In the present Diploma thesis secondary isotope effects on NMR chemical shieldings were determined using ab-initio quantum chemical methods. In order to estimate errors of various methods, secondary isotope effects on fluoro(2-2H1)ethane were calculated at the HF, MP2 and CCSD(T) level of theory using triple- and quadruple zeta basis sets. On the basis of these calculations it can be shown that gauche and antiperiplanar conformers can already be distinguished by their secondary isotope shifts calculated at the HF/tz2p level of theory.
Furthermore it was investigated, whether a dependency of the isotope effects on dihedral angles between the deuterium and the fluorine substituent exists. The secondary isotope effects on 19F chemical shifts of exo- and endo-2-fluoronorbornanes with deuterium subsituents in the endo-3, exo-3, syn-7 or anti-7 positions were calculated at the HF/tz2p level. It is shown that the calculated isotope effects of 2-fluoronorbornanes allow to identify various stereoisomers.

Where is the bottle? Cross-linguistic study on side assignment to objects and interpretation of static spatial relations by German, Polish, Italian and English native speakersStoltmann, Katarzyna 22 July 2021 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the use of reference frames (absolute, relative,
intrinsic) and secondary local deixes (‘in front of’, ‘behind’, ‘to the right / left of’) by
German, English, Italian, and Polish native speakers to describe static spatial relations.
Two experiments per language were carried out.
The first experiment investigated side assignment. Participants saw the object from
the front (the canonical position) and the back (the noncanonical position). The results
confirm that for side assignments to a canonical positioned vis-à-vis object most speakers
of the four languages use the outside perspective. However, some variations occurred for
Polish and Italian, especially while identifying the right and left sides showing significant
differences between German and Italian.
Using mouse tracking, I tested the interpretation of static spatial relations of two kinds
of complexity. The simple spatial relations included either extrinsic or intrinsic reference
objects (animate; inanimate) and a bottle as localized object. The complex spatial
relations were supplemented by an agent and embedded by indirect speech. This allows
the investigation of origo shift. In all situations, participants were asked to describe the
location of the bottle. German and Italian showed significant differences in interpreting
simple animate and inanimate intrinsic relations. Interpreting the intrinsic complex
relations, Polish speakers shifted the origo to the agent most frequently and described
the relations from his point of view. All in all, for the complex relations, the choice of
the intrinsic reference frame decreased significantly compared to the simple relations.
That is, most participants shifted the origo to agents’ point of view and interpreted the
spatial relations applying the reflection strategy.

Secondary task engagement, risk-taking, and safety-related equipment use in Gerrnan bicycle and e-scooter riders - an observationHuemer, Anja Katharina, Banach, Elise, Bolten, Nicolas, Helweg, Sarah, Koch, Anjanette, Martin, Tamara 02 January 2023 (has links)
lt has been shown that engagement in secondary tasks may contribute to cyclists crash risk [1 ], meditated by cycling errors or risky behaviors. For influences on secondary task: engagement, it is generally found that phone use is negatively correlated with age. In most studies, males are more found engaged in phone tasks than females. lt was also found that users of a bicycle-sharing program more often to wear headphones and engage in more unsafe behavior. The use of safety gear (e.g., wearing a helmet, using reflectors) is often negatively correlated with distracted cycling. Also, cyclists engaged in a secondary task exhibit other risky behaviors more often [2]. The present study's first aim was to get (an updated) estimate of the observable frequency of different secondary tasks, use of additional safety equipment, and rule violations while riding bicycles and e-scooters in Germany. The second aim was to examine possible differences in secondary task: engagement, use of additional safety equipment, and rule violations between different types of users of the cycling infrastructure, i.e., riders of conventional bikes, e-bikes, scooters, and e-scooters. A third aim was to explore whether riders' secondary task engagement is related to active safety precautions (e.g., wearing a helmet), traffic rule violations, and at-fault conflicts and if there are rider profiles regarding safety-related behaviors. As the study is explorative, no hypotheses were formulated. [From: Introduction]

