in Portuguese). Owing that, to implement a DPC, a professional alliance is necessary based on a link of confidence and on the adoption of a paradigm of consensual work (framework) between initial and in-service capacitation, this study begins by analyzing the PIBID/Português as a formative model able to anchor the necessary elements to the professional development of first language teachers. Through a case study within the scope of qualitative research and using the indiciary paradigm from GINZBURG (1989), it is possible to say, in a general way, that PIBID/Português revealed itself as a formative referential with a strong tendency to anchor a DPC and its developments: principles of job framework founded by the DPC, absence of problems in the framework interfaces, setting up as a consequence of the absence of deviation in the means and relations with the socio-interacionist paradigm in the conceptual field of first language, which are revealers of what THA denominates as overcoming akrasia. In other words, this study brings out some positive aspects concerning the inseparability between conduct, concept and value in a triadic situation of professionalization.

An exploration of opportunities for design interventions to reduce crime : a case study situated in Bridgetown

Kankondi, Adelina Omagano Tukwatha January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Design))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2011 / This study explores the possibilities of using design interventions in mitigating crime. The study employs the Design Against Crime (DAC) philosophy in dealing with crime, which provides a holistic perspective regarding crimeand related issues.High crime levels in South Africa necessitate alternative approaches to dealing with crime, as it is becoming evident that the old strategies that have been utilised are not providing the desired effects. The focus is on the emergence of crime amongst youth at risk, living in communities-in-tension and more specifically, the Bridgetown community near Cape Town. Communities which constitute the lower socio-economic income level, usually suffer the most with regards to crime. The effects of crime negatively influence the development of the community, allowing the cycle of poverty and crime to continue. If the cycle of crime can be broken in these communities, development may take place which will strengthen them in a number of ways, including their standing in society. In order to gain a better understanding of the crime situation in South Africa, the study investigates the country‘s crime history and its widespread effects on society today. The research also looks at other factors such as personal and environmental settings that inform an individual‘s decision to commit crime. Delinquency and its results are also explored. The theoretical lens used in the study is that of Socially Responsible Design (SRD), with DAC as a subsection.SRDlooks at providing solutions to societal problems from a holistic point of view. The study uses a qualitative approach which focuses on people in real life situations, allowing the researcher to gain insight into what motivates people in their specific circumstances. The participants involved in the study are members of the Bridgetown community, youth from that community and theReconstructed Living Labs (RLabs) team, who were previously involved in crime. The researcher sought the views of experts in the field with regards to crime alleviation in communities such as Bridgetown. This research study concludes that opportunities exist forholistic and multi-faceted deployment of DAC strategies in that community to ameliorate crime, when these strategies targetyouth at risk.
