A presente pesquisa contempla a teoria e a prática da música instrumental do século XVIII, sobretudo na Inglaterra, sob o ponto de vista da obra teórica do violinista, compositor e tratadista italiano Francesco Geminiani (1687-1762). O trabalho objetiva comentar e traduzir - pela primeira vez em língua portuguesa - a integral da obra teórica desse autor: Rules for Playing in a True Taste (c.1748), A Treatise of Good Taste in the Art of Musick (1749), The Art of Playing on the Violin (1751), The Art of Accompaniament (1756/7), Guida Armonica (1756/8), The Harmonical Miscellany (1758) e The Art of Playing the Guitar or Cittra (1760). A escolha de Geminiani se deve ao fato de seus sete escritos se alinharem a importantes preceptistas filosóficos, como Batteux, Montesquieu e Hume, e musicais, como Quantz, C. P. E. Bach e L. Mozart. Além disso, dissertam sobre aspectos importantes da música setecentista sob os pontos de vista prático (como a performance em instrumentos como violino, violoncelo, cravo - com ênfase no baixo contínuo -, cistre e traverso) e teórico (com discussões sobre o ensino e o aprendizado de harmonia, além de discutir, em toda sua obra, o conceito de bom gosto em música). As análises e estudos oferecidos em forma de comentários, bem como as traduções aqui presentes não só permitirão o leitor atual a observar a obra de Geminiani inserida em seu contexto histórico-filosófico-musical adequado, mas também fornecerão ferramentas importantes para pesquisas posteriores sobre o tratadista e a música do século XVIII. / The current study addresses the theory and practice of instrumental music of the eighteenth century, especially in England, from the perspective of the theoretical work of the Italian violinist, composer, and writer Francesco Geminiani (1687-1762). The aim of the present study was to comment and translate - for the first time into the Portuguese language - the complete theoretical works by this author: Rules for Playing in a True Taste (c. 1748), A Treatise of Good Taste in the Art of Musick (1749), The Art of Playing on the Violin (1751), The Art of Accompaniment (1756/7), Guida Armonica (1756/8), The Harmonical Miscellany (1758), and The Art of Playing the Guitar or Cittra (1760). Geminiani was chosen because his seven written works are aligned with important preceptists of philosophy, such as Batteux, Montesquieu, and Hume, and of music, such as Quantz, C. P. E. Bach, and L. Mozart. In addition, the discourse about important practical elements (the playing of instruments such as the violin, cello, or harpsichord - with an emphasis on basso continuo -, cittern, and traverso) and theoretical aspects (including discussions about teaching and learning harmony, and the concept of good musical taste) of eighteenth century music. The analyses and studies, provided as comments, and the translations in the present study will not only allow current readers to view Geminiani\'s work within its adequate historical-philosophical-musical context, but will also provide important tools for subsequent studies on Geminiani and the music of the eighteenth century.

"Bli inte lurad" : En retorisk analys av en statlig kampanj om att möta informationspåverkan / "Don't be fooled" : A Rethorical Analysis of a Govermental Campaign to Counter Information InfluenceJoby, Martin January 2023 (has links)
I en tid av minskande tilltro till objektiv sanning och expertis blir konsten att övertala och kontrollera information avgörande i samhällsdebatten och en utmaning för demokratin. Inom den retoriska traditionen gör man dock en etisk distinktion mellan påverkan med den ömsesidiga nyttan som mål (argumentation) respektive påverkan med syfte att manipulera (propaganda). Retoriken utger sig också ha potential att vitalisera det demokratiska samtalet. Det finns i dagsläget begränsad forskning om hur samhället kan arbeta mot informationspåverkan och forskningen är tämligen frikopplad från den retoriska traditionen. Samtidigt finns ett retoriskt intresse för beredskapsretorik och för politisk retorik som med moderna medier når oss i det privata. Mot denna bakgrund kommer denna uppsats att studera kampanjen Bli inte lurad framtagen av Myndigheten för psykologiskt försvar, som är en beredskapskampanj om att möta informationspåverkan. För att synliggöra retoriken som präglar denna folkbildningskampanj används en retorisk analysmetod. Genom analysen och den teoretiska bakgrunden i klassisk retorik och modern visuell retorik kunde argumentationen, det publika tilltalet och den ickeverbala kommunikationen synliggöras. Argumentationen som analysen synliggör är informativ och söker vinna tillit genom ett starkt pathos som uppmålar en hotfull situation och genom ett starkt ethos som framställer myndigheten som folklig, men argumenterar mindre utifrån logos, utan underminerar motståndarnas trovärdighet. Det publika tilltalet som analysen synliggör framhäver medborgarnas demokratiska ansvar och hävdar rationalitet och social sammanhållning som gemensamma värderingar. Medborgarna uppmuntras både till källkritik och källtillit med anspelningar på samvetet och solidaritet. Den