Vraken i Narvik : Objektbiorafiska studier om vraken i Narvik efter slaget 1940Nilsson, Siri January 2022 (has links)
This study has examined a selection of the wrecks of Narvik, which comes from the battle of Narvik in april 1940. The essay introduces every ship that was involved in the battle of Narvik in a chart, and the wreck which is still in Narvik on a map over Ofotfjorden. Ofotfjorden is the fjord where Narvik is located. The chart shows which country the ships comes from, what kind of ship and when it was built. Then the study used an object biography to study the life stories of P/S Norge, S/S Rauenfels, Wilhelm Heidkamp and Anton Schmitt. The result shows that the ships had been used in different ways before the battle of Narvik, both for war, transportation and escorting, and then met the same fate. The result also tells about the interest in the wrecks and discusses how marine archealogy can be used to use the source material to get more knowledge about the ships that were involved in the dramatic battle in april 1940.

The study examines the physical location of Gamla Linköping where the city of Linköping reconstructs and preserves its collective history through the buildings and the personal memories and stories that today together constitute a living museum. Houses and buildings have been moved from their original locations around the city and some have been given a completely new function in Gamla Linköping. The study also examines personal memories and collective stories from informants in Linköping to answer the questions concerning Gamla Linköping's importance to the city, why the need for reconstruction exists and what importance personal memories have for the study's informants. Conclusions drawn in the study are that Gamla Linköping talks about the everyday life and environment of the individual people in their time and space and that reconstruction on a full scale is an excellent opportunity to relive and interpret a past. The study also shows that emotions such as happiness, joy and nostalgia are what emerges most when informants talks about personal memories that are triggered by both places and objects.

This thesis applies contemporary approaches to the study of the submarine as archaeological material. Relevant national and international maritime law is examined. The study considers the methodology for distinguishing wrecks over time and the archaeological context of the submarine in a global setting. A case study of the Russian submarine Som, is used to illustrate and exemplify the issues proposed in the essay including archaeological evaluation. The archaeological evaluation in the case study is based partly on moving imagery, not primarily produced for archaeological purposes, to obtain data from an inaccessible contemporary site.

De obesuttna torparna : En landskapsanalys av torplämningar i Harbo socknen / The unpropertied croftersHammarin, Vincent January 2023 (has links)
The Swedish crofters were a subset of the unpropertied people, a social class especially prevalent during the 18th and 19th centuries. The crofters owned no ground of their own but were instead allowed to live in small and simple crofts on someone else’s land in exchange for payments, either in form of money or labour. The crofters, especially true for the ones in Harbo, usually had to delve into many different occupations to try to make ends meet. The archaeological interest for crofts has traditionally not been met with much enthusiasm, in large because of them being relatively modern and therefore not seen as fit for archaeological evaluations. Over the past decades this sentiment has slowly begun to change, with many scientists devoting themselves to the subfield of historical and present-day archaeology which places a particular focus on these remains. This essay focuses on two crofts in Harbo socknen and aims to shed light on the crofters’ social position and existence using written church records and historical maps. Moreover, the remains of the crofts will be examined in person as to study the preservation of these, as well as to note eventual additional findings. Finally, I will discuss the findings of my study as well as discuss the importance of the archaeological study of crofts.

Skolbrandsarkeologi : En samtidsarkeologisk undersökning i södra StorstockholmNordlander, Sara January 2023 (has links)
This essay describes the artistic project Skolbrandsarkeologi (school fire archeology) and operates within the field of contemporary archaeology. The essay presents three examples of when contemporary archaeology has played a role in, or contributed to, the healing of individuals or of relatives to people who have experienced traumatic events. These examples are then discussed in relation to the artistic project Skolbrandsarkeologi. The essay also explores the role that physical objects can play for memories and the various ethical challenges that the discipline of contemporary archeology may face. The results indicate that contemporary archaeology, both on its own and in collaborations with other disciplines, can have a positive therapeutic impact on the memories and experiences of traumatic events.

Alternativ till 1850-årsgränsen i Sveriges kulturmiljölag : Jämförande analys med Norges bevarande- och undersökningsmöjligheter av fasta lämningar från det nyligen förflutna / Alternative to the 1850 dating restriction for Remains in the Swedish Historic Environment Act : A Comparative Analysis of Norwegian Conservation and Archeological Investigation possibilities of Remains from recent timesHäggberg, Erik January 2023 (has links)
The thesis problematizes the 1850 dating provision in the Swedish Historic Environment Act (1988:950) and its consequences for conservation of remains with no law protection, dated later than the year. The text analyzes the possibilities for archaeological research of the context of remains from recent time periods. The theoretical perspective aims to recognize the value of these recent remains. The method in the thesis is a comparative analysis between the situation in Sweden and Norway, because of the latter's chapter in the country's Act concerning the cultural heritage with the possibility to protect remains from every time period. The result is that the 1850 provision has an effect on recent remains, but the conservation and possibilities for archaeological investigation depend on other provisions in the law and other factors as well.

spårHiredal, Sandra January 2020 (has links)
In a place that has been abandoned I have collected the human-made traces. Preserving the perishability of places and people. Saving the small memory. To hold close and pass on to the next. Placing them in a jewelry context where we may care for them more tenderly. To approach the people through adornment and wearing. I don't want to physically mark anyone, but I still want to come close. A piercing of the clothes: brooches. You who left it. I who collected. Next one to wear. Where all of us become involved and equally important. With the traces taken from the place, I add my own imprint in the craftsmanship of the jewelry. Each brooch fragile and where the next one, the wearer, will become part of our traces and history. Each brooch with a part of us and in transformation. Traces can be left, and memories preserved. They can be passed on through the visible, the tangible, the sound and the anecdotes. They can be experienced or relived when we feel, listen and see. Therefore, I needed to pass on the traces in several ways. Through the brooches and through film. For more people to take part of. Where the next one can see, hear and feel a place; its traces, stories and the imagination created in the experience.
