Äldre kvinnors utsatthet för våld i nära relationer : En kvalitativ intervjustudie bland verksamma vid kvinnojourer och tantjourer / Older women´s exposure to domestic violence : A qualitative interview study with employees at women´s shelters and women´s shelters directed to older women

Sheerin, Nathalie January 2023 (has links)
Nyckelord: våld i nära relationer, våld mot äldre kvinnor, kvinnojourer, intersektionalitet / Domestic violence does not end with retirement. Older women can be exposed to all the different forms of domestic abuse that affect younger women, including sexual violence. There may also be more possible perpetrators, in addition to a partner also adult children, close relatives or personnel in health and social care. Both previous research and society have long overlooked that domestic abuse occurs against older women. This has created large knowledge gaps regarding older women's experiences of violence and which methods are effective for identifying, preventing, and remedying violence against older women. Consequently, there is a need for more knowledge about older women's exposure to domestic violence and violence prevention methods. The purpose of this study was to explore and describe experiences of meeting, and supporting older women exposed to violence, through the perspective of employees at women ́s shelters and women ́s shelters directed to older women. A qualitative interview study was conducted with eleven employees at women ́s shelters and women ́s shelters directed to older women in Sweden. Through a reflexive thematic analysis, the results were categorized by four emerging themes; the invisible victim; the invisible violence; the unknown aid; making visible. The study showed how intersections of gender, age, functional ability, and class interacts and are connected to processes of invisibility, which collectively affected older women's opportunity to break free from violence as well as their access to support and protection. For support services to be available for older abused women at equal terms as for younger women, the image of abused women, the perpetrator, and what domestic violence looks like needs to be broadened. Support measures need to be tailored based on women’s individual needs and life circumstances, therefore stereotypical ideas about older people need to be actively challenged and counteracted.  Keywords: domestic violence, elder abuse, women ́s shelters, intersectionality

Barnen i våldets skugga : En kvalitativ studie om professionellas erfarenheter med barn på skyddat boende / The children in the shadow of violence : A qualitative study of professional experiences with children in women's shelters

Hiller, Alexsandra, Larsen, Evelina January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this qualitative study is to investigate how professionals in women’s shelters work to maintain the child's needs and rights. The study also concerns how children exposed to violence are affected by previous experiences of violence in their home environment and how their relationships are affected by staying at the shelter. The study reflects professionals' experiences in their work with children in women's shelters and the problematic aspects of maintaining the child's everyday life. The study's empirical data was collected through semi-structured interviews with four professionals working in women's shelters. Through a thematic analysis the collected data has been processed and linked to previous research in the field. In the results of the study it appears that the child's everyday life is affected to a large extent due to their stay at the shelter. There are problematic aspects regarding the relationship between the need for protection and the maintenance of the child's needs and rights. The results also highlight how the child's social life is affected by moving to the women's shelter and how the experiences of the previous violence can create consequences for the child

Group work with adolescent girls staying in a shelter

Netshishivhe, Tshifhiwa Marylene 11 1900 (has links)
The aim of this study was to do group work with 10 girls staying in a shelter in order to contribute to their adjustment. Lewin's field theory and the General Systems Theory were utilized to ground the group work. The epistemological framework of the study was exploratory and involved an in depth analysis of the group experiences of the participants. Unstructured interviews were also conducted with the participants. Hermeneutics as a method of analysis was applied to analyse data. The following themes captured the experiences of the girls: trust versus mistrust, connection and disconnection, alienation and isolation, emotionally overwhelmed versus security, being labeled/stigmatized, security versus insecurity, and hope versus hopelessness. This study provides a better understanding of the life worlds of girls staying in a shelter. It could also contribute to a greater awareness of the experiences of abused girls who stay in a shelter. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)

Quando o ambiente é o abrigo: cuidando das cuidadoras de crianças em acolhimento institucional / When the environment is the shelter: looking after the caregivers of children institutionally sheltered

Careta, Denise Sanchez 25 March 2011 (has links)
This study presents the development of the psychological practice within the institutional context. It is the psychotherapeutic group intervention with the children\'s caregivers in institutional shelters, for two years, developed within the context of the shelters. In our previous study for the Master\'s Degree, we identify intense psychic suffering manifested by the team of caregivers, in which we perceive important identifications between the team and the state of anguish the sheltered children are found. In March, 2006, we begin weekly psychotherapeutic gatherings with the caregivers of this shelter, until up the year 2008. Within the group, and at the beginning and the end of each gathering, we apply the Drawing- And-Story Procedure with Theme, to understand the psychic dynamics of the participants in relation with the sheltered children, and also, to help us evaluate the applied intervention. We adopt the Winnicottian Perspective for the notion of health. The experiment reveals, from the very moment the caregivers reach a better emotional contact, with the interiority, that they are able to hold back a great part of the psychic suffering, taking a more lively approach in contacting the exterior reality, expanding the affective contacts. The team of caregivers presents a better contact with their own affections; also, presents improvement in the capacity to discriminate the children under the shelter, which facilitates the relationship in the institutional context. We perceive a change in the subjective reality of the team of caregivers, even though the social reality of the context remains unchanged, and this allows us to consider the efficiency of the psychological intervention with the team of caregivers. Thus, we propose this intervention as differentiated clinical setting to aid caregivers in shelters

The general objective is to investigate the meanings attributed to the relations in the institution, as constitutive of the identity of young adults who lived there, up to their adulthood, by exploring the meanings attributed to the shelter, social mother, brothers and village the four pillars of the mission of the institution in the self-descriptions of these young people; intends, also to comprehend the relevance of these meanings in their situation of young adults, due to the need to guarantee the self survival, considered as an indicator of adulthood. It is a qualitative research where the researcher studies, based on the narrative of four young people about themselves, the presence of the four pillars of the institution in these self-descriptions. The relational comprehension of the self constitutionf, common to many systemic theories and the social constructionism, which proposes the meaning as socially constructed in language, gives the bases to the analyses and interpretation of the proposed categories and the other categories constructed through the narratives of the interviewees. The results lead to the presence of the people who integrate the net constituted in the Village and from the village as fundamental voices in the co-construction of an experience of the self, in coherence with the time and the space that constitute the identity. Other social voices, such as prejudice, which came up in the interviews, are part of the restricted identity of these young people, as much as the wide social economic context in the city of São Paulo. The research offers reflection about the co-responsibility between the institution and the external social agents on the way from the Village to the city, towards the adulthood of these emancipated young people from the Village / Esta pesquisa tem como tema de estudo a constituição do si mesmo de jovens adultos criados em casas-lar sob os cuidados de uma mãe-social, na Aldeia de Rio Bonito, em São Paulo, instituição filiada às Aldeias Infantis SOS do Brasil.