ickeverbala kommunikation som synliggörs i analysen förtydligar känslor och attityder i symboliska illustrationer samt kopplar problematiken till vardagliga upplevelser. Illustrationer och layout skapar en viss distans till problematiken och förmedlar trygghet. Att kampanjen på hemsidan presenteras i samarbete med magikerna Brynolf och Ljung skapar intresse, men kan förstärka en ogrundad misstänksamhet mot främmande perspektiv av rädsla att bli lurad. / In an era of decreased trust towards objective truth and expertise the art of convincing and controlling information becomes paramount to the public debate and to the democracy. Within the rhetorical tradition there is an ethical distinction between influence towards the common good (argumentation) and influence with the intent to manipulate (propaganda). The rhetorical tradition also claims potential to invigorate the democratic discourse. There is today limited research on how society can counter information influence and the research is quite disconnected from the rhetorical tradition. Meanwhile there is a rhetorical interest in emergency preparedness and for political rhetoric that through modern media reach us in our privet life. Against this background this essay will study the campaign Don’t be fooled, created by the Swedish Psychological Defense Agency, which is an emergency preparedness campaign about countering information influence. To make visible the rhetoric that marks this popular education campaign a rhetorical method of analysis is applied. Through the analysis and the theoretical framework of classical rhetoric and modern visual rhetoric the argumentation, the public appeal and the nonverbal communication could be made visible. The argumentation that the analysis show is informative and seeks to gain trust through a strong pathos which describes a threatening situation and through a strong ethos that depicts the agency as affable, though argue less from logos, but undermine the credibility of the opponent. The public appeal that the analysis show holds up the citizens democratic responsibility and claim rationality and social cohesion as common values. The citizens are encouraged to both source criticism and source trust with reference to the conscience and solidarity. The nonverbal communication that the analysis shows illustrates feelings and attitudes through symbolic illustrations and connect the problems to everyday situations. Illustrations and layout create somewhat of a distance to the problems and mediate safety. The choice to present the campaign through the website with the magicians Brynolf and Ljung creates interest but can also reinforce an ill-founded suspicion towards different perspectives by fear to be fooled.

A presente Dissertação de Mestrado propõe analisar o texto Informacion |1640|, do polígrafo português Manuel de Faria e Sousa (1590-1649), a partir das fontes retóricas e poéticas que orientaram a sua estruturação como gênero de defesa. O discurso seiscentista proposto à análise é redigido posteriormente à sentença promulgada pela Mesa Pequena do Tribunal do Santo Ofício de Lisboa, a qual veta a circulação dos Comentarios aos Lusíadas, do letrado referido, assim que publicados em 1639. O substrato da ação acusatória reprova veementemente as alegorias presentes no livro censurado, que se erigem com sentido religioso a partir da trama mitológica do poema heróico de Luís de Camões. Manuel de Faria justifica em Informacion os intrincados mecanismos operadores da interpretação alegórica proposta. Por se tratar de uma resposta de um acusado às reclamações interpostas pelos padres revedores de livros, importa trazermos em Apêndice inéditos registros da Inquisição lisbonense (Ms. Port. 5280.381* da Houghton Library, da Universidade de Harvard), por nós aqui transcritos, fundamentais para o entendimento acerca da censura imposta à conhecida obra de Comentários. / The present Master\'s Dissertation proposes to analyze the text Informacion |1640|, written by the Portuguese polygraph Manuel de Faria e Sousa (1590-1649), from the Rhetorical and Poetic sources that guided its structuration as a defense genre. The sixteenth-century discourse proposed to the analysis is drafted subsequent to the sentence promulgated by the Mesa Pequena do Tribunal do Santo Ofício de Lisboa, which prohibits the circulation of the Comentarios aos Lusiadas, by the above-named scholar, since its publication in 1639. The substrate of accusatory action strongly disapproves of the allegories found in the censored book, which are constructed with a religious meaning based on the mythological plot of the heroic poem by Luís de Camões. Manuel de Faria justifies in Informacion the intricate mechanisms which lead to the proposed allegorical interpretation. Because we are dealing with an answer of a defendant to complaints brought by the book reviewer priests, it is worth bringing in Appendix the unpublished records of the Lisbon Inquisition (Ms.Port.5280.381* The Houghton Library, Harvard University), transcribed by us here, crucial to the understanding about the censorship imposed to the known book of Comments.