In recent years the expression of homeostatic chemokine receptors on hematological tumors was increasingly associated with tumor pathogenic functions. Within this thesis, functions of the chemokine receptors CXCR7 und CCR7 in the pathogenesis of lymphoid diseases were characterized using different mouse models. For CXCR7, low expression levels were detected in murine thymocytes during normal T cell development. Enhanced expression was found mainly intracellularly in peripheral activated T cells. An aberrant overexpression was identified in human cell lines and primary cases of T-ALL and classical Hodgkin lymphoma. The analysis of a retroviral overexpression model suggested a function of CXCR7 as an anti-apoptotic costimulator during thymic beta-selection. In a functional complex with CXCR4 and the preTCR CXCR7 mediated a more efficient DN3-to-DN4 transition. CXCR7 expressing thymocytes were characterized by enhanced apoptosis resistance and expression of anti-apoptotic Bcl2-family genes. Thus, CXCR7 could putatively make immature thymocytes more susceptible to develop T-ALL. In addition, new insights into the function of CCR7 in the context B cell lymphoma dissemination were gained within this thesis. Applying the Eµ-Myc mouse model, CCR7 was shown to mediate the specific homing of Eµ-Myc lymphoma cells into the T cell zone of spleen and lymph nodes. Here, lymphoma cells received pivotal survival signals following reciprocal interactions with gp38+ FRCs and DCs, amongst them Ihh, Igf-1 and VCAM-1. Moreover, the lymphoma cells induced a survival promoting active remodelling of the T cell zone stroma, which was characterized by the expansion of the FRC network, by the induction of putatively immune suppressive DCs and by the induction of a pro-inflammatory milieu. Therefore, an inhibition of lymphoma-stroma interactions could provide a new strategy in lymphoma therapy.

How Involving Secondary Students in the Assessment Process Transforms a Culture of Failure in Mathematics to a Culture of Accountability, Self-Efficacy and Success in Mathematics: Student Action Plans, Assessment, and Cultural ShiftClemmer, Katharine W. 12 April 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Learn how to realize a measurable increase in student engagement and achievement in mathematics through a guided, collaborative, and active process grounded in mathematics. Students and teachers collaboratively devise a data-driven plan of action that moves learning
forward for all students and effectively supports at-risk secondary students in urban environments. Learn how teachers in the LMU Math and Science Teaching Program effectively implement assessments as motivations for student achievement and develop opportunities for students to demonstrate comprehension and retention of essential content over time. Students become active participants in the assessment process in an environment where learning is an individual progression and risk-taking is valued and encouraged. Find out how students, guided by teacher-provided descriptive feedback, make decisions in a process of self-reflection in which they critically analyze and compare their learning outcomes to expectations of content mastery. By comparing mastery to current performance,
students utilize failure and engage in error analysis to deconstruct prior shortcomings and devise a plan of action that will move learning forward thereby overcoming failure.

8 Zusammenfassung und Ausblick / Today's ecological and economic requirements demand energy-efficient processing methods. Against this background, this thesis deals with the plastic blow moulding process, which, in addition to the high energy demand typical for plastics processing, requires a high degree of energy-intensive compressed air. Based on a detailed energy balance of the extrusion blow moulding process, the use of compressed air required for forming (blow air) and for internal cooling of the blowing parts (purge air) was identified as an energetic weak point. In order to reduce the amount of compressed air required for forming, a feedback process used to recycle the blowing air is investigated in detail. Furthermore, a storage system will be presented which allows a secondary use of the pressurized process exhaust air, which is continuously generated during the internal cooling of the blowing part. Finally, an optimization approach for the effective use of compressed air for the internal cooling of bottle-shaped blow-moulded parts is presented, which promises a shortening of the cooling time and a reduction of the compressed air required through the targeted use of favourable flow conditions for heat transfer.:1 Einleitung