Syfte och frågeställning Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur tre svenska reklamfilmer tillämpar olika typer av argument för att övertyga mottagarna av sitt budskap och vilka retoriska grepp som används för att nå ut till publiken. Vidare undersöks vilka budskap som är framträdande samt vilka samhällsfrågor reklamfilmerna anspelar på. I studien granskar jag även hur visuell retorik tillämpas. Utifrån detta syfte utformades frågeställningen: Hur ser argumentationen ut i de utvalda reklamfilmerna? Vilka budskap går att avläsa i reklamfilmerna? Vilka visuella argument tillämpas? Material och Metod Materialet består av tre svenska reklamfilmer som visats på tv under hösten 2016. Det metodologiska tillvägagångssättet är en kritisk retorikanalys som är kritiskt ifrågasättande och undersöker vilka argument som ger tyngd samt budskapens innebörd. Jag har även inkluderat visuella aspekter eftersom en analys utifrån retoriken även fokuserar på de visuella budskapen som ansluter till visuella uttrycksformer. Det visuella perspektivet tillämpas i studien för att få en bredare förståelse för hur visuella framställningsformer används och hur de påverkar och övertygar publiken. Resultat Analysresultatet indikerar flertal likheter mellan reklamfilmerna, främst genom att de distanserar sig från den traditionella marknadsföringen som ofta syftar till att exponera varor och tjänster. Istället återspeglar reklamfilmerna verklighetsbaserade situationer utifrån tre skilda perspektiv. Ica som uppmärksammar ett samhällsproblem med våldsinslag, Ikea som syftar till att återskapa en vardagssituation genom att visa hur varuhuset existerar i hemmet samt KPA Pension som visar en verklighetsbaserad situation med inriktning på miljöfrågor. Återkommande är även hur reklamerna anspelar på publikens känslor och att barn har en central roll i samtliga reklamfilmer. / Purpose and research question The purpose of the study is to examine how three swedish commercials use different types of arguments to convince the target groups of a message and to analyze the rhetorical grips that are applied in order to reach out to the audience. Furthermore the most prominent messages in the commercials are identified and the social issues the commercials allude to are examined. This study also examines how visual rhetoric is applied. Based on the purpose this study examines the following research questions: - How are the arguments in the selected commercials framed? - What messages can be read off in the commercials? - Which rhetorical means are prominent? - What visual arguments are applied? Material and method The material consists of three swedish commercials shown on television the fall of 2016. In the study a critical rhetorical analysis is applied which critically questions and examines the main arguments and the meaning of the messages. Additionally visual aspects are included in the analysis since rhetoric also focuses on the visual messages connected to the visual expression. The visual perspective is applied in the study to gain a broader understanding of how visual representation forms are used and how they influence and persuade the audience. Results The result of the analysis results indicate numerous similarities between the commercials, mainly because they distance themselves from the traditional marketing that often aims to expose goods and services. Instead these commercials reflect real-life situations from three different perspectives. Ica recognizes a social problem with violence, Ikea aims to recreate an everyday situation by showing how the department store can exist in our homes. KPA Pension shows a real-life situation with a focus on environmental issues. Something recurrence in these commercials is also how commercials alludes to the audience's feelings and that children have a central role in all the commercials.

Previous issue date: 2007-12-17 / This work aims to analyze the relationship among culture, education and rhetoric on the sermons of the Priest Antonio Vieira (1608-1697). It discusses the presence of oratory on the Western teaching since its Greek origins until the formation of the Ratio Studiorum in 17th-century. Brazilian society is defined as baroque and the rhetoric arises as element essential in the elaboration of the social imaginary speeches and, occupying as an essencial element in the elaboration of discursese and social imaginaries, occupying the centre of controversies, about questions like reason and the faith, ethics and the politics, the nature of the Indian and African peoples, even over the own construction of the modern subject. In this context the vieira?s preaching discharges the functions of kerigma (preaching), didach? (education) and politics (action). The research consisted in a finicky reading over five of these sermons that were returned in the presence of different audiences. The pulpit was the cathedra where Vieira used his sermons as a manner of social mobilization that aimed not only teaching a determined knowledge of reality, but altering cruel situations like Indian and poor people slavery in his epoch. Education by Vieira consist in a tension between utopian hopes and urgencies of practice. The rhetorical tradition affirms the interdependence of technical ethics and politics aspects. To know is not enough is necessary to convince and to move, realizating passage from theorical to practical liverly. It presupposes still the preoccupation with the solidity of argumentation and of reasoning, a wide cultural formation, the requirement of a civic ethics and, mainly, the adequacy between content and the specifics of audience / Este trabalho objetiva analisar a rela??o entre cultura, educa??o e ret?rica nos serm?es do Padre Antonio Vieira (1608-1697). Discute-se a presen?a da orat?ria no ensino ocidental das suas origens gregas a forma??o do Ratio Studiorum no s?culo XVII. The publicity text is a manner of causing desires in the mass communication. Based on this premise, the present work aims at analysing the language used in the publicity discourse from five different language schools that has been selected. It will be consider mainly the linguistics and stylistics resources found in them, showing the seduction, persuasion and production of meaning of the structuring elements. throughout words. / A publicidade explora o universo dos desejos particulares de cada pessoa, manipulando, seduzindo e convencendo. O texto publicitário é uma forma de despertar o desejo na massa consumidora. Com base nessa premissa, este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar a linguagem usada no discurso publicitário de cinco diferentes escolas de idiomas selecionadas. Consideraremos, sobretudo, os recursos lingüísticos e estilísticos neles encontrados, apontando a sedução, a persuasão e a produção de sentido dos elementos estruturantes. A dissertação tratará, ainda, da Retórica, disciplina que surgiu entre os gregos, conhecida como a
arte de argumentar e de levar à ação por meio da palavra.
